O pai dos atores Owen e Luke Wilson morreu aos 75 anos após uma longa luta contra o mal de Alzheimer. Robert Wilson foi um importante executivo de TV nos Estados Unidos. Além dos filhos mais famosos Owen e Luke, ele também deixa o filho mais velho, o diretor Andrew Wilson, e a esposa e fotógrafa, Laura Wilson.

Robert Wilson tinha apenas 26 anos quando passou a ser o produtor executivo do canal de TV público da cidade de Dallas, chamado Kera, no ano de 1967. Ele também ajudou a fundar a emissora de rádio do mesmo canal. A ele é atribuído muito do sucesso do grupo de humor britânico Monty Phyton nos Estados Unidos.

Em 1974 ele foi o primeiro produtor de TV da América do Norte a exibir o programa Monty Phyton’s Flying Circus. Em 1994 ele abriusua própria emissora de TV, onde trabalhou até o surgimento de sua doença.
