my issue with mercury gundam is that i havent seen a stumpy and fat looking moblie suit there yet theyre all very slick and angular and its giving my gogg body dysmorphia
the dilanzas might be the closest we get this season (at least) but I get you
“Burning souls turned into magical power! The seven shining stars of justice! A believing heart is our magic! Magic Suit Grand Charion! On stage! “
“Grand Charion Big Wheel! Miracle Magical Shining Todnado Punch!”
Time to overthink some more Magical Girl stuff, with a bit of Super Robot flare! We got a really awesome Super Robot transformation sequence in episode 18 of Little Witch Academia, and as a fan of the show and Super Robots in general (and the fact that the hats went over well), I thought I’d try pointing out some references again.
Pic 1 is a very generic pose. Not kidding, I went through about 2 hours of mech anime footage before writing this, and half the transformations end in this pose. Pics 7 and 8 are similar, appearing multiple times in multiple sequences.
Pic 2 could be from Great Might Gaine’s transformation sequence (though mirrored) from The Brave Express Might Gaine (1993), though it could very well be referencing something else, as he’s just pumping his arm.
Pic 3 eludes me, though I know I’ve seen it somewhere.
Pic 4 is the iconic “Drill that pierces the heavens” pose from Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann, and pics 9 and 10 are taken from the titular mech’s “Giga Drill Break” finishing move. By the way, Trigger, the animation company responsible for producing Little Witch Academia, is made up of former employees of Gainax, the animation studio the produced Gurren Lagann. Jab or reference?
Pic 5, to me, is very reminiscent of the head zoom from the narration portion of Genesic GaoGaiGar’s combination sequence from The King of Braves GaoGaiGar Final (2000-2003).
Pic 6 is taken from MagiKing’s post-transformation pose from Mahou Sentai MagiRanger (2005-2006). Best Megazord toy of all times, IMO.
For the lines, “Magic Suit” appears to be a reference to Mobile Suit from the Gundam franchise (1979-2017), “On stage,” while it could mean anything, to me sounds like a reference to Kamen Rider Gaim (2013-2014), and “Miracle Magical” seems to be referencing Mahou Girls Precure (2016-2017), which concluded shortly after this series began.
Today was the first time I met a fan of Mobile Suit Abridged: Gundam Wing
And just the fact that their face lit up a bit when they realized I was a member of Operation Meatier and that I play Zechs was enough to make my day a bit! It was a bit mindblowing to think people get excited over something that I help to create. Brief as it was, still feels a bit surreal.
I'm just sorry that I'm a bit awkward around new people in real life. Cause I really am.
Also, for anyone wondering, we'll be back soon with new content. The next episode of MSAGW and our first Dagonball GT Abridged are both coming out soon (this month if I remember right)!
