Sirius seafront promenade competition
6 Jul 2021
Location: Sirius, Krasnodar Krai, south western Russia
Architects from across the globe are invited to create the concept of a seafront promenade for an emerging Black Sea urban area
Sirius seafront promenade design competition
Sirius, the first federal territory in Russia, is initiating the competition for an architectural and urban planning concept of its 7,5 kilometre long seafront promenade. The open call for teams and individual candidates from Russia and beyond is launched on the Sirius competition website.
In late September the Jury will shortlist 6 participants for Phase 2, of which four teams will be experienced in similar large-scale projects and two are emerging / early career / not yet established professionals. This way, architects of the next generation will be able to take part in the contest along with acclaimed offices.
The winner and the finalists will be announced in early December 2021. The prize money amount is 26 million rubles.
The candidates will design a concept for a multifunctional urban space for people from all walks of life, from seamen to artists, and envisage an infrastructure for international or national cultural, sportive and educational events – festivals, concerts, exhibitions, and public talks by artists or popular scientists. Softscaping and wind protection solutions are expected to create an all-season environment comfortable for people of every age, from infants to seniors.
The seafront must become an iconic landmark for Sirius – the city of the 2014 Winter Olympics and the Sirius educational center for gifted students from all over Russia. A distinctive skyline with curated panoramic viewpoints and easy access to sea must transform the place into a vibrant world-wide attraction.
***
The open international competition for the architectural and urban development concept for the embankment for the first federal territory in Russia ‘Sirius’ was organized by VEB.RF and the Center for Urban Studies of the Sirius University of Science and Technology. The winning fund of the competition amounts to 26 million rubles excluding VAT.
Russian and international architects and landscape designers are invited to participate. There is also a quota for young professionals. The aim of the competition is to develop concepts for the embankment which has 7.5 km of coastline between Mzymta and Psou rivers. The results will be announced in December 2021. Interview with BTN: Sergey Khvorostyany, deputy director general for foreign affairs, Rosa Khutor
Tumblr media
Having been awarded at the World Ski Awards with a top title, Breaking Travel News here talks to Sergey Khvorostyany, Rosa Khutor's deputy general director for international relations, about how it feels to have won
Breaking Travel News: Congratulations on your World Ski Awards win, with Rosa Khutor being recognized by voters as Russia's Leading Ski Resort. How is it going to feel to have won?
Sergey Khvorostyany: I believe it's a sense of accomplishment from a job that's well done.
Traditionally, the resort hosts the Rosa Run festival in May, on one of the days in which the participants participate in the vertical kilometer discipline, running a distance of more than a kilometer with an altitude rise.
At the Mountain Olympic Village, the distance starts under the hot southern sun and finishes at the top of Rosa Hill, where there is still snow.
This needs dedication, of course, not only at a distance, but also a lot of work during competition training, which is the same.
Every day at Rosa Khutor, we aim to respond to requests from the most demanding guests from both Russia and more than 100 foreign countries.
Annually, we host around two million visitors.
You're standing at the top of Rosa Hill, seeing infinite spaces, snow-capped mountains, the Black Sea, breathing fresh mountain air, and knowing that this award gives you renewed strength for your next win.
BTN: The resort has taken the title for the eighth year in succession. What is it that makes it so unique in the eyes of the ski tourism community?
SK: I think we should start with the resort's mission to address this question: to create a comfortable and safe space for leisure, sports and a healthy lifestyle in a unique location in Russia - Rosa Khutor.
We are Russia's only resort working under a Sustainable Development Policy covering seven main areas of work: special experiences, conservation of nature, energy production, waste management, collaboration and cooperation, historical heritage and future generation treatment.
The resort is continuously exhibiting creative approaches and setting the standard for the growth of Russia's entire ski tourism industry, offering an exceptional example of the successful use of the Olympic legacy.
Despite this year's difficulties, we were able to give our guests new hiking trails, the first passenger mountain helicopter center in Russia was opened, and the first German hiking business weekend was held.
In addition, a very significant gathering, the Third International Sustainable Tourism Conference: Global Challenges and the Russian Perspective, took place.
We will entertain our guests with the new D-line Doppelmayer cable car with cabins for ten passengers and a maximum capacity of 2,400 people per hour during the coming winter season in December.
This will make it more convenient to ski at the resort.
Make sure they're coming! I am sure you can feel the resort's incredible atmosphere and want to go back to this wonderful location.
Tumblr media
BTN: How helpful are the World Ski Awards when it comes to supporting the ski tourism market for Rosa Khutor?
SK: It's very important for me to provide information about the resort, its strategic opportunities, principles and goals quickly and efficiently.
The award is one of the most productive ways of forming relationships with different players in the industry, such as industry professionals, resorts, sports clubs, hoteliers and tourism companies.
The World Ski Awards are a quality mark that shows that the resort is continually changing, offering new offerings to visitors and adapting to the modern world's challenges.
I am sure that the World Ski Awards are one of the defining moments when deciding on a trip to a particular place for a large number of visitors, especially foreign ones.
Winning this award, for instance, has helped us to deepen our relationship with Kitzbühel and a number of Austrian companies, and we have received a boost from Austrian visitors.
I want to mention that the second Austrian Business Weekend was held successfully at the resort in March.
For us, the World Ski Awards is a signature that informs hundreds of thousands of domestic and international tourism and ski industry professionals that Rosa Khutor not only meets the highest expectations, but also, as a leader, sets the strategic growth vector for Russia's entire ski tourism industry.
Another significant feature is the ReStart program, which offers business professionals the opportunity to share their work experience in challenging situations and to hear about the best examples of the development of industry leaders from all over the world.
Rosa Khutor, considered a significant aspect of our international activities, took part in this initiative, certifying the role of Rosa Khutor in the growth of the world's ski tourism industry.
The award ceremony, of course, is also a chance for me to meet my colleagues and friends.
At these sessions, I look forward to obtaining a wide supply of new information and ideas.
This is a huge honor that I sincerely thank the team at the World Ski Awards for.
Tumblr media
BTN: How will you define the atmosphere of Russian ski hospitality as we reach the 2020 season? Has a potential vaccine raised spirits for Covid-19?
SK: With an entirely global culture and global market room, this year is difficult.
This is, however, a reason to think about new goods, programs and routes for travel.
The pandemic gave everybody the chance to question their life rhythm, pause and rethink their beliefs and goals.
It is possible to use each time span favorably - good news is always welcomed at any time.
We had a strong summer season; more than 85 per cent of our hotels were filled.
In reality, we have verified the study findings that individuals simply need a reset after a long time of self-isolation.
Some have come to rest in the mountains, as it is the perfect place to refresh, restart, pay attention to fresh-air physical activity.
And in the upcoming winter season, we foresee the same condition.
For the entire season, almost all hotels are booked, even in March.
We strictly follow the authorities' guidelines for anti-epidemic initiatives, of course, and we are assured that the vaccine will be a major aid to a rapid return to normal life.
More Info
Rosa Khutor is an unforgettable location due to the synergy of the Black Sea environment and the Aibga Mountains.
Following a day of skiing and relaxation, visitors will walk down the Mzymta River promenade and watch the sunset.
There is also an opportunity to experience delicious local food, meet locals and feel our local community's energy.
On the official website, you will find out more.
