Sonic the Hedgehog in Super Smash Bros. Ideas

It's no secret that Sonic is very undercooked in Smash, most likely as a jab at his undercooked games being released. I have several ideas for techniques and a new play style that feels more in line with Sonic's world, style, and most important, attitude.

Let's get to the nitty-gritty

Moveset Change List

Here's my general idea list. I'll go into more detail later

His Neutral A and Tilts will remain the same, except his Side Tilt, which will be his Somersault from Adventure 2. You can even get to the Slide just like in SA2.

Up Smash- Sonic Updraft: Upper Attack from Sonic Battle

Down Smash- Sonic Flare: Heavy Attack from Battle, buffed slightly to attack opponents behind you

Side Smash- Strong Side Kick from Sonic the Fighters

N-Air- Insta-Shield from Sonic 3 and Knuckles and Sonic Advance

D-Air- Axe Kick from Sonic Battle

F-Air-Sonic Windmill: Dash Attack from Battle

Back Air- Backflip Dodge from Advance 2

Up Air- Upper Dash from Advance 3

Grapples- Pummel and Down Throw stay. Back Throw could be more like Pikachu's. Up Throw is like his old Back Throw, just throwing upward and without moving back. Forward is rolling forward and throwing his opponent with the motion.

Dash Attack- Rolling like the Genesis games

Neutral Special- Homing Attack, but more like Adventure's. Much faster and spammable, but not much damage

Down Special- Spin Dash: either hold the button for the Side variant or mash for the Down variant, but faster and harder to control

Up Special- Spring Launch: Charges a Spring from Yellow to Red, you aim what direction you want, and you launch in that direction. Can also taunt during this for Air Tricks.

Side Special- Super Peel-Out: Sonic will rev in place and will take off, causing minor damage to opponents. Controls similar to Wario's Bike or the Spin Dash and can be canceled out of.

Wait...why bother with this? Dashing is a thing in Smash Bros. Why bother with a Peel-Out? Because a big nerf here?

Sonic won't be able to Dash normally!

Sonic Speed Meter

Think about it. If Sonic IS the fastest in the game, isn't it kinda harsh to let him have his speed on a whim, especially since he was never able to just access his speed immediately in game? See where I'm going?

The Speed Meter will give that old school feeling of earning your speed.

As Sonic keeps moving in a stage, he'll get faster and faster, going from a light jog up to his usual sprint with his arms behind his back (no Figure-8, since that's the Peel-Out). Even so, this will only fill his Speed Meter very temporarily, barely allowing maximum capitalization without constant motion. How do we fill the rest? Air Tricks and Combo Attacks! Air Tricks are just like in games like Rush or Generations, but you only get one trick per Spring Launch. What about Combos? Well...

Sonic's Combo Potential

Here's where it gets interesting. Sonic's speed basically screams out to me that he should be a rushdown, low damage with high hit count style fighter. Sonic's Speed Meter will also come with a Combo Counter like in Generations, but it functions like a Hit Counter in any Fighting game. The higher your Combo, the more Speed you'll earn. This is where Sonic's Homing Attack comes in very handy.

Homing Attack and Air Game

There's a reason I kept the move spammable. This will be integral to Sonic's new and improved air game. Get an opponent up into the air slightly and use a Homing Attack. Depending on where you hit, your opponent will go, slightly. You'll bounce off and you can hit them again. This is only used 3 times until you hit the ground again, to avoid overuse. Sonic will also become more mobile in the air. His F-Air will have him move more forward, hitting the opponent upwards of 3 times. His Back Air acts as a split second Air Dodge, but can only be used to move once, like a regular Air Dodge. It has less I-Frames, but has a hidden Spike if you hit your opponent just right with the feet. D-Air will have a slight stepstool effect, bouncing you off your opponent. N-Air can be slightly charged up depending on your Meter (a slight callback to how Sonic's Spin Jump goes faster as he runs faster) and causes more damage. It also hits multiple times. The Up Air can act as a slight 3rd Jump, but only once in mid-air and cannot be used for the extra height after a Spring Launch. When your Combo ends, you'll see a Technique Point message like in Adventure 2, and you'll earn Speed accordingly.

Speed Meter Details and Sonic Boost Mode

A big part of the Speed Meter is that as Sonic gains speed, his attacks will earn more priority. Sonic can still cause damage at a standstill, but he'd be able to be clashed or overpowered by anything, having less priority than Mario's Fireball. At Sonic's top speed (75% Meter) he could roll right through most projectiles and stop enemies in their tracks.

Rolling, Spin Dashing, and Peel-Outs affect the Momentum/Boost Meter differently. Using the Roll Attack will decrease your Meter until your Roll ends, just like the Classics, and LIKE the Classics, Sonic could earn MORE speed rolling down slopes. Same with Spin Dashing and Peel-Outs, though if an opponent hits you out of it, you retain the Meter, so there's a risk vs reward element to this.

While earning Speed seems simple, maintaining it is another matter. If Sonic takes heavy damage, he'll lose a large chunk of Meter. Standing still for too long will make the Meter reduce at a gradually increasing rate. It's imperative that you keep Sonic moving, fighting, or showing off, as Taunts also slightly fill the Meter, but not too many (if you ever played Def Jam Vendetta, it's like their Momentum Meter and gaining less for repetitive taunts and moves)

Once the Speed Meter is full, Sonic will enter Sonic Boost Mode! Similar to Joker and Arsene (but not as cheap, considering there's more strategy than just two moves), Sonic will have new techniques, his power will increase, and his Combo potential can further be increased, along with knockout moves being more prevalent! Your attacks also have nearly unbreakable priority, as only heavies will beat your moves, and some attacks can break through defenses. This will end after you are knocked out, you take more than 100% damage while in Boost Mode, you hit nothing for 10 seconds, you taunt too many times during, or it will end normally after around 1 minute. If the match is 1 on 1, Boost Mode will end after you knock out your opponent with a 25% refill. Let's go over the changes to the normal moves.

Boost Mode Moveset

Side Smash- Boost Drop Kick: Sonic will leap forward at an opponent and use his built up speed to drop kick them with insane force. If you hit someone at all (even if they shield or parry) you'll bounce off of them and you can begin racking up some Air Combos. If you miss completely, Sonic will fall to the ground and end Boost Mode. Mildly telegraphed if farther away (the move covers the length of half of the bottom platform of Battlefield), but less so up close.

N-Air- more wind gusts out increasing it's range

F-Air- Changes to the Spin Trick from Advance 2 and 3

D-Air- Axe Kick is now a Meteor Smash

Up Air- higher dash and causes multiple hits

Homing Attack: More range

Dash Attack: can follow up a Roll with a jumping attack. Good for following up combos

Side Special- Boost Attack. Faster than Peel-Out and harder to turn around with, but much more powerful and has knockout potential. Does not drain Boost Mode (think Sonic Rush)

Up Special- Spring Launch now includes an attack

Spin Dash is faster as well. Also will replace the Spin Charge sound with the Light Speed Dash Charge sound.

Sonic will have 2 Final Smashes, one in and out of Boost Mode.

Normal Final Smash: Light Speed Attack

A cinematic Final Smash (spoilers, they both are) activated with Sonic throwing a line of Rings onto the stage and Light Dashing through them SA2 style. His opponents caught in the line will be sent to the Team Blast style screen from Heroes. Sonic will rev up a Light Speed Attack and blast all around the screen, causing major damage, sort of like a Maximum Spider from MvC3

Final Smash Boost Mode: Super Sonic

Yes, Super Sonic will be his Boost Mode Final Smash. This will again be cinematic, but will surround him, rather than be in a line. The Chaos Emeralds will surround him and form the barrier his opponents would be caught in (I'm thinking...slightly larger than the space under a lower Battlefield platform) with Sonic using Chaos Control. This is where Super Sonic will emerge and send his opponents hurdling through space ramming into them like in Doomsday Zone, ending with a Spin Dash back down to Earth.

More Voice Lines

Say what you will, but Sonic really should be spouting more one liners during battle. Goes with his showboating personality and cocky attitude. Not to an insufferable degree, but just enough to be annoying. That's how he rolls (no pun intended).

Outside of touching up his model to have actual effort put in and actually getting Roger Craig Smith to do new voice clips instead of reusing stuff, that's all I got for Sonic as a fighter.

Hello, I am trying to arrange vehicle insurance. I have contacted A&L with regards to their car insurance. Basically I have just changed jobs, where I had company cars for the last 6 years with no claims. I asked A&L if they would accept this as no claims, and they said they would if I could provide a letter from my previous employers stating dates, that I was sole user, that I no longer have policy and that it expires within last 3 months etc. I have provided them with the letter which covers all areas requested. Rear Ended - Can I demand insurance?

I was in an accident last month in my brand new Volvo (not even a month old!). I was rear-ended, while I was at a stop sign. Damage is to the rear bumper, pretty bad, looks horrible...especially for a new car! No one was hurt, just shaken! We did not immediately file a police report. We exchanged information, and the the person who hit me told me that they would pay for my repairs out of pocket, and that they didn't want to get the police or insurance involved. We conversed on the phone for a few days, and they seemed like everything was going great, and I was supposed to meet them at their friends auto body shop for the repairs...long story short...they never showed. Bad part now is, I never got their insurance information, just license plate, DL, addresses(basically everything BUT insurance). That same day, I went to the police station and filed a delayed police report. Later that week, I went and got 3 different estimates, and the damage averages out to about $900. I contacted a friend of mine, who is a police officer, and they stated that I can issue a summons to the person who hit me for careless driving, and I will have to go to court. This is basically to show them that I'm not messing around. All I want is my BRAND NEW car fixed!!! I'm NOT going through my insurance because my deductible is $1,000, and the damage is less...not only that...it wasn't my fault! My insurance company advised me to have person who hit me's insurance take care of everything, at no cost to me. Here's what I need to find out...Can I send the person a demand letter, basically stating that I want them to have their insurance take care of everything? I have tried to call them, and they send me to voice mail, so reasoning is not an option any more. I don't really know how to go about this?! I want to try this on my own, and not get an attorney involved. I just want to tell them that if they fix my car, I will drop summons and further proceedings (like small-claims court, which I WILL sue for additional $$ for dealing with all this). Am I being cheated by the car insurance company?

I was on a bike and I accidentally hit someone's car and broke the back windshield. Nothing else on the car is damaged except windshield. Later the car owner's car insurance company (state farm) send me a payment of $1700, and they have a subrogation service (Afni) to collect payment. First of all, I believe it DOES NOT cost $1700 to replace a back windshield, like I mentioned, nothing else was damage except the windshield on the back. How is this amount calculated? The subrogation service has been pressuring me to pay the amount. I will pay for the damage but I don't believe I have to pay this much. Could this be the owner of the car falsify the claim? Buying Car - Insurance Question?

I'm buying a Z-28 Camaro, and I have encountered a problem. I was told when I register it (which I have to apparently) that I have to insure it. I plan on leaving the car just setting in my yard. Why I’d still buy Standard Chartered plc despite mixed Q3 results

Shares of Asia-focused bank Standard Chartered (LSE: STAN) fell by as much as 6% this morning, after the third-quarter results missed analysts’ forecasts.

Despite this, I believe that today’s figures still contained a lot of good news. In this piece I’ll look at the highlights from today’s results, and consider the potential challenges facing the bank. I’ll explain why I think the shares are still cheap enough to offer decent upside potential.

Good news

Although it may be slower than hoped for, Standard Chartered’s recovery certainly seems to be under way.

Underlying pre-tax profit for the third quarter was $814m, 78% higher than during the same period last year. There were also signs that the credit quality of the bank’s customers is improving. Loan impairments during Q3 totalled $348m, 42% lower than in Q3 2016.

Total income for the period was $3.6bn, 4% higher than last year. Meanwhile net lending has risen by 3% to $277bn since the end of June.

Not such good news

The drive to reduce costs hit a speed hump during the third quarter. Total expenses rose by 4% to $2.5bn. Management said that this is a result of “accelerated investments in areas of competitive differentiation” plus the cost of stronger controls and processes.

Measured over the full year, regulatory expenses are expected to be “slightly higher”, while other expenses are expected to be broadly flat.

Another potential concern is that growth in the group’s largest division — Corporate & Institutional Banking — remains slow, at just 2% so far this year. There’s a risk that the firm could start to lose market share in its core business.

Looking ahead

Standard Chartered shares have risen by 50% from their 2015 rights issue price of 465p. But at 700p, the stock still trades 30% below its last-reported net asset value of $13.56 per share (about 1,020p).

The question for shareholders — including me — is whether chief executive Bill Winters can improve the profitability of the company’s operations enough to justify a higher valuation.

The main measure of banking profitability is return on equity. The firm didn’t provide an update on this today, but the half-year results in August showed that underlying return on shareholders’ equity rose to 5.2% during the first half, from 2.1% during the same period of 2016.

So 5.2% is still too low, but the rate of increase here is encouraging. Given the improvement in pre-tax profits seen during the third quarter, my view is that it makes sense to continue holding Standard Chartered for the full year in the hope that return on equity will continue to rise. That’s certainly what I intend to do.

Dividend hopes

Broker consensus forecasts suggest the board may decide to restart dividend payouts this year, after suspending them in 2015. Analysts have pencilled in a final dividend of $0.14 per share, giving a prospective yield of 1.5%.

I’m not sure how likely a payout is for 2017, but I do believe we can be more confident of a payout in 2018. Analysts are forecasting a payout of $0.33 per share for next year, equivalent to a yield of 3.5%.

In my view that’s worth holding on for, given the potential for long-term growth.

Scams, subscriptions and chat bots: How one German fauxporn Youtube star tricks her fans

Videos boasting risqué titles, thumbnails teasing gobs of bare skin and steamy sexual indiscretions—all of which end up being more hot air than hot stuff.

Katja Krasavice has teased, baited and badgered her way to a huge fan base: 800,000 Youtube subscribers and 200 million views. The aspiring sex star has milked the shady practice for everything it’s got—and moved to other platforms in increasingly dubious ways.

Three years ago today, Katja Krasavice launched her Youtube account and first made her way in the German digital consciousness. She has since filled it with 133 videos, all of which follow a very similar MO: go heavy on the sexual innuendo, use thumbnails that double down on the double Ds and insert titles that get a rise in expectations. For example, there is “NACHTS Allein Zuhause (Home ALONE at night!) | Katja Krasavice”—a 4-minute clip about how she likes to unwind after a hard night of partying. Five million people have tuned in to keep her company. Another 4.5 million people watched Katja in “PETTING with Lucycat! 😛 | Katja Krasavice.” Even if the content turns out to be disappointing for viewers, the click rates show just how effective the teasers can be.

Leveraging lusting fantasies

She polarizes and provokes, teasing her viewers and stroking their sexual fantasies—a proven recipe for success. In addition to successfully producing her brand of content, Katja Krasavice also engages in cross promotion and does a host of guest appearances. Two years ago, she made an appearance with Aaron Troschke, the CEO of influencer marketing platform Reachhero and former candidate on Who Wants to be a Millionaire with his own organic reach. The video shows the pair dildo shopping; a couple of months later they shot part two. Then in early 2016, she made an appearance on a German Youtuber’s channel. Seen simulating oral sex, and then engaging in cheap pillow talk about said opening scene, the clip has generated 4 million impressions, and also plugs the link to the opening scene in its unedited full length.

In spite of her massive reach, it’s impossible not to notice that her videos do not use any of Youtube’s available marketing options. There are no video or display ads embedded in her clips—which is probably not by design. Since Youtube adopted stricter advertising guidelines in September 2016, Krasavice’s content was no longer deemed ad-friendly. That meant she had to scope out other ways and channels to monetize her reach, like live-stream portal YouNow. Katja Krasavice has been active on the portal since March of 2015, totaling 18 million views in the process.  Here, users can purchase ‘Bars’ that they can then donate to their favorite streamers. Especially successful YouNow stars are rumored to net revenue in the six-figure range.

15 euro a month for what? A pair of “hot” snaps.

Her success is hardly limited to Youtube and YouNow. With 928,000 subscribers on Instagram and 185,000 fans on Facebook, Krasavice’s popularity has spread to every major platform. She even has 56,000 followers on twitter —pretty good for a twitter desert like Germany. Snapchat (katjakrasavice) is no different. Although follower figures are not publicized, she seems to be killing it by offering paid content.

On her second account (krasaviceprivat) she recently began publishing “exclusive snaps,” as she teases on Snapchat and on other channels. Her less-than-subtle teases can be worded as “I get so w*t when I look at all these naughty girls.”

What does any of that have to do with paid content? That’s easy: the supposed hotter, more x-rated Snaps can only be seen by fans who take out a 30-day subscription for €14.99.

Standing to profit from the subscription is not Snapchat itself, but an entity named Centro Publishers Limited from the British Virgin Islands. There are dozens of mostly female “Premium SnapCentro Influencers” listed on the domain snapcentro.de. They are sorted by name or category, including general descriptions like athlete or blogger, or the more specialized descriptors like erotic model, exotic dancer, nude model or porn star.

If you search for the names of the “premium influencers” directly, the first search results lead you to the corresponding porn site. Krasavice also pops up on the list. She describes her account as a place where “you can see all the hottest snaps no longer allowed on my public account. Here, I’ll answer everyone and even send a couple of naughty snaps in a private chat. Come to my hot Snap zone not everyone can see.” She also ads that “if you are a member, I’ll do just about anything you want.”

Ok, so what content can a successful female youtube star charge money for exactly on Snapchat? To answer that we decided to misappropriate company funds and subscribe to the pay service. What won’t we do for science…

Soft-core porno for dummies

Signing up is pretty standard: enter our Snapchat user name and email address, and then confirm that we are, in fact, of age, and that we are aware that snapcentro.de is unaffiliated with Snapchat. Information on our person entered and confirmed, it’s time to pay up either via credit card or direct bank transfer—both of which go to a Cyprian company called  CentroBill (Cyprus) Limited.

The founder of both companies, snapcentro.de and CentroBill, plus the affiliated porn hub adultcentro and an affiliate influencer platform modelcentro, is a fella by the name of Stan Fishkin. On Twitter, he’s just a man named “standaman69,” posing in front of a Ferrari. A real salt of the earth type guy.

If you’re still in need of convincing, a cursory Google search for “centrobill warning” reveals that neither he nor his company are the most scrupulous of enterprises. After completing the payment process, a landing page tells us just how we can follow Katja Krasavice’s private account.

Basically, she’ll start following us after our payment, including our user name, has been confirmed. We are then granted access to her premium snaps for the duration of our subscription.

If you were thinking that the €15 monthly subscription would get you access to some serious nude content (as the teasers on Snapchat, Instragram, etc. would lead one to believe), we’ve got some bad news: The Snaps from the private account merely featured the scantily clad Krasavice and never in the buff. In fact, there is hardly any difference between the private and public Snapchat account that would justify any of her fans to pony up for the pay version.

Despite promises to the contrary, content is not available round the clock on the premium account. Shortly after we completed our subscription, Krasavice posted a content schedule. She said that while she “takes hot snaps every day,” sometimes she won’t post because “she wants to enjoy her life” or because “she’s only human” or because “she’s got the sniffles.” Or because it’s Monday—her day off. We’ve also not yet received an answer to our private message despite the promise of a “super hot chat.” Disappointment for €15 a month.

Just how many of her followers on Snapchat, Youtube subscribers or fans on other platforms have paid for Krasavice’s private Snapchat account, is unclear. However, because she followed us as a premium subscriber, we can see how many private snaps she has posted: 426.

Genuine testimonials or an army of bots?

The premium Snapchat subscription isn’t Katja’s only dubious source of income. In a video marked as product placement dated February 14, 2017, Krasavice can be seen plugging a flirt app and stating that she’s got a “really hot profile with private pics,” which you of course can only see once you’ve installed the app and signed up. She’s also giving away her private cell number, a video of her pleasuring herself with a heart-shaped sucker (the “goods” are blurred in the short teaser) and a private date, “maybe even with a happy ending.”

All you have to do to enter the sweepstakes is install the app and sign up (“guaranteed for free”) and then send Krasavice a message. In the Youtube video she promises that the first couple of messages are free and that “if you are really interested in me, then you’ll do it. I also really want to get to know people.” At the same time on Snapchat she says, “Writing me there costs hearts, which cost money.” On which platform and when she intends to announce the winner, she doesn’t say. Maybe on Instagram or Snapchat, but she’s not exactly sure when. “But I will definitely do it, so be sure to follow me.”

Although the giveaway is over and done with, we still wanted to have a go on the flirt app Katja was plugging.

Through the katja-hautnah.de domain, we are redirected to landing page for  an app called Yoomee. The page, mostly in German, proclaims that “Yoomee presents Katja Krasavice,” that “YouTube star Katja Krasavice is waiting for you” and promises we can “experience Katja up close.” Right after creating an account in a fake name and without a profile pic or any interests, Krasavice, err “Krasavice,” checks out our profile. We only have to wait a couple of minutes, before she sends us her first message: “Happy you’re here. How do you like my pics?” We’d love to answer, but we have to first buy some hearts for €6.99.

Our spidey sense is now tingling. Could there be an automated system in play here, exploiting Krasavice’s Youtube reach to pull users into the app and convert them into paying customers via fake messages?

To check—because, hey, science—we create another account. Shortly after our account is live, here comes “Krasavice” again, checking out our completely bare profile and then soon after writes the exact same message, down to a T.  In the meantime, our first account has received some more action—three direct messages within 90 minutes: “Hey, feel like writing?,” “Which do you prefer? Day or Night” and “Have you been around here for a while?”

Katja’s flirt with Yoomee sees a sharp increase in app downloads

The app landing page lists Mobil Trend GmbH as the proprietor of Yoomee, which lists Christoph Matthiesen and Jannis Kiesow as CEOs. Mobil Trend’s director of sales, Benjamin Marquardt, responded to our request for comment. He told us about the campaign with Krasavice, saying that they “happened upon Katja by chance and booked her through her management. The collaboration runs through April 14.”

In reference to the misleading claims in the Youtube video, especially the free messages, he says that “was indeed somewhat unfortunate and it was briefed otherwise. We only saw the video shortly prior to publication, otherwise we probably would not have accepted it in that form.” In spite of that, he said that there are also ways to acquire hearts without paying and thus send her messages for free.

However, he did say it was part of the business model that users are not made aware of that immediately. “Obviously, we want to make money with the app. Competition is intense and monetizing users is becoming increasingly difficult. Still, we allocated free hearts to disappointed users so that they could have a chance to chat,” says Marquardt. In the app’s general terms and conditions it says that: “Yoomee engages professional animators and operators to animate and entertain, who are not labelled as such by the system. A real-life meeting with such individuals is prohibited. Users may only send messages within the portal.”

App-stat tool Priori Data recorded a major surge in Yoomee downloads after Krasavice’s video appeared—to the tune of 20,000 downloads from Google’s Play Store and 10,000 in the Apple App Store within a week. The surge didn’t last. “Two weeks after the campaign start, we had downloads in the mid-five-figure range. A return to the mean is completely normal. All things considered, the campaign was a success. Even if Krasavice is not the cheapest testimonial, we recouped our costs,” says Benjamin Marquardt.

According to him, however, the –acquisition of user data is more important as it will be used to further develop the product. “The app had only launched a couple of weeks before the video went live, and would never have been able to collect that much data in that time frame otherwise.” He added that the team is “now looking for more reasonably priced influencers.”

Is Katja swapping Youtube for Youporn?

The line Krasavice toes between provocative entertainment and full-blown pornography requiring age restrictions continues to tighten. She regularly mentions how she loves being on camera, but isn’t sure if she’s ready to do everything publicly. One sign that she may be entering pornoville is a recent cooperation with erotic portal fundorado.com. In a Youtube video from February 1, 2017, Krasavice mentions an “extremely hot private video” making the rounds that you can only see on katjakommt.de (katjacomes). The domain redirects to fundorado.com.

Katja Krasavice has engaged in additional paid co-ops  in the past, for example with Quizpanda and SMS service Bongo, each of which turn out to be scams (link in German). Additional income sources include a club tour that she has been plugging for months— for example with a video purportedly showing her kiss a fan—and through sales of her own perfume on katjakrasaviceshop.com.
