I tried to analyze my own conlang in an X-bar kind of way to build a master model rule for grammaticality, taking in the syntax and real world non-concatenative morphology and so on and so on, and I think I discovered what most people seem to accept in that those theories don't really reflect how language actually seems to function. Or I misunderstood those theories altogether, which is entirely possible.
It seems like, of what I'd read into, something like Link Grammar is better, since "what's a head?" and "what's a dependency?" are questions that aren't necessarily answered by governance (in most Afrasian languages, for example, there's something called a "status constructus", a form nouns fall into when forming the "head" of a genitive phrase (i.e. the owned thing, the noun being modified, not the noun taking the genitive case in Latin), somewhat opposite the expected N.0 + N.gen; N.sc + N.(gen)).
But I'm also not sure because the internal structure of units that can stand alone (i.e. words) is highly circumfixing while the phrase structure is highly head-intial, and some elements are dependents that change their head, like the status constructus or the definate article (which puts a noun into an indeclinable definite state, instead of allowing it to take case; also, like German, the (definite) article takes the case for the noun, a move that means syntactic information moves around its head depending on context) (note that that phenomenon is found in Romanian but oppositely, where the definite article is suffixed and the indefinite article is a determiner).
I'm trying to wrap my head around what's conditioning what or linking to what in nonconcatenative languages like Arabic and direction changing languages like Romanian and other languages viz languages in general. Universally, what's even happening? Idk
But there seem to some situations where patterns in grammaticality branch in ways not easily captured on paper or even by machine rules (e.g. if thens), like topic fronting displaces any and all "slots" kind of startlingly.
A feature of Egyptian grammar (as in ancient Egyptian) is that certain demonstratives despite everything else in the language are postpositive (and, oddly, decline by gender by the initial consonant, not final), so directionality is maybe lexical?

finally got around to read agatha christie's "the murder of roger ackroyd" and like Man they did not lie that book really is brilliant. i liked it more than "murder on the orient express" and honestly im so surprised that i managed to avoid spoilers. i had a really solid guess about who the murderer was and the ending just made me lose my mind LOL
#me saying this is an excellent murder mystery is probably the coldest take ever but i just have to say i love it okay!!!!!#i bought the book forever ago and only got around to it now kinda embarrassing for me tbh but what can u do#n.gen
