HISTORY OF NAMSAN TOWER

The N Seoul Tower, officially the YTN Seoul Tower commonly known as the Namsan Tower or Seoul Tower, is a communication and observation tower located on Namsan Mountain in central Seoul, South Korea. It marks the highest point in Seoul.

Built in 1969 the tower was opened to the public in 1980. Seoul Tower was completed on December 3, 1971 by Jangjongryul. By August 1975 there were open the third floor of the observatory room, museum, open hall and souvenir shop. After completion of the tower, the use of the observatory was prohibited. The tower was open to the public for the first time on October 15, 1980. Since then, the tower has been a landmark of Seoul. It measures 236.7 m in height from the base and tops out at 479.7 m above sea level. It changed its name to N Seoul Tower in 2005. The "N" stands for new, Namsan and nature.

LIGHTING OF THE TOWER

The N Seoul Tower is illuminated in blue from sunset to 23:00 ( 22:00 in winter) on days where the air quality in Seoul is 45 or less. During the spring of 2012, the Tower was lif up for 52 days, which is four days more than in 2011. The tower uses the latest LED technology to offer visitors a digital, cultural art experience through light art. The N Seoul Tower puts on many different shows including the " Reeds of Light" and " Shower of light".

An exception to this is Earth Day. On Earth Day, lights were held nationwide to promote awareness of energy conversation. At 8 p.m KST. on that day, lights of N Seoul Tower on Namsan disappear into darkness.

BEST TIME TO VISIT NAMSAN TOWER

N Seoul Tower is a must- visit attractions in any season! You can enjoy the cherry blossoms during spring, pleasant weather during summer, the autumn foliage during fall, and the cold snow during winter.

If you want to avoid big crowds, visit during the early morning as many people come during the afternoon to witness the sunset, also during the night for the city view of the Seoul Skyline.

WHERE TO EXCHANGE CURRENCY?

South Korea's currency is called Korean Won ( KRW). Exchange rate is about 0.00091 US Dollars ( USD) or 0.048 Philippine Peso ( PHP) per 1 KRW. Upon arrival of Incheon International Airport, you can change a small amount and change the rest of your money when you arrive in Seoul. You can exchange currency at the many changers found in Myeongdong where the exchange rate is good.

Alternatively, you can also withdraw Korean Won directly from the many ATMs in Seoul. To avoid any inconvenience, before flying to South Korea, make sure to advice your local bank that you will be withdrawing money from ATMs abroad. You will exchanged your $ 100 USD to KRW when you arrive in Incheon to just have some cash on hand. When you ran out of cash, you will withdraw KRW from the ATM using your Philippine ATM card.

HOW TO GET TO SEOUL, SOUTH KOREA?

There are two major airports servicing passengers on visiting Seoul, South Korea. One is Gimpo Airport, which is nearer the city of Seoul and is used mostly for domestic flights and some international flights from Japan, China and Taiwan. Most international flights going to Seoul arrive at Incheon International Airport which is the largest and considered as the primary gateway to South Korea.

Local airline such Cebu Pacific Air, Philippine Airlines, Air Asia Philippines, and international airlines have daily flights from Manila to Incheon, as well as direct flights from Kalibo to ( Seoul Incheon).

HOW TO GET TO NAMSAN TOWER

There are two ways to get to the N Seoul Tower, either by cable car or by bus. From Myeongdong Subway Station, take exit number 3 and walk towards bus stop 02149. From here, take bus number 5 that will bring you to N Seoul Tower for 1, 200 KRW. If you want to take the cable car, just walk down the street on the right side of Pacific Hotel and you'll find the boarding station after about 15 minutes. When you see an elevator, take the elevator then get to the boarding point. Cable car operating hours is from 10:00 AM to 11:00 PM and round - trip ticket costs 8,500 KRW ( adults) and 5,000 KRW ( children).

ENTRANCE FEE: Adults: 10,000 KRW/ Children/ Elderly: 8,000 KRW. But if you have a Discover Seoul Pass, you can climb the N Seoul Tower's Overvatory for - FREE.
