she's been staring at him for about five full minutes now, watching from the side of the store as he chats away to what she can only assume was his friends. his dual-toned hair had caught her attention as she exited the store, but it was a small glimpse of his countenance that made her freeze up and retreat to the corner to spy on him. she knows this boy! somehow, she does... was he one of mikey's friends? no, no she'd have met him at toman meetings. but he does kind of look like... it hits her like a fast-moving car and her stomach twitches with nerves. kazutora was out of juvie. he begins walking away, hands in his pockets and completely unaware of his secret admirer as she watches with jitters. her anxiety tells her to turn on her heel and head home, to inform mikey. but her heart tells her to follow him, to see what he was up to. it was a mystery, he was a mystery. he's been gone for years, locked up and he's back all of a sudden? it required some looking into. only, emma didn't anticipate that her curiosity would have her following him down shady-looking alleys, peeking around corners and watching him like some kind of pervert or stalker. there were secrets here to be revealed, and emma would reveal them! only, when she turns the corner she had just watched kazutora turn, she's met with a dead-end and no tiger-themed delinquent. ❝ crap... ❞ / @mirrorfates liked for a tarot card starter !

Who Are You In The Found Family Dynamic?

the hermit who helps at first, you were a resource for the established characters to turn to, but you quickly began to steal the show due to your personality, your usefulness, or your inherently interesting perspective on life. you were pretty much already able to provide for yourself, but the next thing you know, these people are growing on you. instead of asking favors, it becomes an invitation to socialize. you find yourself sticking around for no apparent reason other than you like it here. the people are fun to watch, if nothing else, but ultimately they're just--oh no. oh no, you care about them. you always thought you stayed away from this "relationship" stuff for a reason. it gets messy and isn't worth it unless it really works. for some reason, this group really works. these weirdos are now your weirdos, and if anything happens to them, there will be hell to pay. you were basically already looking after them before this, after all. welcome to the family, hermit.

( send a 👫 and I’ll write four headcanons I have about our muse’s relationship. )

001. the codependent relationship between Amane and Tsukasa affected their interactions with others. they would appear exclusive or closed off to outsiders, excluding others intentionally to prioritize their relationship above all else. they had pinky promised each other about it ( one would not be without the other, after all. ) while the other kids in their neighborhood engaged in lively play, with screams and cheers filling the air; Amane and Tsukasa would sit as far as they can from them, talking and making up their own games with each other.

002. being the older brother, Amane has always carried the weight of responsibility on his shoulders. from a young age -- he understood that he had to be the protector / caretaker for his twin, even as far as taking on any repercussions from bad behavior that wasn't his own doing. it was easy too ... seeing as they were IDENTICAL, no one would know the difference. he actually prided himself on being the dependable sibling, always striving to be a pillar of comfort. at home, Amane embraced this role wholeheartedly, looking after Tsukasa, cooking hot meals when their parents weren't around, supporting him emotionally, and standing up for him when no one else would.

003. frequently they'd engage in games, and it's often Tsukasa who takes the lead in deciding what game they will play. Amane never has a choice in the matter so he will always play, too. among these games, there is one that Tsukasa particularly enjoys and repeatedly chooses: the knife game. it didn't always have to be a knife, it could be any sharp object, ones that he'd find in the woods of their backyard. Tsukasa would forcefully place Amane's palms flat on any surface; even if he protested, even if he cried out in fear while anxiously splaying his fingers apart. even when his brother is stabbing the space in between, there's a repetitive thought: he should trust him, it's fine. he should trust his little brother. it's just a game. besides, Tsukasa was skillful in maneuvering the blade, he had an eye for precision -- with hushed promises that he wouldn't strike Amane unless he moved.

004. his brother looks the same, but something has changed. it was a gradual, jarring contrast from before. people naturally change as they get older so it's not uncommon for growing boys their age. their mother frequently takes Tsukasa away on weekend trips, the purpose of which remains a mystery to Amane -- but each time they returned from their outing, there's a subtle shift in their interactions. it manifested as flinching when Tsukasa hugs him from behind too roughly, or when Tsukasa twists Amane's words to alter the narrative that would best fit his needs.

(BONUS) 005. Amane finds himself grappling with a haunting conclusion: he believes he is at fault -- it must be his fault, what else would it be? he's convinced himself that the blame lies solely with him that his brother is the way he is now. deep down, he senses this truth, but it finally emerges from his subconscious and forcefully shines a spotlight on itself. overwhelmed by guilt, he perceives his own failures as an older brother, realizing that he hasn't protected Tsukasa as much as he should have and hasn't always been there for him. when Amane wanted to have other friends, new connections, and hang out with other people -- Tsukasa only wanted to keep playing with Amane Amane Amane -

(CONT.) 006. it has to be him: he's the problem. his little brother wouldn't hurt him without a reason, he knows that to be true. Amane thinks Tsukasa is the kindest person he knows ( even when the hands that Amane had sworn to protect are scratching at him until there's blood, holding so tightly until there are bruises, biting until his skin breaks. ) Amane has to be doing something wrong -- that has to be it. Tsukasa represents everything Amane holds dear, the person he loves most in the world. he's an awful brother for not trying better, for feeling frightened, for thinking such awful thoughts about him. the irony weighs heavily upon him—how could he, someone who should be looking after his brother, be afraid of him? so, if he is afraid of the person he should be caring for, he somehow deserves all of those scratches and bruises on him, right?

future foundation had originally stormed in to rescue the hostages kept by junko enoshima. chiaki had volunteered for the mission, despite his lack of experience in actual combat situations, because it wasn't supposed to be this dangerous. still walking with a limp from barely surviving that dungeon designed to kill her a little over a year ago, she should, theoretically, be easy to take out.

yet somehow she's survived to this point. she survived the initial onslaught of monokumas, even though it separated her from the group she was with, and she's survived being banded and tagged like a wild animal by the children who took over the city. maybe her natural instincts have been sharpened by all the games she's played, able to navigate the city with ease and strategize in situations where she lacks the advantage.

now he stands face to face with someone he thought he'd never see again. clutching his hacking gun until his knuckles turn white, he stares komaeda down.

"what does that matter to you?" she challenges. "remnant of despair."
