A Nimona sequel where while Humanity is healing and expanding beyond the Wall, they meet an absolutely ancient Monster who was alive during the first Human-Monster crisis, except in reality, there was just a disease that wiped out most of the monsters of old and the early humans did nothing bc it benefited them. Boom, your not-at-all subtle reference to the AIDS crisis and you can explore the interactions, tensions, and solidarity between the older and younger generations of the ostracized.

'Nimona can't cook' guys Nimona has been alive for 1000 years, and has had to probably take care of herself for that whole time. Nimona can cook because she's had to cook for herself with limited ingredients for eons. Nimona wasn't scared of the arrow because she's probably had injuries worse than that that she's had to figure out how to treat by herself. Nimona can fight so well because she's had nobody else to fight for her. Nimona probably has the best self-preservation of anyone in the kingdom because she HAD to, she had no one else to take care of her. Gloreth was the first person to accept Nimona as she was (before turning on her), but even then, Gloreth couldn't take care of her. She was a child. The first person we ever know of who takes care of her is Ballister, but before that she had no one.
So yeah, I think Nimona can probably cook, and can do basically everything else needed to survive

I'll only take the Oscars seriously when they start nominating animated films in other categories that aren't strictly for animation. Spiderverse deserved a Best Score and Visual Effects nomination. I'd even go as far as to say it should've had a crack at Best Picture. Mutant Mayhem was certainly better than Elemental, if on a purely visual level.
This is biased, but if Elemental wins, it's probably because that's the only animated movie the voters saw. If The Boy and The Heron wins, it's because it's Miyazaki and they'd look good letting him win.
I fully expect either Spiderverse or Heron to win, but if Nimona does, I'd be so happy for the folks at Bluesky and Netflix who kept working on it despite the incredible challenges they faced. I hope Disney are wiping the egg off their face, realizing they shut down the studio that helped produce an Oscar-nominated movie within their last days.

I saw Nimona! It was delightful, especially Nimona herself- I loved the animation for her shapeshifting, and she was a total joy to watch. A menace and a woobie. A 10/10 meowmeow who can actually turn into a cat and meow. Tragic backstory has me clutching at my heart, no notes. They did a great job with Ambrosius and Ballister, though they're very different from their original counterpoints (especially Ambrosius, who is wrong but also basically a sweetheart. Ballister is also a sweetheart, but that rings pretty true to the original to me). I think the biggest emotional/relationship change is that the crux of the respectability politics metaphors has shifted from Ballister and Ambrosius to Ballister and Nimona, and I think that really works, especially in the context of the other changes they made. Nimona gets her own xagnetoesque quasi-romance, and on a shallow note I thought that was extremely tragicute and it really worked for me. My only critique is that bits of the movie felt a little rushed. I would have liked it if they had let a little more time pass in-universe and given a few of the big emotional scenes a little more breathing room, but it all came together and it gave me that good movie feeling where you sink into it and stop thinking about the story as a story because you're too busy experiencing it.

if we where to have a nimona sequel(press x to doubt)
i'd want a prequel! i'd want more info about Gloreth and Nimona!(personally....i don't want any info about how Nimona got like this....esp if it is negative..... bc i feel like it would take away from her identity! her shapeshifting is a positive thing for her and if it where to be negative it would ruin it for me. Nimona is Just Nimona, we don't need to know how this happened to her in order to love her!!!!👿👿)
i think a movie about Gloreth forming the institute and her processing the fact she betrayed her best friend and how the town has told her over and over again that Nimona is a monster and during this Nimona watches......😈😈😈😈yes pls(idk how the full plot would go!! but theres a concept 4 u)
i dunno if we'd ever get another thing i'm thinking of in this movie bc it doesn't rlly make sense but teenage Baillistor and Ambrosius training shenanigans😈😈😈
IDK!!! and if we got a sequel instead i'd like scenes of Bail and Ambrosius b4 nimona comes back of them going through it as they learn to heal after everything that happened AND THEN NIMONA AGAIN AND THEN FAMILY SHENANIGANS!!! they could explore outside the wall(this kinda makes more sense as a series which i'd eat up)
these are just my thoughts🤗🤗🤗🤗

Hello Nimona fandom ! I have an importany question to all of you and I'm looking fowards to your responce !
So, I'm making a Nimona sequel fanfic and have some ideas for a plot and new characters (one of them is based on one of mine online besties @xxlunadrawsstuffxx's OC ; I hope you're doing well btw) f.ex Lunaria who is a douther of a king of a united magical tribe/kingdom. Citizens of the tribe/kingdom are shapeshifters that have an ability to change in one animal form (they have to tell their king which form they choose). During first Nimona and Lunaria meeting, Lunaria finds out that Nimona can transform into any form (smth that only royals can do), so her first thought is that her new friend (later gf) might be related to a ruler of a part of the unexisted tribe. So then, Lunaria introduces Nimona to Lupusoro (bc that's the name of her father is). Lupusoro thinks that Lunaria's "theory" might be possible, so he asks his douther to take her somewhere far away and kill her. Lunaria says "ok, fine" (as she was kinda brainwashed by her father that is a main villain). Lunaria tells Nimona, that both of them can start a joerney toghether to find Nims parents. Nims says "yes", even tho she's kinda (surely) insecure. During their trip, they are both discovering each other and fell in love (hehe, lesbian power, bitch !). And yes, Lunie breaks her dad's plan and realises he was manipulting her (becouse of his trauma, but I will talk about more later). In some scene N&L finds out, that the king of the fire tribe is already dead, just like the queen. There is a scene where Lunaria apologies Nimona for that massege and confess her love to her. But then, Lupusoro appeares and breaks everything. But then, he explain his hate on Nimona and her father and tells his and Lunaria's backstory. It turns out that Lupusoro's united tribe/kingdom used to consist of 4 tribes of water, earth, air and fire. The tribes of water and fire were enemies, so in fact it ended up with a war between them. During the war, many citizens from the water tribe died and one of them was a queen herself (I mean, Lupusoro's wife and Lunaria's mother). The ending would be Nimona realasing that her real parents are Bal and Amb, becouse they were the ones that have been giving her parenthood love, that she needs. And also Lunaria and Lupusoro's relationship improvment at some point. That's my currenst idea for a plot.
But anyways, my question is do you have some other ideas for other plots, or some of your theories from Nimona, that you want me to raise in sequel.
Write in coments or reblogs.

Omfg I finished watching Nimona and- *takes a deep breath* Well damn, I put this on so I can watch something while I folded laundry and then I got incredibly sidetracked lolol. But fear not! I did finish folding and putting the clothes away. *finger guns*
OK NOW MY THOUGHTS!

I really enjoyed the mixture of a medieval setting with futuristic technology. The animation was incredibly well done and the voice acting was spot on. There were so many jokes that were layers upon layers and honestly with the sheer amount of rich details shown, it's worth a re-watch to spot them all.
I think the movie worked so well because it touched on a lot of real life issues that is highly relatable from a historical AND modern viewpoint. The marginalization and ostracization of anything and anyone who is "different". Misinformation and twisting truths to serve a nefarious purpose. How meritocracy and classism can be wielded like weapons or a shield depending on the narrative and who benefits from it. Propaganda and tactics of fear, especially starting early with the children. (Those "Put Your Faith In The Institute" subway posters gave me so much red flags!!!). Struggling with depression, loneliness, suicidal ideation and how HARD and ISOLATING it can be when you don't feel accepted for just EXISTING.
In contrast, I feel like with Nimona constantly asserting herself, refusing to be put in a box, driving Ballister to think BEYOND the "small minded questions" was incredibly refreshing and SO VITALLY IMPORTANT.
Because let's be REAL CLEAR here...this movie is obviously about being transgender. There are reviews and thought pieces out there that are way more articulate than I am but I will say, it's so wonderful seeing representation like this. I hope there's kids (and adults!) out there who sees this movie and thinks "Wow. I can be me. Just me. And that's okay. Actually, it's more than okay. This is how it should be." BUT ALSO "Our differences should be celebrated because that's what makes everyone so beautiful."
Also Ballister and Ambrosius were SO FUCKING CUTE and I'm so glad they got a happy ending! They smooched! They hugged! They held hands! Omfg my little fangirl shipping heart was all aflutter! Hell, even Todd kind of redeemed himself!! And fuck that two faced maniacal Director! She's just as bad as Gloreth!
Will there be a sequel? I have no idea but it would be pretty cool to see how Nimona's return will unfold. There better be a fucking parade!!!

On one hand, I feel like the story and world and Nimona would have benefitted from it being something like a miniseries or limited series, but on the other I know the movie went through production hell and it’s a miracle it was able to see the light of day, so I should probably be a little more lenient

So I finally got around to seeing the new Pixar movie, Elemental, and it's pretty great actually? Like, I know the marketing made it look very generic. The trailers seem to give the whole movie away, make you feel like you've not only already seen this movie, you've seen it a dozen times. But believe me, that's not true. There's a lot more going on with the main character and her relationship to her family and her culture and the pressure she's under as a second generation immigrant trying to honor the sacrifices her parents made for her sake. And the love interest water guy who seems so deeply mediocre in the trailers actually has a lot more going for him as well, putting so much effort in and so much on the line. Like, yes, it's a different-worlds odd-couple romance with a kind of strained racial / immigrant metaphor, but it's a really good and earnest and heartwarming version of that.
And it Just Looks Breathtaking - the colors, the use of transparency, the water and fire effects especially, the way the characters are always flickering or bubbling or flowing, every part of them always in motion even when they're standing still. If you're an animation fan you'll be watching it in awe wondering 'how is that even possible', which, I mean after having the same feelings watching Spiderverse 2, it really is a rich summer for animation.
Sure, from a business perspective Elemental looks like such an obvious mistake. And maybe from that angle it was. I mean, to spend so much money on an original movie with an honestly rather subdued plot and concept - like, there's a reason romance movies are generally relatively low budget affairs - and then to throw it up against Spiderverse 2 of all things? The executives at Disney are out of their goddamn minds. But as irrational as Elemental's budget might have been, every penny of it is on display. If you're an animation fan you really shouldn't miss the chance to see it on the big screen
