Top-5 liveries in the MotoGP paddock
Okay so disclaimer, I watched motogp before stopping in 2015 because I went to boarding school. Then I continue watching again in 2020 and has been trying to rewatch all the seasons I've missed since. But the thing is, I have shit memories so I don't really remember the seasons pre 2015 too except for 2011 so yeah, not much old liveries in this list, unfortunately :(
1) 2020 SRT Petronas Yamaha
Tumblr media
I'm Malaysian so I may be biased but I really love the green petronas colour on the bike. The black leathers look beautiful too and I love seeing that bike on the parc ferme whenever Franky got on the podium so I have really fond memories with this livery. Hmm, I missed this livery so much :(
2) 2013 Yamaha Sepang test
Tumblr media
I stumbled upon this picture a few moments back and like WHAT A SEXY LIVERY!!! Love love the grey black livery it makes it looks mysterious and menacing and just.. seriously what a sexy livery.
3) 2021 Sky VR46 Mugello
Tumblr media
I know that sky vr46 has multiple tricolor liveries but last year's mugello is my favourite. I love that when the camera is from the side it looks like it's a green bike but when you look at the other side it's red. It's my first time seeing that livery so it's really cool for me haha
4) 1993 Yamaha Marlboro
Tumblr media
So I know of this livery's existence because my twin keeps on talking about how sexy the Marlboro livery on the Ferrari during Michael Schumacher's dominance era. So I just randomly search if there's a Marlboro livery bike and voilà! Sure smoking is bad for you but Marlboro does know how to create one hell of a gorgeous livery huh.
5) 2022 Gresini Racing Misano
Tumblr media
I love the livery it gives me a really nostalgic feeling and knowing that it's a tribute to Fausto Gresini makes it more heart warming. BUT. One of the reasons why I find it sexy is because of the leathers.
Tumblr media
That shade of blue is so pleasant to see I was gaping when I saw it. I love the leathers so much I was low-key disappointed when they went back with the usual grey suit on the next race hmm
Honorary mention:
2022 Mooney VR46 Misano
Tumblr media
Okay so this is a stunning livery but the first time I saw it I was like 🤨. I don't know it's just not my style but I do end up liking it in the end (before I realised it's a cursed livery). Um, that aside, it's on this list because just like the Gresini's special livery, I fucking love the leathers.
Tumblr media
I love purple so much and so does blue. Especially that shade of purple and blue. The leathers are so beautiful and just NDHDBSJSBHDBDHDH. I love it so much I stare at this picture for quite some time because how wonderful would that be if there's a livery that use the color scheme of the top colours on the racing suit: white, purple, blue. But it doesn't happen, sadly.

#PerfectComb1nation: Pecco Bagnaia is the 2022 MotoGP World Champion!
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The Italian takes the premier class crown after a tense race in Valencia, becoming the first Ducati rider to win the title for 15 years. Francesco Bagnaia (Ducati Lenovo Team) is the 2022 MotoGP™ World Champion! The incredible rollercoaster comeback is complete as the Italian came home in the top ten in Valencia to secure the crown, having overcome a deficit of 91 points back before summer break. Bagnaia is the first Ducati rider to take the crown since Casey Stoner in 2007, the first Italian to achieve the feat since Valentino Rossi in 2009, and first Italian on an Italian bike since Giacomo Agostini in 1972. Born in Turin, Bagnaia enjoyed MiniMoto success before going international onto bigger machinery in the then-CEV in 2011 on a 125, learning his craft before moving up to the Moto3™ World Championship for 2013. Joining the VR46 Riders Academy and then moving to SKY VR46 for 2014, the pieces were in motion before a statement season. On Mahindra at Aspar for 2015, he was the lead rider for the squad and only confirmed that in 2016 as he took the bike’s first ever win – and second. The first was at Assen and the second Sepang, earning him a special treat from the team: the chance to try the MotoGP™ bike in the post-season Valencia test. Bagnaia moved up to Moto2™ in 2017 with the new Sky Racing Team VR46 intermediate class effort and was Rookie of the Year, taking several podiums. In 2018 he then hit the ground running and was a contender for the crown from the off, with imperious form and some incredible wins seeing him take the title in Malaysia. Next stop: MotoGP™. Despite showing impressive speed in his first outings in the premier class in testing, it was a difficult rookie year for Bagnaia at Pramac Racing. Still, a fantastic fourth place in at Phillip Island showed plenty signs of promise. 2020 proved a mixed year for the Italian, but he earned an impressive second place in the San Marino GP and a week later at the same track, he was on the verge of a maiden premier class victory until a heartbreaking crash ended his hopes. He never quite got going again in the remaining races that year, but 2021 saw him move to the factory squad and signalled the start of a whole new chapter. Three podiums and a pole in the opening four rounds signalled the Italian as a title contender and, despite a blip in the middle of the season, he was the last remaining challenger to eventual Champion Fabio Quartararo (Monster Energy Yamaha MotoGP™) – and finished the year as the rider with the momentum. From a debut MotoGP™ win at Aragon after an incredible head-to-head with Marc Marquez to an amazing victory in Misano a week after, Bagnaia had arrived and he signed off the season with a win in Valencia, too. 2022, however, began on the back foot. A crash in Qatar, a tough race in Lombok, two fifths and an eighth signalled an unexpected start to the season, but Jerez saw the number 63 back on top in a race-long chess match with Quartararo. Then came another crash, at Le Mans, and then another win at Mugello as the Italian took the spoils on home turf. But the rollercoaster went down again as bad luck saw him take home a zero in Barcelona and a mistake caused the same at the Sachsenring. Then, Bagnaia was 91 points behind points leader Quartararo, the biggest deficit overcome to date. The best way to stage a comeback is to start winning, and Bagnaia did just that as he took an awesome four victories in a row in Assen, Silverstone, Austria and Misano. In Aragon it was second place one year on from his first win, but it was hundredths in it as he duelled it out against 2023 teammate Enea Bastianini. Again. But the rollercoaster was in motion once more at Motegi as Bagnaia slid out on the very last lap – and from right behind key rival Quartararo, losing some ground hard-gained since summer break. Thailand marked a huge challenge as a rainy race day gave many flashbacks of Lombok, where Quartararo has taken a podium and Bagnaia only one single point, but fortunes were reversed at Buriram as Pecco podiumed and El Diablo failed to score. Then came Australia and a crash for Quartararo as Bagnaia once again got back on the box, before a tense, tense first match point at Sepang. There, it was once again Bagnaia vs Bastianini. All race long the two went toe-to-toe, with all eyes on the duo who will share the factory garage next season. But this time it was the number 63 who kept the nerves under control and the upper hand on track, taking his seventh win of the season to pull out a 23-point lead as Quartararo put in an impressive stand with a podium. And so, #TheDecider had arrived. Two riders, 23 points, and one crown. It was a nervy weekend for Bagnaia at times but once the lights went out, the track lit up with an incredible race to sign off an era of Grand Prix racing. Quartararo was pushing to get to the front and it got heated for a few tense, gloves-off laps between the Frenchman and the Ducatis – and a few more – but as the race went on the result seemed set: Quartararo had to win to retain the crown, and win he would not. Bagnaia, having lost some aero in a tangle with the Frenchman, kept it calm but slipped back in the top ten once that became clear – and crossed the line in ninth to crown himself 2022 MotoGP™ World Champion. Complimenti, Pecco! #GoFree and fiesta!
Tumblr media
#PerfectComb1nation IN STATS Francesco Bagnaia is the first Italian rider to clinch a premier class world title since Valentino Rossi in 2009. Overall, he is the seventh different Italian rider to do so along with Giacomo Agostini (8), Valentino Rossi (7), Umberto Masetti (2), Libero Liberati (1), Marco Lucchinelli (1) and Franco Uncini (1). Bagnaia’s title is the 21st in the premier class for Italy and the 80th overall in Grand Prix racing. Bagnaia became the second Ducati rider to take the premier class world title along with Casey Stoner in 2007. Aged 25 years and 296 days old, Bagnaia is the oldest rider to clinch his maiden MotoGP™ world title since the introduction of the class in 2002. Nicky Hayden in 2006 is next: 25 years and 91 days old.
Tumblr media
Bagnaia is the first Italian rider on an Italian bike to win the premier class title since MotoGP™ Legend Giacomo Agostini in 1972 with MV Agusta. At the 2022 San Marino GP, Bagnaia took a fourth win in four successive GP races, becoming the first ever Ducati rider to do so in any class of GP racing. Since the introduction of MotoGP™ in 2002, Bagnaia became the fourth different rider to take four (or more) wins in four (or more) successive races in the class along with Valentino Rossi, Jorge Lorenzo and Marc Marquez. With 11 premier class wins, all with Ducati, Bagnaia sits in third place on the list of Ducati riders with most wins in the class behind Casey Stoner (23 wins) and Andrea Dovizioso (14). With 20 premier class podiums so far, Bagnaia is the fifth Ducati rider with most podiums in the class, behind Jack Miller (21 podiums). Casey Stoner leads the way with 42 podiums. This season Bagnaia has stood on the MotoGP™ podium more than any other rider (10 times), including seven wins. Only two Ducati riders have scored seven (or more) wins in a single season: Casey Stoner (10 in 2007) and Bagnaia (2022). After the German GP, Bagnaia was sixth in the Championship, 91 points off the leader Fabio Quartararo, meaning this is the best point recovery to take the crown since the introduction of the point scoring system in 1993. Since 2001, there have been only two occasions on which the rider who clinched the title at the end of the year didn’t finish within the top five in the opening race of season: Joan Mir (2020) and Francesco Bagnaia (2022); they both crashed out. Bagnaia also became the first rider to clinch the premier class title despite five DNFs throughout the season. Bagnaia is only the second rider to clinch the premier class world title having previously clinched the Moto2™ title, along with Marc Marquez.
Tumblr media
PECCO BAGNAIA How does it feel? "I'm very, very happy because on the day of the worst race of the calendar I've had a special sweet taste When I crossed the finish line and saw my pit board with writing saying I was the World Champion everything was brighter and nicer. My emotion is incredible in this moment. It wasn't easy because after the fight with Fabio I lost a winglet and from that moment everything was a nightmare. I've done lap by lap trying ride defensive lines, but it was very difficult, and it took so long to finish the race. I'm very proud of my team, myself and of what we did because it's incredible." Did you think it was going to be difficult after Germany? "Yeah, like I said one or two races ago, I lost the faith in the championship for one hour after the Sachsenring race but then after that I knew there was still a chance to be World Champion. Sincerely, the work we did this year was incredible. We performed in an incredible way in the second part of the year. We tried to analyze everything, at home also, to see what to improve, why I was crashing and I was making so many mistakes, and from that moment we've just done some incredible. I'm very happy for that because we really deserve this title." Most difficult moment + best moment? "The most difficult was Sachsenring, because I was very competitive like in Le Mans. I was there with a possibility to win the race, but I crashed and in that moment I realised my weak point was that. I was a rider with a lot of ups and downs, with good speed but no consistency. To accept that was not easy. From that moment I recognised I had a problem and I tried to improve myself, also thanks to the people at home that worked with me everything day and helped me a lot. I think I improved myself a lot this season." On Ducati's long wait: "I saw many faces crying, and it was incredible. I was crying too. It was an amazing victory because I was feeling the weight on my shoulders to give back this title to my team, to Ducati, and to Italy. When I spoke to Vale, he said to me yesterday that you have you be proud to have this possibility, not everyone can have the same feeling. It's true that you feel the pressure, you feel anxiety, you feel fear, but you have to be proud of it, be happy to have it, and try to enjoy it. I tried to do it, and today in fact it didn't work but sincerely I'm very happy to think who we have as a mentor and leader.

Mid-Week Motorsport Headlines - 22nd September 2021
F1
Aston Martin have confirmed that they will retain the same line up for 2022. It has worked pretty well for them during what has been a tough year, Vettel has been reborn in some ways, and produced some great races, whilst Stroll is continuing to grow as he races in F1. I wonder how much longer Sebastien will stay in the sport.
In further Aston Martin news, Martin Whitmarsh will join the team to oversee its operation. He will report directly to the team’s owner, Lawrence Stroll, whilst watching over Otmar Szafnauer, who runs the teams on track work. His previous time in F1 was not super successful, when he ran McLaren, at a time when it got so close to another title, without quite getting it done. He has done other work since then, and could be another useful aide, in bringing the team to the forefront of the sport.
IndyCar
The 2022 schedule has been revealed, which in a lot of ways is similar to this year’s one. It does start a bit earlier, with its first race in February since 2004, and there is now just 1 race at Texas, which I think we can all agree was the right move. Rather surprisingly, there will be only 1 race at Detroit too, which we had all got used to being a doubleheader. This is probably as a result of TV timings. Iowa back on the calendar is a massive plus, as it is a fantastic oval, and Laguna Seca could be a thrilling finale, if this year is anything to go by. Overall, with 14 races on network NBC, the future is looking up for IndyCar.
Honda clinched the manufacturers title at the Firestone Grand Prix, their 10th in the sport. It is not a surprise really, given the pace of Chip Ganassi Racing this year, and Dale Coyne Racing too. Add to that the slight demise of Penske, compared to what we usually see, and it all makes sense. That being said, it could all change for 2022.
MotoGP
Lecuona is very annoyed with KTM for not allowing him to ride in the Misano test, instead favouring the rookies who will join the team next year. I can see why the team has done it, to try and help them get up to speed for 2022. I think the anger more comes from the decision to drop Iker in the first place.
Dovizioso has said that Quartararo is doing crazy things on the Yamaha, in order to have the pace he has got. He also said that his bike is very particular, and can’t understand where it differs from the factory bike. Chances are there is a major difference, as everyone who has run that bike all year, have found it difficult to adapt to it.
Rossi believes that MotoGP in Italy will be fine once he has left. With the emergence of Bagnaia and Bastiannini, you can see where he is coming from, as there shouldn’t be a vacuum of talent in Italy after he leaves. I am sure that some fans will leave, simply because they only watched the sport for 1 man, but hopefully most are more committed MotoGP fans, and will stay for the future.

IBF, Italian Bike Festival 2022
Tumblr media
Quartararo quickest, Marquez hits 100 laps at Misano
Tumblr media
Yamaha progress plain on Wednesday, MM93 back out to reach a full century of track time over both days. Crews are packing up after the completion of two days of action at the Official MotoGP™ Misano Test, and it is the Monster Energy Yamaha MotoGP™ Team on top of the timesheets. Fabio Quartararo finished Day 2 with a 1:31.054, the fastest time of the test overall, while at the Repsol Honda Team, Marc Marquez continued to accumulate laps in his comeback.
Tumblr media
YAMAHA Much of the pre-test talk centred around Yamaha’s new engine, and the top speed charts made for very encouraging reading indeed. Quartararo clocked 298.3km/h in the pre-lunchtime running on Wednesday, third on that metric at less than 2km/h slower than Jorge Martin (Prima Pramac Racing) recorded on one of the Bologna bullets otherwise known as a Ducati. ‘El Diablo’ admitted he used a slipstream to achieve that speed, but was still quite happy with what the Iwata manufacturer has rolled out. He was fastest in that morning session on a 1:31.116 before shaving off a little more time in the afternoon to consolidate his place at the top. Yamaha also worked on a new chassis, as well as new aerodynamic pieces, with different versions seen on the bikes of Quartararo and Franco Morbidelli, who finished the test 12th-fastest overall. While Misano is very much about developing a bike for the following season, it might also give Quartararo a big boost to his hopes of back-to-back World Championship titles, given Team Manager Massimo Meregalli says that the new chassis could appear as soon as the upcoming Gran Premio Animoca Brands de Aragon. Intriguingly, Meregalli also reported that Yamaha may have found a way to achieve more power this year, which would require a development somewhere other than the engine. What have they got up their sleeve, and we will see the evidence of that in Aragon also?
Tumblr media
HONDA Marc Marquez fans rejoice! The eight-time World Champion completed another 61 laps on Day 2 of the Misano test. It was certainly not the most mileage, but he notched up a solid haul in both of the Wednesday sessions – an extremely positive sign for the Honda rider’s fitness after his arm surgery in June, and therefore an extremely positive sign for Honda in general. As for the machinery, there was plenty going on at Honda as well. The Kalex swingarm which HRC Test Rider Stefan Bradl tried out on Day 1 was back again on Day 2 – and this time, it was seen on one of Marc Marquez’s bikes. The #93 had three different examples of the RC213V at his disposal, those being a pair of 2022 versions and more of a 2023 model, and Honda tested three different air intakes across its fleet of motorcycles. Bradl also tried out a different exhaust, and even did some back-to-back running with the 2021 bike. On the timesheets, Marc Marquez was Honda’s best in 13th for the test on combined times, having gone as fast as a 1:31.642 in the morning session on Day 2. More importantly, however, there is plenty for the Japanese marque’s technical gurus to pore over in coming weeks and months as preparations for next season ramp up. DUCATI San Marino GP winner Francesco Bagnaia (Ducati Lenovo Team) finished the test second-fastest thanks to the 1:31.172 which he set before lunchtime on Day 2, while the man who was runner-up last Sunday, Enea Bastianini (Gresini Racing MotoGP™) claimed fourth in the test on a 1:31.260. None of the Ducati riders ventured onto the track in the afternoon, while Mooney VR46 Racing Team had already wrapped up its testing on Day 1. In the main, the Bologna marque worked on chassis and new aerodynamics, although only with Bagnaia and Bastianini. Meanwhile, Jack Miller (Ducati Lenovo Team) had a spill at Turn 4 – rider okay.
Tumblr media
APRILIA Both of Aprilia Racing’s full-time Grand Prix riders, Maverick Viñales and Aleix Espargaro, finished in the top five, the former third on a 1:31.189 and the latter fifth on a 1:31.333 – both set in the morning session on Day 2. Of particular note, however, was that Espargaro’s crash in that session has left him with a broken little finger on his left hand. Thankfully, he will not need surgery, and while the Argentina GP winner admitted to being in pain, he expects to be okay to ride at the Aragon GP. The Noale manufacturer tested different chassis and, like Yamaha, could roll out a new specification as soon as Aragon. There was also new aerodynamics to trial as well. KTM Despite chatter in the paddock, Red Bull KTM Factory Racing Team Manager Francesco Guidotti said that the Austrian manufacturer did not have a 2023 prototype at Misano, although it did test 2023 parts. Miguel Oliveira was quickest of its riders on a 1:31.585 although much of the development work was done by Brad Binder and test rider Dani Pedrosa - with the former putting in a big effort of 46 laps on the Wednesday afternoon.
Tumblr media
SUZUKI Team Suzuki Ecstar completed its programme on Day 1 of the test, and was not in action on Day 2. That’s a wrap on the Misano test, but make sure you check out motogp.com for more news and insights from two fascinating days of action which will shape not only next year, but also the rest of the 2022 season. Then, tune in for MotorLand on September 16-18!

Mid-Week Motorsport Headlines - 6th October 2021
F1
Red Bull will run a special white livery this weekend, in tribute to Honda, who are leaving the sport this year. It is believed that the initial plan was to run it at Suzuka, however the race there was subsequently cancelled. It is inspired by the livery of the first Honda car to win an F1 race, back in 1965, at the Mexican Grand Prix.
After Leclerc had an engine penalty in Russia, Sainz is set to take an engine penalty this weekend. Which means both cars will have their 2022 spec engines in, which could give them some brilliant data for next year! It is a really smart move by them, as the performance of the new engine can aid them this year, and they will only probably finish 4th at worst in the constructors. Plus, they can learn so much now, that the real 2022 engine could be even better than originally planned!
Formula E
Once again, there has been a large growth in the viewing audience, for the last season of Formula E. This includes a 156% growth in the UK, likely aided by the return of the London ePrix. The cumulative audience for the season was 316 million, an increase on 32%, which when compared to any series other than F1, is pretty good going. The audience in Germany grew by a staggering 338%, and 286% in Brazil. It is likely this will start to stagnate soon; however, you do have to be impressed with how they have done so far.
IndyCar
We had a feeling it was coming, but RLL has finally announced that Sato will be leaving the team, after 5 years with them. With 4 wins in that time, he hasn’t exactly done badly, although he has been rather inconsistent, as we have always seen from Takuma. I do think it was time for him to move on, and who knows where he will be next year. I can’t see him getting a full time ride, but he would be a great choice for the Indy 500 next year!
MotoGP
Both Quartararo and Bagnaia have said they will not focus too much on the title at Misano, this will probably be easier for Bagnaia, as he has nothing to lose really. That being said, give how well Fabio has coped so far this year, I can’t really see him making any major mistakes at Misano, although I have probably now cursed him!
Mir does not respect the penalty that was given to him for the move on Miller. I can see that he wasn’t being ultra-aggressive, however he did force Jack rather wide, and probably couldn’t have made the corner if he hadn’t been there. That is probably why the stewards decided to give him a penalty.
Other News
Alpine has announced it will be joining the LMDh category of endurance racing from 2024. This is not surprising, given they borrowed an old LMP1 car for this year, which did look as though they were testing the waters to see if they could handle the logistics of an endurance operation! This adds further excitement for the future of WEC and IMSA, although I am sure the FIA will not be pleased that another manufacturer is using the LMDh formula, and not their one!

Rossi e Lorenzo, il futuro è sulle quattro ruote in auto?
Tumblr media
