Gudvangen, Nærøyfjord, Aurlandsfjord, and Flåm
One of two fjords in Norway listed as UNESCO World Heritage Sites, Nærøyfjord is the narrowest and one of the more dramatic. I was particularly interested in how the Norwegian Fjords would compare with the ones I know well in New Zealand and ones I travelled through in Chile. They’re all similar to a degree, though the fauna differs, and there is far more infrastructure (roads, settlements,…

Malmo, Sweden
Oslo | Flam Train | Nærøyfjord & Sognefjord | Bergen | Copenhagen | Malmo, Sweden | Norway travel tips
Tumblr media
On our way back, we had an overnight layover in Copenhagen, with flight 2pm the next day. My husband learned Sweden is only a short train ride away. Too little time to make a trip, he feels.  So I asked the kids about visiting Sweden.  They both enthusiastically said yes!
The next morning at 8:30am, the kids and I got on the subway then train to Sweden.   It passes thru a long 8km bridge over the Øresund, and is quite an engineering feat.  On the easy train ride over the bridge, we saw rows of wind turbines in the water.
From Copenhagen Airport train station, it's actually only 13 mins to reach the shore of Sweden, then double that to reach the city of Malmo, the third largest city in Sweden. Malmo has a mixture of old and new, just like Copenhagen and Oslo, as well as canals around the city.
We also noticed there were a lot of sculpture and public art.
We saw Kungsparken, a big park with a fortress and a windmill, and groups of school children on field trips.
We passed by Stortorget, the main square with impressive historical buildings. In one of those, My daughter finally got a chance to check out the pharmacy, with wider variety of products than in Norway.  The weather was a bit warmer than in Copenhagen, and sunny and enjoyable.
One of the notable sights is the Turning Torso highrise, that twists as it rises, you can see it peeking through above the rooftops below.

Quickly, our hour plus of exploring came to an end, and we ran to catch the train back to Copenhagen Airport.
Learn more about Malmo at this helpful Website.
