THANKS SEI. OK OK HERE HERE brainrot time. Um reading cut bc I think I'm just gonna word vomit.

Ok first things first. For the Bigtop Burger au, I'm still rolling with Lark's idea where Dood essentially infested and turned a normal food truck into an eldritch, Doodler foodtruck. That FUN and CUTE. ALSO SEI IM MAKING YOUR'S AND LARK'S MAKEUP IDEAS CANON IN MY HEAD BC THEY BALL SO HARD.... Scary purple drippy makeup, Normal has school-spirit pep rally dots ( I think maybe either blue and red bc purple OR yellow and blue bc. cute?), Taylor in my head has orange flame inspired makeup, and Linc has green football stripes :]

As for the function of the food truck, I haven't thought too hard bc this au strikes me less as a super serious story one, and moreso as a S1 Bigtop Burger au where Shit Just Happens For Fun. The teens run it on the side as a cover for Dood and to get around while making some money ( maybe the money they earn is converted into daddy Warbucks bc that gimmick was good). Also Scam Likely has a food truck and it's a zomburger esc. rivalry. And I was maybe think the Mayor/The other Dooderlized people have one too but i'm not sure about that! I'd like to hear thoughts!

+ I was just thinking it would be cute if the other NPCs got roped into it for a brief amount of time. Like Erica, Margherita, Hermie OFC ( he's gonna pull grand-theft auto instead of a mascot heist), maybe the Varsity Soccer Team... something something, another Agent Schmegan car chase but it's an eldritch clown food truck filled with teenagers. I JUST MISS THIS SILLY AU AND I'M ALWAYS DOWN FOR BIGTOP BURGER,,

The Actor au is super similar in that it's not really anything besides silly, but I was just thinking of more fun scenarios! Like Henry having to be suspended in the air while doing "magic" because I love. shots of actors dangling in their dumb littles harnesses. Or clips of a show without the effects put in so it's just dorks waving their hands around and yelling. I was also thinking about how actors do side interviews/gameshows(?) and how the bonus episodes of the show are Just That.

OKOK and for the Krampus au(?) or whatever I'm doing with that because I'm just. thinking. plotting. But I wanna keep the silly art side idea with Glenn as Krampus, Darryl as Santa, Henry as a Christmas Elf, and Ron as like....a big gingerbread man. but I was thinking maybe a real au.

the main setup I have right now is the Dads being normal. vaguely-fantasy. villagers. Darryl being a carpenter/woodsman, Henry being a town healer maybe, and Ron being a traveling merchant who lives there/sets up shop. But there's a Weird Fucked Up Creature in the woods and everybody tells their kids its Krampus and they're gonna get stolen/eaten if they misbehave and he becomes this genuine myth. But turns out! probably after one of them runs into him in the woods ( probably Darryl), it's just. Glenn. and he's a goat demon monster but he's actually Pretty Chill! and he starts coming around town more and messing with people bc the Dads pretty much "invited him in" y'know. I was also thinking about having Nick as a baby goat demon...... unsure if Morgan would also be a demon or a human woman....

Thats just my way of getting my fill of monster content because I LOVE. WHEN PEOPLE HAVE TO PUT UP WITH MONSTERS... and they're already so awkward around monsters in universe so them having to navigate this demon who hangs out on their roof is PERFECT.

I also have my various unplanned/nonsense-aus cluttered around. Like the Dads as monsters, I was thinking a Swap Au ( either just Closeson or all the Dads. If all, I think it was that Darryl was the Bard, Ron was the Barbarian, Henry was the Rouge, and Glenn is the Druid. Alternatively, Darryl-Rouge, Glenn-Barbarian, Henry-Bard, and Ron-Druid).

I have a lot of thoughts and none of them string together coherently.

TLDR; In this new ZeroBaseOne interactive AU fanfiction game, the reader plays as the 10th member of a K-Pop group mistreated by their company and on a downward spiral. One day, there's a glitch in the matrix-- causing our reader to enter the "Metaverse", where they receive special superpowers through the birth of their true self in the form of a Persona. What if the members of ZeroBaseOne can band together as the Phantom Thieves to take down their company and save themselves from their fate?

An interactive game featuring hand-edited media, polls, and a points-system that gives the reader their own specially-tailored ending (will determine which love interest they end up with). Will be just as funny as it is angsty, I promise.

Excellent! The story in question features the nine members of ZeroBaseOne (well, 10 actually; including you, dear Player!) and their journey both in the real world and the Metaverse to defeat a company that has taken advantage of them for years. But before we get too far into the plot, let me introduce myself. I'm Kara, aka jebewonmorelike and I'll be your Game Master. I'll check in with you at the beginning of every chapter to give you reminders, content warnings, and any miscellaneous info you might need.

I'm sure by now you've realized that this is no ordinary work of fanfiction. No, no. It's something a bit different. A bit special, even.

I know! I can't take all the credit, though. This fanfiction game is heavily-inspired by the JRPG game Persona 5. What is Persona 5 about? The great part is that, honestly, it doesn't really matter whether you've had experience with the game or not in order to play the game I've designed for you today...

Don't sweat it! I'm gonna explain everything you need to know right now and it's nothing you should find too complicated. How does that sound, Player?

Wonderful! I had a good feeling about you right from the very beginning, Player.

Our story is, of course, about a group called ZeroBaseOne... Or, well... To be more precise, it's a story about a group that used to be called ZeroBaseOne. A little over a year ago, some sh*t went down and turned their whole world upside down forever.

While all ages and genders are welcome to play this game (our OC is pronoun-free!), there might be some mature themes in this game. Nothing too crazy-- swearing, mild violence, angst, drinking, crime, some suggestive themes, and, above all, bringing justice to a company that mistreats its talent...

Are you okay with a PG-13+ rated game, Player?

Great! And, don't worry: there will be plenty of comedy, too. Comedy, to me, is essential to any plot. I think you're gonna really like this game! I hope. *Sigh*

Aw... Thank you, Player. I appreciate the reassurance. I've been second-guessing my writing for months now and--... Oh, sorry, back to the description of the game!

Like I was saying, ZeroBaseOne doesn't really look much like the one we know in real life. Instead, the members are a bit older, a bit more worn out and, honestly, having a pretty rough go of it at this point. And whose to blame for that?

You're so smart, Player! Of course it's their company. I'd like to just state quickly that this game is just that-- a game. Fictional; a story! No agencies or people in this game are representative of real life things. Especially not their fictional company. *Bombastic side-eye*.

So why did I decide to make this game? Well, we all love reading fanfiction. But wouldn't it be even more fun if the reader had a say in the story? If the reader's choices led to the creation of their own specially-crafted fanfiction just for them?

Maybe, by now, you're wondering just what exactly are you playing this game to win? Well it's what almost everybody wants a shot at in life... Love. Throughout this game, you will make decisions that will give you points towards different group members. Keep track of your score and, at the end of the game, the member who you've earned the most points for will determine your ending (and your love interest).

All game resources will be listed in the description of each chapter, at the top and bottom of this introductory post, and on the Steal Your Heart masterlist. There will be many opportunities to interact with this game and it will include a lot of hand-edited graphics to look at it! I hope you enjoy them, as I've planned them quite tediously.

BACKGROUND:

so i’m reworking her background,, hence why she has a completely different name and everything,, bc her original one?? the angst in it wld have no place here!! gotta have a reason for it!! but this bitch?? labeled her ‘the lucky penny’ for a reason

so we’re fully embracing the rose nylund side of her.

she was born in this super small town in themiddleofnowhere, usa. basically springfield - literally no one, including the residents of the town, would be able to tell you where it is. can’t find it on a map. just gotta rely on that connection.

is this half-comedy, half “i’m entirely serious”? why yes, yes it is. 

in the state of indiana that’s all anyone knows.

it was full of what one can only describe as ‘characters’ - aka, complete caricatures. even her family!!

as the middle child, lottie always had someone one-upping her. older brother? the school casanova! he could nibble any girl’s name into a corncob WITH their SPECIFICALLY REQUESTED FONT!! who could beat that!!! 

older sister? she got davy jones from the monkees to appear at the 2010 homecoming. davy jones!!! 

then the younger ones were just cute i don’t know what to tell you.

with her siblings being so in the spotlight (you know… by the standards of whatever town they were in…), lottie searched far and wide for the thing she was good at. she couldn’t fire-breathe well. she was decent at juggling, but things got messy when a chainsaw was thrown in (they still mourn paul williger’s hand). somehow… one of the last things she tried… was acting. 

but she wound up being really good at that!! so she put her entire being into it!! and just trusted that ‘good’ by her town’s standards doubled as ‘good’ by other standards!!

and, considering she was accepted into an arts school on her acting merits, they apparently were!!!!!!!!!

so this next part is based on how entirely shocked i was at the story of how victoria pedretti got the role of nell + her label: with literally only one thing on her resume, it being a student film that was exclusive to youtube and was more performance art -esque than anything… she was apparently the perfect fit for a netflix original role. she sent in literally a stupid home-recording audition… and yet she got the role of the main character, thus beginning her lucky streak.

this streak has yet to be broken, but the story goes that it’s only a matter of time!! sister’s probs gonna suddenly become a really good actor :\ steal all the roles :\ i haven’t named her but it’s gonna have to be a name like ‘marcia’

One Year: Carnation Books Staff Q&A- Lee, CEO

What do you do for Carnation? 

I like to describe myself as the Captain of this Starship, but I guess you can technically also call me the CEO (that's my legal title). I was fortunate enough to be in the right time and place and have the resources to bring Carnation Books to life, but it's been a tremendous group effort as well, bringing a company up from zero with no outside investment. We're 100% fandom-powered, and everyone who's involved with us is also involved in fandom in some respect. As the Captain, I guess I steer the ship, but there are a lot of great people who actually make it go. 

What’s your main fandom? 

BBC Sherlock was the unquestionable impetus for Carnation's creation. It was the catalyst for me getting back into fandom after a long axe battle with depression over the better part of a decade. I first got into Sherlock when I was stranded and terribly bored on the worst vacation ever, and I was in the mood to read something completely new. "I do love murder mysteries," I said to myself, "and I've never read Sherlock Holmes. And that Benedict Cumberbatch fellow is very handsome, isn't he? He was so good as Khan in Star Trek, and isn't he Sherlock on television? And Martin Freeman is a cutie, too, and he's Watson... Well, I wouldn't mind imagining Holmes solving some mysteries together with his BFF Watson!" Ohoho, little did I know how much my life would change, from the first moment that Sherlock "gripped" John's hand at the beginning of in "A Study in Scarlet." This was in early 2015, I think? It was well after Season 3 had ended, and just before the special episode "The Abominable Bride" was announced. Since then, the BBC Sherlock fandom (and specifically Johnlock) has changed my life in ways I never could have imagined. And when people ask me this question about my main fandom, my instinct is to say Sherlock. But, to answer the actual question, uh, my fandoms and ships are:

-Star Wars (Kylo Ren/General Hux and Matt the Radar Technician/Clan Techie (the "crack ship" that blindsided me with feelings so strong I cried literal tears))

-Star Trek (Reboot Kirk/Spock and some miscellaneous pairings; I share this fandom with my husband!)

-Tolkien (Sam/Frodo and Thorin/Bilbo)

Also, my main hobby outside of western media fandom is video games, which is kind of a fandom in itself, in addition to fandoms for individual games that spin off great fanfiction and fanart. I'm also in the Game Grumps fandom, which, as a comedy Let's Play channel, is kinda peripheral to video games.

What’s your OTP?

I have three answers to this question:

1) My first OTP (before the phrase "OTP" came into frequent usage) was Mulder/Scully from "The X-Files." I had a yellow accordion folder full of G-rated fics that I carried everywhere with me for the entire summer of 1997, including on three vacations. (My parents were pretty tolerant of their quirky kid.) I read a handful of slash fics (mostly Mulder/Skinner) but I definitely didn't ship Mulder with anyone but Scully. I mean, they're totally canon.

2) My OTP for my whole adolesence was Sirius/Remus from Harry Potter. From 7th grade on, I was well obsessed with Harry Potter, and after the third book came out, I read and re-read it, and carried it everywhere with me. It was my first slash pairing where I really saw the romance, and really believed that the characters were meant to be together (and, in the case of Sirius/Remus, had already been together in the past). I read hundreds of Remus/Sirius fics during high school--definitely a formative time in my personal and fandom development. (And really, aren't they the same thing?)

3) The OTP that changed my life, John/Sherlock. What can I say about these two that haven't been said by people much cleverer and more passionate than me? All I can add here is that I'll love the two of them forever, no matter what.

What are your favorite tropes? 

FAKE RELATIONSHIP! I've been on that fake relationship drug since Mulder and Scully had to pretend to be married to solve cases. It's just as good when John and Sherlock have to do it. I love all the attendant tropes, too, like bed-sharing, awkward PDA, mutual pining, and that kiss that starts out awkward but blossoms into the real thing and leaves both characters breathless. You know, the usual. I don't know if this counts as a trope, but I only read fics with happy endings. You can have as much angst as you please, but as long as no good guys die and the pairing ends up happily living together and in love, then it's good enough for me. I love some good old-fashioned hurt/comfort, but "Happy endings only" is kind of my personal motto. 

Most fic read in one sitting? 

My longest total fic binge would probably be that one holiday where I did nothing over a 4 day weekend aside from reading the complete masterpiece "Children, Wake Up" by Holly Hark, @hollyhark aka hollycomb on AO3 (https://archiveofourown.org/series/386986). It was absolutely glorious.

What are you reading right now? 

Right now my imagination is totally taken with the Johnlock surfer AU "Gimme Shelter," by @sincewhendoyoucallme-john (https://archiveofourown.org/works/11578941/chapters/26020017). It's a total breath of fresh summer air. I don't usually read WIPs, but this one's like a vacation to the beach. A sandy, salty Pacific ocean beach in the 1970s. Listen, just read it. I'm also slowly making my way through the back catalogue of @berlynn-wohl​ (http://archiveofourown.org/users/berlynn_wohl/), but I've been at it almost a year, and my progress is frankly a bit embarassing.

What are you working on for Carnation right now?

What would you like to tell people about Carnation Books? 

The number one thing I want people to know is that we're doing everything we're doing for the love of fandom. The company is 100% devoted to fandom and fanfiction writers. We're doing this out of love for fandom, with the sole goal of uplifting and celebrating fanfiction writers. People should also know that we are a startup, we've only been around for a year, we're entirely bootstrapped with no outside funding, and we're pretty much a ragtag gang of plucky outsider underdogs when it comes to publishing (although we've gotten professional assistance where it counts, like our great publishing specialist lawyer and our accountant). We're just fans who are trying our best to support other fans, because we believe in the power of the fandom community. If you believe, too, then we want you to join us. I also want anyone reading this to know that we fully believe that the world of books is big enough for everyone. We support other publishing companies, and we support writers who choose to publish elsewhere.
