if you give josh a smidge of parental approval, attention or affection - just know it's definitely the most he's actually gotten. his parents have always struck me as people who are exceptionally good at pretending to look like involved parents, but truly don't bother to parent or guide him. he was raised in a highly conservative household which fucked him up pretty bad on multiple fronts. i do think they were a little more attentive to his brother's but they found josh frustrating and needy in comparison.
siege on x-41 may not be 616 canon but all these deets align with my headcanons so i'm using them. including josh being so reluctant to go against his friend group that he ended up cutting out real friends because they were 'weird'. this is behavior his parents definitely encouraged.
i feel like josh is one of those kids who always knew he was different, so he hyperfixated on fitting in. wearing the right clothes, liking the right bands, knowing the right references and liking the right movies. josh in early xavier's / just coming into mutandom is someone who 'likes' things that are superficially popular. his personality is malleable and superficial, he absolutely mirrors the strongest people around him (duncan, julian) because he feels the moment he deviates and shows individuality, he'll be rejected and will become that guy who sits alone during lunch. i don't think his parents loved the skater/punk aesthetic he adopted but i think they liked his friends and their politics enough that they let it slide because it was what was 'in'. they're noted multiple times throughout the book to be pretty anti-mutant and highly conservative, which again - fucked him up real good.
josh himself is goofy, a little dorky, and while not academically minded he's got a lot of other smarts. he's surprisingly quick on the uptake and thinks well on his feet. he has a great deal of emotional intelligence (you kind of have to in order to chameleon your way through life), though he has poor emotional regulation. a perfect byproduct of the 'conceal don't feel' parenting approach.
josh is also fairly conflict avoidant when it comes down to it. he cuts himself out of any picture before other people can reject him.
he's at his absolute worse when he does that.
what i'm saying is being raised by frigid WASPy parents really did a fucking number on him and he doesn't love himself at all.

Emma Frost announces in one of the first comics of Krakoa that she is going to be the "East India Trading Company of Mutandom", Charles arrives to Krakoa in colonial explorer gear, and Beast creates a puppet state to support Krakoa politically and nobody does anything to stop him. Colonial aesthetics and presence is very clear in the Krakoan narrative and it is disinegnous IMO to pretend it isn't.
Mind you I'm also just genuinely a Magneto hater these days because. well I think we need to have a larger conversation fandom wide about how the writer to rehabilitate Magneto in comics as a character is not only a Zionist himself but based Magneto off a Zionist politician and you can't divorce the Magneto and Charles dynamic in that era from both of them being Zionists in Israel together 🤷 or are we just going to say Magneto is right and not ask whose politics the right is derived from.

I got say as someone familar with Professor X from X-Men Evolution and the Films, it pretty damn disturbing seeing the type assholery and outright villainous behavior from Comic! Charles Xavier.
Yeah...
As a comic fan, it's always so interesting to talk to people who've only watche the movies or shows, because when you try to tell them that "Charles Xavier is a jerk!", they look at you weird.
I get it (to an extent). When these people hear Charles Xavier, they picture Patrick Stewart, and it's impossible to dislike that man, but as a comic fan, it's disheartening when people who have never read the comics tell you that they understand a character better than you do.
Understand, I'm not talking about you, that's more of a general statement. Especially with the MCU on the rise and fans saying things like "Well, in the movies...", only for them to pretend they can't understand you the moment you point out what happened in the comics... that the movies are supposed to be based on.
I know you didn'task for this, but just for shits and giggles, here's a list of reasons why Charles Xavier is a Jerk.
1. The X-Men
Let's start with the obvious.
Dude took the children that were in his care, that either went to him or were entrusted to him, to help them with their mutant gits, and instead he trained them to be child soldiers. I know there are plenty of other things to criticize him for, but this one is often overlooked.
2. Memories
Charlie boy has a nasty habit of screwing with the memories of those around him if they disagree with him... or they find out one of his secrets... or he screws up... or just because he feels like it.
Scott has been the victim of Xavier's rewrites multiple times, the biggest example of which being when he erased Scott's memories of not only the entire X-Men team that was either killed or lost during their attempted rescue of the original X-Men on the first Krakoa, but he erased the memory of Scott having another brother, who was on said team.
Said younger brother (Gabriel) went on to become the dictator of the Shi'ar Empire. Now, I'm not saying that him erasing Gabriel from Scott's mind directly led to that outcome, but I'm also not saying that either. Whose to say what would have happened if Scott had managed to be there for his brother.
He's also done this extensively with Logan, even going so far as to "persuade" him to join the X-Men when he was originally there to kill the professor.
3. Jean Grey
Oh, boy.
Did y'all know that Chuck was in love with Jean while she was a teenager and he was in (at the very least) his forties? Yeah. And that's not even getting into the fact that he trained her as a child, which means he knew her since she was ten.
And speaking of Jean as a child, when he first met her, he sensed her power and added mental blocks to keep her "contained". Putting aside the whole invasion of a child's mind for a second, I would like to point out how these blocks directly led to Jean's Dark Phoenix phase. Y'know, the time she destroyed entire star systems.
4. Danger
We all remember the Danger Room, right?
That room with the holographic simulations that the X-Men used in their training to become child soldiers?
Did you know the Danger Room was sentient?
No?
Charles knew.
He knew and kept it a secret, until he couldn't anymore, because Danger broke free of his controls and set about trying to get rid of the X-Men.
Probably another reason he is so against A.I. on Krakoa.
Speaking of which...
5. Krakoa
If you're not following the current era of the X-Men, beware, because here there be SPOILERS.
So, mutandom finally has their own Island Country (again) and there are some rules for that island.
Make More Mutants
Kill No Man
Respect the Sacred Land
Those three vaguely-worded and broad statements dictate life on Krakoa, and if you break them, you get sentenced to the pit, where you can't move or do anything, but you're conscious and aware of the world going on around you.
One of the first things Chuck did was say "there will be no prisons on Krakoa" and the very first thing he does, is sentence Sabertooth to mutant prison for breaking laws that weren't even written yet. And not just Sabertooth, but others as well.
If you're not reading Victor LaValle's SABERTOOTH, I do highly recommend it. In the latest issue, we get specifics on how/why five other mutants were sentenced to the pit.
Madison Jeffries is a technopath who was trying to create a space on Krakoa foe Danger, the sentient A.I. I mentioned above, because he was in love with her (don't look at me like that. This is Marvel and that isn't even remotely the weirdest relationship). He was accused of violating Krakoa and sent to rot in the Pit.
Melter was also sentenced to the Pit for not "respecting" Krakoa, because he wanted to take a more active role in his new country. He's one of those who believe in Xavier absolutely and wanted to help, only to be cast into Mutant hell.
Nekra and Oya were both sentenced for breaking the second law, killing pirates that were attacking Krakoa. They were protecting their home, but because it didn't have Xavier's stamp of approval, or because they weren't X-Force, they were cast aside.
Third Eye was sentenced to mutant jail for making the mutants of Krakoa feel guilty. I kid you not. He "violated" the first law by telling the mutants of Krakoa that maybe having kids (per the first law) and then just tossing them aside afterwards might not be the best thing for either the children or their image as a country. As such, he was convicted by the council and thrown into the Pit.
Yes, these weren't just Charles alone, but seeing as how he is often presented as the head of the council, it's only fair to lay these at his feet.
And his hypocrisy on the island doesn't stop there.
In the most recent issue of IMMORTAL X-MEN he tried to get Mystique kicked off the Quiet Council because she went behind the Council's back to resurrect her wife (something promised to her by Xavier and Magneto, even though they had no intention of delivering on that promise), at a meeting where his secret dealings with Moira MacTaggert to create Krakoa and all his fuck-ups were being presented to Hope, the newest member of the QC.
His hypocrisy knows no bounds.
And this isn't even a complete list. This is just the stuff that I thought of off the top of my head.
So always remember

X-Men Abridged: 1969
The X-Men, those dino-obsessed mutants that have sworn to protect a world that hates and fears them, are a cultural juggernaut with a long, tangled history. Want to unravel this tapestry? Then read the Abridged X-Men!
(X-Men 52 - 63) - written by Arnold Drake, Roy Thomas, Linda Fite and Don Heck, drawn by Werner Roth, Barry Smith, Tom Palmer and Neal Adams.

step aside, Wall-E, these Sentinels have nothing on your range of emotions (X-Men 59)
When we last left our X-Men, they were smack-dab in the middle of a big, convoluted plot! Let me refresh your memory:
The X-Men had to beat a hasty retreat;
Polaris had joined her father Magneto
Magneto was injured;
Iceman had quit the team because he still had faith in Polaris;
Eric the Red appeared, making overtures towards Magneto.
And the whirlwind continues! The X-Men (sans Iceman and Cyclops) sneak back into Magneto’s base! Eric the Red reveals himself to be Cyclops! They set a trap for Mesmero! Which is sprung by the wayward Iceman! But he has pertinent information! Lorna is not Magneto’s daughter, she’s just an orphan! Bobby (hilariously) has the papers to prove it!

magneto has now fucked up the relationships he has with all of his children before any of them knew he was their father. mad props (X-Men 52)
Lorna breathes a sigh or relief, glad that she doesn’t have to be evil anymore. (Because obviously, evil is hereditary. And even though she keeps sensing everyone’s ‘evil vibrations’, she stayed with Magneto out of her own volition. SO.) Without Polaris’ power to back them up, Magneto and Mesmero flee.
After this, the X-Men come back to live at the mansion again. No muss, no fuss. Roy Thomas, who’s returning to the book, wastes very little time undoing some stupid decisions made last year. In fact, 1969 has a pretty strong showing, with plotlines flowing almost naturally into one another, a bigger cast and the introduction of one of my favourite villains. It’s pretty palatable.
The one snag is a superfluous issue where the X-Men fight Blastaar and Jean kills someone. (Never comes up again, don’t sweat it.) I wouldn’t even mention it, were it not for this moment where Jean uses some super duper mind machine:

does this remind you of... anything? no? just me then (X-Men 53)
So, anyway, remember Scott’s beloved brother Alex?

i love that jean is all smiles about scotts terrible and all-encompassing ability to repress everything (X-Men 54)
I can sort of understand why that whole third Summers brother was such a huge secret for so long, considering Alex was not even kept a mystery and it still took SIX YEARS for him to be revealed.
Alex is barely introduced before he gets the old plot-bat to the face, getting mixed up in a fight when some pharaoh claims all mutants are pharaohs, being children of the Sun? Apparently, all of them are powered by cosmic rays i.e. the sunlight. Alex is kidnapped, as is Cyclops, and just as Cyclops ponders how happy he is that Alex is not a mutant despite him having the X-Gene, he is attacked by the pharaoh and Alex saves his brother using newly minted energy powers! Oh, the irony.

when I say that I want Alex to wear his old costume, I obviously mean this sexy Egyptian skirt-ensemble (X-Men 55)
Alex and the pharaoh are apparently two sides of the same coin, being charged by the same cosmic rays: when one waxes, the other wanes. The pharaoh locks Alex away in a tomb, cutting him off from those sweet, sweet sunbeams and taking all the power for himself. Like a Power Ranger villain, he grows in size and becomes… the Living Monolith! The X-Men take him down while Alex accidentally blows up the Living Monolith’s temple.
Alex, afraid of his own power, flees into the desert and is apprehended by… the Sentinels?! Surprise, bitch! Lorna is also abducted by them out of her New York apartment. Their next victim is Iceman, and they deliver him to… Larry Trask! (Son of.)

My favorite thing about Sentinels is that, despite the fact that they are objectively huge, they are still able to sneak up on people. Apparently, these murderous periwinkle toaster ovens are so quiet, you only notice when they rip open a roof to get at you. (X-Men 59)
Larry Trask hates mutants because:
They killed his father;
He’s a racist.
Determined not to repeat the sins of his father, Larry has a helmet with which he can use to take direct control of the sentinels, so hopefully they won’t rise up and rebel this time. Somewhere, Asimov is rolling his eyes.
On live television, Larry Trask baits Iceman into attacking him, trying to smear him and mutantkind in general. In the mean time, the Sentinels strike everywhere, taking Unus, Angel, Banshee, the Living Monolith… Even Wanda and Pietro. It´s a literal who´s who of sixties mutandom! The only exempt ones are the Changeling and Magneto, the latter only because he’s been a robot for a while now. Mesmero is just as shocked by this unnecessary retcon as we are.
Just as Larry orders the Sentinels to kill every mutant in the compound (including Bobby, Lorna and Alex), a family heirloom is ripped off his neck. Apparently, this medallion was some kind of protection: the late Bolivar Trask knew little Larry was a mutant and tried to hide this fact from the Sentinels.
The Sentinels turn on Larry faster than you can say “Is being betrayed by AI a hereditary trait?” The X-Men intervene and, after unleashing the might of Havok, they end up in a debate with the Sentinels, turning their own logic against them:
Protecting humans is more important than killing mutants.
So, to protect humanity, they must destroy the cause of mutation.
The Sentinels promptly launch themselves into the sun. Neat.
On a side note, the relationship between Jean and Scott is shelved for now? It seems like they’re dating, but also not? It’s such weird storytelling, especially because their annoying will they or won’t they has gotten so much focus in the past and the relationship between Lorna and Bobby is crystal clear:

Scott. Jean. Is it really going to take Chris Claremont to DTR you two? Fuck’s sake (X-Men 60)
Because Havok’s powers still threaten to overwhelm him, the X-Men contact a former colleague of Professor X… Professor Lykos.
Let me tell you about the sheer, amazing sixties wonder that is Professor Lykos. Originally, Thomas envisioned him as a vampire, but the Comics Code forbade vampires. So, instead, Lykos ends up a human who was bitten by a magical pterodactyl at a young age and who can only survive by draining other people’s life force. He can also hypnotize people into doing his bidding.
Yes.
Lykos suspects mutants might be the cure to his strange, strange ailment, and begins to drain Alex. But to his (and our) sheer delight, he turns into a pterodactyl!

I just love this damn idiot so much (X-Men 60)
Be like Sauron! Choose evil!
The X-Men barely figure in this plot. Ordinarily, I’d be bothered by the fact that these three issues are more about the villain than the heroes, but given that it’s Sauron, I’ll let it slide.
See, Sauron’s tale is a tragic one. Not only is he a weird pterovampire, he is also in love with a sweet girl whose father forbids him from seeing Dr. Lykos, because he is… poor! Gasp! (Those billionaires, not even a doctor is good enough for their daughters.) Sauron, slightly corrupted by his dino-side, realize that it’s a lot easier to just kill Tanyas father than to impress him by robbing banks for cash.
When he attacks the man and sees the reaction of his star-crossed lover, Lykos realizes Sauron is far too much in control. Sauron is too evil! Lykos/Sauron promptly flees to a cold, distant region, the same place where he got bitten all those years ago, figuring he’ll stay in isolation and starve himself of the human energy he needs. But, just as he is utterly ravenously out of his mind, Tanya finds him! In order to protect her, Sauron sacrifices himself by throwing himself off the mountain… straight into the Savage Land..
The X-Men (sans Angel) follow him into the Savage Land. (It’s unclear why? To retrieve his corpse? Annoyingly, in the next arc, Sauron is not brought up again.) There, they run into Ka-Zar, who’s embroiled in a fight with… prehistoric mutants?
Angel, meanwhile, follows the X-Men in their footsteps, only to end up on the other side of the fight, with a strange white-haired man named the Creator who claims to be the mentor of these Savage Land mutates. Angel pledges him his wings, gets a snazzy new suit and flies off to fight the X-Men. Only then does the man secretly reveal himself: he’s… Magneto! (The true one, not a robot.) And he wishes to rule the savage land!
Angel and the other X-Men briefly fight, but soon the situation is sorted out and the X-Men go and confront the Creator. Magneto, who is way too hammy to ever hide his true nature for too long, reveals himself and the fact that he created these… mutates, including the creepy Brainchild. (He’ll become important later.) The X-Men defeat Magneto and he seemingly dies again.
Without Magneto there, the mutates revert to just being regular cave(wo)men:

I love that Ka-Zar, WHO HAILS FROM THE SAVAGE LAND HIMSELF, has no scruples othering his own kin. (X-Men 63)
The comic accidentally ends on a sad note: the X-Men confessing that they’d give up on their powers in a heartbeat. Not to nitpick, but while I buy that coming from Beast and Cyclops, this issue is less clear-cut when it comes to Jean and Bobby, who have a much better handle on their powers and, more importantly, present as human. It could potentially be an interesting issue to explore, but instead, it is swept under the rug, presenting the team (once again) as a boring but unified front. It remains one of my critiques of this era: the X-Men barely get fleshed out as individuals, other than the broadest of strokes (Leader; Rich Boy; Joker; Smart Guy; Girl). Pity.
Didn’t you take Art History? One thing that has definitely improved is the overall art-style. Artists experiment with panels and splash pages, stepping out of the traditional 2 by 3-grid that Kirby loved so much. It makes the stories more dynamic and, because the writers get more issues to tell their stories, the artists get more space to do their art.
I mean, check this ish out:

Fuck yeah, mental powers represent. (X-Men 57)
Ugliest Costume: None! I really like Havok’s black bodysuit with white stripes and the Sentinels design looks so much less dorkier than before. A+.
Best new character: Sauron, duh. Does he team-up with Dr. Doom at some point? That would be some ham-to-ham combat.
Most audacious retcon: There’s a second Summers brother?
What to read: 57 to 59, which is the plotline dealing with the much improved Sentinels. 60 and 61 if you have a soft spot for vampiric pterodactyls.

DOMAIN: GENOSHA
BARON(S): Erik Lehnsherr
CAPITAL: Monarchy of M
HISTORY:
In the early days of Battleworld, mutandom was largely contained within the domain of EGYPTIA. Within the domain lived two very good friends, CHARLES XAVIER and ERIK LEHNSHERR. The two had vastly different ideas about how mutants should be freed; while Xavier set up a refugee camp, Lehnsherr dreamt of a mutant utopia. The two had a bitter falling out before Lehnsherr stole away across the Nile to form his own colony. Twenty years later, this colony later became known as GENOSHA, a mutant utopia domain approved by The GOD EMPEROR DOOM himself. The mutants of Genosha are protected by the SENTINELS that guard the Egyptia borders; it is quite often that mutants from Egyptia try to sneak across the border for a better life. Twelve years after the creation of Genosha came the mutant god APOCALYPSE, who made conditions for the homo superior even worse. Bitter still at Xavier even after his death, Lehnsherr, now going by KING MAGNUS, has refused to open his borders in the last eight years. Genosha is prospering and the Royal Family is thriving. From the outside, the domain seems perfect, which is attained by the routine mind sweeps by the telepaths of all residents where information is implanted and memories altered. . Inside, there are rumors of conflict that can’t be proven. Long live King Mangus. Long live Genosha.
THINGS TO KNOW:
The Royal Family is the lifeblood of Genosha. King Magnus has three children: Princess WANDA, her twin brother Prince PIETRO and the youngest, Princess LORNA. Appearances in the family have always been of the utmost importance. If Genosha is to be renowned for its peace and perfection, those in charge have to be nothing less than perfect themselves. It’s forbidden to speak poorly of the Royal Family, and King Magnus’ word is law without anyone to check him. As for the children of the atom, it’s long been known that Princess Wanda – while a loving mother and good wife – is plagued by fits of insanity that the Monarchy works hard to cover up. In order to help ease tensions with MOONVALE, the domain that Genosha has long been at war with, King Magnus proposed a trade with Baron MAXIMUS BOLTAGON that saw their Princess, CRYSTALIA AMAQUELIN, betrothed to Prince Pietro to help foster peace. Some wonder the legitimacy of the bargain, but all whispers occur behind closed doors. Egyptia is also off-limits in conversation; the feud that broke apart Magnus and Xavier still very clearly is a sore subject for the King. He keeps the borders secure with Sentinel Stretch; the Stretch is filled with Sentinels, hence the namesake. They keep out unwanted mutants from Egyptia, but there’s been rumors that a mutant on the inside of Genosha has been helping smuggle foreigners in across the borders and helping get contraband out. As a human free zone, however, mutants are welcome to walk in the Krakoa Gardens or stop by the Heaven Night Club. All who fall out of line are promptly sent to the Pit. Rumor has it that mutants in Genosha just don’t seem to die, and fingers have been pointed at the King’s Guard, the FIVE and the mysterious MESSIAH PROTOCOLS. Should that be true, the game would be changed for mutants everywhere. It’s too bad that the Monarchy of M is infamous for being bad at sharing.
PLEASE SEE UNDER THE CUT FOR BIOS.
CRYSTALIA AMAQUELIN – a princess by birth, CRYSTALIA AMAQUELIN was the baby sister of the Inhuman royal MEDUSALITH AMAQUELIN. Medusa’s husband BLACKAGAR BOLTAGON was the brother to Baron MAXIMUS BOLTAGON, and it was Baron Maximus who made the decision to trade Amaquelin to KING MAGNUS as a peace treaty. Amaquelin had long been in love with the brother-in-law of the GOD EMPEROR DOOM, JOHNNY STORM. Upon hearing that Storm stood in the way of the union, both Boltagon and Magnus appealed to the God Emperor to remove the obstacle. As a result, Storm was sentenced into becoming the SUN of Battleworld. Devastated at her lost love and sent to live in a foreign domain, Amaquelin became the wife of Prince PIETRO MAGNUS. The two did grow to love one another over time, and it did not take long for them to conceive a daughter, a princess named LUNA MAGNUS. Although she loves both her husband and daughter, there’s always fear in Amaquelin’s mind that she’ll be cast out now that she’s provided a daughter for the Monarchy. Magnus holds little love for his only daughter-in-law, even if they present as a happy family. She saw how quickly they dispatched Storm. The last thing she wants is for her daughter to grow up without a mother. At the very least, she’s able to travel home to Moonvale when she needs a break. It’s just a shame nowhere feels like home anymore.
EMMA FROST – diamond hard and politically ruthless, EMMA FROST earned the nickname the White Queen early on. The primary advisor to KING MAGNUS, Frost is known for being driven, dedicated and committed to the betterment of all mutants. She was pulled from EGYPTIA by Magnus specifically to be his primary telepath, and very few know that she was not born in Genosha due to the psychic work she did to mentally make everyone forget her origin. Frost, in fact, has a history in Egyptia. Her supposed “daughters”, the STEPFORD CUCKOOS, were actually clones grown in Sinister’s Labs and she had once been a lover of SCOTT SUMMERS, the leader of the Summers resistance camp, after he lost JEAN GREY to the PHOENIX FORCE. Remaking herself in Genosha, Frost is glamorous, cold and arrogant. As head telepath, she’s the one tasked with returning memories to the resurrected in the MESSIAH PROTOCOLS. Few know that she actually meets with the Egyptia Marauder KATE PRYDE to help smuggle mutants into Genosha and provides Pryde with contraband to bring back to the Summers camp. Frost may not be willing to give up her cushy new life, but she does love her people. She wants to see them thrive in all dimensions, not just in a utopia.
ERIK LEHNSHERR – long live the King. ERIK LEHNSHERR, known now as KING MAGNUS, began in the domain of EGYPTIA. It was during this time that he built an intense friendship with a telepath named CHARLES XAVIER. Ultimately, however, the two had different ideas on how to better mutants. Xavier wished to help the mutants of Egyptia while Lehnsherr sought to build a utopia. Bitter was the falling out between the two, and Lehnsherr escaped the domain so that he could begin his plan. Creating GENOSHA was a long and laborious task that took everything he had. Lehnsherr had left behind three young children in Egyptia, WANDA, PIETRO and LORNA MAGNUS. As soon as Genosha was complete he returned to his original domain to collect them and their mother, MAGDA, but they had been set upon by Hounds and Magda had been killed. Saving his children, Lehnsherr brought them with him to his new kingdom and promptly established them as the Royal Family. Taking on the name King Magnus of the Monarchy of M, Magnus ruled Genosha with an iron fist. He’s done what he’s needed to for his people, and that included building Sentinel Stretch between Genosha and Egyptia to stop refugees from coming through. His anger at Xavier never faded, even after hearing about his former friend’s death. He will do whatever it takes to bring glory and honor to the Monarchy of M, no matter how unpopular it makes him. The Monarchy of M will stand the test of time, and Genosha will forever remain a Utopia.
EVA BELL – part of KING MAGNUS’ plan to create a utopia was contingent on the efforts of five mutants he employed as his Royal Guard, one of them being a young mutant known as EVA BELL. Bell, with her ability to control time and travel through it, was recruited onto the FIVE and vowed to serve the Monarchy of M. While all know of the Five, what few know is that King Magnus pushed them to experiment with their powers until they came up with a system that allowed them to successfully resurrect mutants using their combined gifts and the mental scans delivered by the King’s advisor, EMMA FROST. Although most of her work is done in secret, Bell is happy to be doing something so vital for the domain. She has a gift, it feels wrong to not use it.
HOPE SUMMERS – always somewhat of an enigma, HOPE SUMMERS was the first baby to be born in Genosha even though her parents could never be identified. Left alone, the child was brought in by the Monarchy of M due to her unique ability to mimic mutations. Raised to be a soldier in the Guard, she was selected to participate in the FIVE by KING MAGNUS himself. Some wonder if Summers has any connection to the Summers Camp in Egyptia, but no official connection has ever been made. A hardened child soldier, Summers works to resurrect those who have died in the domain that raised her. She knows she’s unique in her abilities and skilled at what she does. One day, she’ll use that as leverage to ask for more. Today, she’s a soldier following instructions.
LAURIE COLLINS – second generation mutants are not uncommon in Genosha, and LAURIE COLLINS is just that. Her father was a criminal who used his pheromone powers to con people, but he ultimately ended up in the Pit for his actions. Determined to be nothing like her father, Collin’s enlisted in the Monarchy’s Mutant Corps and was assigned to interrogation assignments. Using her pheromones to make people talk, Collins is good at what she does and finds that she has a purpose worth living for. At the very least, she’s nothing like her father.
LORNA MAGNUS – the result of an accidental conception, Princess LORNA MAGNUS was the third born child of KING MAGNUS after the twins WANDA and PIETRO MAGNUS. She was left with her siblings and mother, MAGDA, while her father went to build Genosha. Upon its completion, the five year old Magnus was brought to her new home and made a Princess in the Royal Family. As the baby who didn’t have to worry about preparing herself for the throne, Magnus was often left to her own devices over the next twenty years and would often run wild. Between covering up whatever small fire Magnus created and her sister’s mental stability, the palace always had their hands full. Despite her recklessness, King Magnus always had a soft spot for his youngest child who shared the same mutation as him. As a result, she’s known to be coddled and often able to do as she pleases. Still, Magnus finds herself bored of her luxurious life. She knows there’s upset in the world outside of Genosha’s border, but she’s always been sheltered by her privilege. All Magnus needs is the right person to help her open the door to learning more.
RAVEN DARKHOLME – shapeshifters like RAVEN DARKHOLME are dangerous in a place like Genosha unless they’re watched under a careful eye. Knowing what she was capable of, KING MAGNUS asked Darkholme to be his eyes and ears to use her abilities to keep track of the domain. Darkholme agreed as long as there was a safe place guaranteed for her wife, the precog IRENE ADLER; King Magnus then employed Adler as well and used her visions to stay on top of the game. With permission, Darkholme was allowed to leave Genosha and travel the domains as long as she reported back to the King with what she saw. Her overall care for Genosha remained low, but she did like the freedom her position gave her. Darkholme hears of upset in the other domains because she hears all. She’s keeping an ear to the ground so she’ll know when to make her next move. She’s shifty, after all. That’s just her way.
STEPFORD CUCKOOS – although they would lobotomize anyone who found out, the STEPFORD CUCKOOS actually got their start in NATHANIEL ESSEX’S Sinister Labs in EGYPTIA when he cloned EMMA FROST without her consent. Grown at an accelerated rate, the Five sisters – Celeste, Esme, Irma, Phoebe and Sophie – were presented to the Summers Camp before KATHERINE PRYDE smuggled them to Genosha. Although shocked, Frost agreed to take the girls on as her daughters and the telepaths in the domain did a mind sweep to make everyone think they had always lived there. They began to work under Frost as junior advisors to the King, but the Stepford Cuckoos are craftier than others believe. They know that Frost has been helping the Marauders smuggle mutants and contraband, and they’re sitting on that information in case they want to out their mother one day and take her place. Frost may be the White Queen, but heavy is the head that wears the crown. It’s much more suited for five heads than it is for one.
WANDA MAGNUS – reality is fragile, and no one knows that better than WANDA MAGNUS. People know that she is the second child of KING MAGNUS after her twin brother PIETRO MAGNUS and that she was brought to Genosha to be a part of the Monarchy of M at only ten years old. In the next twenty years she went on to marry the synthezoid the VISION after meeting him in DOOMSTADT at a Battleworld Council Meeting, and the two had twin sons named BILLY and TOMMY MAGNUS. Although her life is perfect from the outside, it’s long been suspected that Magnus is prone to fits of insanity and magical outburst. The truth of the matter is that Magnus is far from insane, and her last name isn’t actually Magnus. It’s MAXIMOFF. Wanda Maximoff hailed from Earth-199999 and made a name for herself as an Avenger who went by the moniker the Scarlet Witch. After being corrupted by the Darkhold, Maximoff was believed to be dead. After the Incursion, Maximoff opened her eyes in Battleworld and knew something was wrong. Her mind fractured to a certain degree with conflicting thoughts of reality and Battleworld. In the eight years that’s passed since she woke up in Genosha, Maximoff has done her best to be happy. She finally has her boys, her brother and her husband back. The thrumming of reality being wronged is just impossible to ignore, though. It’s become even harder as others who can see the deceit have come to her seeking answers. Wanda knows her reality based powers could be of use here, but she’s not willing to give up her second chance with her family. She just can’t endure any more loss.
XI’AN COY MANH – raised in the Mutant Liberation Camps, XI’AN COY MANH was recruited to the Monarchy’s Mutant Corps. She worked both as a telepath for interrogation and on the ground, using her powers of possession to keep people in line. For the most part, the work feels empty. Manh doesn’t like possessing people but has no choice. Some don’t get to pick the role they’re cast into. They just have to go along with it and do their best.
