Going out changes after having a baby. Last year I missed the beer festivals for the obvious reason of being pregnant, but I went again this year as Lizzie is enjoying the bottle more than the breast at the moment. Today was the first time since I went back on #maternityleave as a part of #sharedpatentalleave that I disregarded Lizzie's nap schedule and her growing dislike of napping in the pram (Oh why??) and took her across London to join her dad at Ealing Beer Festival. After all we can't always be held prisoners of the baby's nap schedule (well, I'll pay for that tomorrow when she wakes up at 5am again 😒). There are big, almost A4 format pictures from aunt Katia’s funeral. Several photos taken of people gathered around her coffin, grandma Lena’s anguished look onto her eldest daughter, aunt Valia crying, aunt Katia’s husband’s stoic face, my mumlooking so so sad. Several high res black and white A4 photos. Whose idea was that? Why would you take so many pictures from someone’s funeral?

Anyway, probably worth mentioning, that the pictures of aunt Katia’s dead face are the only pictures of her I’ve ever seen.

Currently caught on the "I want to be on holiday" & "Oh, I really love being home" pendulum. While I love being away and leaving London behind, there's something about summers in London that I really enjoy. The beer and food festivals for one, pubs with gardens or just sitting in a park (don't get to do much of the latter, but we try until Lizzie has had enough of nature). I've gone awol again here on Insta, but like it or not, there's more important things taking up my time. Lizzie's met more of her Slovenian family and I'm really enjoying being back in the country that was my home for almost thirty years. It's changed a bit since I've left, but I love how this small county found its thing in being green and eco-friendly. I took a photo of a dumpster truck today because I loved the underground recycling idea! My English family loves it too, which makes me really happy and proud. And the air! Coming from London I keep noticing how clean the air here is. I can actually smell trees and flowers even in the centre of the capital. I love London and our home there, but I do miss the outdoor living. And me saying that is definitely something 😊 There's also an abundance of outdoor sitting in all the cafes and restaurants, so we're just enjoying pottering around. Wouldn't it be lovely to always have at least a three day weekend? An extra day to spend with people you love doing things you love rather than doing things you have to 😊 As nice as this extra long weekend is and add much as I'm enjoying it, I had a bit of a wobble. After Lizzie was born I dropped pregnancy weight really quickly (I wasn't trying, but her early arrival left us in a daze and we were completely out of it, so I guess not eating proudly or enough had something to do with it), but that's not really the point. Yes, the lbs/kgs were gone, but the main body remained. And while I'm proud of what this body has done, it's been a bit of a rocky road to try and accept it. And the last few months of parenthood have added a couple of kgs to top it all. So, I had a tiny meltdown while trying on my regular clothes and announcing that I can never again wear shorts because I look like there's a chubby baby face where my knees used to be and my thighs are not as lean as they were.
