My favourite places to buy pre-loved baby & kids’ clothes

Becoming a parent has made me think differently about many things, and question previously automatic behaviours. One thought that has been plaguing me recently is sustainability; how can our household do more to look after the environment, and protect the world that our daughter will grow up in?

One major step we’ve taken is to change the way in which we buy clothes for Matilda. Little people shoot through sizes at a rapid rate, and I really enjoy finding fun and funky outfits for her to wear. But rather embarrassingly, until now I’ve purchased most of her items new.

Not anymore.

We’ve made a conscious decision to buy as much of Matilda’s clothing pre-loved going forward. I know we’re late to the party compared to many parents, but I’ve only just realised that there are plenty of places where you can buy exciting, expressive outfits from reputable brands online. 

So I can still have fun curating things for Matilda to wear, whilst giving items a second lease of life. And as a bonus, it can work out a lot cheaper too!

Here are some of my favourite places to shop for pre-loved baby clothes and second hand kids clothes:

Kidamajic

My go-to site, hands down. They are right on my wavelength with the style of clothes and brands they stock, and new items are listed all the time. You can search by age, and every item is wrapped in recyclable packaging with a hand-written postcard thanking you for your business.

Also, Kidamajic doesn’t discriminate between boy and girl items, because clothing is for all kids, which is RIGHT up my street!

Nikkie’s wardrobe

This site comes a close second, as I love the way they hang and photograph each item so nicely. Plus, they quite often chuck in a ’15% off your next order’ discount code, which comes in handy when the small people grow out of YET ANOTHER set of trousers.

eBay

An oldie but a goodie, eBay is full of awesome second-hand finds. I would recommend looking for parents offering ‘build your own bundle’ options, where you can pick and choose the items you want and send it to you in one parcel. 

There are also some sellers offering lovely pre-bundled clothing collections - I recently got Matilda a 7-item selection of aged 2-3 clothes including a mint condition Peppa Pig splash suit for £9.99!

Sweet Pea Preloved Clothes

Another great site for browsing clothes by age and finding well photographed and catalogued items, with the name of the brand in the description. I love the fact they offer accessories as well, so you can pick up sun hats, swimming costumes and even sleeping bags.

Facebook

I’ve picked up a few great bargains by joining local mother & baby Facebook groups, or even on Facebook Marketplace. Although I’ve tended to buy more toys than clothes down this route, I think the fact you pick up items in person really encourages people to only list quality items for sale.

Mums markets

I’m still fuming at our local Mum2Mum market for moving their quarterly sale out of our town to somewhere 30 minutes drive away, but I love the principle of a car boot sale just for baby and kids stuff.  I’ve managed to get some really good basics from NCT and other mum sales - all of Matilda’s 6-12 month tights I bought as a bundle for a fiver. Bargain!

There are lots more great places to buy preloved baby clothes online and in your local area, these are just a few of my top picks. 

It’s also worth noting that many of the sites like Kidamajic, Nikkie’s Wardrobe and Sweet Pea will buy clothing bundles from you, which is a great way to make a couple of quid and give good quality items another lease of life once your little one has outgrown them.
