the number one rule for watching star trek the original series is that you CANNOT under any circumstances go into an episode expecting it to be Good. if it ends up being one of the Good ones, this is purely coincidence and you should not expect it to happen again. the main takeaway from any tos episode should be that it could've stood to lose maybe 20 minutes of runtime, and that's part of the charm. you HAVE to understand this to make the most of it.

✨THEORY TIME✨ THE SWITCH UP
Everything I say here is pure speculation and theory. Don’t like it don’t read.
I think we’re seeing a role reversal.
I think we’re seeing Nicola get the Luke Summer 2024 hate pile treatment.
And I think it’s intentional.
Just hear me out.
Luke was put through the fucking wringer online after the London premiere. Like senselessly and from the same fandom that was boosting him just the week before.
Shit got messy. It looked messy at least between mid June and early August. Then it started to die down. The Luke hate started to fizzle out and by the time December rolled around it felt like things really changed.
Sure, when he popped up with Antonia again it kind of started in some but not nearly as bad as it was at the end of the press tour.
Because Luke fell on the sword. And now? Now I think Nicola is doing the same.
If you look back, Nicola got the “he’s not good enough for you anyway” treatment. The girl that got rejected idea. She got uplifted and put on a pedestal and had to delete nasty comments about Luke on her IG posts because things looked a certain way.
So what are we seeing now? Nicola and Jake. Polaroids. Spoon reflections. Overshadowing of certain accomplishments with his presence. A media push (albeit pushed by other reasons but still serving this purpose) of a fake relationship with the most sibling energy ever.
And she’s getting hate from all corners. I’ve even gotten a few “Luke deserves better” asks that I won’t publish after Thursday. Admittedly I was even like GIRL WTF.
But what makes more sense to me, and why she’s seeming to go against all the shit she said she didn’t want and low key picking at fandom lore and Jake stepping up his trolling, is because she’s taking her turn now.
Because what would it look like if Nic and Luke came out with everything and she looks like she got off scot free? And what if there’s some guilt there associated because she’s had a great 2024 from what we’ve seen publicly and on SM. She’s still having a great 2025.
What if she’s ensuring she’s got the same kind of hate under her belt to even things out? We’ve already seemingly got Boss 2.0. Was Cannes the equivalent to Luke’s BAFTA?
The hate is suffocating. It feels like summer 2024 again but more people are scratching their fucking heads.
All that to say this…
Luke kicked it off last summer, Nic is gonna close it out this summer.

i didn’t want to let go of the pain because it felt like the only thing left connecting me to her. even though she hurt me. even though i hated her. i still clung to the ache because it reminded me it was real.
but here’s how i stopped: i blocked her on everything. deleted photos, numbers, playlists. avoided her name like it was poison. and eventually, it really did feel like she never existed.
sometimes the cure is just out of sight = out of mind. stop feeding the memory. go ghost. set yourself free.

I have THOUGHTS about… ahem… the “Thunderbolts*”…
SPOILER ALERT!!!
SPOILERS UNDER THE CUT…
LAST WARNING!
I’ve just watched the film this evening and I have so many thoughts off the top of my head and in no particular order
Valentina, you SCHEMING little shit, I KNEW something was up! That was insane.
Movie was big on mental health, for sure.
I previously thought we’d see Bucky going up against himself, but I was wrong; why would he ever need to do that? The MCU was his process and we’ve been watching him absolutely go through it.
And speaking of going through it, Bob and his room reminded me of Moon Knight, what with the abusive parents and whatnot, him being in the safest room he can be in, surrounded by toys.
And speaking of rooms. Yelena’s scenes around the Red Room situations, oof, that must’ve been really hard on her, that she could not change anything, that it would keep happening.
The whole you-don’t-have-to-do-this-alone aspect of the film was so well made, and that one scene near the end, the group hug, heartwarming. Very emotional scene. Loved it.
Very nearly upstaged by the previous scenes where Bucky, Walker, Ava, Yelena, and Alexei stopped that stone slab from hitting the ground, saving civilians
Alexei was hilarious throughout the whole movie, awesome at that
HOLY SHIT THE NEW AVENGERS??? I’ll get back to that in a bit but OMG.
The thing about Bob punching his own dark reflection and almost becoming what he feared the most was just… so so well done, that even when he was being mocked, he found the strength to get up and fight back, inspiring the others to get up and fight back too, and fight back together
Taskmaster? Yeah, we knew she was toast within the first 20 minutes but not how, now we know that Val had sent Taskmaster to kill Walker to kill Yelena to kill Ghost
That was one hell of an introduction though
And speaking of introductions, I gotta say something about the post-credits scene. First off, those new outfits are really cool; Walker getting a beret?? BUCKY GETTING A NEW OUTFIT AND A STAR OVER HIS RIGHT ARM?? I love that it’s navy blue now. AND THE FANTASTIC FOUR SHIP?? We know F4 is right around the corner this summer; I’m guessing that in the mid- and/or post-credits scene(s) of that movie we’ll have the F4 interact with the New Avengers before DOOMSDAY
And speaking of the New Avengers! That was Val’s whole setup! She had to get all shady and morally grey and villainy-like, trying to get her potential Avengers members to kill each other in some kind of wretched test to see how’d they fare against each other.
And oh right, BUCKY SAID SAM ISN’T HAPPY about the New Avengers; remember in CABNW Sam said that Ross told him to form a new team? What kind of beef is Val having with whoever is the president now? I mean it’s not like Bucky put together a team, it was just convenient that four of them were in the same car. But think about it, in the Doomsday lineup video, Anthony Mackie was third and Sebastian fourth, so the fact that they’re really high up on the roster and right next to each other tells me that Sam may be mad an Avengers team has been formed and there was nothing he could do about it
And like, it’s 2027 in the MCU now, right? The movie ends like 14 months later so now it’s freakin’ 2028 in the MCU now.
Bob is a cool person, I think, Sentry was the midpoint between Bob and the Void, and Bob doesn’t want to become the Sentry due to how he’d also become the Void - this avoidance is kinda like how Banner didn’t want to become Hulk but then reconciled. I like Bob’s dynamic with Yelena.
The whole metaphor of walking into the void is like choosing to confront your shame, your darkness, the things you think you don’t deserve sympathy for, but then again the whole point of Yelena, Bucky, Walker, and Ava coming together to group hug Bob was just so good.
It’s hilarious that Val didn’t just go “I’m putting together a team”, she went “Imma send these misfits to kill each other, send my latest project to kill them, ALL IN THE GUISE OF HOPING THEY ALL TEAM THE EFF UP but I can’t tell anyone that until the events I put into motion cause them to save the city and become the heroes I always knew they were” and honestly? What the hell, Valentina?! 🤣 You played them, you played us, well effing done, loved it, 15/10 no notes.
Bucky with the good hair! 🤩
Oh and the mid-credits artwork referencing famous historical promo, the Yelena “We can do it” poster referencing the WWII Rosie the Riveter propaganda, the team shot referencing the “Raising the Flag on Iwo Jima” photo
And part of the artwork also being in-universe headlines of people not exactly loving the New Avengers
And the classic Avengers theme song as the undercurrent for the main theme of this movie!
I may have other points but I’ll save them for later, I think??

i just came across for this and holy shit this is HUGE! “He’d stay cool since it is his first time properly meeting his soulmate..” does this mean he’s been stalking her and they haven’t actually met before? or maybe they have met but it just wasn’t a proper meeting and mc doesn’t remember it? IDK but then that leads me to assume that their first kiss together, them becoming a couple, were just apart of his delusions.
also “they know… they know! i knew it…” they have actually met before and thinks mc remembers him or he’s saying that in a way like “omg so she really does think we’re soulmates!”
maybe i’m overthinking this and the answer is right infront of my eyes😭

When I was a kid, I loved taking the bus and going to school with a stuffed animal.
One day, a little boy in the bus threatened to beat me up if I showed up with yet another stuffed animal on the next day.
So, on the next day, I entered the school bus with 5 stuffed animals in my arms, smuggly looked at him and silently challenged him to do anything about it as I casually walked by and went to take my seat.
Right now, I have the same emotion watching pictures of Jaskier with his red coat and long hair.
"Yeah, well, now he's wearing an actual long haired wig meant to mimic his real hair from Season 3 in Season 5. Whatcha gonna do about it?"
If you thought repeatedly calling an actor's 100% real, natural hair in Season 3 an "ugly wig", and continuously complaining about it, was going to make Joey go: "Oh no! I must immediately make sure my character has a hair style that meets those entitled jerks' aesthetic standards by Season 4!"
Well...
Seriously, Jaskier's coat, IMHO, is beyond iconic by now, and asking him to remove it would be like asking Spike on BTVS to stop wearing his long black jacket!
To me, it marks the moment, on the show, where Jaskier stopped perceiving himself as a sidekick in someone else's story, and became his very own protagonist as the Sandpiper.
He's no longer dressing like one would expect a typical viscount/noble or even bard to dress, nor trying to be what pleases others.
I personally love and have always loved the coat, although I fully respect those that prefer characters to embrace multiple styles in how they dress.
"I don't like the coat."
You don't have to! It's fine. Rock on!
"I love it, but I'd love seeing more variety in his wardrobe!"
I feel you! I get it! I empathize with your disappointment.
Same with the Season 3 hairstyle. You don't have to like it, and you are 100% entitled to wish the hairstyle of the character would continue to change and evolve in Season 4 and 5.
But, I remember reading posts calling Joey's hair "ugly", and "disgusting", saying the show "did him dirty", that you should "kill that wig with fire!", and downright mocking and belittling his physical appearance that went WAY BEYOND "not a fan of your hairstyle, but it's alright, you do you!"
And there's this deep instinct in me where, watching someone (even a character, although here people were perhaps unwittingly but that doesn't make it okay mocking Joey's actual hair) get bullied over a physical characteristic or trait of theirs, makes me profoundly fall in love with that physical characteristic, get irrationally attached to it, and wish to see more of it!
Therefore, I am rejoicing over Jaskier's gloriously beautiful delicate feminine bob having survived until Season 5 like you wouldn't believe!
It's everything I ever dreamed of, and it's fucking perfect!
Long live the bob! May kings forever celebrate it, and fellow bards write epic poems dedicated to its beauty!

It's a common misconception in the amateur Linux/Unix world that "Control C", AKA "intr" or "interrupt" (not to be confused with the CPU concept of an interrupt) is a keyboard shortcut. It isn't, really. Not ostensibly.
This all goes way back the very very early days of ASCII, when it was both a character set and a communications protocol. (Remember that the "II" stands for "Information Interchange".)]
ASCII defines a series of seven-bit codes, each of which has some fixed meaning. For the "printable" subset of these codes, we commonly describe this relationship as though a given code 'means' some character; but from the communications protocol point of view it's more like they 'mean' to print some character. i.e. 61h doesn't just mean 'a', it means "print 'a' and advance the cursor".
Actually, "cursor" is the wrong word to use here. We think of ASCII as something computers and only computers use, but this wasn't the case in the early days. ASCII is a telegraph code. Helpful for computers, yes, but built from the ground up to allow operators to control typewriters (teletypewriters, AKA TTYs) from across the world over the telegraph network.
That's why there are more than just printing codes. These are the "non-printing" or "control" codes, designed to control the typewriter on the other end. You're probably familiar with some of them: 20h, AKA "Space", which advances the type head but prints nothing; 0Dh, AKA "Carriage Return", which puts the type head back the start of the line; 0Ah, AKA "Line Feed", which advances the paper one line; and 09h, AKA "Tab", which advances the type head some configurable amount.
Some of them you're probably less familiar with. 07h is "Bell". It rings a bell on the receiving end, perhaps to wake them up and let 'em know a message is coming. There's 06h and 15h, Acknowledge and Negative Acknowledge. There's 01h, 02, 03h and 04 -- Start of Heading, Start of Text, End of Text, and End of Transmission. There are codes to turn on and off the receiver's peripherals like a tape punch recorder or reader. There are codes to delimit files and records. There's a backspace code! Everything you could want as a telegrapher in 1963.
We run into a problem when trying to type these control codes, though. By definition they don't really print anything, so what are we gonna put on the keys? Furthermore, there are a lot of control codes. Even if we figure out what should be on the keys it'll double the size of our typewriters to include them all! (I mean we can do it for some of 'em, like "Space" which already has a key, but "BEL"? "ACK"? "X-ON"?)
Fortunately, there's an existing solution to this kind of problem. Here's a picture of the keyboard of a Teletype Model 33, one of the first products to use ASCII, and it shows this solution:
See that "CTRL" key? Forget how you think it works.
Y'know how when you press "shift" on an old mechanical typewriter, it physically "shifts" the type basket down so you can use capital letters and punctuation marks? Like, shift-g isn't a "keyboard shortcut" for 'G" so much as "how you type 'G'". It selects between map layers, makes it so you don't need to have two keys for every letter.
Control does the same thing. Control-g is not a "keyboard shortcut" for ringing the bell, it's how you type "ring the bell".* Control-f is how you type "Acknowledge", control-s is how you type "turn off the tape reader", and so on and so on. All in the same way that shift-4 is how you type '$', and w is how you type 'w'.
So what's control-c? ^C is "End of Text". That's why it's used to end processes, alongside counterpart ^D "End of Transmission". You're not telling Linux you pressed "'control' and 'c'", you're telling you pressed "End of Text", and it knows "End of Text" means "end this process".†
If you take a look at the stty tool, you'll find that you can rebind some of these default actions. Maybe you want ^Y to be your interrupt instead of ^C. You can do that! Run stty intr ^Y in a terminal it'll do it. But you can't bind, say, control-9, because that's not a control character. Or control-., or control-page down, or "enter" on the numpad. The Linux line discipline has no idea what those are. It deals in characters, not keys.‡
That's why ^C isn't a keyboard shortcut.
*You'll commonly see these control characters transcribed with so-called "caret notation", where BEL is ^G, ACK is ^F, etc. The ^ means control, the letter indicates what key you'd press to type it.
†That's not to say that Linux interprets every control character like the spec says. ^W ("End of Transmission Block"), for example, is used for "word erase". Presumably because it starts with the letter 'w'. Under the hood it's still interpreting the keys you pressed as "End of Transmission Block", though.
‡You might wonder how the arrow keys work, then. You can think of them like macros. "Up" for example will type "^[[A" -- that's three characters, '^[' AKA "Escape", '[' AKA "Left Square Bracket", and 'A' AKA "Latin Capital Letter A". "Down" is "^[[B", "Right" is "^[[C", and "Left" is "^[[D". These work...sorta like printf formatting strings. '^[' tells Linux that next couple characters contain control information and not their usual meanings. Read more about this here.

The question is which memory is worth keeping? The world is about to turn into ashes right now- and to be reborn. Memories are the past, the identity, sometimes even a prison. How to build something new which has never existed when there is this clinging to the past?
And yes, great works and art are being lost through the decline of physical storage and media. But do they really matter, here and NOW?
I don't see enough people mourning over the slow death of physical media. And I don't just mean TV shows, video games, or movies--which don't even get me started about how we don't really 'own' anything anymore. It includes notes, journals, and letters to one another...so much of our history is lost when we lose a password, a website goes down, a file/hardware is corrupted, or a platform disappears. History that doesn't seem important until you no longer have access to it. Physical media does a lot for memory recall. How many memories will we lose because we don't have something tangible to tie it back to? Something to hold in our hands and stir up those memories we thought were once lost? Sometimes I wonder what the difference between burning a book and losing access to physical media is when someone can pull the plug and remove your access so easily.

Transcript:
“BREAKING: A constitutional amendment has been filed allowing President Trump to seek a 3rd term in office.
"No person shall be elected to the office of the President more than three times, nor be elected to any additional term after being elected to two consecutive terms, and no person who has held the office of President, or acted as President, for more than two years of a term to which some other person was elected President shall be elected to the office of the President more than twice."
It was filed by Congressman Andy Ogles (R-TN).
Don’t let this slip by unnoticed. This is not just “one extra term”, it’s a warning shot. It’s a red flag. It’s an omen.
They are slowly turning up the heat in the pan. Do not be the frog who sits denying it’s getting hotter.
One extra term will become two, two will become three, and three will eventually give way to lifelong reign of each president.
Fight. Fight for God’s sake.
Contact your local representative of congress. Convince them we do not want this.
We are going to end up in a dictatorship.
