“I hate you.” Tommy doesn’t mean his words even as he holds the Easter basket so she can snap the picture.

Instead, Polly told him he looked like her grandfather and given him an old peaked cap ‘to finish the look’ and now he looked like a 1920s gangster.

“Says the guy dressed as ,fuck, I don’t know, Jay Gatsby in black. I’m supposed to be Elvira, but I couldn’t find a wig.” She says as if he is supposed to know who Elvira is.

“Its not like a month old baby understands, love. You’re not a bad mother, Evie.” Tommy knows that is what hurt her most, having people question if she was worthy of being a mother.

“Tell that to the people on the internet, and those racist fuckers with their newspapers.” She ran her hand through her hair and scoffed.

“Forty-five minutes, why?” Eva liked history, knew a lot of it and could moonlight as a professor if she hadn’t found her calling in being his business partner, social media manager and wife.

“Idea for a tweet, proofread it for me, will you?” he types it out and sent it to his witch of a wife. Tommy had learned the hard way that no one forgets a typo.

Tommy hated social media, but Eva had managed to get him a very carefully curated Twitter and Instagram ---their joint Instagram, but who cares about specifics--- after telling him it would help his campaign three years ago.

Finn somehow managed to drive unnecessary attention to him this way would have consequences.

Especially because now people wanted to know his thoughts on the stupid racist show.

They should be asking him about things like how the Tories are fucking everything up and why does he keep trying not to laugh when asked if he thinks the government is in stable condition.

Eva Smith was a foreign exchange student from Mexico earning her business degree and the luckiest person on the planet it seemed.

Thomas had assumed she was another rich girl here on daddy’s money, and while she was here by her family’s wealth, she wasn’t what he’d thought she was.

Ada had met her antiquing with Freddie months ago and Polly had more than hinted at setting the two of them up for a blind date.

“Congratulations on your new business, Shelby.” She said as she gave him a set of expensive fountain pens with the name of said business.

The leather case had his initials on it, not many knew his middle name was Michael, which surprised him.

Shelby Company Ltd.

Only a handful of people here knew. Couldn’t be Grace at Arthur’s Pub, neither woman liked each other, couldn’t be Ada, and Polly would’ve given him a warning.

“Uncle Jack told me. Said something about helping you get the name trademarked when I had dinner with him and aunt Penny last week. .” She answered with a charming smile. “My family has a tradition of giving a set of pens whenever we join the company or strike out on our own.”

It was a nice gesture, a wholly unexpected one, but still rather nice and sweet of her.

“Thank you, Smith, I look forward to using them.” It didn’t feel enough for him, so he decided on something he knew was on the mind of every one attracted to her. “Would you like to go for a drink sometime?”

Her smile turns shy, but she says yes and that was all that mattered. “Is tonight too soon?”

“No, tonight is perfect.’

“A water park?” his witch asks when he had called her two days ago.

“It’s Finn’s reward for not getting held back this school term.” He had answered.

Not that his little brother had ever been held back, no Shelby had ever been held back a term. A thing their absent father bragged about when he showed up at the pub and heard Tommy had gotten a full scholarship to study business.

This was their fifth date and their first official date as a couple. Tradition merited that he takes her some place where it will be too difficult to fuck.

“That’s really sweet of you, actually.” She was busy, getting some work done so she could have him over tonight. He might as well move in with her, Tommy spends more time at her luxury apartment than he does at home.

“We did forget his birthday, so we thought a day at the water park with his friends was a good enough apology.” He admits because he likes her laugh and hates how she thinks he’s a good person.

“I have no idea; he was already called Cacas when my Tio hired him.” Eva explained, thankful that Cacas doesn’t know a lick of English.

“What did he say?” Tommy asked as Cacas oversaw two employees load their luggage onto the trunk of the car.

“He says you look like Edward from Twilight, but he meant it as compliment, I swear.” She assured her fiancée. “Before you ask, he calls me Lupita because when I was little, I used to dress up like Lupita Jones who was Miss Universe at the time, and it stuck.”
