task 002 --- they want that fame and fortune.
❝what’s up nyc? we’ve got a very special guest with us today at z100. please welcome, rising pop princess, diana alvarez!❞ a radio interview, that’s what her father told her would be best for promoting the ep. honestly she was tired and wanted to curl up in her bed with tons of blankets and binge watch tons of tv shows. she forced a smile. no one could see her except for the producers, her father who was watching behind a window, and the weird interviewer. diana already forgot his name. she believed it was either stanley, steve, or stefan.
❝thank you for having me,❞ diana replied coolly. the interviewer then went on to ask her pretty basic questions. how she was doing, how she liked her ep, if she was planning a promotion tour, if she was seeing anyone, all the questions that she replied with the note cards her father gave her. ‘ i’m fantastic, i love the ep, i will be doing a tour, i’m not seeing anyone. ‘ her own father controlled her like a puppet. he gave her complete creative freedom for the extended play, the first song was about him. actually, it was about a girl and him.
the interviewer brought up alvarez records. diana could tell her father was gripping onto his seat in anticipation. diana was the newest signed artist, some found it unfair that sebastián alvarez signed his own daughter instead of street act. ❝my question for you, diana, is do you consider yourself forever a celebutante? the ep could easily flop and you’ll just be another girl who is famous for being famous--❞
❝you have it all wrong, stephen,❞ diana hissed. the look on his face proved that she had said his name wrong. ❝i was born into the middle class. my father was an assistant to an executive. we had nowhere near the amount of money we have now. i was the one who suggested that he start his own label. even as a six year old, i could tell he was unhappy. the alvarez family looks out for each other.❞ she cleared her throat, taking a sip of her iced tea before continuing on her rant, ❝and by being signed by my dad, he only gave me the stepping stone i needed to make a name for myself. i had total creative freedom over the album. i have freedom over my actions. i made my own brand. i am not a female sebastian alvarez, i’m diana alvarez.❞
lies. it was all lies. but sweet diana would do anything for her father, including lie when she wanted to tell the truth. he controlled her career, gave her strong suggestions when they were clearly orders. but diana and him made a deal, if her album extended play got certified gold, she could have complete control over her own brand. her father would still be one of her managers but the only person in charge of her would be diana alvarez. that’s how it should be, that’s how it should have always been.

MONEYSHQ TASK TWO ― CLAIM TO FAME.
― BRIGHT LIGHTS, piercing screams, and an instrumental invades olivia’s senses. there’s a thin sheet of sweat that coats her evenly tan complexion, a wide grin showing off pearly whites as she takes a bow on the stage in front of twenty thousand concert goers in the o2 arena. it’s the last stop on her corinne tour, which has been completely sold out since the announcement of the tour. olivia hadn’t been expecting that. she hadn’t expected for her career to have sparked off the way that it has -- with two albums and world tours under her belt, olivia feels unstoppable.
the black chevy suburban comes to a halt in front of the studio, and olivia’s attention is no longer on her phone, but she double taps that image anyways. it’s from her last show, during the opening, and she’s coming up onto the stage via the lift that’s under the stage. the lights are dimmed, her statuesque frame is accented by lavender colored lighting. it’s on one of her fanpages, and she knows that the like is going to brighten up their day. olivia pockets the matte black device in the fendi bag that’s at her side as the door is opened by her driver, and the one muted calls of her name is loud and clear.
she steps out of the car, standing tall on thigh high boots that add six inches to her already five foot ten frame. olivia moves slowly through the crowd, hexagon shaped sunglasses perched on top of her head as she signs autographs, poses for selfies, and even holds a baby. there are hundreds of flashes a minute as the does so, both from paparazzi and fans, and before long she’s in the studio, the sound of a shuffling audience finding their seats filling her ears. she stops in her dressing room to take a picture for instagram with the help of her assistant, and also marks the moment on snapchat.
she’d been invited to both perform and be a guest on the late late show, one of her all time biggest dreams. olivia had already fulfilled the task of performing and being featured on saturday night live, which was a gift all in itself. olivia waits patiently behind the curtain, and upon hearing james announce her, she’s walking out. olivia flicks a strand of hair that’s framing her face away, denim jacket methodically draped off of her right shoulder to show off the oversized givenchy shirt that she was wearing as a dress. olivia had previously met james when she was on a segment of carpool karaoke, and it was nice to talk over the memory. olivia settles on the couch while talking to james, their conversation ranging from her recently wrapped tour, her skits on snl, and when her third album would be coming out.
olivia’s nose scrunches slightly at his question about halfway through the interview: how do you deal with people believing your parents bought your way into the industry?
it’s no secret that olivia comes from wealth. mostly everyone that she knows came from wealth. she was swaddled in hermes blankets, slept on egyptian cotton sheets, was driven to school in either a rolls-royce or a bentley, and her closet was worth close to five million dollars when she was only ten years old. her childhood home was and remains as immaculate as they come ( her mother insists on remodeling the home every five years ) and when it came to her vocal and acting training, of course she had the best coaches that money could buy.
so, no. she’s not surprised that people think that way. “but,” she expresses slowly, crossing one leg over the leg. “i got where i am because of my drive and my talent. while yes, i grew up with a silver spoon in my mouth and while yes, i had more opportunities than others, that doesn’t change the fact that i made it because i have been nothing more than my authentic self. i haven’t changed to fit anyone’s narrative, and i haven’t changed in order for people to like me. there’s always been a naysayer in my ear, telling me that i only got to where i am because of who my parents are, but anastasia and pavlos had nothing to do with me now.” she pauses for a moment, adjusting her seating. “i made the forbes thirty under thirty list this past year, and it’s not talking about what my parents have done. it’s about what i have achieved, what i have done for the past few years of my life. people are allowed to believe that all they want, but you don’t reach a net worth of nearly thirty million dollars relying on your parents.”
