Welcome to Paradise!
You’ve probably heard of the popular Caribbean vacation destinations like St. Lucia, Bahamas, Puerto Rico and many more. But have you heard of the smaller collection of islands located below Cuba on the lower west side? The Cayman Islands are commonly overlooked by many vacationers. You can’t really blame them either. I mean the main island, Grand Cayman, is a whopping 76 square feet in its entirety.
Tumblr media
In more recent years the island has gained some attraction with its main city, George Town, as a popular cruise ship port and the famous 7-Mile Beach as a vacation destination. Travelers are being drawn to Grand Cayman’s crystal blue waters, world famous coral reefs and wrecks for scuba diving trips, and many luxurious hotels along the coast that make for a perfect week of relaxation in the Caribbean sun.
But what’s below the surface of this vacation destination? That’s what I’m interested in. I’ve been traveling to this island for years and know very little about it.
Tumblr media
I know it hasn’t always looked the way it does today. This island has come a long way since its first airfield was put in in 1953. Almost overnight, they put in their first hospital, bank, hotel and commercial dive center. According to explorecayman.com, “Suddenly the Cayman Islands were on the map - both as a tourism and recreational dive destination and as an international finance centre.”
Tumblr media
But the development of the island didn’t stop in the 50’s. Grand Cayman was overtaken rapidly by growth economically and residentially. New homes and hotels were being built all over the island. As well as the government advertising the no taxation on the island to build and grow the banking industry.

Blog Post 1 - Relationship with Nature
I have never really considered my relationship with nature and the ways in which it has developed and evolved. Thus, this blog prompt has been quite thought provoking. Reflecting on my childhood, I have always had a very strong relationship and connection to nature. I was born and raised on a small island very isolated from everything which meant we did not have access to many things (toys, DVDs, parks). Much of my entertainment came from playing outside and using my imagination. I grew up with very active and adventurous parents so we were often outdoors spending our down time in nature. My weekends were spent at the beach playing in the water and climbing the tress, or on a boat where we would snorkel, and when we were away we would spend the whole time taking as many walks as we could. My grandparents lived in the Irish countryside on 11 acres of land and we would spend the summers there. My grandfather would take my sister and I on walks down to the river, or to his vegetable garden to help harvest and plant. He would also take us on picnics to different spots along the river and in the mountains. My grandma would take me to my equestrian lessons and stay with me while I spent my time with the horses and barn dogs afterwards. Growing up in nature and spending all my time outdoors or with animals created a very strong connection between the environment and me. It has always been, and continues to be, my safe space and space to find tranquillity. Over the years it has become my ‘therapy’. Whenever I feel overwhelmed my first thought is to go for a walk or go sit on the beach and just breathe. Further, growing up in a place that has a six-month hurricane season has taught me the unpredictability of nature, and thus, life. It has really made me appreciate the beauty of mother nature in all of its glory and the intensity of nature.
I would say my grandfather, Alan, was the biggest contributor in offering me a sense of place. He taught me to appreciate the environment you are in and to really take it all in. He made sure he instilled in me his same sense of admiration for what the earth has to offer and that every step of the way is just as important and magnificent as the destination. He also taught me the importance of immersing yourself in nature to remain grounded. If I was feeling stressed, sad, anxious, etcetera, his answer was always a walk or a trip to my favourite spots he would take my sister and I. He taught me how to enjoy being outside and that time is best spent surrounded by nature. Because of him I now carry a deep appreciation for the world around me and I always make sure to explore new and known places and to never stop finding the beauty and significance of the environment around me. His love of history and thirst for knowledge has done more than just teach me about the rich culture and history of everywhere we have been, but it has also taught me to seek out information about any place I go (or am interested in). This has really helped to enrich my understanding and experiences of the nature that surrounds me, aiding in creating a sense of place.
Many of my teachers in primary school also contributed to instilling an importance within to understanding the cultural history of the place in which you stand. My island is full of rich history (negative and positive) and they made sure to advocate for cultural days in school and for the island’s history to be taught to us. I now carry those lessons with me and am sure to learn about the history and culture (past and present) of the places I go. Many of the world’s natural landscapes hold much significance to the people who came before us!

Is It Worth Renting a Condo in the Cayman Islands?
Tumblr media
The Cayman Islands is a picturesque paradise in the Caribbean and has long been one of the most popular places for people who want to enjoy sun, sea, and luxury. Whether planning a short vacation, an extended stay, or considering relocating, renting a condo in the Cayman Islands offers several benefits over traditional hotel stays that make it more attractive.
From being flexible with accommodation to the home-like comfort and nearness to some of the world’s most beautiful beaches, here’s why you should prioritize condominium rentals in the Cayman Islands.
A Safe Haven
One of the most compelling reasons to consider a condo rental in the Cayman Islands is that they offer incomparable comfort and privacy. Unlike hotels, where space may be limited, condos provide more room for yourself, resembling your home. You can spread out freely and relax during your stay without restrictions like those in single-room hotels.
Condominiums are usually furnished with multiple rooms big enough for guests. They also come with living areas and kitchens equipped with everything needed to prepare meals. This setup perfectly suits families and couples seeking romantic escapades.
Ideal for Remote Work
Due to digitalization, the ability to work away from the office is now very common. If you want to work remotely and have a vacation simultaneously, the Caymans are ideal because they offer incredible scenery and a relaxing atmosphere. Renting condos provides an opportunity for working and relaxing since you have access to a quiet environment alongside all the necessities needed for work.
Many Grand Cayman condo rentals come with high-speed internet and a dedicated workspace, making it easier to balance career development with leisure. After your day’s meetings or deadlines are met, you can spend your evenings on the beach, take a swim, or visit other attractions on the island.
Cost-Effective Option for Longer Stays
Cayman Island hotels can be luxurious but expensive, especially for longer stays. Renting a condo could be a more cost-effective alternative, particularly if you plan on staying for an extended period. Condos generally cost less compared to hotels, and having your own kitchen can help reduce overall expenses.
Most Cayman Islands condominium rentals offer weekly or monthly rates, which are more affordable for those planning to stay longer than a few days.
Perfect Locations and Beautiful Views
The sandy beaches of the Cayman Islands, crystal-clear waters, and vibrant underwater world are renowned worldwide. Renting a condo allows you to choose from excellent locations, giving you easy access to these natural attractions.
Many of the Grand Cayman condo rentals are situated right on Seven Mile Beach, one of the most famous and beautiful beaches globally. Imagine waking up every morning to the gentle sound of waves and enjoying panoramic ocean views from your balcony.
Home-like Amenities
When individuals travel, they often miss the comforts of home. By renting a condominium in the Caymans, you can enjoy luxurious living while experiencing a new destination. Condominiums are equipped with modern appliances, Wi-Fi, cable TV, or streaming services, making them feel like home.
This family-friendly environment includes kitchenettes for preparing meals that suit your family’s dietary needs and separate bedrooms for relaxation. It’s convenient and comfortable enough to maintain your lifestyle during a holiday in paradise.
Flexibility and Personalization
Condos offer significantly more flexibility compared to hotels, allowing vacationers to tailor their stay according to their preferences. Grand Cayman condo rentals come in various styles, from contemporary designs with modern furnishings to traditional Caribbean homes, providing countless customization options.
This flexibility means you can find a condo that matches your style and needs, creating an unforgettable experience based on your desires.
Safety and Security
Safety is a key consideration when traveling, and the Cayman Islands are among the safest destinations in the Caribbean. Renting a condo in a gated community or secure complex ensures 24-hour security, so you can relax and enjoy your stay without concerns about safety.
The Cayman Islands condominium rentals offer a safe and comfortable environment for you and your family.
Eco-Friendly and Sustainable Travel
As travelers become more environmentally conscious, sustainable travel options are increasingly important. Renting a condo can be more eco-friendly than staying in hotels, as it often promotes sustainable practices. Condos can incorporate energy-efficient appliances, recycling programs, and other environmentally friendly practices.
Many rental condos in the Cayman Islands focus on sustainability, using eco-friendly materials and features. By choosing a condo rental, you can enjoy luxury while minimizing your ecological impact.
Conclusion
Renting a condo in the Cayman Islands is more than just finding a place to stay. It’s an opportunity to experience the island in a comfortable, flexible, and personalized way. The amenities will provide everything necessary for you to feel at home while enjoying your stay in paradise.
Why wait? Start planning your dream vacation today by exploring rental properties in the Cayman Islands. Enjoy all the pleasures of this beautiful destination while feeling right at home!

Russia’s War in Ukraine to Cost Global Economy $2.8 Trillion (WSJ) Russia’s invasion of Ukraine will cost the global economy $2.8 trillion in lost output by the end of next year—and even more if a severe winter leads to energy rationing in Europe—the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development said Monday. The estimate by the Paris-based club of advanced economies lays bare the magnitude of the economic fallout from Moscow’s invasion of its neighbor seven months ago, the worst military conflict on the continent since World War II.
Canadian cleanup (Reuters) It will take several months for Canada to restore critical infrastructure after the powerful storm Fiona left an "unprecedented" trail of destruction, officials said, as crews fanned out in five provinces to restore power and clean up fallen trees and debris.
Critics: Oregon’s move to decriminalize hard drugs a failure (AP) Two years after Oregon residents voted to decriminalize hard drugs and dedicate hundreds of millions of dollars to treatment, few people have requested the services and the state has been slow to channel the funds. When voters passed the state’s pioneering Drug Addiction Treatment and Recovery Act in 2020, the emphasis was on treatment as much as on decriminalizing possession of personal-use amounts of heroin, cocaine, methamphetamine and other drugs. But Oregon still has among the highest addiction rates in the country. Fatal overdoses have increased almost 20% over the previous year, with over a thousand dead. Over half of addiction treatment programs in the state lack capacity to meet demand because they don’t have enough staffing and funding, according to testimony before lawmakers. Supporters want more states to follow Oregon’s lead, saying decriminalization reduces the stigma of addiction and keeps people who use drugs from going to jail and being saddled with criminal records. How Oregon is faring will almost certainly be taken into account if another state considers decriminalizing.
Ian strengthens into a hurricane, heads toward Cuba, Florida (AP) Forecasters say Tropical Storm Ian has strengthened into a hurricane as it moves closer to Cuba on a track expected to take it to Florida in the coming days. Ian was forecast to intensify rapidly and become a major hurricane as soon as late Monday. A hurricane warning was in effect for Grand Cayman and the Cuban provinces of Isla de Juventud, Pinar del Rio and Artemisa. The U.S. National Hurricane Center said Ian should reach the far-western part of Cuba late Monday or early Tuesday, hitting near the country’s most famed tobacco fields. It could become a major hurricane before a likely landfall in Florida around the middle of the week, possibly the state’s western coast or Panhandle.
British pound plunges to new low as tax cuts spark concern (AP) The British pound fell to all-time low against the U.S. dollar early Monday after Treasury chief Kwasi Kwarteng pledged a sweeping package of tax cuts, fueling concerns about the government’s economic policy as the United Kingdom creeps toward recession. The pound fell as low as $1.0373, before rallying to $1.0672 in early London trading. It was its lowest level since the decimalization of the currency in 1971. The British currency has lost more than 5% of its value against the dollar since Friday, when Kwarteng announced the biggest tax cuts in 50 years. It comes as the government plans to spend billions of pounds to help consumers and businesses struggling with high energy bills that are driving a cost-of-living crisis. The combination sparked investor concern about spiraling government debt.
Lights out, ovens off: Europe preps for winter energy crisis (AP) As Europe heads into winter in the throes of an energy crisis, offices are getting chillier. Statues and historic buildings are going dark. Bakers who can’t afford to heat their ovens are talking about giving up, while fruit and vegetable growers face letting greenhouses stand idle. In poorer eastern Europe, people are stocking up on firewood, while in wealthier Germany, the wait for an energy-saving heat pump can take half a year. And businesses don’t know how much more they can cut back. “We can’t turn off the lights and make our guests sit in the dark,” said Richard Kovacs, business development manager for Hungarian burger chain Zing Burger. The restaurants already run the grills no more than necessary and use motion detectors to turn off lights in storage, with some stores facing a 750% increase in electricity bills since the beginning of the year. With costs high and energy supplies tight, Europe is rolling out relief programs and plans to shake up electricity and natural gas markets as it prepares for rising energy use this winter. The question is whether it will be enough to avoid government-imposed rationing and rolling blackouts after Russia cut back natural gas needed to heat homes, run factories and generate electricity to a tenth of what it was before invading Ukraine.
Italy shifts to the right (AP) The Brothers of Italy won the most votes in Italy’s national elections, looking set to deliver the country’s first far-right-led government since World War II and make its leader, Giorgia Meloni, Italy’s first woman premier, near-final results showed Monday. Italy’s lurch to the far right immediately shifted Europe’s geopolitical reality, placing a euroskeptic party in position to lead a founding member of the European Union and its third-largest economy. Meloni, whose party traces its origins to the postwar, neo-fascist Italian Social Movement, sounded a moderate, unifying tone in a victory speech early Monday that noted that Italians had finally been able to clearly determine who they wanted to govern. While the center-right was the clear winner, the formation of a government is still weeks away and will involve consultations among party leaders and with President Sergio Mattarella. In the meantime, outgoing Premier Mario Draghi remains in a caretaker role.
Russia’s mobilization (Washington Post) Top Russian officials on Sunday warned of problems in Moscow’s rushed mobilization of men to fight in Ukraine. Scuffles broke out Sunday in Makhachkala, the capital of Dagestan, where screaming women struggled with police, trying to prevent them from dragging male protesters to police vans, in rare signs of dissent that underscored the dangers of regional unrest over the mobilization. Earlier Sunday in Dagestan, an impoverished southern region that has borne a disproportionate share of military casualties in Ukraine, furious residents blocked a highway protesting mobilization after 110 men from Endirey village were drafted, including some who had recently returned from the war, independent local media reported. There were dozens of reports of men being conscripted despite being elderly, sick, disabled, unfit or exempt from military service because they were caring for a disabled family member or were students or IT workers. Thousands of young men have flocked to Russia’s borders in recent days to escape mobilization.
Winter’s approach sets clock ticking for Ukraine, Russia (AP) The onset of autumnal weather, with rains making fields too muddy for tanks, is beginning to cloud Ukraine’s efforts to take back more Russian-held territory before winter freezes the battlefields, a Washington-based think tank said Sunday. Russia, meanwhile, pressed on with its call-up of hundreds of thousands of men to throw into the seven-month war, seeking to reverse its recent losses. For Ukrainian and Russian military planners, the clock is ticking, with the approach of winter expected to make fighting more complicated. Already, rainy weather is bringing muddy conditions that are starting to limit the mobility of tanks and other heavy weaponry, according to the Institute for the Study of War.
Ukraine warns of growing attacks by drones Iran has supplied to Russia. (NYT) Multiple drone strikes hit a building in the center of the southern port city of Odesa on Sunday, the second day in a row that unmanned aerial vehicles have struck there, the Ukrainian military said. The flurry of drone attacks comes as Ukrainian officials warn of a new menace in the skies: “kamikaze” drones supplied to Russia by Iran, so named because they explode on impact, carrying a warhead of about 80 pounds. In Odesa, an attack by an Iranian-made drone on Saturday killed one person, officials said, while throughout the weekend drones buzzed above the city, antiaircraft guns boomed and videos of frightened residents staring up at the sky circulating on social media. As Moscow finds itself isolated internationally, and as its arsenal has been depleted during its monthslong campaign in Ukraine, it has turned for military support to countries including Iran, which has quietly ramped up its drone sales to Russia. Drones play an increasingly important role in the Ukraine war, both for surveillance and for launching munitions. The United States has supplied Ukraine with American-made Switchblade drones, and an attack on Russia’s Black Sea Fleet headquarters in August involved a drone. Ukraine has also deployed Turkish-made Bayraktar TB2 drones, which fire guided missiles.
Swathes of land swamped in Philippines after typhoon (Reuters) Philippine President Ferdinand Marcos Jr conducted an aerial survey of damage on Monday brought by typhoon Noru, which left heavy flooding across several northern provinces as authorities rushed to get aid to thousands of evacuees. Floods submerged swathes of farmland and communities in the north, video and images shared by the president's office showed, after the category 3 typhoon dumped heavy rains and brought strong winds after making landfall at the weekend. The Philippines, an archipelago of more than 7,600 islands, sees an average of 20 tropical storms yearly. In 2013, Typhoon Haiyan, one of the most powerful tropical cyclones ever recorded, killed 6,300 people.
Iran president threatens ‘decisive’ response as protests continue (Washington Post) Protests continued in Tehran and other Iranian cities Sunday for a 10th day, with videos emerging of large demonstrations despite tightening internet restrictions and an expanding clampdown by security forces, monitoring groups said. The protests started after Mahsa Amini, a 22-year-old woman, died after being detained by Iran’s morality police this month, amid allegations by her family that she had been beaten. The demonstrations—outpourings of anger over the harsh strictures on women’s dress that led to Amini’s arrest and vehicles for more deeply rooted complaints against Iran’s clerical establishment—have spread to all of Iran’s 31 provinces and are the largest since nationwide demonstrations three years ago that were met with a deadly security response that killed hundreds. In the latest protests, at least 41 people have been killed, according to Iran’s state media, including police officers. Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi threatened a harsh response Saturday, vowing a “decisive strike on the disrupters of security and peace of the country.”
Bam! NASA spacecraft crashes into asteroid in defense test (AP) A NASA spacecraft rammed an asteroid at blistering speed Monday in an unprecedented dress rehearsal for the day a killer rock menaces Earth. The galactic slam occurred at a harmless asteroid 7 million miles (9.6 million kilometers) away, with the spacecraft named Dart plowing into the space rock at 14,000 mph (22,500 kph). Scientists expected the impact to carve out a crater, hurl streams of rocks and dirt into space and, most importantly, alter the asteroid’s orbit. Though the impact was immediately obvious—Dart’s radio signal abruptly ceased—it will be days or even weeks to determine how much the asteroid’s path was changed. “Now is when the science starts,” said NASA’s Lori Glaze, planetary science division director. “Now we’re going to see for real how effective we were.”

Treasure Island to Sunset Cove: Personal Connection to the Development of Grand Cayman
While Grand Cayman as a whole has seen some major developmental changes over the recent years, many hotels and condominiums changed their looks to keep up with the new image of the island. This includes the condominium where my grandmother’s condo is, Sunset Cove.
My grandparents bought their condo in 1990, not long after the condos were first built in 1981. Originally the condos were called Paradise Manor until the neighboring hotel was later bought by country music investors from Nashville in 1986. They decided to call the neighboring hotel Treasure Island Resort and the condos were quick to follow suit with renaming them as Treasure Island condos.

In the above picture you can notice the structure of the condos. Almost everything was built from wood including the stairs, railings, and roofs. You can also see the close proximity of the neighboring hotel (Treasure Island Resort) in the background of this photo.
In the mid to late 1980’s, shortly after the final construction of the condos, you could start to see the changes being made to improve appearance. Below is a side by side of what the condos originally looked like when first completed in 1981 to what they looked like in the late 80’s after some reconstruction.

These changes were minor and mainly appearance based to start. However, in 1999 things started to change. The condos failed the fire inspection due to the condos being primarily wooden structures. They had to make some major structural changes for safety. This included replacing the wood patios and stairs. This was an enormous project and cost the condo owners a pretty penny. The average cost was about $25,000-30,000 for each condo depending on the size. Below are two photos of the construction to replace the wood in 1999.

Skipping ahead a few years, in 2004, the condo roofs had to be replaced with metal roofs due to damages from Hurricane Ivan. The next major construction project didn’t happen for a few years after the roofs. In 2010, the beach had become almost non-existent from natural causes. So, they placed geo bags under the sand along the crosswalks in hopes of preventing future erosion of the beaches.
They also began a project to create the cove we have there today. This addition of the cove is special to my family because my late grandfather was overseeing this project. To create the cove and make the beach nice for swimming they placed large rocks around in a semi circle formation. Doing this created a break from the waves and current in the waters. The waves would crash against the rocks before entering the cove creating prime swimming conditions for residents and guests. Below is an image of the beach after the about $1 million dollar project to restore it.

The final and most recent change happened shortly after the cove was built. The neighboring hotel, Treasure Island Resort, was taking a turn for the worst and greatly deteriorating. In hopes of distancing from the hotel, there was a decision to rename the condos to what they’re called today, Sunset Cove.
Being able to see these changes at Sunset Cove happen in person and through pictures made me notice more of the island’s development as a whole. Grand Cayman has come a long way from where it was in its earlier years and continues to progress today.
All the above photos and construction information was obtained through a presentation made by the president of the condo association Dave Robinson.

They say Armie left Grand Cayman on June 5th. Where do you think he's going? They also said E hugged him at the airport. Why would she do that? I thought they weren't getting along.
Hello, Anon:
Consider the source, or sources. Unless it’s reported as actual news, by a legitimate news agency or outlet, it’s just another unsubstantiated rumor spread by people with a bias against Armie Hammer. Like his Aunt Casey and her podcast cohorts.
The actual quote was “... a lot of hugs and seemed emotional.”
It said only that Elizabeth and kids dropped him off at the airport. The statement did not indicate who hugged whom. And I can’t determine from the statement that Elizabeth specifically hugged anyone. Read it again, to see what I mean.
It could just have been hugs with the kids, who would naturally be emotional to say goodbye to their dad. Kids get emotional when their dad has to leave them, and so do dads who must leave their kids behind, whatever the reason. That’s just life with a dad whose life and career take him all over the world.
Exes can usually muster up enough civility to get along in front of their children, even when they don’t along otherwise. That’s also just part of life, as a grown adult.
So if they did hug, it may just be as parents setting a good example for their little ones, and living up to the promise they made when they announced their divorce.
Let’s see what develops over the next few days before we make any assumptions based on biased rumors endorsed by Aunt Casey.
Thanks for your question. 😊
