DARK KNIGHT 70: DIALOGUE COMPARISON [ENG/JP]
It seems like it's impossible to find a full transcript of the Dark Knight dialogue past Level 50 on most websites. So I took it upon myself to save the options available after my latest playthrough on an alt.
And then, for extra fun, I asked a friend to translate the post-duty cutscene so I could compare it to the English version. :D Here's both (cut to avoid spoiling those who haven't played through):
DARK KNIGHT 70 ENGLISH POST-DUTY DIALOGUE
Myste: Forgive me, forgive me... I ask, I beg, I pray, but it never comes...
Myste: Again they go to join the multitude in the black oblivion of the abyss...
Fray: Such is our lot. Such is the fate of all who are born─to suffer and to die.
Fray: Do not seek forgiveness, for it will not ease the burden. It weighs as it should.
Myste: But what of the lost? Do they not deserve to live again?
Rielle: They do. In our hearts and our souls and our memories.
Rielle: No one likes having to say good-bye. But it's...it's a part of life. That's what makes the time we share together so precious...
Rielle: You can't obsess over the mistakes of the past, or you'll lose sight of the future. Of the people still with us, who need us more than ever.
Sidurgu: The greatest strength is born of the flame in the abyss...
Fray: Listen to my voice. Listen to our heartbeat. Listen...
I forgive you. I forgive you. I forgive you...
Myste: Thank you. That is...that is all I ever wanted...
Myste: So...this is it. One last parting. One final farewell...after a fashion.
Myste: In your darkest hour, in the blackest night...think of me...and I will be with you. Always. For where else could I go? Who else could I love but you?
* DARK KNIGHT 70 JAPANESE POST-DUTY DIALOGUE
Myste: Everyone... I'm sorry... I'm really sorry...
Myste: All I wanted was to... be together with you, forever...
Myste: Aah...
Myste: Parting is so lonely, after all...
Fray: ... Indeed.
Fray: It's very painful, and very sad.
Fray: The weight of that suffering - if you can't bear it, it can stop you in your tracks.
Fray: But one day, in spite of it all...
Fray: You'll find your footsteps becoming light once again.
Myste: Because... you forget the ones who left -- who disappeared...?
Rielle: ... That can't be right.
Rielle: I'd surely remember a painful goodbye for the rest of my life.
Rielle: But even if I was hurt over the course of that parting,
people can learn to love* again.
Rielle: I'd take their hands, stand up, and walk forward.
Rielle: The memories of the one I'd lost, the feelings they gave me - I'd bring them all to the future awaiting me...!
Sidurgu: The strength to accept this pain, and keep looking ahead...
Sidurgu: I'm sure you've felt it.
Fray: ... That you acknowledged your feelings was a fair miracle to me.
Fray: You simply need to think a little more about the way you do so.
Fray: "Love," wasn't it? To pair your dark knights with such an ideal...
Myste: .... Mm.
Myste: I've always, always loved them... been proud of them...
Myste: I'm sorry... for troubling you.
Myste: I think your aether should be all but returned, but... in the end, if you could accept my thoughts and feelings as well... I'd be happy.
Myste: That I was born from an aloof, independent hero.
Myste: That I rejected sadness, and fled from parting.
Myste: ... Please, take these things, too.
TL Notes:
* the wording used is closer to falling in love by my reckoning
- without context on anything happening in the DRK quest it's a little rough BUT this is how i translated it... i'm sure their speech patterns aren't right bc i haven't met any of these guys FJDSLKF
- it seems like the english localization tries to play down fray's individuality and caring for the wol?? that's my impression
