My dance teacher and my dance partner (that didn’t know about how the Beckets, Raleigh especially, tend to be referred to in the Pacific Rim fandom) both apparently agreed that I’m the closest thing to what they could ever imagine a human version of a GOLDEN RETRIEVER to be...

Apparently, it’s a mix of the short attention span, the way my face just lights up and I get all excited when I see someone I like, am super protective, proud and supportive towards my dance partner (I straight out decided I wanted to adopt her the first time we met, I kid you not!  And, now that you mention it, I’m sort of the “veteran” that paired up with a “rookie”, despite having 7 years of belly-dancing experience over her, because I just thought there was something about her so vibrant, amazing and passionate, and she was just so thrilled about tribal fusion, and couldn’t wait to start creating projects and exploring possibilities, and she shyly approached me after her first show and was like “Hey, maybe in a few years, once I’ve gained some experience, we could do a dance number together?” and I totally just went “SCREW A FEW YEARS!  WE’RE DOING THE THING NOW!  YOU’RE MY DANCE PARTNER!” I mean, look at her!  She’s just about the sweetest and most adorable little thing there is and OMFG! I just love her, okay?!), but also have no trouble being assertive, putting my foot down and confronting people / setting clear limits when the situation calls for it (they saw me angry once).

Also, if there are any treats around (cookies, chocolate, candies, other goodies...) you can pretty much bet I’m going to be all over them.

You don’t understand you guys!

I almost spit half my cookie out when they said that!

Because basically, that’s as if they’d just called me a Becket!

I’m a FRAKKING CERTIFIED BECKET Y’ALL!

I made it in life!  I did the thing!  So frakking proud!

Now, if they could just stop putting cookies on the table when I’m wearing the mask during practice...  Or make cookies that fit in the mouth opening...

Because that’s just cruel!

@gutterballgt I saw this and that's why I'm not 100% sure the version of the book in the Google books preview is the final draft that is going to be published on March 27th... But I totally ordered myself a copy on Kindle so hopefully I'll be able to confirm it or let you know what's changed pretty soon...

I watched it tonight, and one spoiler-free thing I can tell you is they don’t say a word about where Raleigh Becket is today. He’s mentioned, but not in a “yeah, where is he, anyway?” kind of way. So no clues there, but he was definitely not put down as dead.

And that’s all I’ll say!

So, apparently, in this new Tumblr version of the Hansen/Becket merfolks AU...

...Mermaid Jazmine grows scales on her body when she gets wet.

She thus no longer has female presenting mermaid nipples.

Why are only biologically female mermaids growing scales on their bodies, and not male ones?

Because, you see, among merfolks, mermaids are fierce warriors and hunters that protect their clan and typically go hunting for food.  They thus require more protection to their upper bodies, and so their stomach and torso, in the ocean, are naturally covered by a chain-mail-like scales armor.

Since they thus have absolutely no exposed nipples under water, and their scales covered skin take longer to adjust to weight changes, you’ll be pleased to learn that it is only the biological males of the species that can get pregnant, carry the babies, and breastfeed them.

The scales only vanish on dry land, when they need to pass for humans.  Otherwise, they have naturally stronger bodies and thicker skin than their biological male counterparts.

You can also bet that, in this AU, the merfolks are 100% non-sexist, egalitarian folks, that don’t see the female presenting nipples as sexual organs or features needing any type of covering, and they sure don’t bother with wearing shells or any sort of bras because “HEY!  WATER!  Natural support for titties!  Why the fuck would I need a pair of shells?  Jesus!”

So yeah, they don’t share the American culture at all in terms of the female presenting breasts being anything children should be protected from.  That’s pure nonsense.

So that’s it!  In this version, Jazmine gets scales whenever exposed to “wetness”.  Yup!

What fandom involved the most bizarre fic you’ve ever read?

Most bizarre fic? There’re too many to name, but they’re all Durarara!! fics, and all involve the shizaya ship XD

Which is easier for you to express your feelings with: words or pictures?

Words, definitely. I enjoy writing in my spare time and am much better at it than drawing or painting (my art skills are nil). Of course, there’s also the matter of getting words down at all to express my feelings, but…

If you could trade places with one of your favourite characters, who would that be?

Argh! These are the questions! Assuming my personality and experiences stay intact, and I’m simply swapping physical positions… Oh, what the hell, Bilbo Baggins! I’ve always wanted to live in a Hobbit hole and to share in an adventure with Gandalf and thirteen dwarves (no guarantee I’ll survive it, but whatever)!

What type of fictional character is your favourite?

I’ve a soft spot for sociopathic and asshole characters for some reason, though of course I don’t mean to condone their behaviour or anything. It’s just so intriguing why they’re like that – sometimes it’s just who they are, and other times their mother may have been killed in a kaiju attack or a nuclear missile attack they’re not sure which and the only reason they’re not dead as well is because their father chose to save them instead of their mother but of course they’re grateful but of course they’ll have survivor’s guilt so of course they’ll resent their father for his sacrifice because of course they’ll feel inadequate compared to it so they’ll train and train and train so they become strong enough to take down the bastards that took their mother away and strong enough to fight the insecurity that haunts them they’ll fight and fight and fight so they become better than their old man and better than any has-been otherwise it’s not enough they’re not enough they’re never good enough.

Have you ever encountered anything supernatural?

No, I just get scared easily.

Both. Although the sunset’s easier to watch, considering I hate getting out of bed early.

A lovely chiffon blouse that goes with pretty much everything else I have :)

I think I’d be more comfortable as a composer, especially for film scores and such! And I think I’d perform so much better with a quiet audience I can pretend is not there, otherwise I’d get too much stage fright XD

The Becket boy, as far as Sasha could tell...was an enigma to her. Perhaps it was because of his overenthusiastic child-like (yet endearing) attitude towards Jaegers was what confused her so much; she was just the wrong generation for it. It didn't stop her meandering around the Shatterdome and admiring the repair work on his Jaeger. She gives an impressed look. She had her merits, but bias obviously made her gravitate towards her own Cherno Alpha. "She is...coming along."

Raleigh was one more ring away from making his way to Chuck’s bunk - considering he’d been texting about his ceiling lamp, he’d figured that’s where he would most likely be - when the other man finally answered.

By the sound of it, it seemed that Chuck was inebriated; which might actually complicate the situation a bit…

Now you made me say it out loud and it sounds dumb and I'm not-- I can't now." He flops onto his bed, still laughing. "You really that worried after me, Becket?"

1. My favorite outfit is a sweatshirt and shorts. For this reason I love fall, and camping, because its the perfect weather for this awesome clothes combo!

2. I like to wear the color orange, the brighter the better.

3. I host a Pacific Rim Themed party every year since 2015, sure I showed up late to the fandom, but I’m making up for lost time. We have all the foods that were in the movie as well as watch the movie in 3D.

4. I prefer to watch anime in Japanese with subtitles. I’ve got to learn something from it. Plus I like the original voices.

5. I’m in the process to become a licensed architect.

6. I run bento panels at Anime Boston. Please come and say hi to me if you’re there this year.

7. I love love love the olympics (both summer and winter) Planning on going to Tokyo for 2020.

8. I have one dog. He’s a Jack Russell Terrier named Fred.

9. I listen to pop, rock, alt rock, hip hop, rap and metal music mostly, but I am always looking for new stuff that might inspire me.

10.  I was in marching band for 5 years. I kinda miss it now.

13. I have one sister, she now lives in the UK. I hope to get to visit her more.
