The music wasn't fitting for a funeral. Too quick, too light, too happy.

Then, of course, this wasn't a funeral, Jessamy reminded him. This was a wedding.

Your wedding.

A wedding he wasn't invited to.

Morpheus stood next to an old oak, hiding in its shadows on this beautiful warm summer day. He watched from afar as you slowly walked down the aisle, stepping on white rose petals. Their scent lingered in the air, mixing with lavender and jasmine. It gave him a headache.

"The flowers match your dress", he heard Jessamy say more to herself than to him.

She was right. They did and oh, you looked so beautiful in it. Of course you did - although Morpheus had always preferred the soft and dark fabrics you wore to his kingdom at night over the heavy and harsh colours you owned in the mortal realm. He liked to think that you did too.

You were almost there, had almost reached him. Your husband. The man whose eyes gazed over your body. Morpheus wanted to knock the smug smile right off his face. He didn't deserve you. Morpheus wasn't sure if he himself deserved you but that mortal cockroach sure as hell didn't. He wasn't good for you. Didn't appreciate you, your soul, your mind.

"We never stood a chance." You had whispered last night in Morpheus chambers. His sheets were lazily draped over your body, your legs entangled with his, and your head rested on his chest.

"You don't have to do it." He had replied.

"Oh, but I do. My family ... Besides, you and me, we weren't meant to last. You told me so yourself, remember?"

He remembered - and he wished he had never said it. Maybe if he didn't utter these words into the universe, they wouldn't have become true. Maybe.

You reach for your husbands hand and just as he grabbed it and trapped you, Morpheus turned away.

"We should go before the ceremony begins."

I've only read 4 chapters of Ineffable and I must say I loved the reader with Corinthian a lot. It's a Morpheusxreader fic but maybe it could end as Corinthianxreader. I would love that. I respect your decision ofc. Have a lovely day!!!!

I would like to see some of the sandman fics here in ao3, don't get me wrong if you find it more comfortable tumblr is fine but if you have the possibility of uploading it to ao3 you would gain many readings Personally I find it easier to follow the updates of the stories in ao3 than in tumblr
