For some reason, The Banana Splits happen to have what amounts to cult status between Land’s End and John O’Groats, what with many ‘60′s British pop fans equating them to the “Mod/Rocker” crowd of the times ... when many of the better popdisks were likely heard evenings on Radio Luxembourg, let alone the newly-minted BBC Radio 1.

Now if you can just imagine the quartet of Bingo, Drooper, Fleegle and Snorky riding one of those trams in Blackpool ... or standing on the station platform at Llanfairpwllgwyngogerychwyrndrobwllllantysiliogogogoch ... or playing bingo at Southend Pier, unaware that the British version is much different than the American model ... or antiquing The Lanes in Brighton ... I assume you Brits get the notion.

So, Imma review a few of the movies I habe watched and finished recently

Spoilers for Luca and Soul

Batman: Year One - Was only an hour long and felt too short, I was left expecting more content wise. Everything else though? Phenomenal. I loved whem Gordon cheated on his wife and five seconds later he's feeling like shit about it, and then he tells her and apologizing after a meeting with Bruce Wayne and she accepts his apology. Bruce being shown as a human instead of this armored badass was amazing.

Coco - What can I say other than this being my favorite Disney movie? The whole mexican theme kept me interested, De La Cruz being the twist villain was pretty easy to expect though. The music was what really hit me. When Miguel sang "Remember Me" to Grandma Coco I kid you not I was sobbing for a good 10 minutes. And the ending rendition of the same song was really good, and I have it saved in one of my Spotify playlists. Definetly a must-see movie for anyone.

Soul - Joe Gardner, probably one of the best protagonists of any Disney movie. Instead of being in a VERY unrealistic world, we see a failing musician who can't seem to land a gig going through his routine when he dies. Soul raised the bar very high in terms of Pixar's story telling capabilities as they took something like Jazz and turned it into an entire story.

Luca - The newest of these movies (I think) and probably the most underwhelming. The story follows Luca, a sea monster who wants to explore the surface. So he does and meets Alberto, a sea monster who's lived on land for a good year or so. The two venture off to a nearby town to get motoscooter and meat Gulia (pronounced Julia) and a douchebag who's name I don't remember. Alberto get's jealous that Luca wants to go to school with Julia yada yada yada, Luca get's to go to school and happy ending. In terms of animation, this movie misses the mark with it's human characters. The story is pretty basic over all, and the characters were pretty boring.

Cosa abbiamo seppellito quest'estate

di Alessandro Giglioli C'è un filo che collega tre episodi di questa estate. Il primo episodio è la storia della polizia che minaccia un cronista, "so dove abiti", con il ministro dell'Interno che poco dopo dà del pedofilo al cronista stesso. La colpa del cronista: aver fatto il suo lavoro, documentando un piccolo episodio di malcostume familista del ministro.. Nulla di così grave, il giro in motoscooter fatto fare al figlio, per quanto non encomiabile; molto di grave, invece, nelle successive minacce della polizia e negli insulti del ministro al videomaker. In sostanza, con quelle minacce e quegli insulti si è buttato a mare il principio (già consolidato) per cui compito della stampa è controllare i comportamenti del potere e il potere deve accettare (per quanto suo malgrado) questo controllo, perché sono queste le regole del gioco. Un principio base della democrazia, di regole del gioco appunto. Sbeffeggiando e insultando il cronista, il ministro ci ha fatto sapere che questo gioco, con queste regole, non vale più. Il secondo episodio dell'estate è un futile tweet del ministro medesimo, quello in cui usa il termine "zingaraccia". Anche questo è il superamento di un principio fino a ieri condiviso: quello per cui in politica non era ammissibile un insulto su base etnica o territoriale. Tipo ebreaccio, negraccio, napoletanaccio e via a piacere. Prima non si faceva e basta: si insultava il singolo in quanto singolo, ma non in quanto appartenente a un'etnia o a un territorio. Adesso questo principio non vale più, l'insulto etnico è stato sdoganato da chi è al potere. Siamo ai limiti dell'istigazione all'odio razziale, ma non preoccupatevi, questi limiti verranno superati presto, la strada è spalancata. La terza vicenda è quella dei due americani che hanno ammazzato un carabiniere a Roma. Anche qui, la questione politica principale non è tanto che li abbiano bendati - bruttissima violazione di regole ma non inusuale e non tortura cilena. La questione politica più importante è invece che il ministro, attraverso il sito del partito di cui è capo assoluto, abbia preso quella foto e rivendicato di fatto quella violazione dei diritti di un detenuto. In sostanza, il ministro dell'interno ci ha fatto sapere che è superato e obsoleto anche il principio per cui un detenuto (foss'anche il peggior stragista o mafioso del mondo) ha dei diritti. Per il ministro, siccome uno è un assassino allora gli si può fare ciò che si vuole. Amen. Abbiamo seppellito anche Beccaria. Ma la vicenda dei due americani ha pure una coda, che è perfino peggiore perché coinvolge purtroppo anche l'opposizione. Succede infatti che un parlamentare, Ivan Scalfarotto, esercitando una prerogativa pensata apposta per garantire i diritti dei detenuti, va in carcere a verificare le condizioni dei due. Anche questo è (era) un principio base dello Stato di diritto: le carceri non sono bui caveau di arbitrarietà extra legem, per questo si è deciso che i rappresentanti della democrazia possano entrarvi in ogni momento. Apriti cielo: nella narrazione salviniana questo atto di garanzia è diventato la prova che la sinistra "preferisce" i delinquenti alle vittime. Una porcheria assoluta. Un altro principio di base dello Stato di diritto buttato nel cesso a furor di popolo. Esercitare questo principio, entrare nelle carceri, significava ribadirlo. È - anzi era - una regola della convivenza civile. Oggi invece esercitare questo principio è diventato "stare dalla parte dei delinquenti anziché delle vittime". Allucinante.
