ironically pre-2017 tarir is probably also the most toxic the game has ever been lol. i saw more than one WoW and LoL comparison at the time bc people were really, really mean when things went bad. but you know, when it was good it was the best the game ever was.
#never forget when i got whispered by random strangers telling me how they got insulted#SEVERAL TIMES#always felt bad for the poor souls lol#also the only times i ever threw hands with people in map chat#it wasn't all good i guess.#i still want it back.#to be fair that was the multiloot thing. we could just have og tarir back but without multiloot#ok im done now

since it's pavilion season, what about smth like "this boss blitz map will succeed during the gold reward time limit"
Don't underestimate the power you wield with a commander/mentor tag!
(this boss blitz map will succeed during the gold reward time limit)
#You'd be surprised how many times I've been able to pull a map together!#gw2#but yeah if you see the prep bar almost full and no other tags up yet - just pop yours and bump out some instructions in map chat#it helps if you can give an explanation of WHY it works to split too! sometimes understanding the mechanics goes a long way towards-#-getting people on board with the clunky gold method#it's the same way with any meta tbh sometimes people know the method but not the why and knowing the why gets em on track#also rip octovine multiloot method but I do not miss you

200/320 otters and the dwc meta is. too long. i think it’s the fact that you have to completely do the south meta (an hour or more) to even be able to get otters from the north meta that’s frustrating. the meta as a whole is materially rewarding, but even just 1 or 2 otters for completing the south meta would feel better imo
also i think they could really streamline the event pacing for south. idk how the devs could make it so as to not force people to jump all around the map to get their 150% participation, while also not omitting events that are tied to special missions. but man. this is a slog. even doing one meta a day is. rough.
#i don't want this in the gw2 tag#in general i enjoy it#it's just too long imo#none of my otters were from multiloot#in this house we love to suffer

Fun facts about yourself: GW2 edition
✨ List 5 facts about yourself as a player and tag people to get to know the fun and surprising stuff they’re willing to share ✨ Tagged by the lovely @pulledrosepetals~ 1. I have a very hard time playing with in game sounds (combat effects etc)! I normally turn everything off so i can focus on what's going on on screen, but I’ll listen to you/tube videos or playlists in the bg (I’ll always do a playthrough with voice acting/bg music tho when a new story comes out haha) I also make a ridiculous amount of character and oc playlists for gw2 its my secret passion(tm) (rip 8/tracks) 2. I used to do alot of wvw zurging and just general play, mainly support classes and sometimes dueling, but now i only really roam when im feeling spicy or bored i got super burnt out whoops~ I was on Mag to begin with, migrated to TC for a fair while, an atm im hopping between servers but oceanic time is suffering (Im living on FC atm roaming garbage condi stun spam ranger and condi mesmer and freelancing on support scrapper im so sorry. Condi is love condi is life) 3. I think my fav races are tied between Asura and Humans because they’re both just so inexplicably weird and i love it. (Humans=aliens, asura tiny shark rat gremlins with galaxy brains with grey morals? hell yeah hell yeah!) 4.IM ALLWAYS A SLUT FOR FARMING/MULTILOOT catch me on whatever the next big farming map is im greedy af lmao (used to command drunk SW runs back in the day when that was the big thing running around in circles collecting loot is so chill and soothing) 5.My now partner bought me gw2 nearly 6 years ago and i wouldn’t have started dating him tbh if gw2 hadn’t given me the opportunity to awkwardly flirt thru rp and mapchat shenanigans so shout out and ty gw2 for lowkey being my wingman (winggame??) I tag uHHHH EVERYONE WHO READS THIS?? I GUESS???? im bad at words and bad at these things whoops lmao
#not tagging this lmao#i dont have that much time to play atm cause of school and art but man gw2 is my main comfort game#love the world#love the aesthetic

suashi replied to your post: multiloot should have been banned 40 minutes ago
lou I keep wanting to ask but what is multiloot
OK so there is this map in gw2′s expansion that has a meta event going every 2 hours, and this event has an eploit that has been pretty popular for like a year or so
once the meta event is successful you have access to the underground of some city where you can loot a bunch of chests
people join a squad (50 ppl max) and split into subgroups, each subgroup takes care of a map’s event and at the end of the event, people switch from one successful map to another so that they can loot 10 maps’ chests
among other things it caused a specific item‘s price to just drop massively and now it’s finally going away and i will be able to sell all my stacks of it
this entire exploit was known as the easiest way to make gold (albeit in a p unfair way in comparison to the players who were following regular mechanics) and also knwon for all the assholes it attracted (i live for multiloot drama)
#suashi#there are so many multiloot rules to follow in those squads its hilarious how players organized this crap lol

On Daybreak
Living World Season 4 is here and I guess that means it’s time to babble a bit about the first episode, Daybreak!
Overall, the patch was a solid release, not without its bugs, but a solid release. I’m super glad to have something new to do (a lot of new things to do), especially with a new raid wing out 9 months after the release of Bastion of the Penitent. I am curious enough to stay tuned to see where the story goes, but I was definitely more distracted by the nostalgia factor than anything. The new zone was incredibly nostalgic for me as an old hat GW1 player, but before we start bullet-pointing, let’s put in a line break to avoid spoilers front and center.
In General
THANK GOD KEYRING.
QoL Astral Force refilling to full automatically after a party wipe in fractals and raids is a godsend. No more asking for corpses before every encounter/after every wipe. I am a happy druid.
The Binding of Ipos wasn’t exactly what I was expecting, but it’s an incredibly nice-looking focus. I like the floating book, but the demon hand is a bit of a deal-breaker for the characters I would use the focus on (i.e., Eet). Oh well. It’s detailed and has great animations, which is nice.
On Fractals (Twilight Oasis, instability changes, Deroir)
I find it really amusing and fantastic that the new fractal vendor is named after Deroir. Props to him; he’s done a lot for the fractal community and it’s awesome that he got recognition like Dulfy and WP.
The new fractal relic sinks are hilarious and ridiculous. When they said sinks, they meant sinks. I have a few months’ worth of everything saved up (infusions, [pristine] fractal relics, integrated fractal matrices, pages, etc.) and I was only able to afford the first level of mist attunement. So much raw stuff.
The karma one seems most useful to actually max though.
I wish they had introduced more things to buy with cosmic essences (from Shattered Observatory CM), or trades for them. I have almost enough for an infusion and a tonic, but I want neither. ;-;
Fractal Vindicators are actually a bit of a threat? More than Fractal Avengers anyway.
I haven’t tried the Molten Boss rework yet, but the Mai Trin rework is amusing. And I’m glad that you can push through the timegate cannon section.
Not having Social Awkwardness on Nightmare and Shattered Observatory is hilariously nice. Like seriously they’ve honestly gotten easier.
Speaking of, SO still has a bunch of bugs. SURPRISE. Although it sounds like the fractal dev found the problem, so...we’ll see?
Twilight Oasis was...dark. Like twilight. /shot
Okay but really. Playing as Sunspear traitors and helping Palawa Joko by slaughtering Sunspears and villagers is dark. And you get an achievement for stomping all the injured people.
Dying and being resurrected by Joko was confusing but pretty great? Also boing.
Dervish feels.
That ending doe.
On Hall of Chains
NEW RAID. IN THE UNDERWORLD. I AM A HAPPY HUMAN. SALAD. MIDGET. THING.
I’m super excited about the Underworld and Dhuum. Stuff that hasn’t been touched on in years, and a good bit of lore that I’m glad that they were able to find a way to visit again.
Also the encounters, particularly Dhuum, look legitimately challenging. I’m so excited to go hit Dhuum and die repeatedly.
We’ve been poking the new raid this week and I might post some progress stuff later on? We only have a few bite-sized sessions each week so we can’t spam it for hours on end like others, but we’re making progress and it’s exciting! Having new stuff to do is fantastic.
We have a lot of stupid deaths (including dying immediately on flying in because someone didn’t take the champion buff) already and it’s amazing.
I saw the ending cutscene. I have so many Underworld feels. Dhuum’s fight seems very reminiscent of his fight back in GW1, which is pretty clever. And nostalgic.
I kind of wish Anet would hide Glenna’s vendor items tied to each boss in her inventory instead of just having them greyed out. You can spoil the whole wing by scrolling down and seeing there’s a Dhuum mini. Oh well.
Hi Gwen.
On the Domain of Istan
There are so many “Praise Joko!” and “TO VABBI!” references. When we found out that you could drink from the fountains of Joko in the main hall before destroying them and would shout “Praise Joko!” every time, we kept clicking them repeatedly hoping for a hidden achievement. rip.
Nostalgia feels everywhere. I didn’t think I missed Istan, but I guess I missed Istan. Also super exciting that they kept most of the geography the same. Kamadan/Palawadan is set up essentially the way it was in GW1, except it’s been Joko’d. They’ve been consistent about doing that for a lot of things now, things like the location of the Temple of the Ages and Droknar’s Forge and things like that), but seriously. Kudos. I’s happy. xD
I find the zone pretty and interesting to run around in. There’s a lot of random little achievements and random places to make use of different mounts.
Bunny-hopping all over the cliffs is life.
So is griffoning. Good god it’s nice to griffon places and just fly around and look at things.
The meta events are amusing, and I enjoyed running into Amala again (after Twilight Oasis and the story). Also raiding Palawadan. Fun events with a relatively forgiving timer.
Although I’m disappointed that people are already “multilooting” these. You’d think Anet would have learned their lesson from AB multiloot and made account caps on the chests per cycle.
On the story (Daybreak)
Hi Aurene. You got bigger. And less cute. But still Aurene. So. pls come back ;-;
Rytlock and Canach continue to amuse. Best bromance 10/10.
I said it before and I’ll say it again, I’m not sure why anyone would be surprised that Kralkatorrik is now obnoxiously powerful. Letting it absorb a couple Elder Dragons’ worth of magic will do that.
I know some people get upset with all the one-liners, and honestly sometimes they are a bit to much and could be done without to keep tension going, but I appreciated a lot of them. Especially since the characterization of the PC is very close to a general perspective of how Ive normally reacts to things - with dry humor and snark to prevent himself from getting overwhelmed.
“I died once. It’s overrated.”
KOSS. OMG KOSS. Another sad fate for a GW1 hero (alongside the fate of Tahlkora), but nice to talk to him again.
Although the encounter definitely shows that the story instances are tuned to 1-2 people. We did it with 3-4 at various times looking for achieves, and absolutely murdered him before his first breakbar showed up. Welp.
References to a bunch of old characters from GW1 ayyyy
I love the fact that the prison cell break is unique per class. I didn’t think much of it because Ive is a thief and picking the lock just seems like the reasonable thing to do, not the thiefy thing to do, but they’re class unique! I replayed it with Cyra (my adorable sparkle charr) just to see the Legendary Prisoner Stance (Palawa Joko).
Fahranur. Oh my god. From the ibogas outside to the giant smashy bells. Nostalgia everywhere. I love that these elements came back.
Seriously Joko wtf.
What are these bugs you’re experimenting on.
Joko pls.
That’s a lot of dead Inquest.
Hi Braham. No, I didn’t really want to see you again. Thanks for acting like it’s all my fault. Which it honestly is, but hey. Still a grump. At least Rox is here?
I am curious that Anet brought him back here and now. But I’m willing to see what they planned for him.
Also news that Awakened are portaling around Tyria is mildly stressful.
Taimi’s voice actor, Debby Derryberry. A+ work. That sense of fear and dread from Hero of Istan through Fahranur, the First City was well done. Probably one of the highlights of the release. Happy that Taimi didn’t die though :>
...to Vabbi?
#guild wars 2#gw2#living world season 4#living world season 4 spoilers#Daybreak#story chatter a bit spotty this time#but I got super distracted by Hall of Chains#ahhhh#months of eh and now plenty of things to do#yay

Daily ascended timegate can be pretty lucrative :)
I’m actually holding onto these for a bit in the hopes that they’ll return to normal pricing after the huge devaluing of materials from the new map multiloot, which should net another ~50 gold, but even if i sold them now, that’s pretty good.

10 YEARS OF GW2 – A TRIP DOWN MEMORY LANE
Hello peeps! As a little countdown to GW2's launch anniversary on August 28 I decided to dig up some old memories and take a small look at my personal journey through the game. Each day I'll make a post about another year.
DAY 5: 2016
Ah, 2016... if someone held me at gunpoint to name the GW2 year, for me that'd be this one. So many things that happened, so many new characters created... let's continue on the nostalgia road!
As teased last time, with Heart of Thorns came my back then favourite meta event:
The Battle in Tarir. I loved the amount of coordination and communication it took to succeed. The dynamic music that changed with the battle's phases really set the atmosphere. My favourite runs were those that took the whole 20 minutes of event time and then succeeded with 8 seconds left to spare on the timer. That happened more often than you'd think.
South gate was my gate, and boy did I push that egg bomb a lot. In the rare occasion that south wasn't last to finish after 5 (or more) excruciating burn phases, it was really fun to ping pong the bomb back and forth on the entrance stairs to wait for the other lanes.

Classic.
On that note... anyone remember multiloot? Likely the most toxic I've ever seen this game in open world pve, if you've known me at the time you know I was an avid and vocal anti-multilooter. Abandoning maps to hop onto 'better' maps after one regenerating octovine was all too common, and throwing insults left and right was the norm. Probably the only time I've seen people regularly compare the game to LoL and WoW. Still, in retrospect I'm kind of nostalgic for that era.
While Tarir was probably 50% of what my playthrough tag here was about at the time, let's not linger any longer. There was something else that filled the other 50%:
Excuse the language, but spiritwood planks were 13 gold per piece.
Ah.. Nevermore. My first legendary journey and by far most memorable to this day. Alongside the grind for crafting materials, it made me complete all the Heart of Thorns maps, level all my masteries (HoT was pretty stingy with mastery points before LS3 happened so that took a bunch of effort), and get into both WvW and fractals for the first time ever.
Along the way I met other people tackling this - at the time - most challenging legendary weapon to craft (alongside HOPE and Astralaria of course), and we've bonded with strangers through missed event chains, mastery point despair, and silverwastes chest farming (RIBA wasn't a thing yet as far as I'm aware).
After several very active months of tears and joy I got my first (and best!) legendary:
I still consider this my greatest achievement in this game. Also yes, I am literally this childish, I refuse to make use of the legendary armoury for this staff. I made it for this walnut and only he gets to use it. I won't even transmute it for other characters. Everyone else gets exotic and ascended staves. Is that silly? Yes. Do I care? No. His legendary. Noone else's. Main privileges.
By the way, Nevermore anon, are you still around? I always loved reading your messages here.
2016 had a lot of "first times" for me, which included doing all fractals my girlfriend and I managed to duo...
(we were not dressed as anakin and obi-wan to reenact the episode III mustafar fight scene for a really awful epic video in the volcano fractal)
...and doing all the story dungeons together.
Inquest brainworms were planted that day.
And I also joined Tyria Pride for the first time! We marched all the way to Silverwastes and through the entire jumping puzzle that year.
You know what else happened in 2016?
The return of Super Adventure Box! Not much to say about it really, as always it was a blast.
The months went by, I spent a lot of time with all HoT metas, replayed the HoT story on different characters, still fought Tequatl a lot, announced some Crashlanding achievements at the Claw of Jormag and at some point along the way picked up a minor Tangled Depths obsession. Speaking of which, check out this screenshot:
So much going on here. No HP% on the HP bar (was that a patch thing or was that an option I hadn't activated?), 4:20 (no meme intended) minutes left on timer until the cannons are charged and the event is far from over, all gerents moving to their third phase... a blast from the past. One-phase killing all gerents who? Didn't dream of that in 2016. Also I was an Ogre lane regular, I apologize. The other lane mechanics scared me too much. Until I found out there's nothing scary about SCAR and Rata. Nuhoch without mounts is a different story.
LS3 also started in 2016! Taimi's Game is one of my all time favourite story instances. Paired with the excellent music, Taimi announcing that Jormag (my favourite elder dragon that I had been waiting for for years....) had woken up was an amazing goosebumps moment.
Alas I somehow lost a large chunk of 2016 screenshots (and with that all the story ones) so have this memory instead:
You're welcome.
If I wanted to I could probably find plenty more things that went on in 2016, but this is getting long so let's wrap it up here. Onto 2017!
Permanent additions to the character roster that year:
That's a lot of new characters in a single year. At least it's not all Sylvari this time.
