          “Birdie,” Josie called from where she was sat on on her bed, waving the younger girl over with a smile. “Come here.” The bubba inside of her was awake and making a point to move as much as humanly possible and Josie was determined to let Bridget feel them move and kick for the first time.

          She held out her hand for Bridget’s. “Do you wanna feel the baby?”

          “Goddamn it,” Josie cursed as she shoved her phone back into her purse, having just got a call that Rowan had been arrested and she had to end her shopping trip early. She didn’t stop as she put her phone away, taking her eyes off of the store around her, still pushing the trolley. The sound of her trolley crashing into something had her instinctively bringing her hands up to cover her ears with a grimace. They quickly dropped though and her head snapped back up to see the damage that had been done, heart pounding in her ears. 

          “Sorry!” she immediately apologized when she saw that it was someone else’s trolley. “I’m so sorry, my daughter just got arrested and I have to bail her out and- I am so sorry. You really don’t need to hear my life story, do you?” No damage had been done as far as she could tell, but she was more terrified of the embarrassment and possibly getting berated. She was also still on edge from the noise of it all.

          "Anna..." Josie rebutted softly, laughing shyly as she covered her face. She didn't always feel pretty, but Anna somehow always had a way of making her feel like the most beautiful woman in the world. She turned on the bed to face her girlfriend more fully, rolling onto her side and holding her head up with her hand as she offered Anna and the camera a bright, completely in love grin.

          "Mmm, you bet," she crooned, taking CJ's face in her hands and slowly kissing her. "You be on top this time?" she asked, clearly excited but also a little nervous. CJ being on top wasn’t the nerve-wracking part, the asking was. Even if only slightly. She felt comfortable being open with CJ and she knew she wouldn’t judge her or make her feel bad for anything she wanted, this just felt vulnerable since Josie was almost always on top and when she wasn’t, she was still somewhat in control.

          "I want..." Josie slowly, reverentially kissed Elizabeth's neck, "to sit on your beautiful face." She pulled her lips off of the soft skin, glancing up to make eye contact, smirking up at her. "Please?" Being able to be on top and watch Elizabeth eat her out? Sounded like absolute heaven.

          "Sorry..." Josie apologized quietly, leaning back in her chair to rest her head against the woman who stood behind her. One hand came up to rub at her sore eyes, a heavy sigh leaving her. "I couldn't sleep, so I thought I'd get some work done. What time is it?"

“when you’re younger, everything feels so permanent.” Alice - Josephine

          Josie laughed at the thought that Alice might've meant that she wasn't young. She had over 30 years on the girl. Alice was definitely young. Maybe not naïve, but definitely young. "It really does. Especially when everything's terrible. But nothing's forever."

“What did he do?” Kate - Josephine

          "I... I shouldn't have brought that up, I'm sorry. He didn't do anything." That was an obvious lie and Josephine didn't care. Kate knew that something had happened and Josie didn't really care if what she said changed that. She just didn't want to discuss it. If Kate wanted to put the pieces together of her uncle and Rowan, she wasn't going to stop her, but she'd worked hard to put that in the past.

          Josie hesitated. She trusted Anna, but the idea of being in such a vulnerable position was a little disconcerting. After a moment, she did as she was told, eyes tensely closing as she held out her hands.

          That very same smile brought up Josephine's lips and she didn't hold it back, feeling absolutely and totally in love with CJ in that moment. She reached up to take CJ's face in her hands, gently stroking her cheeks with her thumbs. "I'm sure," she assured. "Well, maybe not completely, but I will tell you if I wanna stop, CJ. I promise." She wasn't really nervous or scared, but this was honestly uncharted territories and she wasn't entirely sure what to expect. Of course she knew roughly of the mechanics of it all, but some things were likely still a total mystery.

          But she trusted CJ.

          "I won't leave," Josephine assured with a soft smile. "Do you want dinner? I'm sure I can make something.

“That really spooked you.” Bridget - Josephine

          Josephine was still reeling from the unexpected sound of someone dropping something in the cafe. She'd tried to hide it, but her reaction had been so strong and Bridget was far too capable of reading her, and others, for her to be able to hide it.

          Josie let out a trembling breath and ran her hands over her face. "I'm fine, just... I wasn't expecting it." She'd always had a thing about loud noises, but lately it was getting worse and she couldn't even hide it when she wanted to.

          "I can't..." She took a deep breath, trying to calm her racing heart. "I can't push it away, ignore it, like I used to." She couldn't tell if the world was getting louder or if she was getting more sensitive to all of the noises. Even small, everyday noises were getting to her and by the end of the day she just wanted quiet. But when you lived with an angry teenager, quiet was hard to find.

          Josephine flinched at the sound of Rowan slamming her bedroom door shut and turning on her music only to blast it as loud as it could go. She pressed her hands over her ears to dull the noise and fell back onto the couch with a groan. “I don’t know what I’m gonna do with that girl. She’s gonna end up dead in a ditch or locked up, the way she’s going.” 

          She’d tried everything from being the understanding parent who attempted to guide without smothering, she’d tried therapy, smothering, being as strict as possible, yelling (she wasn’t proud of that one, but she’d been at her breaking point). Nothing helped and she was terrified that she’d have to identify her body at some point.

          She grimaced, trying and failing to block out the music. “Ugh!” she growled loudly. “Turn it down, babe!” Rowan probably couldn’t even hear her, but she was on the edge of a total fucking breakdown because of the way the music scratched and pounded at her skull.
