Look fuck the Swiss and so on, but Switzerland is not an ethnostate. It's not even a nation-state. It's made up of people who broadly consider themselves German, French and Italian, as well as a small minority (Romansch-speakers) who have no other national identification than Swiss. In this regard it is pretty much unique in all of Europe, and that is worth remembering, because it could in some ways be seen as a sort of surviving hold-over of pre-natonal time.

Croatia Travel guide, the best places to holiday.
Tumblr media
Croatia is one of the most beautiful coastal nations in Europe. It’s a unique blend of eastern and Mediterranean Europe. It has a whopping 5800km long coastline with it’s many islands included. Although there is no shortage of amazing and beautiful sights, There are a whole lot of fun stuff to do in Croatia. Great historical sites and monuments, must visit natonal parks, beautiful beaches, go island hopping, hire a yacht and explore the beautiful coastline.
As a coastal destination, Croatia is well known for having the prettiest beaches on the Adriatic sea. The turquoise blue water and sandy beaches are loved by tourists and photographers alike. However, there are more to this unique location than beaches and seaside villages. We will explore some of the beautiful places in mainland Croatia along with the coastline in this travel guide.
The best places to holiday in Croatia.
1.Dubrovnik We are convinced, that Dubrovnik cannot be left out of the list of the best places to holiday in Croatia. It has one of the most amazing Old Town districts in Europe. Therefore it is no wonder, that most of the scenes from King’s Landing was shot in Dubrovnik.
Along with Trogir, Dubrovnik is part of the UNESCO World Heritage sites. Its big old town area has been a popular tourist destination since the early days of tourism. While most locations were discovered quite slowly, Dubrovnik has been in the centre of attention for quite a while when it comes to tourism.
Once you step inside the original city walls, you will be taken into another world. You will feel like travelling right back into medieval ages. Walking on the cobblestone streets, within buildings that feel older than time itself is a unique feeling to experience. Dubrovnik is well connected to all major airports in europe and you can find plenty of cheap flight and hotels if you book early.
2.The Island of Hvar One of the top holiday destinations in Croatia is The Hvar Island, It is a favourite of tourists. It’s located south of Brac island and offers some of the most beautiful beaches in Croatia for those who love the beach and the beautiful coastline this is your spot. Hire a yacht and discover the the turquoise blue water and sandy beaches of the Adriatic sea. There are plenty of beautiful sea side cottages and hotels to choose from.
Apart from the beaches, the island is full of old medieval architecture and villages. Most of them survived the test of time quite well. Once the sun goes down it will be evident to you why Hvar is popular especially amongst the younger travellers. The main town on the island, also called Hvar, will transform into a party town, complete with cafes, bars and night clubs that are open late into the early morning.
3. Rovinj Old Town Rovinj is a city less than an hour away from Pula. No surprise that it has had plenty of Roman influence throughout history. To be honest, Rovinj looks like a town from the Venetian coastal region of Italy. It’s just in Croatia. This is a must visit on the list of best places to holiday in Croatia.
Built on a small isle, originally it was only reachable by a bridge. Ever since then the land has been filled up, now the old town has its own tiny peninsula. Surrounded by water, this special medieval town has one of the most charming atmospheres in Croatia. No surprise it is featured on the list of top romantic getaways in Croatia.
Wondering the cobblestone streets of this small old town area, you will be greeted with beauty around each corner. From tiny little sidestreets to grandiose plazas, this old town part has it all, condensed into a peninsula on the Adriatic.
Croatia is also one of the best holiday spots for sea lovers and sailors. We offer one of the best deals when it comes to boutique cruises from our partner Hopa Yachts. A boutique cruise is a unique sailing experience that will take you to places you never imagine on a comfortable home-like ship. Boutique cruises take place on small and medium vessels and therefore accommodate only a small limited number of travelers. Therefore the atmosphere on board is relaxed and the service is exceptional. A boutique cruise ensures a direct connection to nature and maximum proximity to the sea. We offer free cancellation. Just reserve at the lowest prices and pay later. Click here to avail exclusive promo code for our fans.
4. Pula In Croatia, Pula is the main attraction if you are planning to see some Roman ruins. As the centre of administration for the region in Roman times, it has one of the best ancient ruins of any Croatian city.
Not only that but the roman Amphitheatre in Pula, is one of the best-conserved Amphitheatre in the whole world, along with the Colosseum. Better yet, the Amphitheatre of Pula is in use today. You can catch musicals, theatre performances and live music performances here. Attending a live performance in the ancient building of the Roman Amphitheatre is a very unique and memorable experience.
Additionally to the beautiful Roman ruins in the city, the region also has a great history of winemaking and fishing. Whenever visiting, make sure you try some of the local wines and have some local seafood.
5. Motovun This iconic city in the Istria region of Croatia is perfect for an autumn getaway. The town resides on a hilltop and has a charming old town area. The surrounding region has been known for great wine and is perfect for visiting some wineries.
The town is also very famous for its excellent truffle, that is growing in the surrounding woods. As such, we recommend you to try the truffle out in one of the many restaurants and hotels around the area.
Even if you are looking to catch some sun on the beach Motovun is located less than an hour away from the Istrian coast, so you are not missing out on the beautiful shore of Croatia.
6. Trogir Old Town With the city of Trogir, we have our first urban location on the list of best places to holiday in Croatia. Trogir is just west of Split. You can get here with a relatively short drive. The towns most famous attraction is the Historic City of Trogir.
This historic location sits on a tiny island in the middle of the city. Apart from being one of the best-preserved Mediterranean medieval city, it is also a UNESCO World Heritage site. This amazing old town has been shaped by all the great seafaring nations of the past. You will find that the influence of such nations, like the Greeks and Romans, have made the Historical City Centre of Trogir quite a special place.
The fact that it has survived the test of time in such an amazing state is a wonder in itself. We highly recommend visiting this pretty UNESCO site.
7.Brela Beach – Punta Rata It is in an orderly fashion, we start our list of prettiest places in a country known for its breathtaking coastline, on a beach. South of Split, almost halfway to Dubrovnik lies the city of Brela. This particular town is well known for its the beautiful beach the Punta Rata. There is plenty of fun things to do while in brela.
It seems like to us that the water is always crystal clear, and the most beautiful shade of turquoise around here. Along with the beautiful sea, this white pebble beach will provide you with a view even if you turn back towards the land. Right behind you are the mountains of Biokovo Nature Park.
In 1968, this beachside has been named ‘Champion of the Adriatic’. Although it has been a couple of years since 1968, even today, Punta Rata is one of the most beautiful beaches on the Adriatic. Brela Beach is definitely among the list of best places to holiday in Croatia. click for more info compare cruise prices
8. Zlatni Rat, Brac Zlatni Rat is one of the most unique beaches of Croatia. Also known as the Golden Horn, this pretty beach has been a symbol of Brac Island.
The white sandy beach and the always beautiful Adriatic Sea could alone make this beach noteworthy. However, its most unique feature is its location. Located on the south side of Brac Island, it is a tiny sand isle extending into the sea. The size of the actual beach will always be dependent on the sea.
It’s not only the beachgoers that love Zlatni Rat. Due to it’s unique geographical location, the sea around it can get windy with great waves. This makes the beach a perfect spot for sailors, sea lovers that love sailing, windsurfers as well.

Coming Out
It is a coincidence that #WorldMentalHealthDay and #NationalComingOutDay are next to each other on the calendar. It’s not a coincidence that LGBT+ people are disproportionately affected by common mental health problems such as depression, anxiety and stress, have higher rates of self-harm, suicidal ideation and attempts than the general population.
Coming out is often talked about as a single moment. In reality, LGBTQ+ people live in a cisgendered-hetrosexist society (that values reductive binaries above the lived experiences of so many), thus coming out is a continuous process.
“Out” is so often talked about as a binary, you’re either closeted, or you’re a out. In mainstream queer narratives (see: Brokeback Mountain, Milk, or Boys Don’t Cry) being queer we’re told is hard, but being out, even if it means facing discrimination, violence even death, is 'honest' and 'true' thus the preferred state. In real life things are far more complicated.
It is a false dichotomy that people are either closeted or out. They can be out to some people, and not others. This is in fact, the norm for most LGBTQ+ people. What does being out really mean, anyway? That you know you’re queer; that everyone who knows you knows it? Do you have to tell everyone you meet? If you don’t, are you still “out”?
The historical context of Coming Out Day is in the 80s and the the midst of the AIDS crisis when it was founded in the US as Natonal Coming Out Day. The mainstream media regularly associated gay as equivalent of depraved, diseased and deserving of death, AIDS was even referred to by some as 'divine retribution'. National Coming Out Day was an attempt to reframe being LGB as positive and to make coming out empowering. There is an easy appeal of this reasoning and for some people, coming out is an important milestone, a chance to take ownership of their identity(ies) and experiences. Ideally the news is greeted with warmth and cheer.
However, Coming Out Day also perpetuates the very thing that needs to be eradicated to ensure queer liberation: heteronormativity and patriarchy. The assumption that straight and cisgendered are “normal” the universal default setting, that all other sexual orientations and gender identities are an  aberration. Dorothy Parker said it best “Heterosexuality isn’t normal, it’s just common”.
Having a day dedicated to LGBTQ+ people coming out emphasises coming out as a LGBTQ+ only experience. Cisgendered-straight people don’t have to come out, because everyone is assumed to be straight and cisgendered until they say otherwise.
There is a tendency to over-emphasize coming out as some defining element of someone’s identity, that fails to recognise the incremental nature of the process. Coming out is not safe for everyone in all contexts, it is not the most important part of an LGBTQ+ individuals lived experience. The most important part is knowing yourself.
The “closet” is oft framed as a dark, unhappy place. Being “out” is stepping into the light and being honest and free, but free from what? Given the disproportionate number of homeless young people who identify as LGBTQ+, who cite their identity as a factor in their homelessness it is worth considering this narrative critically. In an ideal world everyone would be free to come out without fear, statistics* show we are not yet in that ideal world. There is no right or wrong way to be queer. People don’t have to tell anyone any details about their lives if they don’t want to. People need to do what is best for them.
Personally want to see more LGBTQ+ visibility, but not at any individual person’s expense  but I think we must move away from the prevailing idea that queer people must be out to be valid, that queer people must always put the community ahead of their own needs, or that or speaking their identity aloud is the culmination or apotheosis of their identity.

Where Can I Take My Dog? To The Beach?
It is hard to imagine many places a dog is happier than at a beach. Whether running around on the sand, jumping in the water, digging a hole or just lying in the sun, every dog deserves a day at the beach. But all too often dog owners stopping at a sandy stretch of beach are met with signs designed to make hearts - human and canine alike - droop: NO DOGS ON BEACH. Below is a quick traveling tour of America's beaches with each state ranked from the most dog-friendly (****) to the worst (*). https://namingyourdog.weebly.com/blog/selecting-memorable-dog-names
Tumblr media
DOGS ON ATLANTIC OCEAN BEACHES (traveling North to South)
The rocky coast of Maine (***) is mesmerizing to look at but doesn't leave much room for sandy beaches. Dogs are generally banned from the beaches at the many small state parks along the Maine coast, but dog owners will find more friendly sands on the town beaches. Around Portland, the state's biggest city, and the tourist towns of the Southern Coast dogs are often allowed on the beach anytime Labor Day to Memorial Day and in the mornings and evenings during the summer. The spectacular Acadia National Park is one of America's most dog-friendly national parks but does not allow dogs on its beaches.
It is lucky for dog lovers that New Hampshire (*) has only 18 miles of coastline. State beaches and parks don't allow dogs on the sand at all. If you must stop in New Hampshire, try the Grand Island Common in New Castle or Foss Beach in Rye during the off-season from October to late May.
Around Boston, the beaches of the North Shore are off-limits to dogs during the summer but other towns in Massachusetts (****) are more generous - dogs are usually allowed year-round with restrictive hours in the summer. Cape Cod, however, is the best destination for beach-loving dogs in New England. Cape Cod National Seashore, America's first national seashore, allows dogs on the beach anytime outside the swimming areas (and not on the trails). The curviture of the Cape limits sightlines down the beach and gives the park the impression of being comprised of a series of dune-backed private coves. The two tourist islands off southern Cape Cod, Nantucket and Martha's Vineyard, are both extremely dog- friendly - on Nantucket, dogs can even take the shuttle to the beach.
The beaches of Rhode Island (**) are kept dog-free during the summer but if you take the ferry to Block Island, dogs can enjoy the black sand beaches throughout the year. In Newport, you can take your dog on the fabled Cliff Walk (poop bags are provided at the trailhead) through the backyards of America's rich and famous. The hike begins at Bailey's Beach, which welcomes dogs from Labor Day to Memorial Day.
The sandy beaches of Connecticut (*) are not known for being dog-friendly. But many aren't that friendly to people either, with restricted access being common. If your dog is hankering to try the benign waves of the Long Island Sound, stop in Groton. Dogs are not allowed to experience America's most famous beach at Coney Island in Brooklyn.
The further east you go out on Long Island the more dog-friendly New York (**) becomes but whether on the north shore or south shore you can find a place to get your dog to the sea. Dog owners must pass on the prime destinations at Jones Beach and Fire Island National Seashore until reaching the Hamptons, where the tails of surf-loving dogs will start wagging. Many towns in the Hamptons offer dog- friendly sand and at Montauk, on the very tip of Long Island, several beaches allow dogs year-round, including Gin Beach on the Block Island Sound. The wide, white- sand beaches of the Jersey shore are some of America's most popular and there isn't much space for a dog to squeeze into in the summertime.
Most of the beaches in New Jersey (***), including the Sandy Hook Unit of the Gateway National Recreation Area, open to dogs in the off-season. Summertime visitors should take their dogs to Island Beach State Park, one of the last undeveloped stretches at the Jersey Shore. Pets are allowed on the non-recreational beaches in this ten-mile oasis. Dogs will never get to trot down the historic wooden planks of the Atlantic City boardwalk, however - no dogs are permitted on the beach or boardwalk of the Grande Dame of America's seaside resorts. Dogs are also not allowed anywhere in the Victorian village of Cape May but dog lovers can travel south of town to Sunset Beach, a sand strip at the southernmost point of the Jersey shore that is actually on the Delaware Bay. In the water offshore of "Dog Beach" are the remains of the Atlantis, a unique concrete ship built to transport soldiers in World War I.
Tumblr media
Off-season, the sandy beaches in Delaware (****) are a paradise for dogs. Two state parks, Cape Henlopen and Delaware Seashore, both welcome dogs between October 1 and May 1. During the summer season dogs can also share the beach with their owners on select stretches of sand in Delaware state parks. In Cape Henlopen, the 80-foot high Great Dune is the highest sand pile on the Atlantic shore between Cape Cod and Cape Hatteras. The concrete observation towers standing as silent sentinels along Delaware beaches were built to bolster America's coastal defenses during World War II. Summer vacationers can take dogs on the Dewey Beach town beach in the mornings and evenings. Along the Delaware Bay just north of Cape Henlopen you can find several beaches that offer frisky wave action and wide swaths of sandy beach - and best of all there are no restrictions against dogs on the bay beaches.
The Assateague Island National Seashore is the prime destination for dog owners heading for the beach in Maryland (***). The undeveloped dunesland permits dogs year-round on the beach and in the campgrounds (but not on the short nature trails). Keep your dog alert for the wild ponies that live on the island. Its neighbor to the north, Assateague State Park, often celebrated as one of the best state parks in America, is off-limits to dogs. If you are not roughing it on your trip to the Maryland seashore, nearby Ocean City allows dogs on the beach and boardwalk between October 1 and May 1. Traveling along the Chesapeake Bay, dogs are banned from the thin beaches in Maryland state parks. Exceptions are the small beach in the former amusement park at North Point State Park and the beach north of the causeway at Point Lookout State Park.
There is plenty to like for beach-loving dogs in Virginia (***). Canine romps on the clean, wide sands of Virginia Beach's "Strip," the commercial oceanfront from 1st Street to 40th Street, can't begin until the day after Labor Day but during the summer dogs are allowed on residential beaches above 41st Street before 10 a.m and afer 6 p.m. Dogs can jump in the ocean anytime at Cape Henry on Fort Story, where the Atlantic Ocean meets the Chesapeake Bay. Fort Story is an active military base, the only installation devoted to coastal operations, but its uncrowded, pristine beaches are open to the public and dogs. Just to the west is First Landing State Park, where canine swimming is allowed on unguarded sandy beaches. Check for seasonal restrictions against dogs in these places. Just off-shore are views of the Chesapeake Bay Bridge-Tunnel, one of the seven modern engineering marvels of the world. Each span of the 17.6-mile crossing utilizes more than 2,500 concrete piles to support the trestles.
Except for designated wildlife areas, dogs are permitted on the beach year-round virtually everywhere on the Outer Banks in North Carolina (****). Cape Hatteras Natonal Seashore has only four swimming beaches (in season) on its entire 70 miles of protected coastline which leaves plenty of open sand for the dog to roam. Seafaring dogs can reach Ocracoke Island and Cape Lookout National Seashore by ferry or private boat for many miles of more undeveloped, dog-friendly beaches. The northern part of the barrier islands has been rapidly developing in the past decade but where you can still find access to the beach, unleashed dogs are sill allowed year-round in towns like Duck and Corolla. Mainland North Carolina beaches on Cape Fear are almost as dog-friendly; most swimming beaches restrict dogs only during the day in the summer.
South Carolina (****) ranks among the most dog-friendly beach states on the Atlantic seaboard. Get away from the people and commercial beaches and there is plenty of unrestricted sand for dogs in the Palmetto state. Most of the smaller towns allow dogs on the beach under voice control and only Myrtle Beach (from 21st Avenue North to 13th Avenue South) bans dogs completely. One of the best places to take dogs here is Hunting Island State Park. More than one million visitors (human) come here each year, 85 miles south of Charleston, to enjoy three miles of unspoiled beach.
Georgia (**) doesn't sport much coastline and many of the beaches on Georgia's barrier islands and the Golden Isles are under control of resorts and most welcome dogs except during the middle of the day in summer. Cumberland Island National Seashore permits dogs but is accessible only by private boat. Savannah's beach at Tybee Island is closed to dogs.
Florida (*) ranks among the most dog-unfriendly of states. Entire counties and regions ban dogs from the beach. There are so many prohibitions already against dogs on Florida beaches that when they change, it is typically in favor of dog owners. For the Atlantic beaches, the northeast part of the state around Jacksonville (Amelia Island) offers some of the best beaches for dogs in the state but heading south below Daytona, dogs are almost universally banned from the sand. Jupiter, on the Treasure Coast, is one place you can find a break from the ubiquitous NO DOGS ON BEACH signs. Fort Lauderdale has thrown dog owners a tiny bone - they have set up a 100-yard long Dog Beach (at Sunrise and A1A) on Saturdays and Sundays only from 3:00 to 6:00 p.m.
DOGS ON GULF OF MEXICO BEACHES (traveling East to West)
The Gulf Coast beaches in Florida (*) offer precious little for dog owners. Dogs were once associated as closely with the Florida Keys as conch shells but today you have to look hard for a beach to take your dog. Anne's Beach in Lower Matecumbe and Sombrero Beach in Marathon are two safe places. In Key West the "Dog Beach" is at Waddell and Vernon avenues but there is really just enough sand to accommodate one good beach blanket and the little amount of swimming available is treacherous over coral outcroppings. On the Suncoast, seek out Bonita Beach Dog Park north of Naples, the excellent Fort DeSoto Dog Beach and Park in St. Petersburg and the Dog Beach on Honeymoon Island in the Dunedin area. Head for Franklin County, though, where dogs are allowed on all the public beaches - and the only county in Florida to allow dogs to run free. On the Florida Panhandle the Gulf Islands National Seashore is the only national seashore that bans dogs completely. It is the same story in town after town on the Gulf of Mexico across Florida. Near Panama City, dogs can reach the water on Carrabelle Beach and Bruce Beach. At Saint Andrews State Beach, a past winner of "The Best Beach In America," dogs can hike the sandy nature trails and run on the beach of the Grand Lagoon. It isn't actually the Gulf of Mexico or the Best Beach In America, but you can them from here.
For dog owners, Alabama (*) may as well not even have the few beaches it does on the Gulf of Mexico.
In Mississippi (**) dog owners need to stay on the western coast in Hancock County; dogs aren't allowed around the populated Biloxi beaches.
People don't seek out Louisiana (*) for its sandy beaches; most of the coastline is made up of bayous. Grand Isle State Park is the only state park with access to the Gulf of Mexico and dogs are allowed in non-swimming areas here.
In Texas (***), Padre Island is America's longest barrier island and there is plenty of room for dogs on its 113 miles of sand. At Padre Island National Seashore dogs are allowed anywhere except on the deck at Malaquite Beach and in front of the Visitor Center at the Swimming Beach. Galveston Island serves up another 32 miles of mostly dog-friendly beach.
DOGS ON PACIFIC OCEAN BEACHES (traveling North to South)
Dogs on leash are allowed in all Washington (***) state parks, often on the beach, but not in many swimming areas around Puget Sound. No dogs are allowed on beaches in the city of Seattle. The uncrowded Pacific Coast beaches are some of the dog-friendliest in America - even Olympic National Park, which bans dogs from almost all of its 632,324 acres, opens some of its remote coastal beaches to dogs. Dogs are allowed on almost all beaches on the Washington coast as long as they remain out of the active swimming areas.
All of the beaches in Oregon (****) are public. You can step on every grain of Oregon sand for 400 miles and, in the rare exception of a ban due to nesting birds, your dog can be with you all the way. One beach dog owners won't want to miss is the Oregon Dunes National Recreation Area with its 40 miles of sandy shore. These are the biggest dunes in the United States - as tall as 500 feet and reaching two and one-half miles inland at their widest point.
Northern California (****) would get plenty of votes from beach-loving dogs for having the best beaches in America. Only a beach here and there restricts dogs from its sand on the North Coast. Even in the highly populated areas, concessions are made for dog owners. In Marin County a "Dog Beach" has been set aside on the north end of Stinson Beach and many towns allow dogs on the beach under voice control. San Francisco ranks among the dog-friendliest of beach cities. Take your dog to the Golden Gate National Recreation Area and have your pick of several designated dog-friendly beach areas. At Baker Beach, dogs are allowed to romp off- leash. Further down the coast, dog owners will want to visit the Monterey Peninsula. Dogs are welcome to run on the Carmel City Beach and can slip into the water near Monterey and Pacific Grove as well. At Big Sur dogs can enjoy one of the prettiest secluded beaches on the coast a Pfeiffer Beach. Skip Santa Cruz and there are plenty of opportunites to get your dog on the sand in California's Central Coast, especially on unnamed beaches.
Heading south on the California coast the water warms up and beach restrictions on dogs increase accordingly. There is still sand time for dogs in Oxnard and Ventura but things are getting bleak as dog owners reach Santa Barbara. In Los Angeles County the beaches are for people. In Southern California (**), San Diego is the place for sand-loving dogs. Several popular beaches have set aside "dog beaches" that attract hundreds of dogs. Every day is a beach day for dogs in San Diego.
DOGS ON GREAT LAKES BEACHES (traveling West to East)
Possessing the largest surface area of any freshwater lake in the world, there is enough water in Lake Superior (**) to easily fill the other four Great Lakes to overflowing. Lake Superior is known for its cold water and rugged shoreline but there are some sandy beaches scattered across its 300 or so miles of southern shores. Other beaches are more of the cobble variety. Most of the shoreline is sparsely populated which bodes well for finding a dog-friendly beach. In Michigan, the Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore allows dogs on the beach from Twelvemile Beach Campground to Au Sable Lighthouse and at Munising, dogs can dig in the sand at Miners Beach. At Sand Point, dogs can play on the beach until the trail begins to climb the cliffs. In Wisconsin, dogs are allowed on the beach in Ashland and in Minnesota, dogs can swim in Lake Superior at Duluth's Park Point Beach.
Dogs will have to admire the spectacular dunes and sandy beaches of the eastern shore of Lake Michigan (**) mostly from the car as dogs are not allowed on Michigan state beaches and most county and town beaches. In-season, the metropolises of Indiana, Illinois and Wisconsin are even more restrictive. Chicago has recently gotten its first official dog beach at Montrose Avenue. Belmont Beach is not an official Chicago beach so dogs are allowed on this small patch of sand in a fenced area. In nearby Evanston licensed and vaccinated dogs are allowed on Dog Beach but a beach token is required for non-residents from May to October which costs $80 to $100. Your best bets to dip into Lake Michigan, the only Great Lake totally within the United States, are the national lakeshores and the state parks of Wisconsin's Door County. At the Indiana Dunes National Lakeshore dogs are restricted to the easternmost beaches at Mt. Baldy and Central Avenue until October when all beaches open to our four-legged friends. In the Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore, dogs can swim in the waves of Lake Michigan backed by some of America's larges dunes on all beaches except Platte Point Beach, the D.H. Day Campground Beach and the Manitou Islands. Dogs also cannot make the Dune Climb up hundreds of feet of sand.
Lake Huron (*) features 3,827 miles of shoreline, characterized by shallow water and many sandy beaches. None of this will matter much to your dog, however, since the Lake Huron beaches in Michigan are mostly closed to him. Alpena is a rare exception. Dogs are allowed on the resort destination of Macinac Island, however.
Although its shores are the most densely populated of any of the Great Lakes, there is plenty of opportunity for a dog to explore Lake Erie (***). The smallest of the five lakes, Erie waters average only about 62 feet in depth and warm rapidly in the summer for happy dog paddling. Ohio, especially around Cleveland, is the most restrictive of the Lake Erie states. Try some of the smaller town beaches in Ohio and New York, most of which permit dogs outside of designated swimming areas. Some of the best Lake Erie beachfront is in Presque Isle State Park, the most-visited state park in Pennsylvania. Your dog can can hike the sandytrails past the swimming beaches and enjoy the waves on the long, unsupervised sretches on the northern end of the peninsula.
Tumblr media
Not many people have settled most of the hundreds of miles of shoreline of the south side of Lake Ontario (*) in New York. There aren't many beaches and not many bans on dogs - as long as they don't try to swim with the humans.

Below is a quick traveling tour of America's beaches with each state ranked from the most dog-friendly (****) to the worst (*). https://sites.google.com/view/girldognamess/unique-dog-names
Tumblr media
Tumblr media

What do you think about multiculturalism and it’s effects on culture loss? Please don’t interpret me as some white nationalist, I’m just curious from a culture standpoint. I’ve lived in both types(diverse & one culture) and though I love both, I feel like there’s more harmony and community when one culture is dominant. Please please don’t poison me with your serpent tongue; I don’t want to offend anybody😖
ah, no poison here, worry not - even though this question does bear the tedious trace of ill-meaning dogwhistles - I understand where you are coming from.
now, since you ask for my personal opinion, let this answer be personal, if not a tad subjective - and anecdotal, perhaps, to some degree.
I have found that harmony does not exist in communities as none are homogenous - while a country might be homogenous (or nearly so, purely homogenous states are much much rarer than anyone might think) racially or ethnically, or when it comes to religion, it will never be homogenous or equal in terms of, for example, class. wealth, education, orientation.
the lack of harmony rarely comes from the sheer fact of many cultures colliding - it happens when they collide on uneven terms. one is inferior, repressed, mocked - another claims superiority and takes hold of land, influence, media. one is agressive and another one is not - or they are both agressive, in different or similar ways.
most often, this lack of harmony - this collision - is orchestrated by the chosen few, who have an agenda to suit their own needs. there is money to be made on hatred, money to be made on fear.
now, two of my main point:
Poland is quite a homogenous country, let us say - Catholic and /white/. the truth is of course much more complicated and there would be no Poland without the great and wonderful mixing of cultures and religions, but let us say it is homogenous.
or desires to be.
harmony aside - there is none - our culture and tradition is getting forgotten. neglected. tainted.
people are so used to this comfortable and convenient “homogeneity” that they do not seek our own culture out, they do not yearn to learn the roots. they do not cultivate it. they allow the chosen few to dictate narratives far from truth and far from care, and believe them without checking. they rely on lies, so often, attractive stories that have little to do with truth and do nothing to better us “as a naton.” they care for history only as far as it makes us out to be a hero, or a martyr. language is not being taught properly - old roots and rules get forgotten, while new fascinating phenomena are branded dumb and western (ironically). tales, folk traditions, songs, literature are being ignored. what is the point? it’s Polish so it has to be good, right? why pay attention? it’s better than that German/Ukrainian/Arab/American/Jewish shit or whatever.
there is no harmony even among people who care for this one dominant culture - because you will always be “different” and “wrong” is that is how they want to see you.
I care for our culture so much - and yet I am attacked, because I care about it wrongly. I am a woman, non-heteronormative, progressive. I want to share the culture and not hoard it until it rots - and that’s wrong, and disgusting, and I should die.
our culture dissolves, it rots, it becomes thin and superficial and weak - those proud of homogeneity care little for any actual culture, even if they shout really loud and paste national symbols over everything.
but then - another culture comes. and another one. harmony or not, there is more. and there’s a sudden drive, by those passionate and excited, and even by those who do not spend too much time thinking about such processes.
three Vietnamese families moved next to us. neighbours made faces, comments. these families were talking more among themselves, their language strange to our ears. foreigners, in culture and language and skin.
they brought some traditional Vietnamese food to greet our neighbourhood. one of the ladies showed us a traditional costume from her maiden city. children were making something inspired by their folk craft, and smugly showing it to our Polish kids.
and then? out of passion but also out of sheer spite, our families started doing stuff.
searching for old cook books to cook the most Polish dish ever, and see their reaction. finding old photos when girls danced in folk bands, all skirts and flower wreaths, and showing them off. men went on and on about Polish cars, and inventions, and the pride they took in their work here. I overheard kids saying “W Szczebrzeszynie chrząszcz brzmi w trzcinie!” to watch them be surprised, suddenly so proud of our ridiculous language.
one grandfather listened to a recording of some old Vietnamese song they played. he didn’t like it - and they asked him if he knows any old songs from when he fought in war or when he was a boy.
he did not remember any.
he spent the next entire day googling old songs with the help of his grandkids until he found one he actually remembered - he sang it with his friends a lot during the miners’ celebrations. he tried to hide his emotions, but he didn’t do too well. grandchildren helped him translate in hesitant English the meaning of the simple song, and the Vietnamese family loved it. that pride in his eyes!
those families haven’t, for years and years, paid that much attention to our culture as they did when they wanted to brag, to share, to show that we do have culture too!
now, this fear of the clash, lack of harmony, and strangers trying to rule over you we all understand all too well - it is a shared subconscious fear, most often.
that is why all cultures have to learn to be better - learn to be respectful, know boundaries.
but mainly grow up. love their tradition, cultivate their language and folk customs - but abandon hatred, hunger for power and control over others (even, or especially, within their own culture). when nations grow, they learn to grow together.
we can all be so much richer - but it is far from ideal paradise. it is a difficult process that has to happen slowly and on equal terms, where all parties understand what freedom is - where it begins and where it ends.
for now there is so much inequality, war, and hatred - but multiculturalism is not the root of those. hurtful attitudes, hunger for power and control, and money are.

Critical Analysis
Poritz, J.A., Rees, J. (2016) Education Is Not an App: The future of university teaching in the Internet age, 6 pp. 72-73
Word Count: 1072
For my critical analysis, I chose Jonathan Poritz, who has a Ph.D. The book is co-authored with Jonathan Rees and is called “Education Is Not an App: The future of university teaching in the Internet age”. I chose this book as the source of my analysis because it critically analyses the relationship between media technology and education, and emphasises that media technology has great potential, but control is a key factor in whether education is used for good or bad purposes. This book will serve as a valuable guide for teachers and anyone interested in the future of higher education. In this article, there are many knowledge points I am not familiar with, at the same time, the author uses of critical thinking research methods, which will guide my future self-development process.
Dr. Poritz is an associate professor of mathematics. He has a doctorate in the University of Chicago in 1992 and a bachelor's degree in Harvard in 1985. He has three patents on computer security, including "Education is not an Application: The Political Economy of the University Teaching in the Times of the Internet" with Jonathan Reese (August 2016, Routledge). I will focus on the sixth chapter of the book: Learning Management Systems.
In the first part, the author focuses on the analysis of the concept of education in action and the introduction of the learning management system (LMS). The author introduces that LMS covers all or almost all the functions needed by modern university pedagogy. Students and teachers can use their school accounts to log in or access them. At the same time, LMS is divided into free and non-free versions, and commercial LMS has more different service levels, including some locally hosted and minimum support ports. However, Dr. Poritz believes that LMS's closed software and data ecosystem both have advantages and several flaws. By analysing the characteristics of LMS, Dr. Poritz holds that the closed line of LMS limits the learning environment of students, hinders the open Internet, especially leads to the lack of innovation among students, and does not allow the content placed within the system to be shared outside it. This makes sense since most of the work done by students one any learning materials never leave the university intranet which means the knowledge is not shared with others.
In the next part of this article, Dr. Poritz draws parallels between LMS and the information leak  that took place in 2012 exposing the Natonal Security Agently (NSA) keeping surveillance of the global Internet by working with Internet companies to allow the installation of interception devices and software for data collection functions, an incident that led to calls, especially outside the United States, to prevent surveillance. Dr. Poritz refers to the segregation of the Internet into pieces which are controlled locally, i.e. being surveilled locally, and reminds the reader of this phenomenon called Balkanization of the Internet. The author thinks that Balkanization can bring many disasters, because the biggest benefit of the Internet is its openness and global scope. Then, the author supports the argument by referring to sociological research (Burt, 2004) where (social) network structures promote the emergence of new ideas and must be connected. The author's main argument is that curbing the open Internet is discouraging innovation. By combining the Internet with LMS, the author thinks that LMS separates educational activities from the open Internet, which can have a detrimental impact on teaching since anything learnt on campus will never leave the university grounds and have no educational impact on others. Dr. Poritz also believes that academic freedom is restricted, specific and dangerous through the use of the closed system.
Dr.Poritz believes that upgrades of layout tools and choices are not driven by the needs of students and professors. He supports his argument by stating that if a salesperson would occasionally change students’ stationary without asking them first, this would not be left unnoticed. However, sotware upgrades are never consulted with the end user.
Next, the author argues that online study content remains within the bounds of a closed infrastructure not leaving any scope for sharing it with others or allowing any further contributions. The author refers to it as being ‘locked in a proprietary format within the LMS’ thus blocking it from others.
The last part of the article explains the legal complexity of LMS. The author emphasises that users publishing information on LMS must comply with all copyright laws used and it is not made clear who owns the content placed on the system, whether it is the software owners or the universities. He also states that to date, no software owners have claimed their rights to the content and it is not clear who may own the whole course since the legality in this case is quite intricate. Moreover, if the software licence is not renewed, it is not clear what happens to the content previously placed on the system.
Overall, this article offers the reader an opportunity to think about the use of a closed university intranet from a more critical perspective. The author through a variety of research and comparative methods argues that there is a relationship between the Internet technology and education but draws the reader’s attention to the idea that maybe this type of education may not bring in innovation and retrict academic freedom and affect course content copyright. By illustrating his arguments, the author allows the reader to wonder if LMS is actually beneficial for any organisation. However, Dr. Poritz does not provide actual evidence that LMS is not good for those that use it while on the course mostly arguing that the features of the software may not allow for the content to be either shared with others or remain in the possession of the Higher Education institutions that use it.   Overall, I agree with almost all of the author's arguments. This article has made me realise there is a new side of education. Hence, the reader is able to understand that the benefits of the closed learning platforms may be debatable and may lead to lack of innovation and contribution of creative ideas to the rest of the world, thus, making this learning meaningless and going against the socialogical research theory making it similar to the work produced by students as a hard copy and stored on shelves being inaccessible to others in the rest of the world.

CRUISE SHIP BATTLE.....GOVERNMENT OVERREACH
The handwriting is on the wall. The State will win the battle. At this point. Does not mean the war.
The cruise lines, politics, and certain local businessmen have called in the IOUs. To the legislators, dance with us on this issue.
The City will be left with one alternative. Appeal!
The City has already spent a ton of money on the referendum and the fight since. More money will have to be spent. Do the right thing. The City owes the voters that much.
If the cost of an appeal is a concern, think of all the money pissed away when the City makes contract mistakes, overpays someone, etc. Don’t blow it here. Be on the side of the righteous. Those who put you in office.
What galls me is even some of our State representative(s) initially supported the cruise lines, etc. Till some one brought to their attention they did not know what they were talking about.
Another galling aspect is the excuses being given on the floor of both State Houses. The real reason for the battle with the cruise lines is it is not being described properly by the shipping magnates to State representatives.
Let’s not get screwed. This is a battle that must be fought. Regardless of cost.
It will also send a message. Don’t tread on little Key West! The town can be a David when required.
On April 23, 1982, the Florida Keys seceded from the Union. The reason being the Border Patrol having established a road block at Florida City to check the citizenship of everyone leaving Monroe County.
Dennis Wardlow was the primary defector. He had become the Prime Minister of the new naton. Aptly named the Conch Republic.
The Conch Republic seceded the same day it was formed. Surrendered that same day shortly after seceding. Demanded reparations and financial assistance.
Big trees from little acorns grow! The creation of the Conch Republic has become a big deal. Offices, flags, passports, a navy and air force, etc.
Each year a big celebration is had celebrating the event. From my perspective, the best part of the celebration is the War between the Conch Republic and the  U.S.
The Conch Republic fighting from pirate ships. Their crews dressed as pirates. Throwing rotten tomatoes, heads of lettuce, etc. at the U.S. vessels. The vessels being modern ships of today’s U.S. Coast Guard.
Jets from Boca Chica fly over to engage the Conch Republic’s bi-planes. The Conch Republic bombing the Coast Guard vessels with unfurling rolls of toilet paper.
The celebration is a perfect example as to what Key West is all about. How we live and act.
I wish the Pier House would hurry and reopen the Chart Room. I am out in the world again and miss my old hangout.
I met and chatted with many people every night at the Chart Room. About 10 years ago, a tourist who was the Chief of Police of some community in the midwest.
From 1962-1965, I was General Counsel to the Police Conference of New York Inc. Two years out of law school when I got the job. Had an Albany office. I was a registered lobbyist.
One of my primary tasks was getting legislation passed that would protect police officers. It was the beginning. Protections did not exist. Today, police have formal unions representing them. The unions have been successful in getting laws adopted that we did not even think about in the early 1960s. Like qualified immunity, for example.
The Chief and I had an interesting 2 hour discussion in the Chart Room. I was shocked by the stories he was telling me. The black problem. How dangerous it was to be a policeman. Etc.
A different world had developed. The world that exists today. The world which hopefully now is in a state of flux because of the conviction in the Floyd case.
I believe Biden is doing a good job. Fighting the forces of evil so as to make the U.S. a better place to live. Also, to correct many Trump created problems.
I sense a different problem developing, however. Is the U.S. going to spend itself into oblivion? A trillion here, a trillion there. It adds up. Soon the U.S. debt payments per year will exceed the country’s next most expensive budget item.
My sense is Biden hopes/anticipates increasing corporate taxes as one way of paying the bill. The other is to get programs such as infrastructure moving. Increased wages alone will increase tax collections.
Never forget what Biden is facing today as regards money was faced by Franklin Delano Roosevelt when he first took office. The depression at its peak.
He had programs pushed into law. Each required the government to spend heaps of money.
Republicans knocked him constantly. He was going to bankrupt the nation.
Roosevelt succeeded and Biden can too.
The U.S. yesterday lifted its “pause” on the Johnson & Johnson vaccine. Ok to use. Safe.
The facts support the result. Thus far, nearly 8 million Johnson & Johnson vaccine shots have been given. Are you aware of the number of the number of the 8 million persons who developed blood clots? Fifteen!
As U.S. officials said yesterday, the benefits of the shot far outweigh the risk of a rare blood clot disorder.
The question at the moment is how the public will react to receiving the Johnson & Johnson vaccine. There are 9.5 million doses siting on shelves waiting to be used.
Enjoy your day!
