Best Romantic Movies on Hulu Right Now
https://ift.tt/3b4A8xH
Romance gets a bad rap at the movies. Until you behold the best romantic movies on Hulu.
Yes, Hulu is on the case with an expansive collection of romantic movies for you to connect with your softer side… or the side of you that screams in an eternal tormented shriek, desperately trying to find a mate whose shrieks match your tone in this expansive disappointing nothingness of existence. Love is hard. Anywho, here are the best romantic movies on Hulu right now.
Sense and Sensibility
This Jane Austen character really seems to have a handle on romance. The 1995 film Sense and Sensibility is adapted from the Austen novel of the same name and has a great deal of talent both in front of and behind the camera. Oscar winner Ang Lee directs while Emma Thompson (yes, that Emma Thompson) wrote the script.
Thompson stars alongside Kate Winslet, Alan Rickman and Hugh Grant. The movie, like the book concerns the Dashwood sisters and their sudden descent into non-stupendous wealth. Of course then the romance begins (not between the sisters, weirdos. Alan Rickman and Hugh Grant are in this thing too, remember?)
AWOL
AWOL is how indie romances should be – small, authentic, affecting. Joey (Lola Kirke) and Rayna (Breeda Wool) are two young women from a nowheresville Pennsylvania town. They meetcute at a local carnival and quickly fall for each other but circumstances threaten to crush their romance before it can even begin.
AWOL understands first and foremost that while love is easy, relationships (and arguably everything else in the world is hard). Sometimes what you want and what your environment is able to allow you to have are two very different things.
Margarita with a Straw
2014’s Margarita with a Straw is both a coming-of-age and romance film the likes of which you’ve probably never seen. This Indian film comes from director Shonali Bose and stars Kalki Koechlin as Laila, an Indian teenager with cerebral palsy, trying to achieve some independence in her life.

That opportunity comes for Laila when she is accepted to New York Universtiy and moves to Greenwich Village. There she meets and falls in love with blind Pakistani activist. Miles from home, Laila must deal with her changing, burgeoning sexuality and live in a world not built for her. But it’s cool: she can always take her margarita with a straw.
Hello, My Name is Doris
Between TBS’s (now HBO Max’s) Search Party and Hello, My Name is Doris, director Michael Showalter had a stellar 2016. Hello, My Name is Doris is a wonderfully sweet, equally tragic and completely hilarious romantic comedy.
Sally Field stars as the titular Doris, a lively woman in her ’60s who after the death of her mother becomes infatuated with a younger man. With the help of cliched self-help materials she does whatever she can to get his attention. Hello, My Name is Doris is an empathetic romantic comedy that will change how you view age.
Cashback
Cashback wins a very important award on this list: most intriguing, provocative poster. But it’s more than just a pretty poster. Cashback is a British romantic comedy about the most mundane of topics: working at a grocery store.
For anyone who as ever been young and had an interest in the opposite sex (or any sex for that matter), however, they know that one’s place of employment is often an absolute fountain of sex and chemistry. If that simple exposition isn’t enough, Cashback comes along with a sci-fi twist and more importantly: Oliver Wood from the Harry Potter series.
Let the Right One In
Let the Right One In may seem like another odd choice for a romantic movie on Hulu but it’s romantic and sweet in a way that few other movies are. Sure, the players involved are a little boy and a little girl vampire (though the fact that she’s a vampire may very well mean she’s centuries old, just try not to think about it).
It’s a spooky yet undeniably sweet movie that presents the female side of a romantic entanglement as the ultimate protector.
cnx.cmd.push(function() { cnx({ playerId: "106e33c0-3911-473c-b599-b1426db57530", }).render("0270c398a82f44f49c23c16122516796"); });
50 First Dates
50 First Dates has a somewhat disappointing Rotten Tomatoes score. Ignore that. It’s probably partially due to many critics’ distaste for at least one of the actors in the above screengrab. Not that they can be blamed. The presence of Adam Sandler or Rob Schneider in any comedy can be a rough sign. In 50 First Dates‘, however, it’s not an issue at all.
50 First Dates is a legitimately funny and romantic romantic comedy. Drew Barrymore stars as Lucy Whitmore, a woman with short-term memory loss. Due to a car accident, every day she wakes up believing it is October 13, 2002. Sandler’s character Henry Roth meets her in Hawaii and the two must overcome this bizarre condition to establish a lasting relationship.
Date Night
What do you get when you take the male lead of a popular NBC sitcom and pair him with the female lead (and mastermind behind) another popular NBC sitcom? A pretty decent rom-com as it turns out! Date Night stars Steve Carell (The Office) and Tina Fey (30 Rock) as a disaffected married couple trying to spice up their love life with a romantic night out on the town. But when a reservation steal turns into a case of mistaken identity, the pair’s night gets quite dangerous.
Date Night‘s action-heavy concept isn’t anything new to the romantic comedy genre but the presence of Carell and Fey (along with Mark Wahlberg, Taraji P. Henson, James Franco, Kirsten Wiig, Mark Ruffalo, and a whole host of other impressive talent) is enough to make this a pleasant viewing experience.
The Princess Bride
So you want to watch one of the most purely lovely and entertaining romance movies of all time? Well Hulu is here to say “as you wish.” The Princess Bride is a 1987 fantasy adventure film based on a book by prolific screenwriter William Goldman. The inspiration to the story infamously came from Goldman’s two daughters requesting conflicting stories about “princesses” and “brides.” So the writer decided to do two for the price of one.

Cary Elwes Responds to the Idea of Remaking The Princess Bride
By David Crow
In this adaptation, Cary Elwes stars as Westley, a young farmhand who loves Princess Buttercup (Robin Wright). But when Westley is shipwrecked and left for dead and Buttercup is betrothed to Prince Humperdinck, the hero must embark on a sprawling adventure to rescue her. And of course this is a framed bedtime story being told to Fred Savage in bed…as all movies should be.
The Boy Downstairs
So much of what goes into a good romantic relationship is timing. Sometimes the chemistry is there but the timing is not. 2017’s The Boy Downstairs delves into this phenomenon from a millennial perspective.
Aspiring Brooklyn writer Diana (Zosia Mamet) and aspiring musician (millennials are always aspiring, you see) Ben (Matthew Shear) are in a happy, successful relationship. But Diana is forced to break things off after she moves to London. When Diana returns, she finds a new apartment through her friend and guess who just happens to be the boy downstairs? That’s right: Ben…and with a new girlfriend, no less. What follows is a funny, yet mature examination of what it takes to get the right one back.
Happiest Season
The setup for Hulu’s 2020 Internet-breaking comedy Happiest Season is very romantic…to a point. Abby (Kristen Stewart) and Harper (Mackenzie Davis) are in love. Yay! Not only that, but they’re going to Harper’s parents’ house for Christmas where Abby might propose. Woo! Also Harper has not told her parents she’s a lesbian and in a committed relationship with a woman. Oh. Oh no. Poor Abby!

Happiest Season Review: Kristen Stewart and Mackenzie Davis Make Christmas Classic
By Natalie Zutter
Questionable setup aside, this an excellent, personal effort from actress turned writer-director Clea DuVall. It’s an attention-grabber and conversation-starter to be sure. It also certainly doesn’t hurt that much of the cast is mind-meltingly hot. Stewart, Davis, Alison Brie, and Aubrey Plaza are like a who’s who of TV and movie crushes. Hell even Victor Garber and Mary Steenburgen can absolutely get it. All in all, the charismatic cast and accessible concept makes for a surprisingly wholesome romance movie.
Plus One
Maybe it’s just me, but there’s something really charming about erstwhile TV stars playing the lead opposite each other in a romantic movie. Such is the case with 2019’s Plus One, which stars Maya Erskine (of Pen15) and Jack Quaid (of The Boys).
Erskine and Quaid star as long-time friends Alice and Ben enduring the portion of their twenties where every friend seems to be getting married at once. Thankfully Alice and Ben have a longstanding agreement to always be each other’s “plus one” at every wedding. But such an arrangement couldn’t possibly lead to them discovering they have romantic feelings for each other, right? Right???
Palm Springs
“Time loop” movies frequently try to distinguish themself from Groundhog Day, the progenitor and most famous example of the form, by changing up the genre. Edge of Tomorrow is an action movie and Happy Death Day is a horror movie, for instance. What’s so impressive about Palm Springs is that it leans in to the romantic and comedic stylings of Groundhog Day and in many ways bests them.
In this movie, Andy Samberg styles as Nyles, a young man living through the hell of experiencing the same day (a wedding in Palm Springs) on a loop. In one particular loop, Nyles accidentally brings in the bride’s sister Sarah (Christin Milioti) and the two must confront the reality of living the same day over and over again forever together. You know…just like any couple.
LOVE AND BASKETBALL, Omar Epps, Sanaa Lathan, 2000, (c)New Line Cinema/courtesy Everett Collection
Love and Basketball
And now we come to a movie whose title is the two greatest things in the world! Love and Basketball is about…well, what you’d think. Quincy McCall (Omar Epps) and Monica Wright (Sanaa Lathan) are two next-door neighbors in Los Angeles, California, who are both singularly focused on pursuing their respective basketball careers.
Love and Basketball is a film all about passions – both creative and romantic. The movie also does a surprisingly thorough job of marking all the important beats of a relationship from childhood through the adult years. There’s a reason Love and Basketball has become a modest cult classic – it’s a fine execution of both the romantic and sports movie genres.

Nirvana in Fire Fic Recs
While I don’t think I could ever make a finite list of my favorite fics, these are the ones that I recommend the most. I’ve included a variety of ships/gen, limited myself to ten fics with no repeating authors, and tried to include fics of different styles, though naturally the list still reflects my own preferences a bit.
In order of increasing word count, because why not:
silk scroll, twelve inches by 孢子梨 (4k, mcs/jingyan), translated by presume/justjoy - Or, the new emperor receives an old friend, and one last letter.
This is honestly one of the best fics I’ve ever read. Both the original and the translation are beautifully written and very atmospheric. The poem interspersed throughout is so emotionally powerful and fitting for Jingyan and Xiao Shu. Perfectly crafted in every way, a masterclass in short-form writing.
Ripples by jusrecht (5k, mcs/lin shu) - Mei Changsu was a pale, delicate-looking scholar with a gentle smile and a smooth, mellow voice, the kind that stirred the worst of Lin Shu’s scorn. (time travel AU)
A wonderful character study of Mei Changsu - selfcest serves to illustrate how he is both the same and different from Lin Shu, and in what ways he has improved (or not). The relationship between these two is wonderful - Changsu’s initial scorn turning to literal yearning for his past, and Lin Shu being enamored by the person his prodigal intelligence cannot outmatch (of course not, it’s himself but more developed).
apples in the trees by lastwingedthing (6k, gong yu/nihuang) - After Mei Changsu's death, Gong Yu stays in the south with General Mu.
Women supporting each other! The scene in the drama where Nihuang is briefly jealous of Gong Yu is one of my least favorite, and I’m very glad we now have this fic to patch over it - MCS is not omniscient, especially when it comes to love.
winter (if you must leave) by winchilsea (6k, mcs/lin chen) - Lin Chen and Mei Changsu talk about love without ever using the word. A series of scenes at Meiling.
So very sad. Includes description of just how much Lin Chen gave up to help Changsu for all those years, the pointlessness of war, love and lack of it. Perfectly encapsulates the awful destructiveness of Lin Chen and MCS’s relationship.
Amidst the Rain by Eswet (10k, pre-mcs/prince yu), translated by HanguangMoon - The advisor, to whom, it could be said, a bleeding heart was handed with a plea for help, could give no assistance.
The prelude to an incredible redemption arc for Jinghuan. Goes with great detail into how much Prince Yu is affected by his Hua heritage being revealed, but instead of rebelling he goes to Sir Su one last time for advice. I’ve always had a soft spot for Prince Yu - he’s such a fascinating villain, power-hungry yet also deeply loyal to those he cares for, and this fic explores both the good and bad sides of him. For those who read Russian I highly recommend the second part of this series as well.
Still Here (With All I Hold Dear) by marvelist/Ardent (11k, past mcs/jingyan) - Jingyan misses Xiao Shu in all the ways that matter but he cannot fall apart. Surprisingly enough, Lin Chen can relate to that.
Jingyan and Lin Chen becoming friends and healing together post-canon is everything I live for. They’re so different from each other - the duty-bound emperor and the carefree young master who roams the jianghu - but they also have so much in common! This one truly shines in characterization (Lin Chen needing Jingyan to prove himself, then immediately conning him into relaxing; Tingsheng being a perfect son; Gao-gonggong subtly caring for Jingyan; and of course Fei Liu, his snacks, and his love for Su-gege).
A Measure of Forgiveness by aboxthecolourofheartache (23k, gen) - Two post-canon fics loosely linked, focused on grief and mourning and catharsis. Largely a character study for Lin Chen, because the author is hopeless.
Catharsis for Lin Chen and Fei Liu. Featuring crying at Consort Jing, Lin Chen reluctantly liking Jingyan, Fei Liu and flower analogies, and general grief and mourning all around. The first fic also has some wonderful moments that confront Changsu’s sacrificial mindset.
The Bodhisattva of Jinling by kimboo_york (33k, mcs/lin chen) - "This is not what he expected out of the wheel of reincarnation, and he’s very miffed at all the very many spiritual texts he has read that suggested something better. Or, at least, different."...or, the one where Mei Changsu ends up in his very own Groundhog's Day Year.
MCS gets broken and then remade. Builds up to the big reveal so, so well. The development of his relationship with Lin Chen is also amazing - it absolutely would take him multiple lifetimes to let go of his focus on the Chiyan case and allow himself to fall in love. For all his brains, MCS is very blind during canon, but this gives him an opportunity to look further.
Borne on the Winds of Heaven by Ione (65k, gen) - The dying King of Southern Chu has one wish, to meet the son he has never seen. He and Princess Nian want Xiao Jingrui to turn his back on dangerous Da Liang, and make his home there. Sore in spirit, Jingrui isn't thinking about the future. All he lives for are his letters from Yan Yujin. Until shocking news arrives, and everything changes . . .
Fix-it with a focus on the younger generation. Jingrui is wonderful as always, and provides some nice commentary to end-of-canon events from someone who isn’t completely enamored of MCS and sees past his masks. The ending is also wonderful and has one of my favorite lines in Jingyan’s narration, and it challenges the military mindset that most of our canon characters have (I mean really, out of the five countries could none of them have been stopped by any method other than KILL THEM ALL TO ASSERT DOMINANCE??).
the mist that cloaks the river, the clouds that hide the stars by Sovin (177k, gen) - Yan Yujin has mostly evaded the worst consequences of the Chiyan case, despite her standing betrothal to Lin Shu. So warned, she precariously balances freedom and evading attention, and stays quite far away from politics for a number of reasons. Politics don't seem quite so keen to stay away from her.
If I had to pick one “must-read” from this list, it would be this one. It’s 177k, literally the longest English NIF fic on ao3, but I’m still not sure how the author managed to fit so much in there. Reading along as Yujin comes into her own while getting to see her refreshing take on events felt like a privilege, and I am so very glad this fic exists. And I haven’t even mentioned its wonderful take on a sort-of-fix-it, Yujin’s mature and deep friendship with Mei Changsu, or how Yujin’s gender changes the relationships she has with her father, her mentors, and Prince Yu in fascinating ways. There are too many fantastic elements to go into here, just read it!

Death
Ok a real lofty theme. But nonetheless a theme which is often the focus of many movies. As I see it there are at least 4 scenerios after death.
I. There is nothing. You slip into the big void. On the tombstone of the Japanese director, Yasujiro Ozu's tombstone there is written a word Mu which translates to nothingness. He believed that it was a comfort to know that after death there is nothing., you just ceases to exist in alignment with the zen buddhist tradition. You could say that in the great cosmos we are no more than an ant in an ant hill.
II. Rebirth. That after death you are reborn as a new creature in accordance with which good and bad deeds you have done in life.
III. A slight twist on the same theme is rebirth into the same life or according to Rust Cohle from True Detective "In eternity,  where there is no time,  nothing can grow. Nothing can become. Nothing changes.  So death created time to grow the things that it would kill and you are reborn into the same life that you've always been born into. I mean,  how many times have we had this conversation,  detectives?  Well, who knows? When you cannot remember your lives you cannot change your lives, and that is the terrible and secret fate of all life. You're trapped,  by that nightmare you keep waking up into." Also in Groundhog Day this theme is explored, but here it is rebirth to the same day.
IV. Heaven and hell. That you are rewarded/punished for the life you have led. The different religious belief systems have different set of rules on how to achieve a good life after death.  In the middle ages you could buy yourself into heaven if you were rich with an indulgence letter to save yourself from purgatory. There are numerous references to religion in movies from the more covert like in Star Wars to the more overt like in for instance: What Dreams May Become with Robin Williams.  According to Pascals wager (Blaise Pascal. French mathematician and physicist 1623-1662) the belief in God is rational. If the choice is either believing in God or not believing, the agnostic loses little in believing in God. This philosophical standpoint is also reiterated by Morse in an episode of the Inspector Morse tv show. (2/5-19)

Tumblr media
Sağına soluna bakmayı öğrenememiş olması NY şehrinde bir tek Lee Miller'a ölüm yerine ikramiyeyle vurmuş olabilir. Süt kamyonunun altında kalmak üzereyken o sırada yoldan çeken Condé Nast onu kaldırıma çekip kurtarıyor (dergi grubu değil, yayınların sahibi olan insan Condé Nast). Condé o gün evden birilerinin kahramanı olmak için çıkmış olmalı, genç kızın hayatını kurtarmakla kalmayıp ona modellik işi teklif ediyor. Kate Moss hikayesinin arketipi.
Bunu izleyen olaylar daha tanıdık. Modelliği bırakması, Paris'e gidişi, meslek olarak fotoğrafa merak sarması, Man Ray'le ilişkisi, sürrealistlerle ahbaplığı falan.
Tumblr media
Picasso'yla arkadaşlığı uzun yıllar devam ediyor. Bu ahbap çavuş fotoğrafları Libération sırasında, Lee Miller'ın savaş muhabiri olduğu dönemde çekilmiş, 1944.
Görünen o ki Lee Miller hayatının ipini kimsenin eline vermemiş. Man Ray'i gözü yaşlı bırakıp NY'ta sokak ve moda fotoğrafları çekmeye devam ediyor.
Memento mori yayınlama huyu olmayan British Vogue'a da genç Lisso'nun fotoğrafıyla birlikte şu telgrafı göndermiş: "I don't normally take pictures of horrors. But don't think that every town and every area isn't sick with them. I hope that Vogue will find that it can publish these pictures."
Tumblr media

Kagerou Project x Voltron
Can you imagine Lance and Keith in the setting of Kagerou Project's song 'Kagerou Days'? Yeah, no thank you. I have made a mistake in imagining it. Here's the link to the song. Warning. It has violent themes such as multiple death scenes, lyrics describing said death scenes and a suicidal/sacrifice play aspect. https://youtu.be/MU-rdG-M5Ho If you don't want to watch the song, cool. It's basically about this boy who has a crush on this girl. In a dreamscape like world, she jumps out in front of a truck by accident while chasing a cat. The boy holds her, sees a version of himself who says "What you see is exactly what you're gonna get", and the boy passes out. He wakes up, it being the same day as that weird dream he just had. He meets the girl in the park and is a bit suspicious because of him having déjà vu and tells her of his dream. Him stating "Hey but I, I really have to wonder why. 'cause in the dream I had last night we sat in the same old park, we are sitting in now." She's confused when he stops her from chasing the cat, but lets him lead her away from the road she got hit on in the dream. They're walking along the sidewalk and a construction beam slices right through her, obviously killing her. The boy passes out again, and wakes up, just like the morning before. It's basically Groundhog Day, if you've seen that movie. Or that one Supernatural episode. (It's more like the Supernatural episode if you know what I'm talking about, but I won't spoil it) The boy tried again and again to save her, leading her away from the spots she got killed last time, and protecting her, but she dies every time. He gets sick of this (stating that he's been doing this for ten years) and when the day restarts he tries to stop her and jumps in front of the truck, pushing her out the way. He is released he could save her, deposited dying instead. As he loses consciousness he sees another version of the girl, like the one of him that's been following him around. The screen fades black, only to show that the girl has been going through the same thing. Every time they sacrifice themselves it switches to the other one trying to save them. The girl proving this by stating "Guess I failed again" when she woke up. It's a vicious cycle. I am very sad my brain randomly supplies me with angst prompts. Mostly for the innocent couples or innocent characters.

It’s the Super Bowel. Or Bowl....
It’s finally time for that most American of events. The Super Bowl. Pitting the Kansas City Chiefs against the San Francisco 49ers. I don’t really care who wins but Kansas City hasn’t played in a Super Bowl in 50 years so I’m rooting for them even though that Jimmy Garapolo is very, very, very attractive while Patrick Mahomes doesn’t do much for me.
Let’s talk pre-show. Yolanda Adams was lovely during America the Beautiful. Demi Lovato sang the shit out of the national anthem. She’s a talent and I like that she is very open and vulnerable about her issues and problems.
Shifting to commericals…..
·       Secret – Let’s Fight Inequality. It’s strong. It works. I dig it.
·       McDonald’s – All the favorite orders of celebs was great. Because who doesn’t love McDonald’s? If you don’t love McDonald’s, the commies win.
·       NFL 100 – I don’t know if this was a spot or if this was a pre-game video but whatever it was it was amazing. 100% loved it. That kid who ran onto the field was the HAPPIEST kid in the W-O-R-L-D!
·       Fast & Furious 9 – Who gives a fuck?
·       Quibi – What is Quibi? That spot was heinous. What a fucking waste of money.
·       Tide – The stains can wait. I don’t love it but I am appreciative of the pull through from P&G. It seems to be their Super Bowl thing. They’ve just focused on this idea that the stain can wait the whole game. I love Charlie Day and Emily Hampshire from Schitt’s Creek is a hoot but do people know who they are? I mean run of the mill Americans watching the Super Bowl. It feels a little niche with the casting.
·       Wal-Mart Pickup – I hate to say it because Wal-Mart is the devil but that was a good spot.
·       Black Widow – I’m into it plus it features Florence Pugh and after Little Women I am in love with her.
·       Rocket Mortgage – Clever, clever, clever. I like the Jason Momoa gag and closing with Lisa Bonet was an additional level of meta clever. Maybe too meta?
·       Porsche – Terrible.
·       Snickers – This is my favorite spot so far. Hilarious. Luis Guzman is a riot. A damn riot.
·       Hulu with Tom Brady – Not today, Satan. Not today. What a douche.
·       Mountain Dew Zero Sugar – If there’s no sugar, what’s in it? Crank? Mountain Dew is garbage. Regardless of Bryan Cranston and Tracee Ellis-Ross, that shit ain’t good.
·       SquareSpace – Winona, MN. We’ve done this whole Fargo send up before. For like 20 years. I’d rather see jokes about Amy Klobuchar bringing a hot dish casserole to a fundraiser potluck.
·       New York Life – I really was into this until it was for New York Life.
·       Fanduel – Bullshit.
·       Hyundai Sonata – John Krasinski, Rachel Dratch and Chris Evans ALL IN ONE PLACE. This is a close second to the Snickers commercial.
·       Cheetos Popcorn – You can’t touch this. So, so, so smart and such a funny spot. New favorite.
·       Olay Regernist – I want to like this one but it was silly AND heavy-handed. That’s hard to accomplish but not in a good way.
·       Michelob Ultra – Gimme a break. They’re giving donations to organic farmers to grow shit for Mich Ultra? Lord….don’t pee off the roof and tell me it’s raining.
·       Avocados from Mexico – Pretty funny and who doesn’t love a moment with Molly Ringwald? No one. Similar to McDonald’s, if you don’t like Molly Ringwald??? The commies win.
·       Hard Rock Hotel – Ugh. What a waste of J. Lo and A-Rod. Why, oh, why did they have to bring in DJ Khalid? I just don’t understand why he’s a thing.
·       Pringles – Rancid.
·       TurboTax – I want to like this but I just don’t think I can. All people are tax people? I dunno. It’s not like anyone wants to pay taxes.
·       Tide – Still with the laundry later. It’s a smart approach.
·       Genesis SUV – John Legend and Chrissy Teigen are quickly become America’s couple, no? I liked it.
·       Coca-Cola Energy – What’s up with Jonah Hill? He looks like shit on a shingle. Martin Scorsese looks fine and he’s nearly 80. The same cannot be said for Jonah Hill.
·       Planter’s – I KNEW IT. I knew the death of Mr. Peanut was a part of something else. Super, super smart. Not sure it’s worth the investment or whether or not it will drive sales but VERY smart.
·       James Bond No Time to Die – Like Black Widow, I’m into it.
·       Google – Fuck me. That poor man trying to remember Loretta. We sobbed.
·       Sabra Hummus – This is how I mus? I don’t think so.
·       Verizon – Awful.
·       Pop Tarts – Jonathan Van Ness hawking Pop Tarts? I don’t get the connection.
·       Hummer – An electric Hummer? If I had a dollar……
·       Minions: The Rise of Gru – I’m NOT into it.
·       Saint Archer – What the fuck?
·       Wal-Mart – The pickup spot was waaaay better. Thank god. I though Wal-Mart was stepping up their marketing. They are not. Still crap.
Halftime show. Folks, I’ve had a on again, off again relationship with J. Lo. Right now, it’s on again. I am really digging her at the moment. Not sure that Shakira actually sang a note but whatevs. It was a solid show with the emphasis on the show. No one is expecting to witness a “Grammy” moment at the Super Bowl. Just do your hits. Bring the fireworks and wheel the set off the field.
This game is actually quite good.
·       Sodastream – Mars Water or Mark’s Water? Funny shit.
·       Hunter’s on Amazon Prime – Ummmmmm. What is this show? We’s a-gonna be watching that. Holy shit.
·       Pepsi Zero Sugar – You know what’s stupid? Pepsi invoking Coke colors and iconography. Dumb, dumb, dumb.
·       Heinz – Pretty OK.
·       Bud Light Seltzer – Post Malone is probably the right spokesperson for this particular product but it sure doesn’t speak to me.
·       Little Caesar’s – Meh.
·       Doritos – No.
·       Kia – Not terrible. Not great. Not the reaction you want after dropping 4 million for 30 seconds.
·       Turkish Airlines – Pretty smart but where can you actually find Turkish Airlines in the US? New York, Atlanta, Chicago? Where else? I’m not ever getting onto a Turkish Airlines plane from Indy.
·       Reese’s Take 5 – I really enjoyed this spot. Funny stuff.
·       Tide – Now with Wonder Woman and Charlie Day. It’s a solid campaign.
·       Alexa – Good stuff with Ellen and Portia. Do you think that everyone understands they’re married? I still wonder if Linda, Donna and Brenda from middle America actually get that they’re a couple and not just friends.
·       Michelob Ultra – The Jimmy Fallon and John Cena spot was pretty funny.
·       Xfinity – Terrible.
·       Nissan Rogue – This is not a new spot. I’ve already seen it. Don’t waste our time on old creative. So stupid.
·       Toyota Highlander – I wanted to like it but it was just too much.
·       Disney+ - All this new Marvel content makes me a little excited.
·       Discover No then Yes – I didn’t hate it but you kind of need to be paying attention. It happened quickly.
·       T-Mobile – Anthony Anderson’s real-life Mama. In the club. With cell service. Not bad but also a bit of cheap joke.
·       Budweiser – Typical American. Cheap.
·       P&G – Why?
·       Microsoft – This is how you extend your creative. They introduced their Katie Sowers spots a few weeks and NOW they’ve cut something new and made it about the Super Bowl. Solid.
·       Jeep Rubicon – SMARTEST AD IN THE SUPER BOWL. Loved it. Billy Murry reenacting Groundhog Day the movie on Groundhog Day the DAY to drive a Jeep over and over? Inspired.
·       Tide – We’ve wrapped it up with a clean shirt, everyone’s older and now with a dirty sweater. What started as not my favorite has turned into a solid outing by Tide.
·       Audi – So stupid. What the fuck was even happening?
Side note. Kyle Shanahan is 40. He also knows how to rock a hat. Hubba hubba. Also, this game continues to be quite exciting.
Great job, Chiefs! Fun, fun game.

Do the tabloids pay attention to anyone else’s relationships as closely as they do this poor guy? Pete Davidson’s string of failed romances consistently made headlines, and his new romance is no exception. So, who is Pete Davidson’s new girlfriend, Margaret Qualley?
While Margaret Qualley may not have immediate name recognition yet, she does have a Hollywood pedigree. She’s the daughter of actress and model Andie MacDowell, who’s the star of classics like St. Elmo’s Fire, Groundhog Day, and Four Weddings And A Funeral. Qualley’s father, Paul Qualley, is a former model, according to Vogue. Her parents divorced when she was five years old, and Margaret admitted on The Late Late Show With James Corden that she attempted to use her love for Lindsay Lohan’s The Parent Trap to get them to reunite.
It didn’t work, at least not the way she expected: Her mother and father didn’t reunite, but her mother did begin dating The Parent Trap star Dennis Quaid.
Needless to say, Margaret wasn’t exactly star-struck.
