alright this is officially the weirdest sentence I have ever written for a school poster/essay:
[...] and later becomes close friends with a magical talking lion named Aslan, who was also written as an allegory for the Christian god or perhaps Jesus.

Do you ever think Atticus and Reader will like have an extremely late night because Reader won't shut up about gossip around the town, but like she doesn't mean harm by it, but Atticus is like 😐, sorry if this seems boring but I love your fics x
Midnight Gossip
hey, this was going to be longer but I can't seem to write longer fics as much as I want too, when I started writing this I was doing Y/N but it felt very clunky to write with so I just made an OC to replace it with, I hope you don't mind!
Tumblr media
The time was getting onto around 9:30 pm, and Atticus was just about at his limit. He laid in bed, the book he was reading sat on his chest, flipped over. He groggily looked at Alice, who was rambling excitedly about the town gossip, which didn’t particularly interest him, especially when it was this late. Alice was from the city, he didn’t think she would pick up the small town mannerisms of the other woman who lived near them, but it didn’t seem that Alice struggled with that. He didn’t usually mind her gossip, he enjoyed her company, and if she enjoyed something he would do his best to enjoy that as well, but he was struggling tonight.
“And you know, Honey, I heard that Miss Stephanie has been having some sort of a aff---”
Atticus cut her off, in a need to get some sleep. This was far later than he would like to be up.
“Dear, it’s getting on late, and I hate to interrupt, but I have to sleep,” Atticus said, putting his book on the bedside table and rolling over to face Alice. She seemed a bit dampened after that, but not enough for Atticus to read in her pale face. His glasses were off so he currently could not see her face well, and he was as tired as a dog.
“Oh, okay. Well, no worries Honey, we can talk more tomorrow” Alice says.
“Yes, more tomorrow,” Atticus says exhausted, but also satisfied she didn’t get too upset. He rolls over and shuts off the lamp before closing his eyes and drifting off to sleep the best he could.
The next morning Atticus noticed Alice had been acting a bit off. She left for work far earlier than she had to, which was strange because she always dreaded work. He worried something he had said last night had upset her, which he never meant to do.
Atticus out of his worry decided to ask his sister, in some ways, and for some things, he trusted her opinion. Alexandra was sitting out on the front porch, she glared out into the sunny summer street. Her sun had shaded the top of her face. Atticus stepped out on the porch, putting on the hat he had stored in his hand so he could shield himself from the sun.
“Where is Scout and Jem?” Atticus first asked.
“Just down the street at Miss Maudie's, I am sure she keeps them entertained.” she vaguely jested down the street with her hands.
There was a moment of silence where Atticus debated asking for advice. Alexandra has never been the best at advice, but he was sure it would help
“Sister, has Alice been acting a bit off this morning, or am I just not thinking right?”
Alexandra perked up and looked at Atticus, her eyebrows raised a bit.
“Acting strange? A little, but you know her better than I do, gosh. Maybe you should just ask her if everything is alright.”
Atticus was nervous to ask Alice just in case she would deflect the question like she tended to do, but it seemed his sister didn’t help much.
The next time they were alone together was the next night. He was reading and she was silent, not a word. She was lying on her back, her eyes closed but she was not sleeping. This proved to Atticus something was off. At night she would always talk to Atticus at least a bit. If she didn’t do that she was hanging on him. Atticus set his book on his bedside table and rolled over to face Alice.
“Everything alright, dear?” Atticus said in the softest tone he could muster.
“Huh me, am fine, just tired”
Just like he thought. She was deflecting. Or maybe there was nothing actually wrong, he thought. He decided to ask again.
“Are you sure? You've been acting off, and am worried I hurt your feelings.” Atticus took his hand and rubbed her forearm. His hand was rough against her soft skin, he worried it wasn’t helping much.
“It’s silly really” Alice says, retracting her arm slightly.
“Nothing is silly, tell me please.”
Alice sighed and glanced away, before returning her eyes back to Atticus. Her blue eyes looked slightly saddened, her hair covering them a bit.
“I guess I never thought about how you felt about me talking so much, like I do. I'm worried I've been bothering you without even realizing.”
That's it, Atticus thought. He was glad that she wasn’t mad at him. He wasn’t glad she was feeling a bit self conscious. He feels back for making her feel that way, but there probably not much he could have done in the way of preventing it.
“Oh dear, I apologize for making you feel like you bother me, you don’t. I was just tired, and usually I love hearing you speak, but sometimes I need my rest. It wasn’t anything against you, dear.” Atticus maintains eye contact with Alice, hoping to see her worries ease.
Alice nods slightly before Atticus speaks again. “Please dear, feel free to come to me if you ever feel upset again, or for anything you need. I love you and I want to make sure you're as pleasant and happy as you can be.”
Alice smiles at him, and places her hand on his face caressing his cheek before moving to kiss him. The kiss was soft and romantic, no sense of desire, just romance. Her lips were soft and slow as they kissed. They kissed for a while, at least it felt like that to him. She pulled away, and looked at Atticus again.
“Thank you, for being so caring and patient with me Atticus, and thank you for putting up with my gossip. I will do my best to try to keep in mind your feelings more often.” Alice says.
“Thank you dear, I think it’s getting a bit late and we should call it a night.”
Alice nods and Atticus rolls over and turns off the lamp illuminating the room. Then they sleep.

Listen, as someone who also simps for Atticus I think the content with him is way too tame.
Yandere!Atticus x reader, pls 🙏
Are you my soulmate? My angel?
Tumblr media
Yandere! Atticus Finch x Gender Neutral! Reader Warning: talk of manipulation, (slight???) abuse, yandere content, mention of physical violence (not detailed) Word Count: 1.3k A/N: This is lowkey one of the wildest first requests I've gotten, especially for a nearly 50-year-old man from a book written in the 1960s. Either way, thank you for requesting lol. ˚₊‧꒰ა ♡ ໒꒱ ‧₊˚
Of all the people in Maycomb, Atticus is probably not the person you wanted obsessed with you. He’s well known and pretty well liked so there’s a possibility anything you find odd about him won’t be taken seriously.
His obsession started after Scout talked about you when she was over at Miss Maudie’s house. She went on about how you were nice like Miss Maudie. It didn’t affect Atticus too much since he just thought they thought you were kind or just Miss Maudie in a different form.
When he had a day off, he went over to find Scout, hoping she hadn’t gone off to disturb the Radley’s since he went off about it and needed a little assurance with it. Miss Maudie had gone off to buy azalea seeds for her garden and had left you behind to guard the house. And he realized how underwhelming Scout’s description of you was.
Atticus knew it felt off when he first saw you, he hadn’t felt that overbearing feeling in his heart since he had been with his wife. Even then, his heart wasn’t always pounding as hard as it is now. When you said Scout had gone off with friends, he hesitated to leave. He hoped you’d keep the conversation going but he’d accept if you didn’t without a word.
The obsession would grow as time went on, especially if you stay over the entire summer. Any time Atticus would find you outside the house, he’d stand by the window to admire you. If Scout, Jem, or Calpurnia found him looking out the window for those periods of time, he’d chalk it up to be an old man thing and just his thoughts.
If you were to ever go back to your hometown, he would be beyond disappointed about it. Throughout the summer, he had gotten closer to you out of habit and the want for your presence.
It takes Atticus several summers to confess his feelings for you. Over that period of time, he had gone out of his way to talk to you, saying he found you interesting and no matter how many times you came to Maycomb, he’d always talk to you like you were new. Either way, by the end of the third summer, he had gone with you to the train station and had confessed to you. Now, Atticus can’t deny it wasn’t in an act of trying to guilt you into staying in Maycomb with him.
You inevitably leave no matter if you reciprocate his feelings or not, he accepted it and went along his life with a bit of sadness. It was like seasonal depression for him, you weren’t there for him to admire and know you were nearby for his comfort. It would be nearly unnoticeable for his family since he acts so calm.
Over the winter, you went back to Maudie’s home in the winter season and witnessed the house fire. You were naturally devastated at the event but the same couldn’t be said for Atticus. He needed every opportunity to be near you and if a house fire was needed for it, so be it.
After it was proven you weren’t hurt, he’d suggest you stay over at his home for the time being, claiming you shouldn’t stay in a hotel, especially with how expensive they may be.
As the winter goes on with your relationship with Atticus, you gradually notice how much he truly watches you. You would read in the living room with him, silent, and you’d look up and find him quickly looking away from you.
Violence isn’t prominent in the relationship since he knows the law and knows its consequences. And it’s just not prominent in his personality either, he may threaten you but it’s more so to keep you safe. Atticus knows the law and knows how it bends to people depending on how they were. If you tried pointing out how some of the things he did were possibly illegal, he’d be simple about his explanation.
Since Atticus is a lawyer, arguments aren’t going to last long. You try pointing out how you know he’d come to the room you stayed in and check if you were there in the night, going back to bed after a couple minutes. Atticus would say it’s because he did something similar with Scout and Jem and wanted to make sure you weren’t hurt or wander off in the middle of the night.
To even out his odd behavior with you, he’d be gentle with you. Atticus is old, he’s admitted it himself. His affection will more so be about close proximity, just being in the same room is enough for him. It would mainly be sitting in the living room, reading quietly, whether on your own or not doesn’t matter. Once you get comfortable enough to sleep in the same bed, he’ll get more affectionate with you while sleeping. Probably out of habit.
If you ever did ask him why he treats you the way he does, he would just say why. Why keep you from that information? Atticus doesn’t do it with Scout or Jem, why would you be an exception? Though, he will use his words in specific ways to drive you in a direction that he wants you to go in. A lot of big words will be used specifically.
Atticus will never be violent with you; he’s never been fond of that sort of treatment anyway. He’s never physically punished his children, never been to war, and gave up using guns years earlier. He might threaten you with a hit, but it’ll never come.
He will be beyond quick to start treating you like a partner, no matter how long he’s been with you. Atticus gives it up to the idea that he’s gone so long without romance in his life.
Atticus would treat his justification similar to a court case to himself, using the things you and he have done in order to understand why something must happen. He doesn’t always let you go back to your hometown to visit family? It’s not a holiday! Oh, why does he go into your room at night and watch you for several minutes? He’s making sure you don't flee in the night! He only watches for several minutes because he has terrible eyesight. You’re his lover, it’s a natural worry (it’s not).
Atticus wouldn’t always be against the idea of manipulating you or making you think you owe things to him. It would go hand in hand with the fact he’s a father, it’s natural to want to take care of you. If you can see past his odd behavior and threaten to leave out of worry, he’ll try using the fact he’s housed and took care of you well. It will eat him alive, but he wants to keep you with him.
Free will is still prominent no matter how obsessive Atticus gets. The times when he manipulates you and keeps you with him no matter how many times you try leaving will eat him alive, causing you to have open options for many things. He will not force you to dress differently, get a different job, or stay home without any interactions with others.
You will still be held from many things, like contacting family to get them to help you leave him or leaving for another town without him with you.
If you heard about how Atticus was good with a gun, he wouldn’t try pushing the notion that he’ll never use one again but won’t say whatever he’ll use it for. He’d definitely won’t hate you knowing if you think it’s cool, though he won’t always want to demonstrate. It will be a definite ‘no’ if you suggest he teaches you, especially if you constantly threaten to leave him. He doesn’t want to be shot when he isn’t looking.

Has attempted to cook, but almost burnt the house down so Cal doesn't allow him in the kitchen anymore. for being as smart as he is, he is awful in the kitchen

Not very religious, goes to church every sunday but as he got older began to question religion more. When he was younger he was very religious because his family was religious

Wakes up at 5 am everyday without fail, then spends the first few hours of his morning reading before he gets ready for the day
Scout-
Aries; born April 12th 1927
Autistic
If she knew what being trans was, would identify as transmasc
but considering she lives in Alabama in the 1930s, she likely has never and will never hear the term transgender or know its meaning
Accident prone- often comes to Cal with little cuts and scrapes. Cal always tells her to be more careful but takes care of her injuries no matter what
Keeps a journal, though she didn't take it very seriously until she was a teen and then would make sure she journals daily
Hates Halloween after the incident. the year after the incident she stays inside for the entire evening of Halloween and snuggles with Atticus
Very artsy. Loves writing and drawing and fills her journal with little doodles relating to her day
Jem-
Taurus; born May 14th, 1923
Almost always angry about something
Just an angry little guy
Needs glasses but doesn't get them until he's around 18
Absolutely adores Scout, more than he will ever admit, but he'd do anything for her (usually. they still bicker a lot)
After Halloween, the first thing he said when he woke up in the morning was "is Scout okay?"
Jem used to love Halloween, but is cautious of it after the incident. it takes him a few years to enjoy the holiday again
Takes after Atticus in his love for reading. as he gets older, Atticus lets him barrow books with increasingly mature themes and they'd bond by discussing them
Ends up playing football in highschool but gets injured. he plays all throughout highschool despite his injury, but once he's in college he stops playing and decides he prefers watching the sport instead
Keeps the things him and Scout found in the knothole for his entire life
Maudie-
Gemini; June 19th, 1891
Lesbian
No one knows except for Atticus and her late husband
Her husband was a gay man and they married mainly for protection
despite not loving each other romantically, they were incredibly close friends and Maudie mourned the loss of him for a long time
She sees Scout and Jem and even Dill as children
She was friends with Nathan Radley when they were younger, but once Nathan moved to Pensacola they lost contact, and even when he returned they just never reconnected
Boo/Arthur-
Virgo; September 12th, 1897
Autistic
Always stimming in some way, most common stim in scrunching up his face or full body twitches
Scrapbooks and uses his scrapbook as a journal of sorts
Not very close with Nathan and often avoids him as well as he can, considering they're both in the house pretty often
Funny enough, Boo was a nickname arthur was given as a teen by his friends
He was never really a bad kid. He was just an autistic kid who struggled to make connections and when he met his friend group, they'd goad him into stupid things and he'd do them because he'd never had friends like that before
The incident where he stabbed his father did happen, but he did it not out of nowhere, but because Mr Radley was drunk and acting aggressive and it scared and frustrated Arthur so he stabbed him

Bloody hell! There's a cast and a half in this!!
BBC to air Miss Austen, starring Keeley Hawes and Rose Leslie
The four-part drama takes a literary mystery and reimagines it as a fascinating, witty and heart-breaking story of sisterly love
Tumblr media
The BBC has acquired Miss Austen, a star-studded production of Gill Hornby’s best-selling and much loved novel, produced by Bonnie Productions for MASTERPIECE in the US and distributed by Federation Studios.
The adaptation, from BAFTA-winning writer Andrea Gibb (Elizabeth is Missing, Mayflies), will star Keeley Hawes (It’s A Sin, Bodyguard, Line of Duty), Rose Leslie (Game of Thrones, Vigil), Patsy Ferran (Living, Hot Milk), Jessica Hynes (Life After Life, Years and Years), Mirren Mack (The Witcher: Blood Origin, The Nest), Phyllis Logan (Downton Abbey, Shetland), Kevin McNally (The Crown, Ten Percent), Max Irons (Condor, The Wife), Alfred Enoch (How to Get Away with Murder, Foundation), Calam Lynch (Bridgerton, Archie) and Liv Hill (The Serpent Queen, Elizabeth Is Missing).
Tumblr media
The four-part drama, directed by BAFTA-winning filmmaker Aisling Walsh (Maudie, Elizabeth is Missing) started filming last month in the UK and is produced by Stella Merz (Gentleman Jack, Renegade Nell).
Miss Austen takes a literary mystery – Cassandra Austen notoriously burning her famous sister Jane’s letters – and reimagines it as a fascinating, witty and heart-breaking story of sisterly love, while creating in Cassandra a character as captivating as any Austen heroine.
Tumblr media
The drama begins in 1830, a while after Jane has died. Cassandra (Keeley Hawes) races to see her young friend Isabella (Rose Leslie) who is about to lose her home following her father’s death. Cassandra is ostensibly there to help her friend, but her real motive is to find a stash of private letters which, in the wrong hands, could destroy Jane’s reputation. On discovering them, Cassandra is overwhelmed as she is transported back to her youth. In flashback, we meet Young Cassy and Jane (Patsy Ferran) as they navigate the infatuations, family feuds and dashed hopes which shaped their lives and laid the foundations for Jane’s unforgettable stories. Cassandra’s re-evaluation of her past eventually leads her to realise how blind she has been to the real cause of Isabella’s heartache and distress. Finding a way to guide Isabella towards true happiness, Cassandra is finally able to understand and celebrate the sacrifices she chose to make for her brilliant sister, Jane.
Tumblr media
Sue Deeks, Head of BBC Programme Acquisition, says: “Miss Austen is the perfect blend of intriguing mystery, vivid and engaging characters and beguiling period charm – BBC viewers certainly have a treat in store.”
Christine Langan, executive producer, says: “To have this hugely entertaining female-driven story told by such a stellar cast, led by Keeley Hawes, as Bonnie Productions’ first drama is genuinely a dream come true. Gill Hornby has found an ingenious way into the Austen world, creating female characters modern audiences can empathise with and delight in. I’m so honoured to be bringing this wonderful novel to the screen in collaboration with the deeply talented trio of writer, Andrea Gibb, director, Aisling Walsh and producer, Stella Merz.”
Susanne Simpson, MASTERPIECE executive producer, says: “Miss Austen is a beautifully told story about the loves and losses of the Austen sisters. I’m thrilled that this heartfelt, romantic, and funny adaptation is in the hands of a remarkable ensemble cast led by the incredible Keeley Hawes.”
Miss Austen (4x50) is a co-production of Bonnie Productions and MASTERPIECE, in association with the BBC and Federation Stories.
The executive producers are Christine Langan for Bonnie Productions, Susanne Simpson for MASTERPIECE and Polly Williams for Federation Stories. Keeley Hawes, Andrea Gibb and Aisling Walsh are also executive producers.

Thoughts on The Sable Quean
This is definitely the least interesting of the books I've reread. Not the outright worst (Bellmaker) but I still have all these notes.
Once again, there is a new chapter art style I totally forgot about. I like the shading but the eyes are lifeless on the creatures where it's not meant to be. One of the chapter art is an otter and it reminds me of the style of The Great Redwall Feast picture book that came out in 1996.
The names are very interesting this time around. I like them. Tura, Tassy, and Thwissle should probably all be related being squirrels.
We have a second family of hares who don't talk like the stock types or even fit Salamandastron naming conventions. Knowing that the cartographer in 23 was a hare maiden, hares were really shaping up to be more varied than they had been in literal decades in this series.  Ironic that Diggs is the best hare since Florian.
This is also the second recent book (at least off the top of my head) where otters have other roles at Redwall other than warrior , Skipper or fisher or random citizen (Fumbril here and Toran in Loamhedge)
I thought the Flitchaye were tiny squirrels but they're tiny weasles?
As soon as I saw the names of Buckler's brother and sister in law, I realized I had been mistaken the ending of this book for the ending of Eulalia. So I don't remember anything about that book. I've started it again and I remember really liking Maudie, but that's another post.
Is this the first mention of cauliflower?
Does anyone else want to hear The Bellringers Burial?
liars. If I believed ye, I’d finish both of ye right now just t’save any poor beast the misery an’ shame of havin’ the like of you as fathers. Is quite possibly the best drag in any redwall book.
There's more species and social class specific quirks.
The river’ogs are another concept that's rare, but allus welcome. Trajidia is the best.
Chapter 9’s art is the tapestry of Martin. It shows the Late Rose, something I don't remember any other book mentioning, but it's possible I simply missed it. I remember it being a stained glass window but maybe that's a TV thing. I know it's an actual rose on the grounds but it's mentioned rarely after Martin the warrior
This one leans harder into the socialization aspect of fretful females and fighting males than nearly every other book in the series. The only exception is Flib.
though I recall, your voice sounded rather different.” the rest of the scene plays out and confirms; while animals are possessed by Martin, he also changes their voices to his own. Kind of creepy.
I'd rather hear about the adventures of Oakheart and Marjoram as children than the rest of the story.
Forgot that it took 16 books to get a second fighting mole (I consider Arula one) and the first capital Warrior in the series ever.
And 21 books to have a female badger get the prophetic dreams to go to Salamandastron. Also I knew the name Ambrivina but I forgot who had it.
Three animals are killed and it seems to be rushed through by the narrative. Lessens the impact.
This entire concept just has no steam behind it. The children are missing but there's been little to no established outside communities in mossflower in the series so where did these children come from? Are they all orphans?
Some characters are so uninteresting that we’re constantly reminded of their relationship in proximity to the main characters bc they have nothing else. It's very bad regarding Clarinna and Clerun. I will say the scenes with Clarinna and Buckler in the end are very endearing.
Vilaya has a title and a maid but nothing makes her special besides being the third female antagonist and also a sable I guess.

Hey.
So, it’s been a while. I have a lot less energy than I used to and I’ve found that being online is extremely bad for my already struggling brain. I’ve really struggled to keep up any connections I used to have, even though I wanted to and I felt extremely guilty for struggling so much with just talking to people. I feel like I’ve become a completely different person in the past few years. I guess I kind of outgrew Tumblr and I felt like I was a fraud when I couldn’t reach the same levels of energy and enthusiasm to behave like I used to and I felt like I didn’t belong here any more and that I was a disappointment, but I still think about all of my friends on here a lot and I’m really sorry I faded out without any explanation, it was never a deliberate choice, time just did time things and all of a sudden it’s been years and I felt too guilty and ashamed to come back, like I was being kept prisoner by my own skull raisin. I still think about you all and I hope you’re living the wonderful happy lives you all deserve and that the world is being so, so kind and gentle to you. I hope you find new happiness and love every single day. I still love all of you with my whole heart and soul and I’m really, genuinely sorry for leaving like I did, I hope none of you were worried and I hope you didn’t miss me.
A life update is that I’m doing okay, even good. My partner Josh and I are still going strong, we’re planning on getting married in the next few years, and I’ve been flying over to see them regularly (I’ll never stop being grateful that I have this opportunity.) Their apartment is yellow and we adopted a very big plush Bulbasaur son together and we cuddle until we fall asleep every night and their smile and their mind make me reach a level of happiness I genuinely did not think I was capable of and they have helped me find who I really am. Loving them is the easiest and sweetest thing I’ve ever done. I’m planning on moving overseas to be with them after we’re married (paperwork + residency reasons.) Their friends have welcomed me incredibly kindly into their group and their city is a world I want to live in and I feel like I finally know where I belong. I have finally, finally found my home.
Other updates. My pets are getting older and we lost Maudie, I still miss her and I’m scared for the others but I can’t do anything but love them. With my partner’s help I realized that I’m most likely autistic and I’m hoping to get officially diagnosed once I’ve moved, but not before, because a diagnosis could get my residency denied. I have a steady job with very nice coworkers/friends and in general I’m a lot less scared of life and I’m actually excited for the future, even though I still have very hard days, weeks, months. I have a lot more confidence and love in myself. I own a shirt with rubber duckies on it and I adore it with my whole heart. I have two tattoos named Frank and Louisa and I’m hoping to get more soon. I make very good soup. I’ve learnt to draw, I still have a long way to go but it makes me happy and it’s therapeutic and also how does lighting and shading work oh my gOD-
If anyone wants to reach me at any time, for any reason, my Discord is awshucksalright#7140. It’s one of the few sites that I don’t have a mental block with so I’m usually active on there, but I am a different person now so I understand if you don’t have a drive to, there’s no expectation. I just wanted to make a post to give closure if it was needed because just dipping like I did was super shitty and I wish I could take it back but at this point it feels too late and I don’t know if I have the energy to come back again any way. I have been lurking like a weirdo on your blogs to make sure you’re okay, I should’ve just reached out, I don’t know why I didn’t other than my brain not letting me, it felt like a wall and it still does. It was nothing any of you did, it’s just my own brain being a dick and I hate it and I wish I could change it. I don’t want any of you to think that you weren’t/aren’t important to me because you always have been and always will be. Your kindness and friendship has meant the world to me.
I don’t want to say goodbye so I’m not going to, I don’t want to close that door because I love so many of the people through it. I just hope you’re all okay and that life is treating you with all the amazing-ness that you all deserve. I hope you all feel warmly and gently hugged.
I love you. 💖💖💖🐰🐰🐰💕💕💕

To Kill A Mockingbird
“It's a sin to kill a mockingbird,” the venerable Atticus Finch tells his daughter Scout. Miss Maudie repeats it. “Mockingbirds don't do one thing but make music for us to enjoy. They don't eat up people's gardens, don't nest in corncribs, they don't do one thing but sing their hearts out for us.”
I read the book in 1960 as HS senior. My friends and I talked and argued about its meanings. Then the movie version of 1962 with Gregory Peck. And now recently with the Broadway touring play starring Richard Thomas.  All 3 had profound effects on me. I was in the deep south for one year at age 6. It had a profound and lasting effect on a Yankee boy. Why couldn’t I sit in the back of the bus? That’s where we always sat! Then in 1961, stationed in Montgomery Alabama, I saw apartheid in action. I grew up in an integrated neighborhood in a small Mid western town. But the town was segregated. People said I lived on the wrong side of the tracks (literally next to the railroad). I am not saying the north was good for people of color. What I saw in the South blew my mind; Separate water fountains and restrooms; Segregated seating in movie theatres. Worst was the attitude and values of the sweet, polite, Christians who hated people of color. I never wanted to be in the South again. Decades later I see Atticus differently. His daughter and son call him Atticus and are permitted to express any and all of their ideas to him. In the meantime, he tries to get them to honor and appreciate their neighbors and friends in their small town who are the worst bigots you can imagine. He is a man caught between the love and understanding of Southern culture and the unthinkable that they will condemn a man to death because of the color of his skin. I keep learning and marvel at Harper Lee and the screen and drama adaptations. I am glad that much has changed and more needs to be changed. Hate is directed at so many people due to their race, religion, sexual orientation and many other  categories of people. Harper Less reminds us of the senselessness of hate in any form.

so I finally finished to kill a mockingbird for the first time. I picked it up several times throughout my life and I just never actually read it. But this book actually means so much to me. Like I cannot articulate all the ways this book touched me. As a a southern person with a thick accent sometimes, it hurts me when people say they can't read it because it's so over the top southern. Minus all the slurs, that's how we talk and slipping into the words written like that is like coming home. Also, as a person with siblings (I'm the oldest), jem and scout are actually so special to me. Atticus is like a father I wish I had. Dill is a friend I wish I had. Miss Maudie is a strong woman that gives me very much steel magnolias vibes and makes me proud to be a woman (the scene where they hear about Tom and she tells scout and Alexandra to toughen up and act like a lady spoke to me so much). Boo Radley and all of the rumors about him broke my heart. All of the racism and slurs and awfulness and how the system is rigged from the start, but we have to try to make everything better anyway, it's just such a perfect book for me personally and it talks about things everyone should hear. This ramble was so long but I can't tell anyone I actually know about this because they'll either ask me why I hadn't read it before now or they'll say something snarky because I don't think they enjoyed this book tbh as much as I did.

For: @clubwnderland Irene 🌸

Chris may not like Christmas, hell he hates the holidays with a passion. But if there's one tradition he'll stay true to, that is giving gifts the morning of the 25th. While Irene gave all her gifts the day before, the day he agreed to stay over and "celebrate" with her, the wolf had made sure to keep his hidden away, unreachable and safe until the day came.
It's awful waking up Christmas morning to his girl curled up against him, arms wrapped tightly around him as if even in her sleep she knew he's going to leave soon. Don't get him wrong, he loves the feeling of Irene holding on to him for dear life, what he hates is having to leave her embrace.
Does he? Does he really have to leave. Chris tries to recall the last time he woke up in the city for Christmas. Its quite peaceful right now, really, so early in the morning, everyone either sleeping after a long night or still at home opening gifts.
Looking at Irene for a second longer, the wolf carefully unwraps himself from the woman's grip, calling over the dog instead to occupy his spot in bed. He's careful as he dresses up, careful as he places the gifts on the bedside table as always. The book lays flat, "To Kill A Mockingbird", an obvious library stamp on the first page giving away how this is part of his stolen collection. On top, a small wrapped box, a ring neatly placed inside, waiting for her to wake up, another of the many things hes went through the trouble of making from scratch for her. It's a promise at this point, he's coming back, to her. He always does, right? The smallest of notes ties it all up, a quick scribbled "I love you, see you soon."
A single kiss on Irene's forehead, the gifts she gave him neatly placed inside his bag, and then he's gone.

———
Atticus said to Jem one day, “I’d rather you shot at tin cans in the back yard, but I know you’ll go after birds. Shoot all the bluejays you want, if you can hit ‘em, but remember it’s a sin to kill a mockingbird.”
That was the only time I ever heard Atticus say it was a sin to do something, and I asked Miss Maudie about it.
“Your father’s right,” she said. “Mockingbirds don’t do one thing but make music for us to enjoy.
They don’t eat up people’s gardens, don’t nest in corncribs, they don’t do one thing but sing their hearts out for us.
That’s why it’s a sin to kill a mockingbird.”
