U - Understand the Issue. Gain a basic understanding of the situation without the bias of emotional non facts. (Ex: Oh, this is an argument about freedom of expression and where to draw that line.)

I - Interact. Interact with the issue civily with well meaning and professional acting people who can present the issue in a way that is unbiased. This is often required, as either side may describe themself wildly different than the opposition. (Ex. Guest 1: resegragating ourselves is necessary to return to a world pre-colonialization, racism is already too established into society for anyone to thrive. Guest 2: coming together and mixing as a culture is the only way we can avoid racism, as having no or limited contact to other cultures and races will amplify racism and exposure to other people being normal noncharicatures is a good way to eliminate a racist mindset. You: ok, thank you for your opinions everyone.)

T - Time Out. Separate yourself from external influence (go outside, take a shower, go to the store. Etc.) And contemplate YOUR place in the discussion. (Ex: bodily autonomy is important to me, because I am queer.)

U - Understand the Issue. (2) After meditating on the issue, reach an independent understanding based on your own self questioning. (Ex: People being nonbinary does not actually attack me, I shouldn't have an issue with what other people identify as, even if I do not have the experience myself.)

P - Prepare for Future Change. Your opinion may not always stay where it is now after careful understanding. Do not make major life changes in ways that could backfire and harm you due to your belief. (Ex: Surrounding yourself with people who define the opinion as the difference between having the right to live or not, people who partake in doxxing and harassment campaigns, placing the trust of your home or funding into the hands of people who only value you as a member of a opinion community.)

i love being able to separate ships i like and characters i think it would be fun to imagine kissing from the most realistic and true to the characters interpretation. i simply don't think that the ships i enjoy should always be canon and in fact sometimes appreciate them more as unrequited in canon
