Curiously, is there a popular fanon that you don't like in ml fandom? Is there anything that you like?

Most of the fanon I disagree with are fan interpretations of Adrien that I feel misjudge the entire point of Adrien’s character, especially when it comes to shipping stuff. The thing about Adrien is that he is intelligent and he understands people, he’s just too sheltered to utilize those skills in his interpersonal relationships all the time. He’s actually better at dealing with manipulative and kinda nasty people like Lila (as seen in ‘Ladybug’) because he has personal experience with such relationships considering his father and cousin. The parts of the fandom that insist that Adrien is a total social moron for not figuring out Marinette is in love with him ignore that the entire point of Adrien believing when Marinette swears up and down that she isn’t interested in him in any way is that he trusts her. This trust is a good thing.

Adrien knows Marinette is trustworthy, so he will not jump to the conclusion that she’d lie to him. Similarly, whenever Alya obviously pulls something to put him and Marinette together, Adrien can see what she’s doing (examples are ‘Star Train’ and ‘Despair Bear’) but he goes along with it anyway because he trusts that she isn’t up to anything bad. And he’s absolutely correct about Marinette and Alya both. They are both reliable, trustworthy people and they deserve Adrien having faith in them. Insisting that Adrien should mistrust Marinette enough to think she’d lie to his face is actually an insult to Marinette’s personal integrity. So many characters would be able to realize just how much Marinette lies (because of secret identities) if they didn’t make the active choice to take her at face value or let any obvious lies drop with the justification that this is Marinette, she wouldn’t be up to anything bad.

On the other hand, I do like the headcanon that Adrien is into anime and that’s where he gets his romantic notions from. He is very similar to Tamaki from Ouran High School Host Club and Mamoru from Sailor Moon, after all. Watching anime also makes sense as a hobby for someone who’s isolated, in addition to single-player video games. The western anime fandom is kind of a product of the internet, after all, due to the big role digital distribution of fansubs played in many shows getting popular in the 2000s. Because of this the anime fandom still very likely to bootleg shows.

sorry if you’ve moved on from this topic but what blows my mind is that when the show was first airing a lot of people considered the korean or the french dubs to be the more “canon” dubs and the english dub was considered pretty corny when it was airing on nickelodeon. i don’t think i have a point to make just that it’s odd how much the fandom preferences has changed over the years

I knowwwww its so funny how back then EVERYONE was watching the French/Korean dubs and fansubbing episodes and writing fics based off of the French script. That's one thing I enjoy about reading the season 1 era fics -- that a lot of them actually pull from the French dub characterization, which is more rare to come by now. The most interesting thing to me is how a lot of those early fandom fic tropes that came from things in the French dub stuck around to this day in even the most recent fics, despite most fans and the writers themselves only knowing the English dub and not even knowing where those tropes came from in the first place. E.g. Adrien's favorite subject being physics - a lot of fans think it was just people getting carried away with the season 1 English dub line where he said he's good at particle physics, but it's actually because in the French dub version of that line he actually explicitly said "Physics is my favorite subject." Another example is the overused "princess" nickname that people write Chat Noir calling Marinette. I've seen a lot of fans think it was just a fanon invention to go with "my Lady," but it actually originated from him canonically calling her "princess" in Evillustrator. Though the reality is that it's not a special nickname specific to Marinette or anything, it was just for the whole dramatic "knight escorting her to the ball" bit he was doing and he never uses it again after that ep -- he would've said the same thing if she had been any of his other female classmates. One of my irl friends who was also casually in to ML back then when it first came out had also exclusively watched the show in French. Nowadays I find everyone and their mom watches the English dub and French dub fans are far more rare, especially outside of Tumblr. It's crazy to look back and see how this fandom has changed over the years

Depends on your region, but I know at least US netflix has Miraculous ladybug up until halfway through s3, and you can select the french dub/eng subs for most if not all of them.

You can also join the @miraculousubs discord and follow their instructions to get some wonderful true-to-original fansubs!

and if all else fails, you can always try to Youtube “miraculous ladybug [episode name] french dub” .... that sometimes works lol

I have never, in my life, seen a show release schedule that is as much of a mess as Miraculous Ladybug. like, I’m trying to get caught up, but figuring out what episodes of season 3 have been released is a time......... 

i’d prefer to watch it in French (with english subs) but it seems that the French episodes are only just starting to be released according to wikipedia?? and the English ones are released first but I’m not sure where. it sorta sucks the english one are released first, i mean, i know it’s prob because of the English market being stronger or something but it really is just so much better in French imo. I’m only fluent in English mind you so i have to wait for subtitles but, still. 

I’m assuming some French episodes have been leaked, too because watch the fansubs because Canadian netflix doesn’t even have season 2 of ML yet, but the fansubs have some of season 3 listed as “in progress”, so the eps must exist somewhere. 

I definitely appreciate that ML is released in different countries and lots of people get to see it, but... dang... i’m probably just spoiled by living in North America because most of what I watch is from the US or Canada or maybe the UK and I assume stuff gets released in N America first for the most part, but... it’s so hard trying to figure things out and also avoid spoilers at the same time

it’s not that i don’t know where you can find the episodes, but telling me that ‘i can’t find it anywhere and I have searched everywhere!’ really shows how lazy you are because a quick search in Google shows me the episodes.

If you want better quality videos with better quality subtitles, then you have to make the effort to find them because quality things don’t appear out of thin air.

If you watch English dub because you prefer it, it’s fine, but I guess you won’t understand why people appreciate fansub groups. Back before streaming services and official subtitles exist, fansub groups are your lifesavers.

ML is lucky it has an English dub.
