“It seems like all of the groups of the multiethnic Austro-Hungarian Empire were united in one thing: their love for Franz Joseph I while the German Empire and Russian Empire were also both united in one thing: their hate for Wilhelm II in Germany and their hate for Nicholas II in Russia.” - Submitted chrissybrown1127

Hiccup and Nicholas II parallels:
-Neither of them wanted to be leaders, something both of them admit openly to a person of their trust (Hiccup to Astrid, Nicholas to Sandro)
-Both of them had conservative fathers who were dismissive towards them (Stoick and Alexander III of Russia).
-Both of them are stubborn and refuse to listen to sound advice (Hiccup thinks Drago can be reasoned with, Nicholas believed that autocracy was the way to go).
-Both of them have more sensitive, intellectual leanings (Hiccup liked craftmanship, Nicholas preferred a more homely life).
-Both of them have more closer relationship with their mothers (Valka and Dagmar of Denmark).
-Both of them were wanted by their fathers to be heirs, yet said fathers made no attempt to prepare them for their respective posts (Chief and Tsar).
-Both of them have wives who have more stronger personalities than them (Astrid and Alix of Hesse).
The key difference is that for Nicholas II, there was no happy ending. Nicholas was killed in the 17 of July, 1918 in Ipátiev House alongside his wife, children and servants, after being forced to abdicate in 1917.

Tsarina Alexandra posing in Tsar Nicholas II's uniform, 1896
The young Tsarina posing in her husband's Preobrazhensky uniform, with a cigarette.

The Tsar was coronated in May 1896 wearing the uniform of the Preobrazhensky Life Guards Regiment (slide 6), of which Nicholas II was a colonel, founded in 1690 by Tsar Peter (Pyotr) I. The uniform, alongside the coronation dress worn by Alexandra, have survived and have been beautifully preserved.
The photographs are from Tsar Nicholas’s 1896 diary preserved by GARF, and shared by George Hawkins in ‘Alexandra Feodorovna: Diaries and Correspondence: Volume III The Young Empress 1895 - 1905’
An illustration of Nicholas II wearing the Preobrazhensky uniform, published in the French publication Le monde illustré in 1901

Tsesarevich Nicholas, later Nicholas II, 1894. (x)
Nicky Diary, 6 / 18 May 1894 | And so today I am 26! Already nearer to 30, than to 20 - but then thank God I am engaged, and what’s more, to whom? To such a jewel, to such a divine being as Alix! The telegrams started to flood in after midday. The weather cleared up completely. Alix sent me congratulations from Windsor and I received the usual letter from her. We walked round the lake and sat in the pavillon of love. After tea sat down to those foul telegrams and managed to answer them all before dinner.

I just discovered the art of Pavel Ryzhenko, and oh my goodness. hes done so much art depicting Imperial Russia which are some of my favorites. Unfortunately he was a monarchist and idolised Nicholas II, but I myself am here to admire his beautiful art. ”Imprisoned at Tsarskoye Selo” (2004)

Depicting the Tzar, Tzarina (with a tired and aged appearance from the results of fatigue over her short lifetime of childbirth and stress), and their young son Alexei (with a bandaged bleeding knee, symbolising his hemophilia, in bed - where he was most of his short, short, life.)
“The Ipatiev House. The morning after.” (2004)

Depicting a Bolshevik troup tearing apart a room in the Ipatiev House (or “The house of special purpose”) the morning after the murder of the Romanov family in that very house.
“The Farewell of the Tsar to His Troops” (2004)

Namesake, the Tzar bidding goodbye to his troops in the freezing Russian winter.
About Imperial Russia and monarchism- I am not a supporter of Nicholas II or monarchism, but I believe that he shouldve been given a trial by jury and HIS CHILDREN SHOULD NOT HAVE DIED. Olga, Tatiana, Maria, Anastasia, and Alexei were completely innocent and had nothing to do with their fathers pathetic and disgusting choices as Tzar. So im just putting that there for clarification.
Rest in peace, royal angels Olga, Tatiana, Maria, Anastasia, and Alexei ☦️

Brand new photographs of the Romanovs during the Tercentenary tour
The photos depict the Romanov family during the Tercentenary celebrations tour in 1913, and include a lovely photograph of the Grand Duchesses relaxing and smiling.
To my knowledge, these photographs have not been previously published. The largest of the photographs are 9 x 11cm approximately. Each lot of photos have been kept safely stored in photograph wallets.
I found these being auctioned on eBay by Bibelots London, an antique dealer. Numerous other photographs, letters, and ephemera relating to the Romanov family are also listed for sale. The photographs are being sold as a set of two lots, listed at £1,250.00 and £950.00 respectively.
The photographs are from the collection of Princess Nadine Romanovskya, who married the Romanov children's paternal cousin, Prince Andrei Alexandrovich, in 1942. Born Nadine Sylvia Ada McDougall, she was a descendent from the Scottish Clan McDougall, and met Prince Andrei - then in exile and widowed - at Balmoral Castle. The couple had one child, Olga Andreevna, born in 1950. Princess Nadine passed away in 2000, aged 92.
Also featured are photographs of regimental parades, and Countess Anastasia 'Nastenka' Vasilievna Hendrikova with Baroness Sophia 'Isa' Karlovna Buxhoeveden.
Sources - please give appropriate credit if you share, most importantly to Bibelots London
