Wednesday was my LAST DAY FOR WET CLAY for a very long time as I prepare to #movetonewyork. Legitimately a "not knowing how long until I'll make anything out of clay again" kind of day, not just the last day of a cycle where I take a little break, mop the floor, and dust off my birks. So many mixed emotions. Completely overwhelmed at all the dragons I have to slay before I can cleanly exit Minnesota, excited by all the possibilities and support I've already received for this decision, scared at the risk—this is the biggest thing I have ever done for myself. So as I've focused on making the last pieces in this studio where I've really grown my practice, it seems funny to put the lid on my slip and think that it's just excess now, I will have no further opportunities to use that particular pint of colored clay. Putting a tool down and thinking it's potentially the last time I'll see it for months. When I moved to MN, I didn't have a steady studio practice and was sort of "ho-hum" regarding whether I would have the opportunity to make or not. Now, over the next six weeks, I will fire another kiln or two, pack and sort a ton of pots, books, and belongings. Button up my desk and hand over the keys to a new staff member. And take time to reconnect with myself, my values, desires, and goals; setting myself up for success in all kinds of future endeavors. It is an incredibly rich time and I'm so grateful for the opportunities that have brought me to this point in my life! tl;dr: A bunch of feels about moving to New York (at Northern Clay Center)
