Will, Jonathan, and Joyce Formed a Special Trio

If Eleven is the main character in Stranger Things, the Byers family is the conduit through which she flickers. Will’s disappearance in the first season spurred the Hawkins community to rush to his aid. The tight-knit camaraderie between Will, Jonathan, and Joyce juxtaposes the stereotypical family composed of kids and teenagers. Parents and children are supposed to fight and bicker in television and other media, often to build the main conflict of the story, but the Byers family already underwent that trauma offscreen.  Lonnie Byers (Ross Partridge) makes a brief cameo in the first season, flexing his standoffish demeanor and abusive nature. It’s clear that the Byers patriarch doesn’t possess much empathy for his ex-wife or his sons. Jonathan valiantly steps into the father, husband, and big brother role, amalgamating into a combination of responsibilities that no other character on the show could dream of emulating. 

Jonathan Binds the Byers Family Together

Jonathan’s multifaceted arc in the first two seasons made him one of the series’ most easily dissectable characters. Stranger Things often differentiates itself from other shows by keeping the antagonists separate from the main characters. There are no Walter White or Tony Soprano-style antiheroes in which fans must compromise one part of their moral compass to appreciate the character. One might think this makes the series boring, but it’s the opposite. Jonathan was proof that a nearly perfect brother and son can still be fascinating to watch. After Will was found in season 1’s climax, he was taken over by the Mind Flayer in season 2. Jonathan again stood by Will’s side as his little brother felt outcasted by friends and society at large. Schnapp and Heaton’s chemistry often leads to tender, humorous exchanges like this one in which the boys remind the audience that being weird can be a human superpower in its own right.  These moments became few and far between in seasons 3 and 4. Will and Jonathan were relegated to minor supporting characters as the aforementioned new additions took center stage. Will at least gets to tag along with Mike, Dustin, Lucas, and the other younger friends. Jonathan often only appears in a few small scenes with his girlfriend Nancy (Natalia Dyer), and the writers even flirted with pushing Nancy back into Steve’s arms in the most recent season. Jonathan spent the majority of season 4 high on marijuana and frolicking around in a faux buddy-comedy routine with the one-off character Argyle (Eduardo Franco).  The decision to waste Heaton’s work from the first two seasons with a 180-degree personality change made no sense. Jonathan suddenly seemed careless, distant, and uninspired, but not in a dense way that could be unlocked by further character development. Little-to-no time was spent on him. While some fans might concur it is a necessary evil to take screen time away from older characters when expanding the world of Hawkins, it certainly transforms Stranger Things from a show about family into a show just about monsters and romances. 

Jonathan’s Enhanced Role in Season 5?

Many theories point to Will being one of the critical pieces to defeating Vecna (Jamie Campbell Bower) in the fifth and final season. His connection to the Upside Down and the evils underneath the surface should open up opportunities for Jonathan to lend his ears and counseling once again. Jonathan grows on an individual level when he aids others. When locked out of his family’s life, it stunts his ability to shine as a listener and an empathizer.  Jonathan’s best scene from season 4 again features a tear-jerking moment with Will. On the cusp of coming out of the closet, Will needs Jonathan more than ever before, and his brother responds supremely to the task at hand. The poignant conversation validates that the Duffers haven’t completely forgotten how to flesh out the Byers family. When the world gets too enormous for the characters and the audience, Jonathan serves as a connector to the most human elements of the series’ thematic thesis. He may not be as funny as Steve or as neurotic as Robin, but Jonathan symbolizes the good in all of us. In a show shrouded in darkness, Jonathan’s presence will be instrumental to forming a satisfying, optimistic conclusion in Hawkins, Indiana.

The Whitman Family

Aphrodite: Cosmetics Conglomerate

The Whitman family is founded from humble beginnings that burgeoned into a multinational empire, weaving a saga of ambition, beauty, and the enduring legacy of Whitman Cosmetics. The company's roots trace back to a small perfume shop run by first generation immigrants, eventually evolving into a Midtown Manhattan-based powerhouse resulting in Whitman Cosmetics being known as a a multinational cosmetics company, manufacturer and marketer of makeup, skincare, perfume, and hair care products. First Whitman (76) serves as the CEO of the company, unable to step down as she hasn’t found a “suitable replacement” yet - much to the chagrin of her husband, First Stirling (75), who stepped down as the CFO for Whitman Cosmetics two years ago and just wants to retire in peace.

Their eldest child, First Hawthorne (48) has ventured into the family business as a fragrance chemist for the company, focusing on aromachology and how fragrances can impact mood or feelings. She and her husband First Hawthorne (49) have started their own small family with two children. After their father retired, the role of CFO was handed down to the eldest son, First Whitman (46) who was an extremely able and capable candidate for the role, though many in the company took it as a bit of a slight since he had not worked for Whitman Cosmetics as long as other candidates in the running. Regardless, alongside his wife First Whitman (46) and four daughters, he has managed to perform well in the role while contending with the pressure to find a successor CEO when his mother retires.

The remaining siblings have all ventured around Whitman Cosmetics in one way or another: First Whitman (42) is a professional model and has long been the face of Whitman Cosmetics, but finds himself grappling with the inevitable challenge of aging in an industry fixated on youth. Meanwhile, First Whitman (37) is the Chief Marketing Officer for the company and is trying to usher in a new generation of marketing strategies by collaborating with his younger brother First Whitman (35), a social media influencer and socialite that is always attending the classiest of affairs in New York City.

To aid in gaining the attention of younger generations are the twin daughters, First Whitman (33) and First Whitman (33). Using their family name and their own unique skills in the cosmetic industry, they have leveraged their family name and resources to establish a private boutique in Manhattan where they work as a makeup artist and hairstylist respectively, providing high end clientele with everything they might need in order to look their best. They have recently started to collaborate with First Cheng (39), hoping to combine her talents as a fashion designer to create an entire creative fashion Haus in the heart of New York City and take their family reputations and wealth to new heights.

a/n: my mommy issues got the best of me on this one. so i apologize. also, sorry this one's relatively short

you stayed the night with robin since your parents got into another really big argument.

"come on m/n, you barely make any time for family anymore" you heard your dad calmly say to your mom

"well im sorry that i have a job!"

"please don't yell, y/n is sleeping"

"you're seriously worried about y/n right now?!" your dad wasn't one to raise his voice, but he finally had enough.

"yes, i'm worried about her! sue me for caring about our daughter that you seem to be disregarding!" she lets out a scoff

"disregarding my own daughter? seriously d/n?"

"yes! can't you see it?? you constantly blow her off for 'work' or make up some bullshit excuse as to why you can't attend anything school related. did you know, she aced that geography test that she was stressed out about? did you know that she brought her school mathletes club to nationals? did you know any of this?!" his voice softens a little towards the end.

"do you know how much it kills me when she looks out in the crowd for you at any of her band performances and you're not there? so yes, you've completely disregarded her and shoved her aside. i get it, you have a job, you bust your ass working, but so do i. so that doesn't give you any excuse to not support her.

"she goes the extra mile to make you feel proud of her and you. don't. care. you're failing her, m/n. and i'm sick of it. she doesn't even have that spark in her eyes anymore. she looks tired. and i'll be damned if i keep watching from the sidelines as you tear her down. fix this."

it goes quiet and tears are streaming down your face. but your dad had a point. she was never there anymore.

"i'm leaving. this is too much for me." you hear your mom say and your dad starts yelling again.

"too much?!" he scoffs. "you're telling me that caring even the slightest bit about your daughter is 'too much'?! you want to know what's too much? this marriage. i'm not going to keep pulling your weight around here."

"fine. see what i care. i'll mail you the divorce papers" you hear the front door slam and you assume your mother left. if you can even call her that anymore. you wipe your face and get up to go check on your dad.

you open your bedroom door and see him sitting on a bar stool at the kitchen counter, head in his hands. you slowly walk to him and place a hand on his shoulder. he turns to face you and the rims of his eyes are red. he gives you a lopsided smile.

"hey kiddo. cant sleep?" you hug him and he hugs you back.

"i'm so sorry dad." you let out a sniffle and he sighs.

"don't be sorry for the inevitable" you pull back from him and nod.

"go try and get some sleep, okay?" you nod again and walk back to your room. you sit there and stare at the ceiling for a while.

once you hear your dad's bedroom door close, you quietly get up and grab your overnight bag. you shove an outfit for school tomorrow into the overnight bag and you make your way to the front door. you write a note to your dad saying that you're going to robins. you then grab your school bookbag and you leave the house, locking the door behind you.

you swing one leg over your bike and mount it, pedaling towards robin's place. once you get there, you knock on her door. loud enough for her to hear and quiet enough not to wake anyone. she opens it immediately since she hasn't gone to sleep yet and she's shocked to see you standing there.

she takes in your disheveled appearance and pulls you inside with her, instantly bringing you into a hug.

"what happened pretty girl?"you loved when she called you that.

she brings you to sit on her couch and she pulls you into her, rubbing your back soothingly. you explain everything that happened to her and she listens to the whole thing intently, confused as to how your own mother could every hurt you. robin thought you were the sweetest thing to ever walk the face of the earth and she loved you more than she loved boobies. which was a lot.

"do you want to head to bed?" she asked after everything and you nodded and the two of you got up, heading to her bedroom.

"don't judge my room, i haven't cleaned it in a while. wasn't expecting guests" you let out a weak laugh and she feels good that she made you laugh.

you two settle into bed and drift off to sleep.

you were woken up by robin peppering kisses all over your face. you laughed and you two eventually got out of bed and got dressed for another awful day at hawkins high.

you heard robin struggling to do something in her bathroom and you walked in to see her trying to do her eyeliner.

"let me help" you take the stick out her hand and motion for her to sit on the toilet lid. she listens then you situate yourself on her lap.

you cup her cheek in your hand and carefully apply her eyeliner and her hands around your waist tighten a little.

"all done" you say, then pulling back to admire your work. robin hadn't spoken yet, just kept staring at you.

"what? is there something on my face?" you go to look at yourself in the mirror but robin stops you. she holds your face in her hands and smiles.

"what did i ever do to deserve you, y/n?" she then pulls you into a kiss and you hear a faint moan come from her. you pull back and rest your forehead against hers, the sound of her panting heavily being the only sound you can hear. you let out a small laugh.

"robin, it's not even 7:30 in the morning and you're already horny? god, and i thought steve was worse"

she laughs and pulls you back into another kiss. you two are then broken apart as you hear a horn honk outside.

"shit, steve's here to take us to school"

"speak of the devil and he shall appear," you mumble to yourself, but robin heard it and laughs. she goes to walk to her bedroom but you grab her hand and pull her back to you.

"thank you robin. for everything you do. i don't tell you i appreciate you enough" she furrows her brows and grabs your hands in hers and faces you.

"why are you thanking me? you know you're always welcomed here. and i'll always be here for you. there's no need to thank me" you look down at your feet and she tilts your chin up to look at her.

"there's those pretty eyes i adore so much" you smile and your face heats up.

"i love you. so much"

"i lo-" she's cut off by steve yelling.

"robin come on! how hard is it to put on shoes?!" you both laugh and head out, locking her door behind you. steve gasps a little. robin slides into the passenger seat, you in the back.

"apparently tying shoes takes a long time and is actually quite fun" robin says to him and he just about breaks his neck to look at her and you laugh.

"please don't talk about sex with y/n to me" you interject.

"we didn't fuck, steve. we were making out. tonsil tennis if you will" steve starts to choke a little and robin is laughing her ass off in the passenger seat.

"just.. be quiet please. my virgin ears can't bear to listen anymore"

"yeah, okay, virgin ears. oh my god, steve! steve! harder!" you imitate moaning and robin is thoroughly entertained by this as steve's face goes red.

"i hate both of you" you then laugh

"i'm only messing with you steve-o" you then ruffle his hair and he swats your hand away.

"do not touch the hair" you and robin laugh and steve continues his drive to hawkins high. it was the longest twenty minutes of his life.

Manip: Love at First Punch/ Checkmate

Sparks fly upon first sight (or rather first punch) between Jonathan Bishop who locks eyes with Eleanor "Nell" Brandon, at a party they don't want to be at- unaware that they're on a collision course...

On paper, they couldn't be more different- while Jonathan is the proverbial black sheep and middle child in a family consisting of his sisters and mother, Nell is the golden and only child in her family, en route to following in her parents' career paths and footsteps, with no room for contemplation or Plan B's. He embraces unpredictability, she downright rejects it. If there's one thing they do have theoretically in common- they both choose to be happily single and falling in love is NOT an option for either of them.

But they both have a hidden talent- while Jonathan can read people through body language without blinking an eye, Nell is overly and incredibly empathetic and can tell when something doesn't seem right in a situation...

So when a person they both care about is found murdered the following morning- they find a kindred spirit in each other's grief and decide to take matters into their own hands.

What happens when a night of passion, startling revelations and caveats as they go about their investigation, instigate something that neither one of them are prepared for- falling in love?

Personality:

Rhet was never given the chance to grow up— not in the traditional sense. she was never given the opportunity to turn mean, to learn that life wasn’t always fair. she never had to worry about anything in the world. whatever she asked for materialized whether by adoring father, loving mother, or watchful brother. even at school, where her quiet demeanor could have easily brought on laughter from her peers, rhet had a quiet confidence, an expectation of only her interests to matter, and the instilled faith that they would be. such things resonant with peers, allowing her to move through the halls of her school untouched, to maintain a quiet distance at social events without it being strange or awkward. of course, no one has ever thought to ask if the princess in the tower might be lonely, after all these years with only the portraits on her walls as true friends. 

Biography:

While the first born child can be nerve-wracking, a test on a relationship, the hope that all will come to frutions— the wexleys had their perfect eldest boy immediately. the family legacy secure, the only thing that mattered for subsequent children was…well, margaret wexley cannot be sure. but she knows that her parents have only ever wanted her to be happy in this life. and that despite all the well wishes, it did not prevent her from childhood turmoil of a different kind. 

  as a young girl, she was hospitalized with pneumonia, a blight that would prevent her from spending her christmas break taking on the bunny hills of switzerland, but nothing incurable. until it continued to rapidly spiral, doctors finally landing on bronchiolitis— an uncured cold that had spiraled out of control. and while she would have be be periodically hospitalized again over the years (always in the winter months, always with pneumonia) they never found a more serious underlying issue for her treatments. some little girls were just born with fragile constitutions, no matter how many tests were run and how many vitamins they took. sometimes the prescription was simply for her to stay home from school for the semester, to study with tutors and walk the art museums of the city in their off-hours (when they were closed to the public, one always had to be careful). she traded nannies for nurses early in her life, and would never regain the closeness of girlhood friends who might have been. 

  when she did go to school, she found herself drawn to the art classes, to english, anything other than the unsightly medicinal walls of their biology labs. and when one is a wexley, it’s always possible to get what you want. a charmed, if not eccentric, life was put on hold again when she was hospitalized in high school, this time her usual symptoms shifting, morphing into what would eventually be diagnosed as autoimmune encephalitis— though not for months after its symptoms started presenting. often disoriented and feverish, rhet spent her days looking through books of paintings, words on the page failing her. she relied on the comforts of her immediate family, the only ones who were allowed to visit (the only ones who would have anyways).

  once cured, rhet went on to be able to finish a degree, though mostly online, in art history from columbia university. her new lease on life allowed her to continue to pursue the classes that she loved, and pay tribute to all the artists who had continued to keep her company over the years. ever so fragile still, she was not allowed to go on the long luxurious vacations that her sister seemed to enjoy, nor could she interact with a majority of the public. no it seemed that margaret wexley would have to take her time in life and grow stronger before she could become a member of society— unless some virus came into to town that would present another threat to her and keep her locked in her penthouse indefinitely.
