Places to Have the Best Adventure in Kenya
Kenya - the name is practically synonymous with "safari." Perhaps no other spot on the planet summons such a spirit of experience and sentiment. The decent variety of activities astonishes all who visit and review the nation's plenteous natural life beat the rundown. Being part of adventure tours in Kenya of reputed tour operators see crowds of wildebeest roaring over the savanna during the Great Migration in the Maasai Mara; come eye-to-eye with an elephant in Amboseli; or wonder about Lake Nakuru, spotted with a huge number of flamingos. In these sun-doused lands, antiquated tribes, for example, the Maasai, Kikuyu, and Samburu, hold their customary traditions, living in relative amicability with the common world.
Past the world-renowned safari parks lies a trove of beachfront treasures. You can snorkel and dive fish-rich coral reefs, unwind on silvery shorelines, experience the blend of societies and foods in Mombasa and Malindi, and explore tropical islands saturated with Swahili history.
Geographically, Kenya is staggering. Encompassed by calderas and mountain ranges, the Great Rift Valley separates the nation. Toward the east of this broad valley, you can climb the snow-shrouded tropical pinnacles of Mount Kenya and fish for trout in perfectly clear streams. Hell's Gate National Park harbors obsidian caves and murmurs with normal fountains and natural aquifers. To encounter the sentiment of Kenya's vivid colonial history caught in the film Out of Africa, head to Nairobi. This clamoring capital is the door to one of the world's most reminiscent and energizing travel goals.
Maasai Mara National Reserve Maasai Mara National Reserve likewise called "Masai Mara" is one of the world's most eminent game reserves. Flanking Tanzania, the Mara is the northern expansion of the Serengeti and structures an untamed life passageway between the two nations. The name is after the statuesque, red-shrouded Maasai individuals who live in the recreation center and graze their creatures here as they have accomplished for quite a long time. In their language, Mara signifies "mottled," maybe a reference to the play of light and shadow from the acacia trees and cloud-studded skies on the vast prairies.
The recreation center is popular for the Great Migration, when a large number of wildebeest, zebra, and Thomson's gazelle travel to and from the Serengeti, from July through October. In the Mara River, crowds of hippos and crocodiles hide. The recreation center is likewise known for giving fantastic predator sightings, because of its enormous populaces of lion, cheetah, and panther - particularly in the dry a very long time from December through February. Because of the recreation center's height, the climate here is mellow and delicate all year. The adventure tours in Kenya give you the best opportunities to enjoy and experience this amazing natural feature.
Amboseli National Reserve Crowned by Mount Kilimanjaro, Africa's most astounding pinnacle, Amboseli National Reserve is one of Kenya's most prevalent visitor parks. The name "Amboseli" originates from a Maasai word signifying "salty dust," an adept depiction for the recreation center's dry conditions. The reserve is probably the best place in Africa to see huge groups of elephants very close. Another natural life normally seen in the recreation center incorporates huge cats, for example, lion and cheetah, just as giraffe, impala, eland, waterbuck, gazelle, and in excess of 600 types of birds. Nature sweethearts can explore five unique territories here, going from the evaporated bed of Lake Amboseli, wetlands with sulfur springs, savannah, and forests. Search for the nearby Maasai individuals who live in the zone around the recreation center.
Tsavo National Park Kenya's biggest park, Tsavo, is in two parts: Tsavo West and Tsavo East. Together these parks include four percent of the nation's all-out zone and incorporate waterways, cascades, savannah, volcanic slopes, a gigantic igneous rock level, and a great assorted variety of untamed life. Halfway between Nairobi and Mombasa, Tsavo East is a place for photographing commendable sightings of huge elephant crowds rolling and washing in red dust. The palm-bordered Galana River winds through the recreation center giving astounding game view and a rich contradiction to the parched fields. Different features here incorporate the Yatta Plateau, the world's longest magma stream; Mudanda Rock; and the Lugard Falls, which spill into rapids and crocodile-filled pools.
Tsavo West is wetter and geologically progressively shifted, with probably the most delightful view in the northern ranges of the recreation center. Features here are Mzima Springs, a progression of characteristic springs with enormous populaces of hippos and crocodiles; Chaimu Crater, an incredible spot for seeing birds of prey; and Ngulia Rhino Sanctuary. Untamed life is not as simple to see in Tsavo West due to the dense vegetation, yet the wonderful landscape compensates all.
Samburu, Buffalo Springs, and Shaba National Reserves On the banks of the palm-lined Ewaso Nyiro River, Samburu, Buffalo Springs, and Shaba Reserves lie in a dry locale in the remote north of Kenya. Shaba National Reserve is one of two zones where George and Joy Adamson raised Elsa the lioness, put on the map in the film Born Free. The untamed life in each of the three stores relies upon the waters of the waterway to endure, and numerous species are uncommonly adjusted to the dry conditions, for example, Grevy's zebras; Somali ostriches; and gerenuks, the long-necked antelope that remain on two back legs to arrive at the crisp shoots on upper tree appendages.
A top fascination in Samburu National Reserve is the Sarara Singing Wells, nearby watering gaps where Samburu warriors sing customary tunes while pulling water for their cows to drink. You may likewise be compensated with sightings of enormous felines and wild hounds.
Lake Nakuru National Park Lake Nakuru National Park, in Central Kenya, is renowned for its immense herds of pink flamingos. The feathered creatures crowd on Lake Nakuru itself, one of the Rift Valley lakes that include very nearly 33% of the recreation center's region. The recreation center was set up in 1961, and in excess of 450 types of birds have been recorded here, just as a rich decent variety of other untamed life. Lions, panthers, warthogs, waterbucks, pythons, and white rhinos are only a portion of the creatures you may see, and the scenes run from clearing prairies flanking the lake to rough bluffs and forest.
The recreation center likewise secures the biggest euphorbia candelabrum backwoods in Africa. These tall, expanding succulents are endemic to the area and give an intriguing textural component to the parched scenes.
Lake Naivasha A shelter for birders, Lake Naivasha lies at the highest point of the Great Rift Valley and has been known to recoil extensively in the midst of outrageous dry spell. A prospering floriculture industry in the region is likewise affecting water levels and quality. Perhaps the ideal approaches to see a natural life is by vessel. You can spot in excess of 400 types here, including African fish falcons. Hippos slosh in the water, and giraffes, zebra, bison, and eland touch around the edges of the lake. Keep a watch out for Colobus monkeys in the coverings, as well.
Close Lake Naivasha, the Crater Lake Game Sanctuary includes an untamed life rich nature trail. Only south of Lake Naivasha, the moderately reasonable Hell's Gate National Park ensures a wide assortment of natural life and offers brilliant climbing openings with two wiped out volcanoes and the red precipices of Hell's Gate Gorge. On the southern shore of Lake Naivasha, you can fly in for some tea at the Elsamere Conservation Center, the previous home of the late Joy Adamson, creator of Born Free and her better half George.
Mount Kenya National Park In the Central Highlands, east of the Great Rift Valley, Mount Kenya National Park is a UNESCO World Heritage Site including the nation's namesake most noteworthy mountain at 5,199 meters and giving the uncommon sight of the tropical day off. Shaped by a progression of volcanic emissions, Mount Kenya has three ice sheet shrouded crests. The most astounding is Batian, in spite of the fact that Nelion, the following most astounding, is a harder trip. The most reduced pinnacle, Lenana, is the least demanding trip, albeit erratic climate can posture difficulties.
View changes from icy masses, lakes, and mineral springs to high woodland and thick pockets of bamboo. The assorted variety of greenery gives compensating chances to adventure. Among the natural life here, you may spot Colobus monkeys, bison, elephant, tree hyrax, panther, and hyena.

Sara & Mamma take Kenya!
Stop #1- Nairobi
June 6, 2019
A few details about our trip so far...
Our first day in Nairobi was truly unforgettable. First of all, mom is totally treating me and I feel so lucky and privileged that she is sharing this trip with me. We stayed at the Fairmont Norfolk hotel which was absolutely stunning and charming while also maintaining the colonial design/decor as it was one of the first established hotels in Nairobi. We also have private tour guides picking us up and taking us to each location while we drive around in the land rovers we will also use on safari.
Tumblr media
So, day 1 begins. After a beautiful breakfast at the hotel we went to the Giraffe center which was created to protect the Rothschild Giraffe from extinction. They have few full grown male and female giraffes that stay on the premises for reproduction, and they make money to support this cause by allowing tourists to feed them and get some kisses!
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
It’s important to know that it’s not safe for grown animals to interact with humans because it decreases their chances of survival when released back into the wild, but these giraffes are here to stay as their purpose is to mate and reproduce. The babies only stay at the center for up to 3 years before they are released into the wild, and they have less interactions with people because they are smaller and can barely reach the stand where we fed them from.
My favorite part about this visit was, to my own surprise, what I learned on these tour. Yes, that’s right Pop- what I learned from the tour guides today was incredible!
Our guide from the giraffe center, Joy, shared with us the purpose of the center as previously mentioned, but also more. Daily the center takes in school children (OMG they are adorable) to educate them on the wild animals and conversation. They recycle milk bags and use them to carry and transport baby trees which help do three things. 1- provide shade to prevent drought. 2- increase oxygen. And 3- preservation.
The school children come and learn about the protection of the environment and take the baby trees to plant them at their schools and where they live. Educating them on wild life protection: Because Kenya is such a poor country often times students drop out of school and become poachers as a way to get money. This made me think a lot about my students and how many of them sell drugs for similar reasons- opportunity for money. Educating the students on wildlife from such a young age can improve protection efforts so they can support the sustainability of the environment and their animals. I talked to a few of the students and they were VERY CUTE! Ugly happy picture of me below.
Tumblr media
Okay- we are half way there! Next stop was the Sheldrick Wild Life Trust Elephant Orphanage. Their purpose is to take in baby elephants who have been found alone and without their families for a variety of possible reasons. If a baby elephant is found and there is no mother to be seen, then they come here to be raised and protected 24 hours a day every single day for 3-5 years depending on their age when they come in. Visitors can only come once a day from 11am-12 to see the elephants getting fed in order to minimize their contact with humans, but also to make money to support their cause. After their time at the orphanage, the elephants are brought to a part ofTsavo national park, where they are monitored for 5 years to help the transition from having 24/7 care. After those 5 years they are fully released back into the wild and are capable of joining other elephants and protecting themselves against predators and poachers. Here are photos of the feeding where we stood behind rope.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
But here’s the best part! If you are an “adoptor” of one of the elephants (which really means you sponser them for a year to support the cause) then you can request a special appointment to see the elephants go to bed from 5-6 pm. This was especially incredible as it was a much smaller group of people and there was no rope to stand behind. The elephants walked right passed us on their way to bed where we got to pet them and talk to their keepers from right outside their rooms. Before they went to their “bed” the last and largest elephant came directly towards me and walked into me! I thought he would turn and follow the paths of the others but no, he headed straight at me to say hello. Mom got part of it on video and it’s too large to share, but this picture is that elephant second before..no zoom at all.
Tumblr media
Here’s what it looked like once the elephants were “in bed”.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
The one I’m playing with is Maktao, the elephant Mom adopted in my name. The keeper staying with Maktao that night is named Peter and he took that photo for me. Can you see the cot? That’s where the keepers sleep each night while the elephants are babies. Maktao is only two years old! The keepers wake up every 3 hours to feed them. They rotate to different orphans every night so that the elephants don’t become attached. The work they do is amazing and the more I learned from the keeper the more I was blown away.
Before the second session at the Sheldrick Elephant Orphanage (follow @sheldricktrust if you are interested) we went to the Karen Blixen coffee garden and museum. It was lovely, but let’s be honest... We would have been with the elephants all day if it were possible!
Tumblr media
Today is day 2 and we are currently in the land rover for 7 hours driving en route to Maasai Mara for our first stop on safari! Larger elephants, and several more wild animal photos to come!
Love you all.

Book hotel and airport in advance if you are undertaking Kenya Safari Tours
Undertaking Kenya tours offers delightful African safaris that encompass a wide variety of wildlife safaris comprising of half a dozen national reserves. Kenya is an amazing landscape which has classic contrast with dramatic extremes. Apart from wildlife reserves and astonishing wildebeests’ exodus from Serengeti to Masai Mara you also have the adventurous climb of Mount Kenya a snow capped mountain amid hot and dry climate. The Nairobi National Park which is just a few minutes’ drive away from the capital contains the big 5 mammals of Africa namely lions, elephants, rhino, leopard  and cape buffalo. You cannot see this many animals concentrated on one place and the vast grasslands of savannah hides more than meet the eyes. Undertaking Kenya Safari Tours on a plane or flying tour will be a better idea because you can see them in spectacular bird-eye view.
Tumblr media
The beach of Malindi, the heights of Mount Kenya, and the dramatic landform of Hell’s Gate are some of the dramatic landforms that you should see and enjoy. However Africa being a new country you would like to put your schedule in the right perspective and accordingly book rooms in a 4 or 5 star hotel such as the hemingways hotel nairobi. It is a 5-star accommodation with outdoor swimming pool, restaurant, king suites, deluxe rooms, air conditioning, bar, massage parlor, concierge service, both native and continental cuisine. If you book a room here you can also book transport for various travels once you have landed at the Kenyatta International airport.
Airport transfers nairobi kenya can be booked with your tour operator who in advance will reserve a comfortable vehicle and page you down at the airport and take you to the hotel of your choice that you have booked in advance. Kenya being a new land and unknown to you may pose challenge if you don’t come armed with hotel reservation, travel booking, airport transfer etc. you will also need accommodations at base camps and all these needed to be put in the right place to make the tour work in your favor. These you can arrange with the tour operator via website or over phone. There are different African safari tour packages available with them and they can be ranging from a half day farm tour to 10-days all round Kenya and Tanzania African safari tours. Do not forget to include all the top attractions for which the continent is famous for.

When is the best time to spot animals?
When you visit Kenya’s parks and reserves, you’ll be spending a lot of time craning your neck and keeping watchful eyes out for animals and birds. There are a few telltale signs to note, as we as a few things you can do to maximize your chances of spotting the Big Five. Most are just common sense.
The best time to view wildlife to between 6.30am and 9.30am and from 3.30am to 6.30 pm. Cruzeiro Safaris makes sure they you during these timings. Wildlife drives in the mid of the day are unlikely to turn up much, (although there are popular parks such as Amboseli and Maasai Mara), https://www.cruzeiro-safaris.com/safarindovu animals are actually changing their normal hunting habits to avoid the tourist. When the tourists head back to the lodges for lunch, the carnivores go out hunting - in peace. In wooded country, agitated and noisy monkeys or baboons are often a sign that there’s a big cat (probably a leopard) around. Vultures circling are not necessarily an indication of a kill below. But if they are gathering in trees and seem to be watching something, you can reasonably assume they are waiting their turn for a go at a carcass.
One final note – taking longer safari is great, but endless long days peering out of a sunroof, on bumpy roads, in the heat, eating the same food stuck with the same people can take its toll quicker than you might think. Any animal you see on the first day will be exciting, though sooner or later most travelers will experience safari fatigue, that jaded feeling of ‘not another zebra, I wanna see a freaking leopard’. If this happens a few cultural activities and afternoon’s relaxations or even just a quick swim can do wonders for keeping things fresh. Or just take an air package especially for single travelers. https://www.cruzeiro-safaris.com/africasafari

Arrive anytime at Kilimanjaro International Airport (JRO), there will be a pick up private transfer waiting to Plane lodge in Arusha. All airport transfers are part of the package, no extra fee is required. We will gather in the evening for a pre-climb briefing and an equipment check. We will also confirm you have the appropriate mandatory medical coverage and travel insurance. Dinner and overnight at Arusha Planet Lodge: Half board. DAY 2: MACHAME CAMP. After completing the necessary registration formalities at Machame National Park gate, we begin to trek through a beautiful and lush forest. We have a picnic lunch en route. We camp at Machame Camp (9,800 ft). DAY 3: SHIRA CAMP. We soon leave the forest behind and enter the moorland zone of giant heather. The trail climbs steadily through rocky hills with wide views of the Shira Plateau (11,000 ft). From our camp near Shira Hut (12,600 ft), we take in the unforgettable views of Mt. Meru as she floats among the clouds. DAY 4: BARRANCO CAMP. A morning of sustained ascent and panoramic views brings us to lunch near Lava Tower (14,900 ft). The trail then descends to the bottom of the Barranco Valley (12,800 ft), where we stay in the spectacular Barranco Camp sheltered by towering cliffs and with extensive views of the plains far below. DAY 5: KARANGA CAMP. A steep climb up the Barranco Wall leads us to an undulating trail on the south-eastern flank of Kibo, with superb vistas of the Southern Icefields. The terrain changes to scree, with pockets of lush vegetation in sheltered hollows, and there is only a short distance to our camp at Karanga Camp (13,100 ft), the last water point on the approach to the summit. DAY 6: BARAFU CAMP. We follow an easy path on compacted scree with wide views that gains altitude unrelentingly to reach Barafu Hut (14,800 ft) for lunch. There is a short acclimatization hike to the plateau at the bottom of the southeast valley (15,700 ft). The remainder of the day is spent resting in preparation for the early morning final ascent. DAY 7: SUMMIT TO MWEKA CAMP. We start our ascent by torchlight about 1 a.m. so that we can be up on the crater rim by sunrise. The steep climb over loose volcanic scree has some well-graded zig-zags and a slow but steady pace will take us to Stella Point (18,800 ft), in about five or six hours. We will rest there for a short time to enjoy the sunrise over Mawenzi. Those who are still feeling strong can make the two-hour round trip from here along the crater rim to Uhuru Peak (19,345 ft), passing close to the spectacular glaciers and ice cliffs that still occupy most of the summit area. The descent to Barafu is surprisingly fast, and after some refreshments, we continue to descend to reach our final campsite, Mweka Camp (9,300 ft). DAY 8: MWEKA CAMP TO MWEKA GATE. A sustained descent on a well-constructed path takes us through a lovely tropical forest alive with birdsong and boasting lush undergrowth with considerable botanical interest. Our route winds down to the Kilimanjaro National Park gate at Mweka (5,400 ft); and on through coffee and banana farms to Mweka village, where we are transferred to our lodging in Arusha. DAY 9: GAME DRIVE IN TARANGIRE NATIONAL PARK. We depart from your lodge in Arusha and proceed to Tarangire National Park. Tarangire is known for its vast herds of elephants. It is estimated that there are over 2,500 elephants in the park. We enjoy an outdoors lunch overlooking the bluff and viewing Tarangire’s plains. After the game drive we dine and stay overnight at Lake Manyara Hotel. DAY 10: GAME DRIVE IN NGORONGORO CRATER. Today we visit the largest intact volcanic crater in the world, the magnificent Ngorongoro Crater. At more than 2,000 feet deep and 12 miles in diameter, the Ngorongoro Crater has one of the largest concentrations of wildlife in Africa. 30,000 animals make their home in this crater, making it an ideal place for sightings of the ‘big 5’ – lion, elephant, rhino, buffalo and leopard. We enjoy a picnic lunch in this truly world-class attraction, also known as the ‘8th Wonder of the World. We return to the same lodging for dinner and our second overnight at Lake Manyara Hotel. DAY 11: GAME DRIVE IN LAKE MANYARA NATIONAL PARK. After breakfast, we depart the Ngorongoro Conservation Area and proceed to Lake Manyara National Park. Although small in size, this park is one of the most diverse reserves in the country. Lake Manyara covers two-thirds of the park. At the backdrop is the wall of the Great Rift Valley, before which lies the groundwater forest, areas of open grassland near the lake foreshore, and the Soda Lake. We enjoy a picnic lunch in this area, which consists of open grassy areas, hot springs, dense woodlands, and steep mountainsides. Lake Manyara National Park is a birding paradise that has more than 350 species of bird. The park is also famed for its unique and elusive tree-climbing lions. This safari takes you to Lake Manyara, Ngorongoro Crater & Tarangire is designed to offer you a short but intense Tanzanian Northern Circuit safari experience. You will experience the excitement of game viewing in three of the most spectacular national game parks in Tanzania. Your tour will also take you to the Lake Manyara which is one of Tanzania’s most dramatically located wildlife areas consisting of a shallow but huge soda lake, at the foot of the Great Rift Valley’s western escarpment.
Day 1: Arusha to Lake Manyara National park

Tumblr media
This impressive park is one of Tanzania’s most dramatically located wildlife areas, consisting of a massive but shallow soda lake (covering two-thirds of the park) at the foot of the Great Rift Valley’s western escarpment. The park’s varied habitat attracts a wide variety of animals, including one of Africa’s largest concentrations of elephants, Manyara’s famous tree-climbing lions, as well as large flocks of flamingos attracted by the algae in the lake. Dinner and overnight at the camp.
Main Destination: Lake Manyara National Park Accommodation: Budget camping Meals & Drinks: Lunch & dinner (Breakfast not included), Drinking water (Other drinks not included)
Day 2: Lake Manyara National Park to Ngorongoro Crater
Non game-viewing travel time: 2 hours & 3 ½ hours Distance: 60km & 155 km After breakfast we descend 600m into this magnificent crater for a morning, half-day game drive.
Tumblr media
The Ngorongoro Crater is one of the most densely crowded African wildlife areas in the world and is home to an estimated 30,000 animals including some of Tanzania’s last remaining black rhino. Supported by a year round water supply and fodder, the Ngorongoro Crater supports a vast variety of animals, which include herds of wildebeest, zebra, buffalo, eland, warthog, hippo, and giant African elephants. Another big draw card to this picturesque national park is it’s dense population of predators, which include lions, hyenas, jackals, cheetahs and the ever-elusive leopard, which sometimes requires a trained eye to spot. We will enjoy a picnic lunch in the crater, after which we travel to the Tarangire National Park for an overnight. Dinner and overnight the camp.
Main Destination: Ngorongoro Crater Accommodation: Budget camping Meals & Drinks: All meals included,  Drinking water (Other drinks not included)
Day 3: Tarangire National Park to Arusha
Distance: 120 km After breakfast we shall have excessive game viewing session in this park, the park runs along the line of the Tarangire River and is mainly made up of low-lying hills on the Great Rift Valley floor.
Tumblr media
Its natural vegetation mainly consists of Acacia woodland and giant African Baobab trees, with huge swamp areas in the south. Both the river and the swamps act like a magnet for wild animals, during Tanzania’s dry season. The Tarangire National Park is reputed to contain some of the largest elephant herds in Africa. This African national park is also home to three rare species of animals – the Greater Kudu, the Fringed-eared Oryx, as well as a few Ashy Starlings. We return to the lodge for lunch after which we will depart for Arusha town and we will end our African safari adventure. You will be driven to your hotel, which ends marks the end of the safari.

Zanzibar Island (Spice Island)
Tumblr media
Zanzibar Island Known as the Spice Island, the beautiful island of Zanzibar on Africa’s east coast is bursting with culture and history. Seemingly at odds with its idyllic geography of white-sand beaches with palms swaying lazily in the sea breeze. Together this makes Zanzibar a fabulous place to explore as well as a dream to relax and unwind. Zanzibar is the semi-autonomous part of Tanzania in East Africa. It is composed of the Zanzibar Archipelago in the Indian Ocean, 25–50 kilometres (16–31 mi) off the coast of the mainland. It consists of many small islands and two large ones. Unguja (the main island, referred to informally as Zanzibar) and Pemba. The capital is Zanzibar City, located on the island of Unguja. Its historic centre is Stone Town, which is a World Heritage Site. Portuguese invasion and control of the Swahili Coast in the late 16th century ended the golden age of the archipelago. Although the Omani Arabs returned to power less than a century later. Today, many of the winding streets and high townhouses of old Stone Town remain unchanged and visitors can walk between the sultan’s palace. The House of Wonders, the Portuguese fort and gardens, the merchants’ houses, and the Turkish baths of the old city. Day-long spice tours to working plantations offer visitors the chance to observe the cultivation of cloves, vanilla, nutmeg, cinnamon, and other spices that have made the island famous. Zanzibar’s coastline offers some of the best beaches in the world. But sand and surf vary depending on what side of the island you’re on. On the east coast, waves break over coral reefs and sand bars offshore, and low tide reveals small pools of starfish, small minnows, and anemones. Up north, ocean swimming is much less susceptible to the tides, and smooth beaches and white sand make for dazzling days in the sun. The port city of Stone Town dominates the west coast, and although the beaches of Mangapwani. Slave caves are visible at low tide and nearby Bububu are less than half an hour’s drive away. A night or two spent on the east or north cost is well worth the extra hour it takes to drive there. That said, the Chole Island Marine Park just off Stone Town – and nearby Prison, Grave, and Snake Islands – make a refreshing day-trip and a good break from exploring the winding passageways of the old city. On the south coast of Zanzibar lies the Menai Bay Conservation Area. A sea turtle protection area for the endangered species that come to breed on the island. Roads to the southeast coast take visitors through the Jozani Forest. Home to Zanzibar’s rare Red Colobus monkeys and a number of other primate and small antelope species. 5 Nights / 6 Days Cultural Zanzibar check out: Food & Cultures Nairobi National Museum Africa Diving Holiday Top Self Drive Holiday Deals in Kenya If you think you have to travel far to enjoy a nice weekend, you may never get away. Day 094, 05.06.2019, 0.0 km, Nairobi: It's the first day since beginning of this journey that I was not cycling. Instead, I spent the first half of the day on a guided tour through Nairobi National Park and the second half with visiting the Nairobi Railway Museum and walking around city center.
First to the animals, now I've seen one lion, one crocodile, two white rhinos, a few buffalos, some warthogs, as well as many more zebras, giraffes, antilopes and various birds. So now only leopard and elephant out of the Big Five are missing on this journey.
The steam locomotives in the museum were as interesting as the animals. Especially the large Garratt type steam locomotives are simply impressive. What's not so impressive is the many security checkpoints before one gets access to the museum, I even had to leave my passport at one checkpoint. Security is in Kenya everywhere.
There would be more to explore in Nairobi, meaning I could stay at least one more day, but not on this journey. It's time to move on. 😀
