Elmore Leonard (1925 – 2013) was an American novelist and screenwriter. His earliest novels, published in the 1950s, were Westerns, but he went on to specialise in crime fiction and thrillers, many of which became movies. Among his best-known works are Get Shorty, Out of Sight, Swag, Hombre, Mr. Majestyk, and Rum Punch (adapted as the film Jackie Brown). 

Leonard's writings include short stories that became the films 3:10 to Yuma and The Tall T, as well as the FX television series Justified (this is a fabulous series, often overlooked).

Un hombre hecho a sí mismo que lucha por su sueño y se enfrenta a la sociedad que no le permite desarrollar su proyecto 'a su manera'. Porque lo importante es eso: hacerlo a su manera. 

Pero eso causa problemas, claro. Y suelen ser mayores cuanto más peso específico tienen las personas implicadas. La densidad del conflicto viene determinada por el interés que se tiene en que fracase el proyecto.  La importancia de tus enemigos determina tu valía. 

A veces es difícil leer las historias que se cuentan en una película en clave política. No se sabe muy bien si nos cuenta un movimiento reaccionario frente a la corrección política o si narra la oposición de un hombre frente al sistema establecido. En el primer caso hablaríamos de un movimiento conservador, en el segundo de un hombre que camina por sí mismo sin ayuda de nadie. 

El prototipo puede funcionar en un ensayo, pero se queda corto en la estática que propone Fleischer, director más que notable apegado a su tiempo y que hizo películas estupendas.

Un argumento algo fantasioso, difícil de creer y poco verosímil. 

Se puede ver, es un producto típico de los años setenta y de esas cintas reaccionarias protagonizadas por Bronson en un clima de violencia y depravación moral que encuentra en la violencia su único camino.
