Characters and Face Claims*
The Irish
Willem Nigel “The Magpie” Walsh
- Stern but cheeky. Fashionable. Protective
- Deals in rare/illegal plants and gems. Launders money in fronts: Blossom (strip club), a coin operated laundromat, three car washes
- Eventually expands over time with Lent winnings and Russian alliance with Lucky Dog Hotel
“A perfect nightmare of flowers and scents”
Robert Isaac “Pretty Boy” Byrne
- Lax but eager. Scrappy. Needy
- A local punk who gets caught by mid tier goons trying to rip off The Magpie. Instead of being hurt, he is taken in and given a life of luxury to be a kept boy
- Eventually shows a knack for the business and becomes a great mobster in his own right. Fucks any man he can get his hands on, and some women. The glue that holds the Boston mob scene together
“It is no crime to fall for an older man”
Declan Walsh (second in command Irish mob): Gabriel Byrne
- Runs the more violent and risky parts of the Irish mob
Mickey Collins (cousin from Ireland, usurper): Michael Fassbender
- Stirs up trouble, not to be trusted
Donovan (driver/undertaker) : Kevin James
- The Magpie’s personal driver who isn’t paid enough for the stuff he has to deal with in his limo
Leonard (pilot/bro of Donnie): John C. Reilly
- Eventually The Magpie purchases a private plane and hires Donnie’s brother from Chicago to be the pilot for business and pleasure endeavors
Lucas (friend of Rob/son of Leonard): Leo Reilly
James “The Nose” O’Donnell (runs Blossom/money launders for Willem): Christian Bale
The Italians
Don Marcello Rodolfo (Italian Mob boss) : Vincent D’Onofrio
- Main antagonist of The Irish, very quick tempered and repressed, has an obsession with Pretty Boy
Charlotte “Lottie” Rodolfo (Marcello’s wife): Marisa Tomei
- Firecracker, strong-willed and loves her husband dearly. Builds connections for her husband’s dealings (and possibly other tribes) through her travel agency and familial old money
Peter Rodolfo (Lottie’s son/Marcello’s step-son): Tom Holland
- Loves to mess with Marcello by hanging out with Rob and his boys. Momma’s boy. Sweet faced trouble maker. Constantly teases about defecting from the family business to peruse music.
Gianluca Vacchi - Himself, client of Marcello
- Very rich and likes to party
Anthony Mazzi (Italian): Joe Manganiello
Michael Cenci (Italian): Bobby Cannavale
Gabriel Valero (Italian): Milo Ventimiglia
- The three above are often referred to as The Stallions. Love to use Pretty Boy as a way to blow off steam and be proxies for Marcello when he is busy. They’re listed from oldest to youngest.
Kenneth Gattegna (baker): Lee Pace (half Jewish)
- Owns one of Marcello’s fronts and provides baked goods for another, Marcello’s Italian restaurant
Paul Gattegna (brother of Kenneth): Paul Rudd (half Jewish)
- An actor who moves back home when he falls on hard times and gets mixed up in the mob dealings because of his brother’s association. Kind of a lost puppy
Len Gattegna (brother of Kenneth and Paul): Timothée Chalamet
- College graduate who is a better actor than his eldest brother. Hangs out with Rob, Maxim, Rami and Peter. Kind of a slut.
The Russians**
Fyodor Laska (Russian mobster): David Harbour
- Face of the new and improved Russian mob. Owns and operates The Hammer, a bar and home base
Pietro/“Uncle Pete” Laska (Russian mob boss): Peter Stormare
- Mostly deals with financial business, he delegates a lot to his nephew but will get involved if provoked
Pavel Kogan (undertaker/counterfeiter): Jon Bernthal
- Artist and boxer, he heads the counterfeiting operation and deals with the casualties of Fyodor’s dirty work. Seemingly the only guy that won’t sleep with Pretty Boy. Jewish, unlike Fyodor and his family who are Catholic
Rabbi Perlman (friend of Pavel): Ron Perlman
- A cigar-smoking rabbi who has his own past in crime. Gives Pavel a place to go when he can’t deal with the Catholics around him
Maxim Dyomin (Fyodor’s nephew): Taron Egerton
- College drop out working with his uncle. Friend of Pretty Boy
Rami Gamil (Maxim’s best friend/tattoo artist): Rami Malek
- Egyptian-American college friend of Maxim, provides tattoos for the various tribes. Friend of Pretty Boy. Accepted as part of the Russian tribe through Maxim
Lila “Sky” Sklar (Pavel’s girlfriend/Rob’s friend): Sky Ferreira
- Party girl and singer, doesn’t know much about her boyfriend’s dealings. Becomes friends with Pretty Boy as a side effect of Pretty Boy hanging around Pavel and trying to seduce him but failing
Jacob Hoz (mobster/politician)/ John “Jack/Eben” Hoz (boxer/muscle)/ Benjamin Hoz (crooked cop) : Jake Gyllenhaal [triplets]
- Jacob has long hair and is a local politician pulling strings for the Russian mob
- John (Jack to his brothers and Eben to Pavel) is a fellow boxer and friend to Pavel, provides muscle for the Russian mob. Buzzed hair.
- Benjamin has an undercut, is a crooked cop that is the most distant of the brothers because he claims no loyalty to any one tribe (deals with The Magpie, Marcello and Fyodor)
Misc.
Nico (prison mate of Rob): Noel Fisher
- When Pretty Boy has to go to jail at some point, he makes friends with a petty criminal, no tribe associations known
Senator Hal Forrest (politician): Chris Pine
- A bit of a wildcard, much like Benjamin, deals with all tribes and is a bit of a mutt. May have a downlow situation with Benjamin
Echo Lyre aka “The Thrasher” (arms dealer/assassin): Crispin Glover
- No known origin, works for hire and deals arms to all tribes. Known to take on the speech and mannerisms of his clients. Not even sure if that is his real name
*- may not be complete, may be edited and updated
**- some Russian members are not themselves Russian but have ties to the tribe nonetheless and are associated

The tactical voting dilemma: Canterbury goes down to the wire
Tumblr media
By Donald Macintyre
"I don't really believe in tactical voting," voter Emily Blake is telling Labour canvasser Huw Kyffin. "Ethically you should vote for your chosen party." In her case that's the Liberal Democrats, but she's hesitant. If she backs her chosen party, she increases the chances of a Conservative victory in her Canterbury constituency.
So can he count on her vote on December 12, asks Kyffin. "Not quite yet," Emily says, politely.
Thousands of such agonised exchanges, replicated in different ways across the country, could yet decide this extraordinary general election. Indeed, Canterbury is totemic for reasons that go beyond its status as a hyper-marginal (Labour's Rosie Duffield won in 2017 by 187 votes).
It's also a test of whether an attractive, energetic and independent-minded local candidate can outweigh the negatives attaching to her party's national leadership, of the claims that the real divide in British politics is now between Leavers and Remainers, and of whether some new political  alignment may hesitantly be taking shape, at least in southern England, which is catalysed by, but not confined to, Brexit.
YouGov's seat-by seat-analysis predicts that Canterbury will once again be Labour – the only such seat in Kent. But it won't be a pushover. Without a chance of winning themselves, the Lib Dem leadership insisted on parachuting in a new candidate, Claire Malcolmson,  after the previous one, journalist Tim Walker, stood down explicitly to give the resolutely pro-Remain Duffield a clear run.
In reality, there are few signs of signs of active canvassing  for Malcolmson and Labour canvassers report a steady stream of Lib Dem conversions. But YouGov still identified an 11% Lib Dem base.  Anna Firth, the Tory candidate and a Vote Leave stalwart, has been luckier. The Brexit candidate withdrew and was not replaced.
Having spent a few days talking to a wide range of electors across the city - pro and anti Brexit, students and locals, working and middle class, black and white - I think Duffield can win provided she can make herself heard above the din of the air war. She must overcome two problems: doubts about Corbyn (a "bit too communist", as one hospital porter on the minimum wage described him) and about electoral politics in general.
Duffield herself thinks that some people "are so fed up with voting and they don't trust politicians - and when people are lying and they're running the country or breaking the law without seeming to care, I can't blame them". Her answer is to stress that as the one genuinely local candidate – she has lived in Canterbury for 22 years - "I care about them and understand their way of life here."
She responds similarly to the Corbyn issue. The Labour leader's policies are clearly attracting many of the city's 35,000 students, but he remains a handicap for some older voters. Duffield points to the public's "love or loath relationship" with both party leaders. "All I can keep saying is: 'well, I'm  not Jeremy Corbyn'. I think it's obvious that if there are  things I don't agree with the leadership, I'm not going to go along with it. If you don't like the manager of your football team during a particular season you don't abandon your football team."
Her public stand against the party's handling of anti-semitism complaints are why Canterbury is one of the select seats in which the Jewish Labour Movement have campaigned. On Brexit, of course, Duffy has consistently backed a second referendum since she was elected. "I wanted the job and it was a lovely, lovely surprise," she says. "But I don't want it enough to compromise my principles. I promised the people here I would be a Remain MP. I had a coalition of people here including Greens, Lib Dems, even Tories, and I'm not going to let them down." Many of the 45% of voters here who backed Leave, she suggests, care more about public services than the EU issue.
Duffield's determination to be politically her own woman may be her primary asset. "I think all MPs have to do that now on both sides," she says, "because the country is so divided". And yet, even if she isn't tribalist, she's still wholly Labour. She picked Nye Bevan as her hero at the Whitstable hustings and her opening statement ringingly denounced "ten years of austerity and the punishing cruel harsh things it has done to poor people", ranging from "Pip assessments to the way asylum seekers and refugees are treated by this government".
The reference to a "coalition of people" is apt. Last weekend Duffield had the starry support at a city centre rally of Emily Thornberry in full-on Remain mode, and - partly in response to Duffield's stunning October Commons speech describing her own abuse by a recent partner – of the Women's Equality Party,  including an enthusiastic Sandi Toksvig.
Canterbury for Europe, one of several overlapping groupings increasingly focussed on returning Duffield on December 12, includes Lib Dems like former council leader Alex Perkins  and even former Tories, such as  Joe Egerton. As a pro-European Tory council candidate, Egerton was expelled for refusing to back the previous MP, Julian Brazier, because he accepted support from Ukip.
"I can no longer regard my former party as that of Disraeli or Macmillan," he says. "I don't  agree with all Rosie Duffield's policies but she clearly believes that the only use of power is to secure the welfare of the people."
Just before last week's hustings Kevin Tubb, 41,  who not only used to vote Conservative but once worked for William Hague, said he would "have to hold my nose and vote for Rosie Duffield" because he was a firm Remainer. Midway through the hustings, he tapped me on the shoulder, and made a thumbs up sign. He clearly would no longer need to hold his nose.
Whether or not this presages a flight of crypto-Remain Tories to Duffield remains to be seen. But it's telling that the Tory candidate presents such a subdued form of euroscepticism. She tweeted after the 2016 Leave vote her congratulations to "political heroes" Nigel Farage and Daniel Hannan for making it happen. But now  Firth is trying  to make Johnson's pitch sound as palatable as possible to Remain-inclined voters. "It's not a far-right, Farage deal," she insisted to Whitstable voters last week.
Canterbury has in fact had an anti-Tory majority since 1997, one that failed to mobilise in successive elections because it was split between Labour, the Lib Dems, and latterly the Greens. Everything could come  down to whether voters like Emily Blake can bring themselves to back a Labour candidate as a way to stop the Tories.
If she wins it will be more than just a Labour victory. It will be a triumph for that "coalition of people" and a much-needed boost for the social democratic tradition in British politics.

Roy Keane vs Vinnie Jones was the ultimate clash of the titans
Tumblr media Tumblr media
“It’s good to get angry,” former Manchester United captain Roy Keane once said. “It’s an emotion and part of the game. It’s good to go a bit mad but I don’t throw teacups around. That’s not my style – I’d rather throw punches.”Throughout his illustrious career, Keane loved to intimidate his opponents with his no-nonsense and unapologetic style of play. From standing over an injured Alf-Inge Haaland to confronting Patrick Vieira in the Highbury tunnel, he always seemed to come out on top. But that wasn’t always the case. Back in February 1994, Keane was still in his first season at United following his move from Nottingham Forest. The midfielder had just started to assert his authority in games, bullying anyone that dared to stroll into his territory. Like facing the final boss at the end of Super Mario, he now had to come up against Vinnie Jones in an FA Cup tie against Wimbledon. Part of the ‘Crazy Gang’ team that won the FA Cup in 1988, Jones had returned to Wimbledon for a second spell and certainly hadn’t mellowed. He relished conflict and was renowned for his full-blooded approach to the game, often ensuring that his opponents lived off a diet of grapes and Lucozade for a few weeks. Vinnie Jones recieves the fastest booking in English football, as he clattered into an opponent after 3 seconds. pic.twitter.com/WvYWal9raX — 1990s Football (@1990_football) July 14, 2021 When you look up the word ‘tough guy’ in the dictionary, you’ll see Jones’ face snarling back at you. He had even angered the FA by releasing a Christmas video entitled ‘Soccer’s Hard Men’ in 1992. “The FA have given me a pat on the back,” Jones said after being fined £20,000 and receiving a suspended six-month ban from all football. “I’ve taken violence off the terraces and onto the pitch.” While Jones was widely regarded as the hardest bastard in British football, Keane was still the young pretender at this stage, hoping to ultimately overthrow him. Jones made his presence known during the early stages at Selhurst Park, barging into Keane with a tackle that was later than a London bus. It temporarily left Keane in a heap on the floor, but this foul was a warm embrace compared to what was to follow. Keane attempted to hit back, only for Jones to leap off the floor and headbutt him in the crown jewels. Considering what Jones did to Paul Gascoigne in 1987, Keane might actually consider himself a bit fortunate. Vinnie Jones attempting to headbutt Roy Keane in the family jewels will wake you up this Saturday morning. 👀 pic.twitter.com/UrclJwYtuc — Stu’s Football Flashbacks (@stusfootyflash) November 14, 2020 A year before Eric Cantona’s infamous karate kick on a Crystal Palace fan, the Wimbledon star decided to showcase his own martial art skills at the same stadium. Within the first 20 minutes, Jones lunged at Cantona with a horrendous knee-high challenge that would even make Nigel de Jong flinch. The United players, who probably felt that they needed some police protection, immediately ran over to help their team-mate and complain to the referee. After nearly being cut in half, Cantona initially looked set to confront Jones before coming to his senses and walking away. While a tackle like that would probably lead to a life-long ban these days, Jones remarkably remained on the pitch and was shown a yellow card by the referee. It’s pretty safe to assume that VAR would have intervened if this had happened during the 2020-21 season. Like a misbehaving schoolboy, the midfielder refused to learn his lesson and crashed into Paul Parker before receiving his final warning. There’s walking on thin ice and then there’s driving a truck over it. Flashback to Feb 1994, and Vinnie Jones is on a mission during Wimbledon’s FA Cup 5th round tie against Man Utd. Here, he takes out Eric Cantona with an appalling high tackle, before running straight through Paul Parker in a mad couple of minutes. Old school fouling. ⚽️#mufc pic.twitter.com/qbPK8uQoIw — Stu’s Football Flashbacks (@stusfootyflash) April 6, 2020 Having lost the physical battle, Keane and his United team-mates decided to let their football do the talking. On the brink of half-time, Cantona set himself up with a brilliant first touch before firing a stunning half-volley past the goalkeeper. A moment of magic amid the mayhem. Keane began to hold his own in midfield during the second half, knowing that Jones simply couldn’t afford to make another risky challenge. The former Republic of Ireland international also proved that he was far more than just a tough guy, producing a stunning pass that picked out Ryan Giggs, who could only hit his effort straight at the Wimbledon goalkeeper. United continued to dominate possession and doubled their lead when Paul Ince headed Giggs’ corner into the back of the net. The travelling Reds began to chant ‘ole’ with every successful pass, irritating Jones who was left chasing shadows in the middle of the park. The fact that he stayed on the pitch for a full 90 minutes is nothing short of a miracle. Denis Irwin then drove forward and exchanged passes with Ince before finding the bottom corner, rubbing salt into Wimbledon’s wounds. While the United team were left with more than a few bruises, they refused to be intimidated and progressed to the FA Cup quarter-finals. Today is the 25th anniversary of this Eric Cantona volley vs Wimbledon. Forget seagulls and trawlers, this is f*ckinng sensational technique.pic.twitter.com/XyyfSF6bXh — A Funny Old Game (@sid_lambert) February 20, 2019 Jones had a few more encounters with Keane before his retirement in 1999 but felt that the former Republic of Ireland international was never able to bully him. “If you’re talking hard nuts, give me ‘Big Bad Billy’ Whitehurst over Roy Keane any day,” Jones wrote in an EasyOdds column in 2020. “On and off the pitch, Billy was different class. “To be honest Roy didn’t make a lot of noise when I played him – I don’t really remember a tackle. A fantastic footballer, yes, and a man I like and respect, but I’d have him well below Billy in the pecking order, and below Steve McMahon and Bryan Robson too.” While Keane probably won’t admit it, his battles with Jones seemingly inspired him to turn things up a notch during the late 1990s, He embraced his dark side and ceemeted his status as football’s next big baddie, eventually taking Jones’ record for the most red cards in Premier League history. Keane’s battles with Vieira came to define the Premier League era but they arguably wouldn’t have been possible without his apprenticeship under Jones. By Nathan Egerton More from Planet Football 12 of the hardest bastards to play in the Premier League: Keane, Batty, Jones… Lawrie Sanchez: Beating Liverpool in the FA Cup final wasn’t a giantkilling Can you name the 20 players with the most red cards in Prem history? The FPL metric that says Calvert-Lewin is a better prospect than Aguero
Goals are the key currency both in football and Fantasy Premier League, but how can you predict which players will come up with the goods in future?
Doing so is tricky, but the FPL’s own Threat metric – which measures the quality of a player’s chances in front of goal – can help.
A score of around 100 Threat roughly equates to a goal’s worth of chances according to historical data, and can act as a truer indicator of form than a simple goals tally.
So which players have offered bang for their buck ahead of gameweek 24?
Tumblr media
Calvert-Loving
Tumblr media
(Martin Rickett/PA)
Everton’s Dominic Calvert-Lewin is the Premier League’s in-form striker according to Threat, with an average score of 71.4 in the five gameweeks ahead of GW24.
The Toffee registered almost as much Threat in that time (357) as he did in the rest of the season beforehand (371) including achieving his first 100+ score against Newcastle in GW20.
With four goals in those five league games, DCL’s Threat scores confirm he is scoring in line with his performance – in layman’s terms, that means if he continues to perform as he has been, the goals should continue to flow.
Those exhibitions of his talent have in turn produced excellent points returns for those who have backed the Englishman, with two double-figures gameweek scores in his last nine games.
He even has a greater Threat per appearance score than Sergio Aguero from GW19 to GW23 – but don’t count the Argentinian out just yet…
All About Aguero
Tumblr media
(Mike Egerton/PA)
An injury proved something of a stumbling block for Aguero and Manchester City before the new year, but the forward has returned with intent.
Aguero might have missed one game and appeared as a substitute in another between GW19 and GW23, but in that time he has accrued a mammoth 283 Threat courtesy of two colossal scores.
GW22 saw the 31-year-old notch a hat-trick, 20 FPL points and a Threat score of 109 – the next week he scored a brace and notched his highest Threat score of the season: 151.
Such scores tell us Aguero is truly back to his best, although it won’t be of much use to City in the league as Liverpool march towards their first PL title.
But at 19.7% ownership, perhaps bringing him in for GW25 could help you get ahead in your mini league.
Try Troy
Tumblr media
(David Davies/PA)
Troy Deeney is another player whose Threat scores suggest he is worth investing in, and with just 1.7% ownership he could prove a lethal differential.
The Watford striker has flourished under Nigel Pearson with the fourth best Threat per app score between GW19 and GW23, scoring at 56 per game compared to 22.1 per game beforehand.
His strength in front of goal has led to five goals in seven games, as well as individual Threat scores of 117 and 94.
That all translates to a lot of FPL points, notching scores of seven, 12 and six in recent weeks, while his price (£6.2m) is appealing too.
These are the in-form Threat kings of the FPL – could one of them do the business for your team?

Pride and Prejudice was first published on this day in 1813.
Rare first editions of some of the most famous books in the world - including Pride and Prejudice - are to be sold in Nottingham. The novel appeared in 1813 in three small volumes. So unknown was Jane Austen at the time that the words "By the author of Sense & Sensibility" appear instead of her name on the title page, writes Nigel Kirk. That was her first book and was published in 1811 as being "By a Lady" and for which she had to pay the publisher, Thomas Egerton, for the cost of publication. Source: nottinghampost.com
You could have purchased the first edition of Pride and Prejudice for 18s. Today one of those editions would cost you more than £60,000. The first print run of 1500 copies sold out and a second edition was printed in November of 1813. A third edition was published in 1817. A French edition also appeared in 1813, and there were translations in German, Danish and Swedish. The First US edition was published in 1832. At the present time, Pride and Prejudice sells approximately 110,000 copies a year in about 130 different editions.
