Game Night
Morbius x Reader
A/N: This is a suuupppperrr long one-shot lol I will be updating Rescue Me in the coming days. Apologies for the delay!!
Warnings: Some language
“Vamos! ¡Mueve tu culo! (*Let’s go! Move your ass!* I apologize if that’s the wrong translation. I was using google translate)
~~~~~~
“Hey hey hey! Guess what night it is?” Martine said, poking her head around the corner.
“I don’t know, but I bet you’re gonna tell me.” You say, smiling up at her through your eyelashes.
Walking into the doorway of your office, she struck a pose.
“It’s game night!” She said extra cheerfully.
“Yippee.” You waved your arms in nonexistent excitement.
She dropped her arms and gave you that look.
“No matter how many times you look at me like that, the answer is always the same.”
“You can’t just sit here and work. You have to have fun sometimes.”
“This is fun.” You said, gesturing to your work.
She gave a fed up sigh. Walking over to your desk, she grabbed the book you were referencing and the notebook you were writing in. Pointedly stuffing the notebook into the book, Martine slammed it loudly shut.
“Hey!”
“You’re coming.”
She stared at you unwaveringly, eyes widening by the second.
“Vamos! ¡Mueve tu culo!”
“Martine, you know I don’t do well in social situations.”
“Relax. You’ll be fine. Michael and I will be there.”
You jerked your head back. “You got Michael to come? Dr. Michael “Me, Myself and I” Morbius to come to game night?”
She bit her lip and gave you a smirk. “He pushed back at first, of course. Like you…until I told him you were coming.”
“Why would Michael care if I was coming or not? We’re colleagues.”
“Psh girl! You can’t tell me you don’t see the way he looks at you?”
“...Like one colleague looks at another?” You said, completely dismissing what she just told you.
Grabbing your hand, she said, “You’re hopeless! Come on. Let’s go shopping cause you ain’t wearing that!”
Looking up and down your scrubs, you said, “What’s wrong with this?”
She gave you another look. “It’s a game night…not a doctor convention. You know? Fun, drinking, dancing, Spin the Bottle. Fun!”
“Spin the Bottle sounds dangerous…” You said cautiously. “And we’re not teenagers anymore. You know how some of the wards are… I don’t think it’s a good idea.”
She leaned in, looking sincerely into your eyes.
“You had to grow up too fast, didn’t you?”
You didn’t answer her.
“We’re dedicating tonight to stupid teenager fun.”
There was no talking Martine out of something once she had her mind set. She was pushy sometimes, but she meant well.
~~~~~~
“Now that’s what I’m talking about!” Martine gasped with wide eyes as she stepped out of the dressing room in a cute salmon colored crop top and black jeans.
You stood in the mirror, looking at yourself dressed in the short, form fitting, black mini dress.

“I think I’m going to go for the pantsuit.”
“Turn around.” She asked, making a circle motion with her finger.
You did as she asked, feeling uncomfortable.
“Yes, Queen!…You clean up good! Gonna make it hard for me tonight with everyone looking at you!”
“Martine, this isn’t a hookup. I thought this was just a game night? And the wards won’t look twice. All they do is make fun of me for being a bookworm. Do you know what they call me?”
“Mouse?”
“Mouse.”
“Don't you dare change! You look absolutely incredible.”
“Isn't it too much? I’ve always dressed conservatively. This is…” You gestured to your dress. “Overly revealing.”
Taking your hands, Martine said, “Stop overthinking it. You’re getting yourself all worked up over nothing. Besides, maybe this is the chance to get them to think differently of you.”
“I don’t give a damn what they think of me. If anything, I like the way I dress because it makes them think I’m some crazy cat lady or spinster. They don’t exactly give out respectful affection.”
Placing her hands on your shoulders, she tried to make you feel better.
“I’ll be right there. Nothing will happen to you…” She got that devilish look in her eye. “That you don’t want to happen to you.”
“Martine! What kind of girl do you think I am?” You said in surprise, not liking where her thinking was going.
“The kind that’s had a stick up her ass too long and needs to have some fun! You’re like a librarian that’s been at a library for too long. Shhsh! No talking! Quiet! No talking and no fun!” She acted like she was cracking a whip. Cupping her hand around her ear, she said, “What is that? What is that sound? Laughing? Bah!”
Through laughter, you said, “You’re the little latina devil that sits on my shoulder, you know that right?”
She pulled her hands up under her chin and blinked innocently. “Just doing my job!”
“Fine. I’ll keep the dress. But I’m wearing shorts underneath.”
She gave you a look but didn't say anything.
~~~~~~
After you’d finished shopping, you had gone back to your apartment to get ready. Martine helped you with your makeup and hair. When she was done, she stood back and admired her handiwork.
“Excuse me? Have you seen Dr. Y/N? Because all I see is a sexy bitch!”
“Oh, stop. I’m still me.”
“Uh huh. Tell that to the guys who probably won’t even be able to talk because their jaws will be on the floor.”
You looked down, consumed by nervousness again. Martine clicked her tongue and got down to her knees in front of you, grabbing your hands.
“Listen. I know I joke a lot but I’m serious when I say you will be okay. I wouldn’t let anything happen to you. Plus, I think the reception desk ladies will be there, too. ”
“I know and I know you’ll make good on that promise. I just feel so…naked.”
“I know. But honey…you are drop dead gorgeous.”
You hid your face as you blushed and she pulled you into a hug. You hugged her back, careful not to smudge the makeup. When she pulled away, you looked at her.
“You’re one to talk! Look at you! My sexy Latina spitfire.”
She licked her finger, touching her behind and making a sizzling sound. “You know it! It’s about time to go. I say we should wear our regular shoes until we get there and then we can change into our heels.”
“Sounds like a plan.”
“Alright then. Le’ go!”
~~~~~~
“Great. They’ve already started drinking.” You said as you and Martine walked into the research and development building, picking up on the loud noise and cacophony of voices that was carrying down the hall.
Martine squeezed your hand as you inched closer, feeling your palms get sweaty.
“If I’d have known it was in here, I wouldn’t have overdressed.”
“Girl, please. When do we ever get the chance to dress up? Plus, I quite like seeing them drop their jaws and forget how to talk.” She said with a wicked chuckle. “Makes a girl feel empowered and sexy don’t you think?”
You gave her a look, thinking she should already know the answer to that.
Stopping just outside the door to a large lab, she turned to you.
“You are strong. You are fierce. You are a queen. You’ve got this. Ready?”
With a deep breath, you pushed open the doors and walked in right on time with the chorus beat of Darkside by Neoni. It was surreal, like you were walking in slow motion. You caught sight of one of the wards tap one of the other guys on the arm, motioning with his head towards you.
What Martine said was true. With her on your arm, you did feel empowered. As you got closer to them, they were trying to figure out who you were. Someone turned the music down and one of the wards was looking you up and down, rubbing his hands together.
“Who is thi-.” His eyes shot open in realization. “Holy shit… Mouse?!”
Every single head snapped up in that lab. Martine was right… again… their jaws practically hit the floor as they eyed you up and down.
“Spinster Mouse? No way, dude…” He said, biting his fist in his mouth.
Eyeing you up more slowly, he made a “Mm, mm, mm!” sound.
“Hey! Her eyes are up here!” Martine suddenly snapped, pointing to your eyes.
She waited for his eyes to drift up to yours before making an “I’m watching you” gesture. The other wards gathered like sharks waiting for the first sign of an open wound to attack.
“Have you seen Michael?” She asked the ward.
“Ugh, you invited him?! Boring, plain as rice, Michael?”
Martine’s upper lip snarled as she gave a warning glare. Walking you away from them, she whispered,
“I’m so sorry but I have to go check and see what’s keeping Michael. Will you be okay by yourself?”
Your eyes went wide and you shook your head.
“I’ll be 5 minutes.”
“You do see the way they’re looking at me right? Like goddamn sharks waiting for blood.” You sighed heavily, then said, “Fine. But please be quick.”
You watched her walk out of the lab before walking over to a small locker wall to set your bag down. Looking at your heels, you decided to keep your flats on for now. Someone entered your peripheral vision, leaning against the lockers.
“I didn’t know there was so much women under there. If I had known…”
Turning to the ward that had started calling you Mouse with a flat expression on your face, you said, “What would you have done?”
“I’d have taken you home…”
“Are you always this charming?”
“I’d like to think so.”
“Wow…How does it feel to be so ignorant?”
“I’m giving you a compliment.”
“And how is that supposed to make me feel?” You asked.
“Hot.”
I could run circles around you, neanderthal. You do know what that is, don’t you?”
“They were like cavemen or something, right?”
Patting him on the arm, you said, “Good for you. You actually know something.”
He pulled his head back, eyes narrowing.
“You’re insulting me, aren’t you?”
“Does this sad excuse for courting actually work on every woman you approach?”
“Every time.”
“They must not have very high standards. Fortunately, I do.”
As you moved to walk away, his arm came out to block you.
“You’re running your mouth for someone who barely talks. I’m sure I could occupy it in a different way.” He said, extending his arm out to touch your face.
Slapping his hand away, you said, “You really are thick in the head, aren’t you?”
“Thick somewhere else too.”
You made a face like you were about to throw up. Ducking under his arm and walking away from him, you heard him yell,
“You know I could rock your world all night long!”
“Disgusting pig.” You murmured under your breath.
Someone yelling, “Whaaaaat!” drew your attention. It was Janice the receptionist making a beeline for you.
Putting on a bright smile, you said, “Hey Janice!”
She met you in the middle of the lab, absolutely losing her mind over how you were dressed.
“Girl, I thought I’d never live to see the day you were dressed like this! You look amazing!”
“Thanks. It’s drawing some unsavory attention though.” You nodded your head toward the ward that had trapped you against the lockers.
She waved her hand at him. “Chad is a skirt chaser. A woman looks a little bit decent and he’s all over her like a vulture on a carcass.”
“Tell me about it.” You said, rolling your eyes.
She raised her arms and moved her hips to the beat of Thunder by Gabry Ponte that was playing. “I am ready to get my game night on! Been looking forward to this all week! Let’s go get a drink!”
You followed her to the makeshift booze cabinet.
“Why didn’t we just do this at the bar?”
“Screw bars. They’re so expensive. We just bring our own stuff and make a night of it.”
She picked out some Tequila and took 2 shots, holding the shot glass up to you.
“No thanks. I’m good. I’m gonna make a mixed drink. Let’s see…” You said, looking through your options. “Ooh! Someone brought stuff to make Tequila Sunrises!”
“What’s that?”
“Oh Janice, it’s so good! It’s Tequila, grenadine and orange juice.”
“That sounds amazing! Can you make me one?”
“Of course!”
Grabbing two small, thin beakers, you made both of your drinks, marveling at her face at seeing it actually looked like a sunrise.
“It’s almost too pretty to drink!”
“The trick is not to stir it after you add the grenadine so it has those distinct layers.”
Taking a sip, Janice’s face lit up. “I think I just found my new favorite drink!”
“Right?”
You stood around and talked for a little bit, having a few more drinks.
“You still dance?” Janice asked, shuffling to a pop song that was playing.
“Wouldn’t we look weird being the only ones dancing?”
“Who cares? And I’ll take that as a no. Shame. I remember we were good!”
“When do I have time to do choreography, Janice? And I’m not exactly dressed for that.” You said, laughing.
“Hang on. I’ll get one for a warm up!” She yelled over her shoulder as she jogged to the DJ booth.
You stood there, shaking your head, hands on your hips.
“Come on! It’ll be fun! Or do you not have enough alcohol in you yet?” She said as she got back to you. Stopping for a minute to look at you, she popped up her eyebrow and said, “You still wear shorts under your dresses?”
She knew you too well.
“What did you pick?”
“Monster by Lumix.”
“Ooh, a shuffle one! Haven’t done those in a while.”
“Like I said, a warm up!”
As you waited for the beat to start, you went over the moves in your head. Pulling up your dress and holding it behind your back, you and Janice started to jump to the music as it built up. As you moved around, you realized a few people had joined you and were shuffling along.
After the song was over, you both turned around and clapped for those who had danced with you.
“Another! Another!” Someone in the crowd yelled.
We Like to Party by the Vengaboys came over the speakers and the crowd cheered. You looked over at Janice who gave you a big smile. You smiled back, happy that she was here. It had been such a long time since you had danced.
As the crowd clapped, Janice looked pleased with herself.
“See? All everyone needed was some shuffle music. Now this place is jumping! You’d better be ready.” She plastered a devious smile on her face. “The next one isn’t a shuffle dance. I want to see you dance, you sexy bitch!” She said playfully.
“With you, this could mean anything.” You said, anxious to see what song she chose.
Taking the ponytail off your wrist, you tied your dress back just as Jennifer Lopez’s Ain't Your Momma came through the speakers.
“I love this song!” You said excitedly.
“I knew you did!”
With every step, the music filled your bones with vigor, becoming a slave to it. You knew the dance was sexy, but you felt sexy. For the first time in a long time, you enjoyed feeling like that.

Janice gave you a double high five after the song was done.
“Goddamn girl! I would’ve never guessed you had taken a break!”
“I have a good memory.” You said laughing, taking the time to catch your breath.
“You good for one more?” She asked as DJ Snake by Taki Taki started.
“This one will draw some attention.” You stated.
“Didn’t the last one?” Janice said with a chuckle.
You and Janice danced together in perfect sync, garnering more cheering as more people had arrived. You enjoyed feeling lost to the music, knowing that the high would probably come crashing down later tonight.

You both took a bow as you finished the routine. Untying your dress, you smoothed it back down over your workout shorts and went to get a drink. Thankfully, someone had the sense to stock water and not just straight booze.
A hand provocatively moving up your rear end made you stop, Chad’s voice drifting into your ear.
“Goddamn… why would you hide that body underneath all those scrubs? You are so se-ow!”
Chad suddenly yelped. You both whirled to look behind you to see Michael lowering one of his canes back to the floor. Looking from you to Chad, he said,
“That’s not appropriate.”
“What the hell is your problem, man? Don’t know why you were invited anyway!”
“Somewhere out there, a tree is tirelessly producing oxygen for you. I think you owe it an apology. Next time, I break it. Go on.” He said, pointing to the other side of the room.
“Man, forget you.” Chad said, stalking off pissily.
Michael turned back to you and winked.
“Um, excuse me!” Martine balked. “Why did I not know that you could dance like that and Janice could?! I could’ve used a backup partner at the club!”
“It’s not an active thing, Martine. Janice happened to present the idea and I kind of ran with it.”
“Well, it’s nice to see you having fun at the very least since I had to bully you into coming. I’m gonna make a drink. You two stand here like the wallflowers you are.”
Michael inched closer to you as you both watched her walk away.
“So she roped you into this too?”
Sighing, you said, “Yeah. She can be… very persuasive.”
He chuckled. “Tell me about it. She’s like a tick when she’s got her mind set on something.”
“She means well though. Doesn’t want to see us waste away in our offices. Still, it was nice to dance again.”
You saw him look at you out of the corner of your eye.
“You’re very good.”
“Thanks.” You said with a smile, feeling yourself blush.
“Dr. Morbius?” Someone called from the throng of people.
“Excuse me. It seems I am being summoned.”
“Sure.”
You watched Martine walk up, giving you that eyebrow look.
“What?”
She waited until Michael was out of earshot, then turned to you, hands ready to speak with her.
“He. Could. Not. Take. His. Eyes. Off. You.”
“Oh, come off it.” You said, waving a hand in front of your face.
“I’m not kidding, Y/N. That’s probably the first time I’ve seen that man speechless.”
You made a sarcastic, “Yeah, okay” face.
“I’m serious! Why would I make that up? Have I ever lied to you?”
You turned your head to think for a minute and before you could open your mouth, she said,
“Other than the ice cream.”
“I’m still miffed about that, you know.”
“Oh, get over it! I’ll buy you another pint.” She said playfully.
You both looked over at Janice still getting her dance on.
“Where does that woman get all of her energy from?” You marveled.
“I don’t know, but it’s infectious!” Martine said, pulling you onto the dance floor.
“I’m good for now.” You said, trying to plant your feet in the floor.
“Nah ah. You’ve been holding out on me so I’ll take my dues owed right now.”
“Martine, you are impossible. But this is the last one. Told ya I should’ve gone with the pantsuit.”
“Who knew you were actually going to let yourself have fun tonight?”
Fifth Harmony’s Worth It started to play and you smiled.
“Come on, Y/N!” Janice called.
“We need you!” Martine yelled.
Several voices from the crowd joined in.
“Come on, Mouse! Get out there!”
“Go on!”
Figuring you might as well pull out all the stops tonight, you shuffle moonwalked out to Martine and Janice, taking the lead in a triangle formation, laughing at their shocked stares and hearing “Ooh, did you see that?!” from the crowd.
“Yeah, there she is!” Janice yelled.
As your eyes scanned the crowd, you found Michael standing against the wall talking with another colleague. He did a double take and his mouth opened slightly. You popped your hip out along with the song, giving him a wink and a smile before turning your eyes.

As the track ended, you made a sawing motion at your throat to say you were done.
“Oh, come on! The night is still young!” Janice cried.
“Three is enough for me. Maybe later.”
Janice clicked her tongue. “Alright.”
“Whatever happened to this being game night anyway?”
“Hey, whatever happens, happens. I’m just here to go with the flow and have a good time.” She said as she moved her arms in a wave motion.
You saw Michael looking at you again and walked over to join him, picking up another water bottle on the way.
“Hey, Michael. Are you having a good time?”
He looked around at all the people, then back to you.
“It’s not really my cup of tea but it’s fun watching you dance.”
“They have unlimited energy, it seems. I’m good for the night. I’m not as young as I used to be.” You said, laughing.
“Age is just a number. You’re only as old as you feel.”
“Oh, we’re getting the fortune cookie Dr. Morbius tonight.”
He laughed at the joke, biting his lip.
“It would be fun to join you someday.”
The comment went straight to your heart. Putting your hand on his shoulder softly, you said,
“You will, Michael. You will. I know it.”
He put his hand on top of yours.
“That’s very kind.”
“Don’t lose hope. There is a cure out there. It might just come up when you least expect it.”
A very inebriated Chad came stumbling over, laughing like an idiot.
“I bet you wished your junk still worked, huh? Those ladies are hot, hot, hot!” He made a bucking motion with his hips on the word hot.
Sighing, you opened your water bottle and dumped the whole thing on his head, then pointed to one of his buddies who was looking over at the three of you. You pointed at him, then pointed at Chad, and then at the door.
“Is it raining?” Chad slurred.
Grabbing the collar of the friend who came over, you pulled him in close and said, “Get him the fuck out of here before I do something worse than pour water on his head.”
Jerking him back, he actually hurried to get Chad out of there.
“Well, color me shocked. He actually listened. Amazing.”
You turned back to look at Michael, who had an impressed expression on his face.
“What?”
“Remind me to never piss you off.”
“I can’t stand guys like him. Skirt chasers who think they’re the greatest gift to women and look down on men who they deem less than themselves. He’s not going to ruin what actually turned out to be a fun and enjoyable night by being an asshole.”
“I appreciate the sentiment. I could’ve taken him though.”
“Yeah, sure you could’ve...” You joked as you went to take a drink of water. “Right…empty. Thanks, Chad!”
Exasperated, you went over to make yourself another drink, just in time to see Janice finish the rest of a Tequila bottle.
“Hey guys…” She said in a sing-song manner. “Empty bottle..You know what that means!”
A chorus of voices rang in the air. “Spin the Bottle!”
As you turned to head towards the lockers, someone grabbed your hand.
“Nuh uh, you’re coming too!” Martine said.
Groaning, you let her pull you to the middle of the lab where everyone had gathered.
“I haven’t played this since I was a kid!” Someone said excitedly.
“Alright, the rules are simple: we’ll decide who spins the bottle first and go in a clockwise motion. Whomever the bottle lands on, you kiss.” Janice explained.
You groaned quietly, feeling Martine bump your shoulder.
“Relax. At least Chad’s not here.”
Rolling your eyes, you focused on the bottle in the center of the circle.
“Alright, who wants to go first?” Janice asked.
“I will!” One of the other receptionists called out.
“Yeah, Joelene!” Janice cheered.
The bottle landed on a cute male intern. Blushing, they moved towards each other and gave a short peck on the lips before settling back quickly on the edge of the circle.
The game continued, each person getting their turn. Some of the kisses were steamy, complete with clothes starting to come off.
“Alright, alright, alright!” Janice said, breaking the two up. “Get a room.”
You and Michael had exchanged a few glances throughout the game, wondering if the bottle would land on either of you. Oddly enough, it hadn’t.
“Knowing my luck…” You said quietly to yourself.
It was Michael’s turn now. You held your breath as he leaned up to spin the bottle to the best of his ability. He landed on Janice.
“Aww, come here sugar!”
Janice scooted in close to him and he gave her an awkward kiss on the cheek. You couldn’t help but giggle at the look on his face. Martine was dying next to you, laughing at Michael.
“It’s not the plague, Michael.”
He cleared his throat and looked away.
“Come off it. He’s nervous.” You said defensively.
“Why would he be nervous? Unless…” Martine started.
You shot her a quick warning glance. She put her hands up in defense.
“I’m just sayin…”
After Janice, Martine and a few of the other hospital staff took their turns, it was unavoidably your turn.
“It’s your turn, Y/N.” Martine said with a smirk on her face.
“I’m aware, Martine. Thank you.”
Sighing, you got up on your knees and spun the bottle, not taking your eyes off of it. As it started to slow down, your heart started to race. When it finally stopped, you followed the direction the bottle was pointing in… straight up to Michael’s eyes.
“Called it.”
“What?” Michael asked.
“Just a little inside joke.” You said nervously.
“Oh yay!!” Martine laughed and clapped.
Eyeing you, she said, “Come on…we’re waiting.”
All of the stares unnerved you, but knowing you weren’t getting out of this, you moved closer into the circle. Michael looked nervous, looking down at the ground and shaking his head before looking back up to you.
You made a “what are you gonna do” face and leaned into him. Your eyes closed just as Michael’s lips touched yours, bringing a hand up to cradle one side of his face.
You broke the kiss at the same time, eyes still closed. When you opened yours, he was staring right at you breathing unevenly.
“And that’s called progress.” Martine said as she got up with the others and moved to another corner of the lab.
You barely heard it as you and Michael stared at each other. Suddenly, he started to laugh with you joining in.
“Is this what being a teenager felt like?”
“More or less.”
“It’s so nerve wracking when people are staring at you expecting to kiss. But it’s such a silly thing because it’s just a kiss.”
“Oh my gosh, I know, right? Like, you’ve seen people kiss before. It was like this as a teenager too. You say you like a certain boy or girl and the next thing you know, one of your friends is screaming down a hall that you like so and so.” You said, laughing.
You looked down at the floor, inching your hand closer to him.
“I usually don’t give much thought to things like this…love…kissing…romance. It’s not really in the cards for me.”
“That’s bullshit. If you find someone you have a genuine connection with, that you might want to have a relationship with, you should go for it. Time is finite. Hell, any of us could get into a bad accident tomorrow and die. Your condition isn’t an assured time limit, Michael.”
He made a thinking expression on his face, then turned back to you.
“That is a good point, however, I couldn’t live with myself if this condition killed me shortly after meeting an amazing person and then knowing they would have to live without me.”
“It’s better to have loved and lost than never to have loved at all.” You said, smiling at him.
“That’s debatable.” Michael laughed.
Helping him up, you both walked out of the lab and into the hallway.
“I’m probably going to head out soon. It’s getting too late for me.” You said, checking your phone for the time.
“Yeah, same here.” Michael echoed.
“I’m going to go get my purse and say my goodbyes. I’ll walk with you.”
As you went to turn away, you felt his hand grab your hand. Turning back around, you met Michael’s eyes, watching him close the distance between you.
“I was too nervous in there to give you a proper Spin the Bottle kiss with everyone watching. May I?”
You nodded and met him halfway, your lips sealing in a gentle, yet passionate kiss that made your toes curl.
As he pulled away, Michael said with a chuckle “I could get used to that.”
Feeling cheeky, you said, “Play your cards right and you just might.”

I've Got You
Pairing: Morbius x Reader
Plot: You have a sensory processing disorder and have difficulty in loud situations (everyone overtalking each other, too many sounds/noise, someone needing something from you every 5 seconds, etc). You usually do a pretty good job of keeping it under control and to yourself. However, today was a bad day.
A/N: Just a quick idea I thought of tonight from my own experiences with it.
You could feel the panic rising in your chest as you tried to keep your breathing under control. You were used to things being absolutely chaotic in the hospital, but something was different today. It seemed everything that could go wrong was going wrong. Everyone needed things yesterday or right that second. As you walked down the hallway, files were flung into your arms left and right by the resident doctors with an unfriendly, “Now.” and a scowl. Constant calls overhead and pages for doctors brought a strong thumping to your head and a roar in your ears.
You had to fight to hide your disorder because you really needed this job. Sure the hours and pay sucked and you were treated like you were always underfoot, but you did it for the kids. You were going to school for biochemistry and needed to get your foot in the door. Never in your life did you expect it to be something like this. You were hired at Horizon to be a file clerk but it had quickly gone downhill by you becoming the resident doctors’ personal errand runner.
Dr. Morbius was something of an inspiration to you. You wanted to do what he did, always dreaming of working in a hospital with children. As you tried to control the rising panic, you whispered, “Do it for the children.”
Dr. Martine spotted you walking into the children’s ward for blood diseases and clicked her tongue.
“They’ve got you doing it again, haven’t they?”
You gave her a half-hearted smile, walking past her. She joined you, keeping in stride next to you.
“Bastards. You need to tell them no. You’re not their personal errand runner.”
“Martine, I need this job. If that means I’m a doormat for the time being, that’s what I am.”
“I wouldn’t take that.”
You gave her a genuine smile. “I know you wouldn’t. How I wish I could have an ounce of your charisma and spine, Martine.”
“You can.”
You stopped at a desk to drop the files off, sighing as the weight was finally released when Martine suddenly hit a can of pens off the desk.
“Pick those up.”
You hesitated for a moment before bending down to pick them up, eliciting a loud sigh from Martine.
“You’re supposed to say no.”
You knew she was just trying to help you become more assertive, but you felt shame at her disappointment. Her pager beeped and she looked at you apologetically.
“I’m sorry.” She said, squeezing your arm. “We’ll get you there. These residents are like sharks. They think they’re top dog and if they smell blood, they’ll circle. You need to punch them in the gills.” She continued, making a lower punching motion in the air, then turned to hurry off.
You smiled sadly as you watched her jog off before turning to someone in your face asking why they didn’t have a certain file in their office.
~~~~~
Two hours later had gone by and you couldn’t take it anymore. The panic and anxiety had reached its peak and you felt like breaking things and screaming. Sneaking away to a security lit hallway that was shut down for the night, you leaned against the wall, fingers fisted in your hair, trying to breathe evenly and failing. Your heart hurt from hammering so hard in your chest, a thumping in your shoulder from doctors shoulder checking into it half the night.
Clamping your hands over your ears, you tried to shut out all sounds of the world, closing your eyes tightly, chin to your chest.
Hands closing softly over yours made your eyes fly open in an upward motion, jerking your head up slightly and feeling your body stiffen.
You watched lips on a bearded face mouth, “It’s okay. I’ve got you.”
You hated anyone seeing you in this state. In your eyes, it meant that they could see weakness. Weakness didn’t survive in the world, much less a busy hospital. Your eyes moved up the face slowly, eyeing the long, black hair draped around thin shoulders and finally coming up to rest on blue eyes.
‘No no no no no no’ You thought silently, your eyes feeling like the pupils were shrinking.
Your mouth fell open, hands coming down from your ears. Dr. Morbius was standing in front of you. Dr. Michael Morbius, your hero. The whole reason you were putting up with this.
He was looking at you with a kind expression and you couldn’t feel anything but mortification. This was the absolutely last person you wanted to see you having a bad day. His hands came up to cover your ears, just enough to where you couldn’t hear any of the other noise in the background but could still hear his voice.
Unable to control it, you started to hyperventilate.
“Breathe,” You heard him say, watching him take a deep breath and out. “And let it go.”
He made the deep breathing motion a few times before you joined him, keeping your eyes fixed on his. They were something, anything to focus on. He was patient, breathing with you until you started to visibly calm down. He slowly moved his hands from your ears, feeling goosebumps run through your body when he put his hand on your chest to check your heart rate. His eyes closed, brows furrowing as he felt your heart palpitate, head twitching at the gasp you made from the feeling of it.
No wonder all the kids loved him; he knew how to keep calm in stressful situations and keep others around him calm. He actually cared, taking the time to be personal.
“There you go. Just a little bit more.” He said softly, brows still furrowed.
You took a few more deep breaths, leaning your head against the wall when you were finally able to get in a deep, lung filling breath.
“There you go.” He said again.
You lowered your head, taking a few more deep breaths, catching his eyes. He offered a smile and a contented sigh. He looked much calmer himself now, too.
“Better?”
You almost sobbed through a sigh. “Yes. Thank you. Are you?”
His hand was still on your chest. “Your heart rate is just about at normal and the palpitations have stopped, so definitely better!”
He stuck his hand out. “Dr. Michael Morbius at your service.”
You took his hand and shook it.
“I’m Y/N.”
“It’s nice to meet you.”
“You too.” You said shyly.
A voice called from just past the hallway.
“Y/N? Y/N where - there you are!”
Dr. Martine said as she walked quickly to meet you and Dr. Morbius.
“Listen, I - woah… are you okay?”
You smiled, looking to Dr. Morbius, who looked away with a shy smile, and back to her. “I am now.”
“I talked to the hospital administrator. I came back to check on you when I had a free minute and I saw how those doctors treated you. How’s your shoulder?”
You had completely forgotten the throbbing in it with your panic attack. The pain returned with a vengeance.
You rolled your shoulder a little bit, stopping when it hurt, your face contorting in pain. “It’s sore, but I’ll be f-”
She didn’t let you finish.
“Let me see. Come into the light.” She said sternly.
Stepping underneath a security light and pulling your arm slowly from your scrub, you looked back to it.
“It looks worse than it is. I’ve always bruised really easily.”
The words nearly died on your tongue. Dr. Martine’s expression was murderous.
“When you get home, put ice on that.” She said. “I’ve put in a department transfer for you. Starting tomorrow, you will be with me and Dr. Morbius.”
You looked quickly between her and Dr. Morbius.
“Oh, it’s really no big deal. You didn’t have to do that.”
“Yes I did.” She said, pointedly.
Dr. Morbius shuffled over to the two of you.
“Looks like we’ll be seeing more of each other! After all, I hear you’re going for biochemistry.”
You shot Martine a mutinous glance. She shrugged her shoulders.
“We’re happy to have you.” Dr. Morbius said, smiling.
“You sure it won’t be too much trouble?”
“Not at all. If you’re going for that kind of field, being an errand runner won’t get you in the thick of it. I believe in learning by doing. One of the ward clerks can take over your job.”
Just then, a resident doctor walked into the hall yelling for you.
“L/N, where is that file?! I asked you for it over a half hour ago!”
Martine immediately stepped in front of you, getting right in his face.
“Y/N isn't playing fetch for you anymore.”
“Since when?”
“Since now.”
You watched Dr. Morbius turn himself toward the doctor, looking as straight and tall as he could, a challenging look on his face.
They were protecting you. Was this even real?
“Shit.” The resident said harshly then turned away and stalked out of the hallway.
When she turned back to you with a smile on her face, you said, “Remind me to never piss you off.” with a laugh.
“We’ll see you tomorrow bright and early. Have a good night and remember to ice that shoulder.” Turning to Dr. Morbius, she said, “I’ll be waiting for you when you’re ready to go.”
He nodded his head at her. Turning his head to you, he said, “Shall we?”
As you got to the mouth of the hallway, the same resident that came into the hallway walked by, giving you both a deep scowl. After he passed, Dr. Morbius leaned over to you and said, “Want me to go over there and wack him with my crutch?”
You laughed out loud and quickly covered it, laughing into your hand. You looked over to see him laughing with you.
He walked you to your car, making small conversation as you went. After you said goodnight to him and shut your car door, you saw him still standing there. Rolling down your window, he said, “I’m happy that you’re joining the team. I think you’ll be a great fit.”
“Thank you. That means a lot. You’re sure I won’t be under foot.”
He laughed. “No more so than I.”
You laughed softly, looking out of your windshield then back to him.
“Besides…” He started, looking up at the sky before focusing on your eyes again. “I want to keep my eye on you.” He winked at you after he’d finished speaking. Tapping the roof of your car, he said, “Go on. Get out of here. Get some much deserved sleep. We’ll see you in the morning.”
You waited until he was back up on the sidewalk before pulling out and driving off, his words buzzing in your head.
Rescue Me - Chapter 4
Rescue Me - Prologue | Rescue Me - Chapter 1 | Rescue Me - Chapter 2 | Rescue Me - Chapter 3 | Rescue Me - Chapter 5 | Rescue Me - Chapter 6 | Rescue Me - Chapter 7
Pairing: Morbius x Reader
Warnings: Language, assault, hints of sexual assault, violence
A knock on your door two mornings later jolted you from your work. Getting up from your desk, you walked to the door. Peering into the peep hole, you saw two older gentlemen waiting patiently. Leaving your top lock in place, you opened the door with just enough room to fit your face.
“Good morning, gentlemen. Can I help you?”
“Good morning Miss Y/N L/N. My name is Eric Wendel and this is Simon Rockefeller, Nathan’s father.”
You felt your face blanche.
“...Eric Wendel, as in Wendel Towers? The owner of this building?”
“Yes, ma’am. We’re here regarding an assault complaint from Nathan that happened yesterday evening. May we come in?”
“He really wasn’t kidding when he said his father knew the owner…”
Your heart was hammering in your chest. Oh shit…
“Of course.”
Unlocking your door, you let them step inside.
“Can I get either of you anything?”
“No, thank you. We’re fine.”
Pulling up your chair as they sat on the couch, you prepared yourself for the worst to come. You’d cracked the head of a Rockefeller. You were going to get fired, kicked out, maybe thrown in some secret prison never to be heard from again. Mr. Wendel chuckled, seeing your tense state.
“We received a complaint from Nathan Rockefeller that you had hit him in the head with a notebook. We are here to get your side of the story.”
Taking a couple deep breaths, you start to explain.
“I’ve been living here for about 5 months or so. Nathan at first was very polite, but as he got more comfortable with no one calling him out, he began making lewd gestures and nuances. I had a guest over last week that he was making lewd gestures at behind his back involving the two of us. Mind you, this gentleman has difficulty walking. This particular individual is a very well-known, well respected person in the medical industry. Please, understand that I know this sounds like kindergarten silliness, but he’s been…uncouth… with the other staff as well.”
“We are aware of the multiple sexual harrasment complaints against him and have taken statements from the other female staff as well. We’ve discovered HR has been hiding these claims from myself as a result of a cut deal they had with each other.” Mr. Wendel remarked.
You felt sick.
“Well, that explains why he was still employed.” You said, looking around the room.
“You were the last piece of the puzzle. You’ve been the first to take your own action against him. Please, continue.” Mr. Rockefeller prompted.
“That evening, he asked me if I was free later while looking up and down my figure with the most, how can I describe it? Predatory look in his eyes. It was very unnerving.”
You looked to see both of them “hmm”ing into their hands.
“When he called my guest a cripple, I saw red. So I spoke to him in a language he could understand by acting like I was interested in him. To which he also behaved disrespectfully and said, ‘I knew you wanted me.’ Knowing exactly how he would behave, I got him close enough so I could crack him upside the head.”
The gentlemen were silent a moment then asked, “Is there anything else? Any other behavior you’ve noticed?”
“There is one more thing. One multiple occasions, when one of our cleaning staff would be bent over picking up something, he would walk over and act like he was having sex with her. Grabbing hips and bucking into her hips if she was faced away or right into her face if she was facing him.”
“We thank you for your time this morning, Miss Y/N. This may not be fatherly of me, but I have to applaud you. Nathan has been a difficult young adult with his antics. Thank you for stepping up and confronting him on his actions. With that, we would like to ask that you not press charges. We’ll take care of it.”
Your jaw dropped. “You mean, you’re not going to throw me into some secret prison?”
He laughed.
“Of course not. You may have struck a Rockefeller, but that certain Rockefeller has made it hell for us trying to make sure his wrong doings don’t get into the public eye.”
“I hadn’t planned on pressing charges, sir. I was hoping the crack was enough to reset the server, but apparently not because you fine gentlemen are here.” You said, nervously.
“Oh behalf of myself and my son, we sincerely apologize to you for having to deal with his behavior.”
“With all due respect sir, I appreciate your apology. However, the apology from him doesn’t mean much unless it comes from him directly.”
He nodded at you respectfully. “You are quite right. I have made arrangements with Mr. Wendel here to have your rent paid in full for life.”
You knew what this was. It was to keep you quiet. You hadn’t intended to say anything anyway. The faster you were off of their radar, the better.
“That was very thoughtful of you. Thank you so much.”
Turning to Mr. Wendel, Mr. Rockefeller said, “I think we have everything we need. Do you have anything else to add?”
Mr. Wendel turned to you. “I think it’s pretty open and shut. All of the statements reflect almost identical information, save for Miss Y/N’s case here.”
He handed you his card. “Call me if you have any further problems.”
You got up with them to walk them to the door, opening it for them.
“Have a nice day, gentlemen and take care.”
“Thank you for your time. Take care as well.”
Shutting the door, you let out a huge breath and fanned yourself. That was so nerve wracking! Two of the most powerful patriarchs of New York City sitting in your apartment had a killer way of making a girl feel so small. You hoped all of it was over but it felt like you were waiting for the other shoe to drop.
~~~~~~
At 3pm that afternoon, there was another knock on the door. You walked excitedly to the door and laughed when you opened it as Maggie barreled through, running around your apartment.
“Someone’s excited!” You said.
Beth walked in carrying a 20lb bag of dog food, a bag of toys, treats and bowls.
“Hey! Are you excited?”
“So excited!”
Dropping the food and toys against your breakfast island, Beth shook her arms.
“I hope that’s enough food for her.”
“20lbs should be enough I would imagine.” You said, laughing. “But if I end up running out, I can go get her some.”
“Thank you so much for doing this! She’s trained and housebroken so she shouldn’t have any accidents in your house. She’s a former K-9 also so she should provide good protection should you need it. She knows all kinds of tricks too!”
“Of course! That is good to know! So, where are you headed to?”
She looked excited and clapped her hands.
“Sonoma Valley!”
“Ooooo! Wine country! Bring me back a bottle if you think about it.”
“Totally! Alright, Maggie! I gotta go! I don’t want to miss my flight!”
Maggie ran over and kissed Beth.
“You be a good girl! Don’t cause any trouble for Y/N!”
“I’m sure she’ll be perfect.”
“Here’s my phone number in case anything happens.” Beth said, handing you a piece of paper.
“Thanks. Listen, you have a great time and soak in the sun and countryside.”
“Oh I definitely will.”
Beth hugged you and pet Maggie one last time before she turned to leave. Maggie followed her to the door, whining. Getting down to her level, you pet her and said softly,
“It’s okay. Momma will be back. She’s going on vacation. Besides, we’re going to have lots of fun, right?”
Maggie laid down at the door, looking up at the handle with puppy dog eyes.
“Aww, poor thing.” You said, deciding for the moment to let her be while you finished your work.
~~~~~~
Later that night, you and Maggie were sitting on the balcony together watching TikToks and eating popcorn, enjoying a warm spring night. Looking over to check the time, you realized how late it was.
“12:30am already? It’s time for bed, Maggie.”
Maggie looked up at you, wagging her tail. Turning your phone off and sliding it into your back pocket, you walked through your mostly dark apartment into your kitchen to get a glass of water, Maggie in tow. You topped up her water bowl and gave her a treat. Walking back through your living room, you stopped at seeing and hearing the door handle jiggle. Maggie turned at the noise and stepped between your legs, growling. You gently touched Maggie behind the ears and whispered, “Shh.”
Grabbing a letter opener from your mail shelf by the door, you held it out in front of you, holding your breath. As the door opened and a black figure slunk in, you and Maggie worked together to walk behind the intruder, careful not to surprise them. Something shined in his hand, reflecting the light from the stove light in your kitchen.
‘He has a knife’
As the intruder turned, you dropped the letter opener and knocked the knife from a gloved hand as they lunged at you, sliding your leg behind his knee to move it out of place to get him to the ground… right underneath Maggie’s now growling, snarling snout. You held his arm at an unnatural angle as the intruder cried out.
“Ow! Ow! Get off me!”
You twisted his shoulder again for good measure, realizing you knew that voice.
“Nathan?!”
“You got me fired, you bitch!”
“So, what? You were coming in here to kill me?!”
He laughed darkly. “After I’d abused that body of yours.”
As he tried to sit up, you folded four fingers in on your hand and punched him in the throat.
He coughed and ground out, “You bitch…”
“You sick fuck!” You yelled as you grabbed your phone out of your pocket.
You punched in 911, but thought better of it and dialed Mr. Wendel’s number instead.
“Hello?” Came the groggy voice.
You were breathing hard.
“Mr. Wendel,” you started, swallowing harshly. “Nathan broke into my apartment. He’s here right now. I was going to call 911 but thought instead to call you.”
He was silent for a moment, then said, “I’ll be right there.”
Nathan came up from behind you, closing his arms around yours. Dropping your phone, you threw your head back and headbutted him.
“Maggie, go!” You shouted, watching her run to the bedroom. You were more concerned about her being possibly put down if she bit him, even if it was in defense of a violent intruder.
He staggered back, holding his now bleeding nose.
“Fuck, you broke my nose!”
He looked to the floor, seeing the knife. Picking it up, he ran at you in full fury, slashing the knife. You did your best to dodge it, the knife coming a bit too close for comfort a couple of times. He finally slipped up and you were able to kick him square in the chest, sending him to the floor. Seizing the chance while he was down, you strode over and punched him in the face. Then again and again and again, getting down onto your knees.
You raised your arm back for one final punch when a strong hand grabbed you by the wrist. Snapping your head back, you froze.
“Michael?”
Maggie came out of the room, growling. Turning to her, you held your hand up.
“Stay. Good girl.”
Turning your head back to Michael, you saw his features start to change back as he softly ran his hand up your arm to encompass your fist.
Nathan struggled to sit up, coughing and bleeding. When he saw the figure behind you, he spat,
“Who the fuck are you?”
You watched Michael’s features change back immediately as he stared at Nathan, baring his teeth, eyes going white.
Suddenly, Michael was gone. You turned, watching the black and purple trail go out through the open balcony door. Your apartment door swung open, a special ops team of 6 flooding in. Maggie ran over to you, standing in front.
“Hey, easy. It’s okay, baby. Stand down.”
One of the ops guys looked at her nervously.
“You know what they say: you can take the dog out of the police, but you can’t take the police out of the dog. She won’t hurt you.”
Mr. Wendel and Mr. Rockefeller stood in the doorway looking down at Nathan.
“Dad, did you see what she did to me?! And and..that…that Morbius dude was here! Right in this room!”
The two older gentlemen looked at you.
“I may… have hit him in the head just a tad too hard. Concussions cause hallucinations sometimes.”
Mr. Rockefeller crossed his arms across his chest as the one of the special ops picked Nathan up off the floor, a look of utter disgust turning his face. Shifting as his son passed him, Mr. Rockefeller’s hand snatched out and grabbed Nathan by the back of his throat, leaning in close to his ear. You couldn’t hear what he was saying, but it was very tense by the looks of it.
One of the special ops team helped you up off the floor as someone else came over to make sure you weren’t seriously injured.
Mr. Wendel walked up, hands behind his back. “Will we ever have a quiet week with you?” He said, laughing.
You laughed. “I certainly fucking hope so.”
Mr. Wendel stared at you.
“There’s certainly more of you that meets the eye.”
“You don’t move to New York City without knowing how to defend yourself. Especially as a woman.”
“You’ll be getting your $3,000 back from the apartment damage. For your trouble.” He said.
“Is this another bribe to keep me quiet? I’m not stupid you know.”
He made the motion of “a little bit” with his fingers.
“This little problem will be dealt with here and now.”
“It better be.” You said, giving him a look.
“I will be. You have my word. Goodnight, Miss Y/N.”
“Goodnight.”
You tried to keep it together as best you could, but you started to cry. He’d really broken into your apartment to kill you! All over losing his job for being a disgusting dick.
“Eat a dick, you prick.” You said, sniffling to the empty room. Your fists were throbbing and your head ached from headbutting Nathan.
“Ow…” You moaned as you walked into the kitchen to get some ice and a glass of liquor.
Maggie followed you, whining.
“It’s okay, Maggie. It’s over.” You breathed.
You downed a couple shots of whiskey before getting a pan full of ice, wincing as you put your hands into it.
After standing for a few minutes, you felt your legs getting shaky.
“Oh, I need to sit down.” You say.
Walking to your couch, something catches your attention out of the corner of your eye. You turn to the balcony window and see a shrouded figure hanging upside down on the tree. He came down almost instantly, a curtain of black and purple encompassing him before he stood in front of you.
He was Dr. Michael Morbius again, checking you frantically everywhere.
“Michael, I’m fine.”
When he got to your hands and saw the blood, his vampiric features flooded his face again.
“Get out.” You said, quietly.
He snapped his head up at you.
“Get out. I’m not in the mood to deal with that right now, too. Matter of fact, maybe never.” You added.
He did as you wished silently. After he’d gone, you felt guilt set in. He had saved you from potentially killing Nathan tonight. You didn’t have the energy to try to fend him off if he tried to attack you again.
Flopping down on the couch with Maggie jumping up and laying her head on your lap, you passed out quickly.
Christina Perri - A Thousand Years - Part 2 Lyrics | AZLyrics.com
***Morbius POV***
I watched you as you walked out to your balcony, scanning the skyline looking for me, your hair shining in the setting sun. You looked to be fighting with yourself, closing your hand over your mouth out of embarrassment at whatever you had just thought of.
“Come on, you can do it.” I said quietly, as if my words would carry on the breeze to you.
Your heart was racing as you paced your balcony at war with yourself, Maggie cocking her head at you from the doorway. Waiting for the cover of early darkness, I flew to the next building as soon as it was safe. As I got closer, you groaned loudly and said, “Ugh! Why is this so hard?! It’s not like he hasn’t heard me sing before!”
Ah, but my dear siren, you thought I was asleep last time. This time you have a captive audience who is hanging onto every word…
***Your POV***
You were aggravated with yourself, wondering why you were having such a difficult time with singing on your balcony. You used to do it all the time!
Yeah, when no one was listening… You thought, annoyed. He was out there somewhere. Somewhere close enough where he was no doubt tuned in to you, but far enough away where you couldn’t see him.
“Make it big one day, my ass. I can’t even work up the gall to sing for you!” You seethed to yourself.
‘The only way out is through, Y/N.”
You remembered your boss had told you when you were faced with a particularly difficult editing assignment.
‘It’s hard though. What if I make a huge mistake?’
‘Nothing worth doing is easy, Y/N. You have to take that fear and stuff it away. Powering through our fears and coming out on top is what makes us who we are. You’re not the type of person to sit back and accept failure or what if.
“Goddamnit, Greg. Why do you always have to be right?” You whined, hands covering your face. “Okay. Fine.”
Taking a couple of deep breaths to try and calm down, you closed your eyes and started to sing the first song that popped into your head.
The day we met
Frozen I held my breath
Right from the start
I knew that I'd found a home for my heart
...beats fast
Colors and promises
How to be brave?
How can I love when I'm afraid to fall?
But watching you stand alone
All of my doubt suddenly goes away somehow
Feeling an unnatural wind blow through your hair, you held your arms out with your palms up.
You heard his voice before you felt his fingers softly slide down your hand into your palm as his voice joined with yours.
One step closer
You felt goosebumps all throughout your body at hearing him harmonize with you. Smiling, you continued the next verse on your own.
I have died everyday waiting for you
Darling don't be afraid I have loved you
For a thousand years
I'll love you for a thousand more
As Michael started to sing, you fought to choke back a sob.
Time stands still
Beauty in all she is
I will be brave
I will not let anything take away
What's standing in front of me
Every breath
Every hour has come to this
You opened your eyes to find him smiling at you, the wind dancing through the curls at the ends of his dark hair. He folded his fingers into yours as he curled your wrists up so your arms were touching his as you sang the chorus together, stepping closer to you.
One step closer
I have died every day waiting for you
Darling, don't be afraid. I have loved you for a thousand years
I'll love you for a thousand more…
And all along I believed I would find you
Time has brought your heart to me
I have loved you for a thousand years
I'll love you for a thousand more
As you and Michael sang the backing vocals part of the song, you were forehead to forehead, heads down as you sang with him still holding your hands. You closed your eyes again to just listen to the two of you singing.
I'll love you for a thousand more
One step closer
You began the next verse with tears in your eyes
I have died everyday waiting for you
Darling don't be afraid I have loved you
For a thousand years
I'll love you for a thousand more
Michael let go of your hands to lift your head and cradle your face. As he thumbed away the tears in your eyes, you brought one of your hands up to cover his, leaning into his touch. You’d had so many dreams of this that you couldn’t believe it was really happening.
And all along I believed I would find you
Time has brought your heart to me
I have loved you for a thousand years
I'll love you for a thousand more
After you’d finished the duet, you both stood there motionless and silent, looking between his eyes rapidly as he held your face. In one swift motion, you’re not sure who initiated, you were in his arms. He brought one of his hands up to cradle the back of your head as you buried your face in his chest.
It felt like you stood there for an eternity before Michael said, “Consider me entranced, Siren.”
You laughed and started to cry as you let the emotions wash over you, hugging him tighter.
Rescue Me - Chapter 3
Rescue Me - Prologue | Rescue Me - Chapter 1 | Rescue Me - Chapter 2 | Rescue Me - Chapter 4 | Rescue Me - Chapter 5 | Rescue Me - Chapter 6 | Rescue Me - Chapter 7
Pairing: Morbius x Reader
F/D - Favorite drink
Y/N - Your name
F/S - Favorite scent
F/C - Favorite color
Warnings: Language
Walking down the sidewalk coming home from work, you stopped at a newsstand.
“Hey, Frank. How’s it going?”
“Hey Y/N! Haven’t seen you in a couple days. I don’t have any new books yet. I did get some new note and sketchbooks in though.”
“That’s okay. I have a to-be-read pile a mile high in my apartment.” You said, chuckling. Browsing the newspaper, you spot one with Michael’s face on the front page. Picking it up, the headline read Dr. Michael Morbius Apprehended in the Vampire Murders
You swallow the sudden lump in your throat.
“Glad they finally caught him. Guy looks like a freak.”
You snapped your head up, an angry expression on your face about to give him an earful, then thought better of it. You liked Frank. He was one of the few people you felt safe talking to. Plus, you didn’t want him to think you were in league with a murderer.
“As if the streets of New York were any safer before he came along.” You opted instead as you read the article. Looking up at Frank, you say, “How many times have you been robbed this week, Frank?”
He looked surprised, then bowed his head. You decided to buy two of the notebooks and a sketchbook. As you handed him the money, you said,
“Keep this somewhere safe. I’d hate to see my favorite newsstand vendor go out of business because of city riffraff.”
He smiled in a fatherly way, taking the money from you.
“Thank you, Y/N. Appreciate ya.”
~~~~~~
“Hey, where’s that cripple that was with you the other night? Did you scare him away, too?” The desk clerk looked up and down your body lewdly, biting his lip. Sucking in a breath, he said, “Nah, you’re probably into that vampire psycho running around town. Oh, wait, they arrested him.” He made a sad face, using his finger to drag a tear down his cheek.
Your jaw clenched in anger, your hands balling into fists. Taking a deep breath, you began to laugh loudly and turned to him.
“Oh my god, you’re so funny.”
Putting your hand under your chin, you cocked your head at him. “How are you still single?”
“I know, right? I’m hilarious.” He looked you up and down again, causing you to repress a shiver. “You free later?”
Putting on a sultry face, you placed your tongue to the roof of your slightly open mouth and reached out to grab his tie, pulling him towards you. He licked his lip, smiling big. You smiled back at him, leaning into his lips.
“I knew you wanted me.” He purred.
Reaching into your bag, you grabbed one of the notebooks and cracked him upside the head with it. He looked surprised and yanked himself back.
“What the fuck?! Bitch!”
You winked as you put the notebook back in the bag, walking towards the elevator.
“Do you really want to fuck around and find out anymore? Take this as a lesson. Stop being a creep.”
A cleaning lady was walking by who had seen the whole thing. She held up her hand and you high fived it as you got to her.
“I could have you thrown out of here, you know!”
“Oh yeah? On what grounds? Putting a sleaze in his place?”
“My father knows the owner!”
“Curious. Does your father know about all of the sexual harrasment complaints?”
He jerked his head back, then snarled
“Watch your back, bitch.”
Getting into the elevator, you started to shake a little bit as the anger wore off. Then you started to worry. What if he made good on his words and retaliated? Almost to your apartment, you were lost in your thoughts when you distantly heard a voice yell,
“Shit, no! Maggie, come here! Bad dog!”
Just as a furry missile knocked you off your feet.
~~~~~~
A German Shepherd was licking you senseless in the face. Trying to sit up, Maggie jumped all over you.
“Ugh, Maggie. You licked me in the mouth.” You said, laughing as you wiped your mouth. She continued to lick you until she saw her owner run up, then hid behind you.
“Oh my God, I’m so sorry! Maggie, come. Bad girl. You can’t be doing that!”
You looked back at Maggie cowering behind you, then to her owner. “It’s okay, Beth. She just missed me is all.”
“She made a beeline right for you as soon as she saw you. You’re the first person I’ve seen that she gets that excited to see.”
You cupped her face in your hand and squished her jowls. Maggie licked you again.
“Who’s my baby girl? You are! Yes you are!” You said, baby talking her.
“So, hey. I have a question for you.” Beth said shyly.
Finally able to get up, you walked the rest of the way to your apartment, unlocking it.
“Come on in! We can talk in here.”
Maggie ran into your apartment, jumping onto your couch as you and Beth walked in.
“Make yourself at home, Maggie!” You said sarcastically.
“Maggie, down! Off the couch.”
“Beth, she’s fine. Relax.” You said with a smile.
“She knows better.”
“Coffee?” You asked.
“I’d love some!” Beth said enthusiastically.
After you made the coffee, you and Beth sat down on your couch, watching her smell it and sigh with content.
“So, what did you want to ask me?” You prompt.
“I hope this isn’t weird and we don’t know each other super well, but I was hoping to ask if you wouldn’t mind watching Maggie for a few days to a week? I’m going away with my family and I’m worried about taking her on a plane.
“Hmm… let’s ask Maggie.”
Turning to the dog, you say, “What do you think, Maggie? Would you want to stay here for a little bit?”
Her ears perked up, her head cocking to the side before she leapt on you and kissed you.
“I’ll take that as a yes!”
“Thank you so much. I really appreciate it. I’ll pay you, of course.”
“I’d watch her for free anytime, Beth. You don’t need to pay me. When are you leaving?”
“The day after tomorrow. I’ll bring enough food for her and all of her toys.”
Maggie turned to the balcony window, suddenly growling with her teeth bared.
“Maggie, what is it?” Beth asked, looking around.
Your heart skipped a beat, worried.
She looked to you as you held a wide eyed stare.
“Y/N? Are you alright?”
Blinking rapidly a few times, you turned your gaze back to her.
“Yeah. I may or may not have cracked a notebook against the desk clerk’s head today when he was being creepy. He told me to watch my back. I’m hoping it was just a heat of the moment threat, but he kind looks like the type to end up on a sex offender’s list.”
Beth visibly shivered and acted like she was going to throw up.
“Oh my God, I know right? I don’t know how he’s even still working here.”
Truth be told, you were partially worried about the desk clerk and more worried about the direction Maggie had turned. You had just read in the paper that he was arrested. Why would she be looking out the balcony window and growling? Maggie turned back to you then, her sweet, panting face a relief. She whined softly and put her head on your lap, looking up at you with puppy dog eyes.
“You know it’s weird. She did that the other night too. Didn’t you have a break-in or something?”
Hiding your face in your hands, you said, “Oh my God, you heard about that?”
“I think the whole hotel did.”
“Great.” You said, dragging your fingers down your face, embarrassed.
“We saw all the cop cars out front and a couple FBI agents. Why would they be here?”
“They’re just on edge with the whole Michael Morbius vampire murder nonsense. Being extra careful I guess. It wasn’t a break-in. I broke my balcony window trying to kill a rat. $3000 down the drain.”
She started to laugh hysterically. When she calmed down, she turned dreamy eyes to you, head leaning against her hands.
“Dr. Michael Morbius. He’s a whole lot of yummy, huh? He has the prettiest eyes.”
You looked down and smiled softly. “He does and he’s wicked smart too.”
“Y/N’s got a crush. Y/N’s got a crush.” Beth singsonged.
“Shut up, I do not.” You said laughing, throwing a pillow at her face.
“Welp, me and Maggie best be off.” Beth said, standing up. “We’ll be over around 2 or 3 in a couple days to drop everything off. I really appreciate you watching her. Will you be home then?
“Of course! Anytime! Yes I will be here. My job is allowing me to go remote, thank goodness.” Turning to Maggie, you said, “Bye, Maggie. I’ll see you soon!”
Maggie licked you in the face a few times before turning to leave with Beth. After they had gone, you stared off into your apartment, rubbing your fingers on your thumb before jumping up to check the balcony area.
You didn’t see anything at first then caught sight of something on the handle. Opening the door slowly, you saw a f/c paper crane. Your eyes widened as you scanned the skyline, wondering if he was still hanging around.
“Here… he was here…” You said softly, picking up the crane.
Taking one last look at the skyline, you closed the door and shut the curtains.
