I’m thrilled and excited to share my upcoming exhibition, ‘M’Dear: Exploring The Black Maternal’ curated for MoCADA, The Museum of Contemporary African Diasporan Arts @mocada_museum opening this Friday, May 5th at the MoCADA House on Governor’s Island in NYC! The exhibit runs May 5 - Oct. 29 every Friday through Sunday!!!✨

I’m humbled and so grateful for all my amazing Black women artists that trusted me with your exquisite work honoring the power of the great Mother - the Matriarch- the ever present Black maternal principle centered prominently throughout the African diaspora.

Right on time for Mother’s Day to be enjoyed throughout the entire summer or fall!

There’s this concept of suffering central to so many of us as whatever, activists, organizers, anyone trying to change the world… So much of how we get pulled into community and kept In community is a solidarity build around are suffering… Which is not liberatory. That’s just not it. It’s not us. The suffering is not what we’re called to attend to. That’s happening all the time. What does it mean to transcend it and make it so that I can’t settle for? This has nothing to do with me. This doesn’t have anything to do with us. I think about that a lot what does it take to actually shift the feel of organizing? The way we feel our existence? We’re not meant to suffer alone. We’re meant to experience pleasure and togetherness.” - 💜

Looking forward to discussing PLEASURE ACTIVISM - THE POLITICS OF FEELING GOOD by @adriennemareebrown tomorrow at The Free Black Women’s Library, this best selling literary exploration on the methods, impact and importance of conjuring feelings of pleasure in our work and our lives. It’s an honest, loving and accessible inquiry that offers entry through multiple means and perspectives. It’s deep and precious and kind. We’ll be in the @mocada_museum house on Governors island from noon to 5.
