Nessian Headcanon

Cassian is a bundle of nervous energy in the days leading up to the birth of his and Nesta’s baby. Like physically jittery, hot to the touch, eyes practically glowing, not quite fae. Nesta simply sits in the corner of the room, eyeing him, then getting back to her reading. After several hours of Cas literally just pacing back and forth, anxiously pulling his hair, she finally screams “cassian I swear on the cauldron, if our baby is born and the first thing they see is their father impersonating a fucking radioactive bouncy ball I’ll kill you.”

Soooo, I hope that this is alright to request. I can't really pick between a ship for this b/c I love them and how you write them so much. So, if you don't mind, could you write about the reactions of Feysand, Rowaelin, and Nessian + Azriel (...Nesriel?? IDK) to reader getting poisoned by an enemy (reader lives, but is left feeling very, very weak and ill)?? If you just want to do one or two that's fine... I was just curious to see how some of them might react :).

It happened while visiting the court of nightmares

You felt like an idiot, you always check your drinks or have Azriel’s shadows check

When you wake up 2 days later you were more embarrassed than anything. Especially passing out in the middle of the Court of Nightmares, like what a rookie move

Cassian and Azriel jump into action as Rhys scoops you to his chest. Feyre unleashes her claws, practically growling in Kier's direction. Rhys grabs her and winnows the three of you home to an awaiting Madja

thankfully you healed quickly. whoever poisned you clearly didn't get their dosage right

you still feel weak and get tired easily during the day for a few weeks

the first thing you see is Rhys and Feyre casually chatting. you watch them for a bit before reaching for Feyre's hand that's casually draped on the bed

they jump at your movement and are overjoyed that you're finally awake

if you thought they were doting and overly fussy about you when you have the sniffles, think again. these two are unbearable!

Rhys carries you everywhere. it was a struggle to convince them to let you out of bed so this was the compromise

the poison had weakend you to the point where lifting your arms was a chore. Feyre had decided to feed you even though most of the time you gave her an I'm-going-to-kill-you look

you considered yourself lucky though. to have mates that take care of you is a blessing

Rowaelin

Furious doesn’t even begin to describe how Rowan and Aelin felt

everything was fine, dinner was going great. this new alliance with a kingdom bordering Wendlyn seemed promising

until you polished off your wine. you turned pale and Rowan immediately scented that something was wrong with you

you passed out, collapsing from your chair. the dining room fell into chaos as soon as Fenrys sniffed your glass and announced you'd been poisoned

the guests were ushered out and taken to another room to be interrogated while Rowan rushes you to your shared bedroom, Yrene following and ready to draw the poison from your system

you woke up two days later with Fleetfoot watching over you, her golden head laying on your stomach. her big brown eyes staring at you. petting Fleetfoot behind the ears she shakes your hand off after having her fill. leaping off the bed the large golden beast sits by the door and begins to howl as loud as she possibly can

the queen and king coming running, almsot breaking down the door

Fleetfoot wags her tail at the sight of Aelin, running back over to sit next to the bed as your mates approach

the pair throw themselves down next to you, squishing you between them carefully. "We were so worried, oh gods." Aelin breathes out as Rowan repeatedly kisses your face

(like Feysand) the two of them don't let you lift a finger. Rowan never gets to do this for Aelin so he babies you to the max

from helping you walk and work out the muscels in your body to feeding and bathing you he does everything for you

Aelin spoild you with attention and treats. you two spend all her free time snuggled up in bed eating junk food

Nesriel

they each have a very different (yet extreme and justified) reaction

Azriel starts threatening people with Nesta, who lets her power rumble through the room, flames cupped in her hands

Cassian is getting you the hell out of there and to Madja

Cass doesn't let go of you for a single second while the healers pulls the poison from your body. he presses kisses to your temple and whispers sweet nothings as you writhe in pain from the poison being extracted

while you sleep for a week they hover over you, watching over you like hawkes

Azriel sleeps sitting up in a chair next to the bed while Nesta sleeps next to you, playing with your hair so you feel soothed in your unconcious state

when you wake up you're startled to find Cassian curled up at the end of the bed like a dog, Azriel in a chair, and Nesta next to you

Az's shadows go haywire next to his ears, alerting him to your conciousness. the shadows rush to alert Cass and Nes who perk up immediately

Nesta sits up, holding your face in her hands, "oh thank gods, you're ok." she coos on the verge of tears

even though you're weak you force your arm to move so you can hold her wrist. "I'm ok," you whisper

you all thought Cassian would be the more doting/crazy one but it turns out to be Nesta

she freaks out every time Az or Cass move you, worried about your comfort levels or if you're in pain. she yells at them if you even wince, "Careful! you're hurting her!" they always give her the same exasperated look as you giggle

when they find out who poisoned you Cassian tells you and stays with you. meanwhile Az lets Nesta tag along to the interrogation

he even let Nesta participate and she did not hold back. making this guy feel the worst pain he has ever endured

Okay so a little headcanon/theory I have is that because the Archeron sisters retain a part of their human dna, they can have babies more easily and quicker than other fae. Which would explain why Feysand got pregnant quickly (other than sjm wanting them to have a baby cause she was pregs at the time 😭).

Now to add to this, I think it’s fairly uncommon for fae to have multiple babies at a time, so if a twin pregnancy happens it’s seen as a gift from the Mother. And because the fae struggle with conception they’ve never had any pregnancy more than one or twins. Never triplets or quadruplets. And twins only happen every so often.

Now, my headcanon is that when Nessian finally decide to have babies they break free of the faes conception “rules”. Lmao the first pregnancy they have triplet girls and when they are told this Nesta passes out in the Prythian equivalent obgyn office and Cassian’s just like: 😝😝. And I say all three are girls because nes+cass embody girl parent vibes. Like Nesta is the mom who wears matching outfits and hairstyles with her girls and Cass is the dad who wears matching tutus when playing “princesses” with his girls and paints his nails the same colors. Anyways, the fae see this as a sign from the mother and throw this huge celebration party much to Nesta’s dismay. She has the house do research on how the hell it’s even possible for the first pregnancy to happen so quickly AND for it to be triplets. No reason is found though.

The Illyrians see it as a sign of evilness and say it’s because Nesta is a witch and now she’ll have her own coven😭. Cassian of course punishes any of his soldiers that say this by making them do flying maneuvers until they literally drop out of the sky.

The birth is awful and long and Nesta just wants to give up towards the end but Cassian shares his power with her and tells her how wonderful she’s doing and how amazed he is of her. The girls all three have wings. I see one of them looking exactly like cass, the other exactly like nes, and the third is the perfect mixture of each.

When it comes time to teach them how to fly, Cassian can’t stand the thought of them potentially getting hurt so he brings in uncle azzy and uncle rhysie to help. Nesta watches from a balcony on the house of wind. Of course the girls are naturals and get the hang of it after like an hour of practice and they take midnight flights every day with their daddy while mama gets some much needed rest.

After like another century Nes+Cass decide their ready for another and to their utter shock they get pregnant with triplet boys this time 😭. And Nesta’s just like: how the fuck has this happened again?!?!? And cass again is just: 😝😝. The girls are fiercely protective of their baby brothers and will start fights over them.

I see Nessian being the couple who names their children after I guess prythians version of Greek gods? Eventually they also decide to adopt some children from Illyria. I also see Nessian as the couple who have their own little army of offspring 😭spread out over centuries of course! But they don’t stop until they have a complete level of the HoW filled with their children lmao.

I think she could be a cool character but SJM hasn’t given us much in regards to the IC, even though they’ve been part of the series since the second book. Maybe she can rectify that in the next few books but I’m losing hope, especially after HOFAS🤷‍♀️

I absolutely adore Tarquin. I think he has the potential to be a really good HL, especially since the bar is so low😭

What's your unpopular opinion?

I don’t really LOVE any of the mating pairs we’ve gotten so far, but I’m still a ride or die for Elucien. But also, I loved the idea of feysand & nessian until they actually got together and now I’m doubting SJM’s ability to write a good, healthy romantic relationship. Which is a bit ironic.

What's your favourite headcanon/fan canon?

That Tamlin & Rhys had a brief, violently passionate love affair hundreds of years ago and that’s why there’s so much tension between them (outside of the family murders lol). On the flip side, I also like the idea of Tamlin having a romantic relationship with Rhys’s sister and that she didn’t really, but escaped through the Starlight pool w/ her mother and Tamlin glamoured random heads to look like theirs. That HC gives me peace because it actually utilizes the magical element in these books lmao

If you were swept away to Prythian, what's ONE thing you would want to do?

Oh baby I’m going to all of the Soltice parties. Especially in Spring & Summer. I’m avoiding all the warnings and heading straight to the faerie wine. And then I’m gonna stick realllll close to Tamlin during Calanmai 😏

If you could have ONE faerie ability seen in the books, which would it be?

Ooh probably shapeshifting. I know we haven’t seen too much of it from Tamlin or Feyre (which is a shame) but Lysandra from ToG made it seem so badass. I love it. Also, winnowing sounds amazing.

This will sound weird, but: Eris and his dogs. This, of course, has nothing to do with the fact that I have a dog myself and I find people who care about dogs to be incredibly hot.

Boy, do I have more than one. - Amren should've stayed dead. - Feyre was right in wanting to have a baby so soon. People can, and will, change their minds about anything. - Speaking of babies, Madja is at least partly to blame for the whole pregnancy debacle, and her medical license should be revoked. - Mor has smelled fishy to me ever since the very first moment, and her power of truth is scary as fuck. - Rhysand is a shitty High Lord. Feyre being crowned High Lady with absolutely zero experience is just yet another of Rhys's shitty decisions as a shitty High Lord. - What happened in the Ember and Randall bonus chapter from House of Flame and Shadow is not as controversial as anyone makes it to be. Both Nesta and Rhysand were right and wrong in their actions and decisions in that particular context, and Cassian made the smartest choice by pleading the fifth and not intervening.

What's your favourite headcanon/fan canon?

Everything related to the restoration of the Dusk Court, minus the Elriel implications.

If you were swept away to Prythian, what's ONE thing you would want to do?

Visiting at least three of the Day Court libraries.

If you could have ONE faerie ability seen in the books, which would it be?

Honestly, I would be content with a bit of "domestic" magic, like the one Rhysand displays at times in the books (washing one's body, cleaning one's clothes, make something appear or disappear, et cetera).

You know amidst all the wonderful discussions we have had in our small corner of the acotar community, a thing that has been on my mind since I've first joined and got invested in all of this in back in 2021, is the thing about the Archeron sister's transformation into fae and the aftermath of it. And my deep disappointment that the author like many other things in her books overlooks or only once briefly touchs upon. Like maybe it's partly because I have read admittedly a lot of vampire turning stories on where they have to adjust to their new reality, but realistically I think that all of the sisters shouldn't have accepted their circumstances that quickly. Like, the humans grew up on stories and tales of the fae, the fae still terrorized the humans on the other side of the wall all this time until Book 1 and past that, their fears are absolutely justified (no matter how Miss Maas tries to tell us the opposite, because what the fuck???) and bc of the sisters involvement they get pulled into the mess eventually, Elain and Nesta get kidnapped, their house burned to the ground and imprisoned for hours until they get dragged into a eldritch sentient cauldron and forcibly/painfully turned for an fairy king's test experimentation, for some kind of sick spectacle. And obviously this is deeply scarring. But like they should have had a lot more difficulty in their healing journeys to come to terms with their loss of humanity. From everything they ever knew and were completely uprooted and ripped away from. And now they should be apparently grateful for that? they should just adapt to fae culture like nothing without any problems? and completely enstrange themselves from their human origins and own culture and customs because humans are lesser inferior beings? this is messed up like holy fuck and it makes me very angry.

Like there should have problems/conflict with body dysphoria, culture shock, cultural misunderstandings and difficulty to adapt* (*to faeness and immortality/longevity). Maybe even struggle with how they get perceived by fae for being born as humans, the good bad and ugly. What it truly means to be human, and eventually becoming comfortable with themselves once again and reluctantly reconciling both halfs and finding peace one day. And I mean as the characters are immortal this arc could span over decades and go slow. But SJM wants her cake without eating it, wants her characters to go from point A to Z without putting any effort at all into it. It makes me frustrated because it could have been so compelling and interesting.

Yeah this tirade got very long, but I hope it overall makes sense ~

From the perspective of a Nesta fan

While reading this I realised all my ACOSF au snippets and headcanon include Nesta settling and adjusting to her own body and mind years after she leaves the NC.

Because they're short n sweet it's mostly physical from learning how to sleep without hyper-focusing on the sound of the ocean, to making a habit of walking and winnowing.

But can you imagine the mental adjustment? To immortality?? Sorry, but I'd take myself out if you know what I mean. I'm not doing 100 years or 500 years or eternity.

Now the reason this is all waved away is because Sarah Says so.

That's the rule to truly enjoying her books. Listen to what Sarah Says. Even when her own writing contradicts this - that's the fandom rule : Sarah Says.

Guess I just wish things made more sense with her and this fandom..And part of me understands why it’s easier to be a fan of Gwyn or Emerie because of this I hate to say. They don’t have neglectful do nothing backrounds, they’re easier to make so many theories for because they don’t have a past I can’t respect. Babies and titles for the sisters? Ick..A decade later at best for them to be fit for kids if SJM wanted to be fitting. It's weird how el/riel stan think everything Sjm writes, says or does is a hint for el/riel.

The comments under every sjm post are full of el/riel comments. For example one asked the CC stans what their favorite line from the book was and many of them seriously said "bread and roses". Or the one where she put flowers in the background of the acosf book as decoration and people in the comments yell "ELRIEL". I also still haven't forgotten about the Twitter el/riels who have seriously tweeted that Sjm BABY is forshadowing for el/riel when sjm surprised us with a new baby... joke or not, that was just weird. I know some are going to say "Gwynriel stans comment too", but not so many and they don't point at everything Sarah does and call it forshadowing for Gwynriel?! Some el/riels were pissed that el/riels were "celebrating"- 1. For what anyway? 2. It wasn't just a simple celebration when they were going around and confidently bullying and laughing at everyone who are not el/riel stans 3. To go around and claim that a ship was confirmed when it wasn't is misinformation. Nothing to be happy about.

The reason it got me to writing this ask is because I was in the Elucien tag on IG and some el/riel posted a meme where Sjm only cares about elriel, neglets gwynriel and let elucien basically drown and I just thought.. where do they get this misinformation?

As far as I know, Sarah never talked about El/riel. She made a headcanon that Elucien love to be out in the nature the most, wrote a whole tweet where she talked about Nessian and Elucien (- how Elain was someone Lucien and sjm herself never expected and how they could heal together). Even before she deleted her pinterest, there were elucien pinterest saved in the acotar pinwall.

Wasn't Sjm asked about El/riel and she answered that they're more like siblings to her? I can't find that Interview (2017 or 2018), but given that many people INCLUDING Twitter El/riels and a few mutual el/riels (I saw a post of an el/riel being upset at sarah's response).

Sure, she never talked about Gwynriel too, but Gwynriel is more than a year old and this time around she's barely revealing anything. Barely saying anything about the upcoming acotar books. Especially when she really can't say anything since she hasn't started writing it yet.

So I'm not sure what they actually mean.. Maybe because Sjm once said "I thought it's obvious" and they took it as el/riel confirmed because the 3 sisters 3 brothers crap is obvious. Or the one where she confirmed that we've already met Elain's lover interest and azriel has been around since book 2, FORGETTING the fact that Lucien has been around since book 1. I've seen the Interviews and IG lives they claim as el/riel, but none of them were el/riel related at all? She also looked rather dissapointed at the questions she got asked in last interview.

I don't care much what they say but it does get annoying when I see them in the elucien and gwynriel tag acting all smug like they know Sarah personally. I'm sure that she doesn't care at all about any of the ships except Feysand and Nessian- she makes it quite clear even- especially when all she hears from us are ships.

I have seen the "I thought it was obvious" gif used one (or a thousand) too many times at this point when it comes to E/riel. When SJM said that, it was in reference to who the next book would be about. Not who the next couple would be, not confirmation of any ships but who was getting the next book. And even that is completely ridiculous to fixate on. SJM has repeatedly said she is under contract with Bloomsburg and that contract does not allow her to disclose information like that. The only time we should believe anything is when there's an official announcement on her IG. So acting like "it's so obvious" when she doesn't want us to know anything until it's time is really not that obvious at all. She could just as easily be throwing as off as it's been proven in the past. Obvious means there's no doubt and when the fandom is still divided down the center there's nothing obvious at all. And SJM does love romance but it's insanity to think that every single thing she does is with the sole focus of her next endgame couple. While there were hints as to Rhys and Feyre ending up together, they were subtle hints. There was no indication that either Rhys or Feyre had feelings for one another in book 1. The hints were things like "a shadow watching over me" and "there you are, I've been looking for you" when we all thought that just meant he was helping her out with the faeries and "stay with the High Lord" when we all were convinced that meant Tamlin. E/riel moments are too in your face and too obvious. "Why not make them mates" and "what if that's what she needs" and "they stayed up talking" and "he's never given anyone that knife before." Foreshadowing is one thing but SJM has never been a Neon Flashing sign kind of writer, regardless of her "I thought it was obvious" comment. Because again, it's not at all obvious but the buildup for E/riel has been. The same that the relationship between Feyre and Tamlin was obvious until it wasn't. And regardless of what anyone thought of Tamlin and his treatment of Feyre, SJM felt his behaviors were not the sort of behaviors we wanted to celebrate as she felt he was the typical manifestation of a toxic male. No Azriel is not the same as Tamlin however the way he acts towards Elain IS similar to Tamlin with Feyre. The need to overly protect, the unnecessary jealousy, making it about what he needs over what the female wants. If SJM didn't like that sort of relationship for the original trilogy than why are we thinking she's suddenly going to like it for Elain? To sum it up:

Tamlin and Feyre were obviously going to be in a relationship.

Rhys and Feyre were not obvious

Tamlin's behaviors toward Feyre were not healthy in SJM's mind (possessive, jealous, trying to protect her to the point that it stifled her, not being willing to talk to her about feelings and emotions, killing his own sentries because they weren't able to prevent Feyre from leaving).

Azriel's behaviors towards Elain have a strong echo of that (jealousy over his brothers and her bond with Lucien, having no issues at the thought of killing Lucien regardless of what it means for their lands, wanting to keep her from helping with the Trove though it's something she actively said she would do, not talking to her about his thoughts or emotions). If anything, what is so obvious is that SJM is setting up E/riel to fail which I think has already happened in that POV chapter. If you find the interview where she mentioned them feeling like they’re siblings, I’d love to see it!
