mostly there’s just better games out there, a lot of which even do the same kind of thing as dnd. i dont really have anything against most editions. i really just hate 5e. i think it’s a badly designed, boring game that sacrifices any interesting design decisions, character options, or settings in favor of a really bland & shallow ruleset thats meant to piss off as few people as possible rather than anything else and is made by a company that wants to make a million billion dollars by coasting off being the only rpg anybody knows and doing a bunch of shitty rick and morty stranger things crossovers rather than actually being a good game with fun content.

like, it’s not even about making it easier to play. you can make a game easier to play without also making it really lame and bad like 5e did. pathfinder 2e managed to streamline the hell out of what is essentially an even more bloated and fucked up version of 3.5 and it’s honestly my favorite fantasy rpg mechanically

also fucking everything in it has to be on the fucking sword coast, too. the most boring part of the most boring dnd setting. because hey, doing things outside of Boring Fucking European Fantasy Zone might make some people uncomfortable and not want to buy a book wizards of the coast can’t ever have that. it took 4 fucking years to get a supplement for one of the dnd settings that wasn’t forgotten realms lmfao. it’s the biggest, wealthiest corporation in the rpg industry and all of its money and resources are being dumped into churning out the fantasy equivalent of stale saltine crackers and shitty podcast crossover books nobody wants. if you want anything cool at all in 5e you either have to homebrew it or get 3rd party stuff. like not to dunk on homebrew/3pp but you shouldnt be relying on it to make your game good like wotc does lmao
