The Tyne Bridge - Newcastle-upon-Tyne - UK
The Tyne Bridge is a through arch bridge over the River Tyne in North East England, linking Newcastle upon Tyne and Gateshead. The bridge was designed by the engineering firm Mott, Hay and Anderson who later designed the Forth Road Bridge, and was built by Dorman Long and Co. of Middlesbrough. The bridge was officially opened on 10 October 1928 by King George V and has since become a defining symbol of Tyneside. It is ranked as the tenth tallest structure in Newcastle.

Wandering Newcastle
Tynesiders are remorselessly cheerful. The average Geordie is so upbeat and optimistic that if you put him in a pot and boil him down to his very essence, the substance left would be Prozac…I’m from Teesside. Teessiders are by nature pessimists. If you put a Teessider in a pot and boiled him down to his very essence, he wouldn’t be a bit surprised.Harry PearsonNorth Country Fair1996

A Complex History
The name of Newcastle, County Longford would seem to indicate that the present house, or an earlier one on or near this site, replaced a more ancient building. The earliest information on the place seems to be from 1680 when the lands of its demesne, formerly part of the O’Farrell territory, are recorded as being purchased by Robert Choppyne (or Choppin) who built here ‘a fayre house and a wooden…

Greetings from Newcastle! Actually, that's a lie, I'm back in Lancaster now, having discovered Tumblr mobile swallows my posts 🤩
I've been at the Newcastle Weekender organised by The Modernist, and my heart is full of love, both for our little community and the modernist delights we saw together.
Those include the Killingworth concrete hippos, the Newcastle Civic Centre, and my favourite car park (so far), the Manors multi-storey. I'll finish serialising Sheffield and start posting Newcastle in a few days' time.
