Naeveah 2.0

I remember the blow of her fist ripped through the air with enough force to break a jaw, that is when I realized that my mentor was aiming to make sure I defended myself because she was not going to go easy. I took her wrist, used her momentum against her, and threw her over before my foot found her throat. Her satisfaction was apparent, even if she was tired, she enjoyed every moment of this.

“Again!”

I was tired, bruised, I was convinced that I had broken a bone. I fought back, I could taste the tinge of blood mingled in my sweat, I learned to use my flexibility against my opponent, to disarm them, to not kill them. That lesson was important, despite how taxing every training session was; I cursed at her that she was trying to kill me, never realizing she had it worse. My mentor was slowly dying. She had been suffering silently for some time, I wasn't aware until it was too late.

I'll never forget the day she died ..that was the day I started to truly live.

“I want you to know the weight of your blades, to know how to hide them and when to reveal them. Get to know that bow and each arrow as if they were your only salvation. These are merely tools of the trade, in case you have to use them - but never to kill. Never.”

We may be thieves, but we have morals. We value life above all.

She didn’t choose me, let me start off by stating that fact. She didn’t one day find me wandering the streets with a halo of light framing my hair. I was not some chosen one. I found her after delivering my father’s new medicine to one of his wealthy clients. I saw him (since I had no idea he was actually a she at that time) as a fleeting shadow leap and fly through the air, from rooftop to rooftop. I heard rumors about the Prince that came to aid the poor in their time of desperation.  Criminal to the corrupt, a hero to others.

Did I admire her? Of course. He didn’t need to take up the mantle and help those who were unfortunate, even after she was painted in a villainous light. I knew better, I could hear the praises of those she gave alms to, the prayers they made to thank the Gods for such a blessing, even if it meant just another night where they could eat, another night where they could sleep in warmth with the hope for a better tomorrow.

I will take the punches, each hit she throws at me, to become this person, to shape myself to this legend she created, and those who rose to the challenge before her. I will contort my body in ways I never deemed possible, I will play the part needed to advance, to become stronger, to live up to the legend. To claim this title as my own. For her, for myself, and for the people who are counting on me.

Pirate and princess (Os and Naev?)

The scarves usually hide her from a curious glance, especially back in Thavnair. But in Ul’dah, it turned a few heads when all they could see are the piercing, blue eyes, lined with kohl, not to mention the eccentric, colorful jewelry, that could be seen behind the gauzy material and along her wrists. She was alone, studying the map that had been given to her by one of the troupe members. The city itself felt like a maze, especially on her first day here. It reminds her of home, yet it was far from it.

Perhaps she wore the look of confusion easily, for she caught the attention of a man who stepped into her shadow and offered her a welcoming smile. “You’re not from here,” he states the obvious, which shatters her concentration. Memorizing the city in a day was tricky enough, without a distraction. But, she smiles behind her scarf and gives a slight nod. Her voice is not heard, but Oswyn notices the knitting of her brows, perhaps the hint of embarrassment. 

When she spoke, it was quiet, and he leaned in close to hear, though felt a touch of heat to his cheeks when he realized how close to drew to her, for his face was at level with her chest. Relief came when she leans down to address him, and together they charted a quick route to the alchemist guild. He was kind and patient with her questions, unbeknownst to him that she was going to be utilizing this information for.. less than legal motives.

“You have been most helpful, thank you. I have nothing to repay kindness with,” her common speech was accented and forced, but he chuckles and begins to wave off her compliment until he felt the brush of her scarf against his cheek and the press of her lips. it was brief, and she pulled away suddenly, giving her back to him in order to vanish into the bustling crowd. He thought little of it, but brushed his cheek and looked past his shoulder, curiously, as she departed.
