To those who haven't received the news: Heavenly Creatures is up for the movie night tomorrow! Here's another post with some basic info as a prep.
What?: Heavenly Creatures, a 1994 film starring Melanie Lynskey and Kate Winslet. It is one of the more well-known films by Peter Jackson from his pre-lotr days (and had some influence on it with the fantasy sequences).
Juliet, a teenager emigrated from England to New Zealand, forms a close bond with Pauline. When their parents deem their relationship to be turning too possessive, the girls will do anything to stay together.
Why should you see it?: If the mere presence of Melanie Lynskey isn't enough, then watch it for the inspiration it formed for the chimera that is JackieandShauna. Also, Tawny Cypress cites it as a seminal wlw-discovery work.
Some warning!: I got the following from some people that have already seen the film.
Graphic violence (near the end), discussions of illness, homophobia in a religious and medical context, comphet (sex scene), CSA.
I'd suggest to look up more detailed lists of warnings if you have some issues with stuff that is in Yellowjackets. This one is more drama/thriller than outright horror.
When?: Tomorrow! (Sunday 30th of July) at 10PM/22:00 CEST!
The link to the Kosmi room will be shared here ~20 minutes in advance.

i like making up celebrity casts for musicals so let's actually post one:
legally blonde the musical cast with jyp artists (i hope this reaches the right people lol)
elle woods: my first instinct was lily of nmixx but then i remembered. nina of niziu exists. so... elle woods is nina!
emmett forrest: jooyeon or jungsu of xdinary heroes seem like a good fits to me but i can't quite decide between them. i think jooyeon's vocal range fits the demands more though?
professer callahan: he kinda has to be felix cause i can't think of any other jyp artists who are baritones lol
warner huntington III: i think seungmin or bang chan would be a decent fit. im leaning towards bang chan though - i think he'd play the character better but seungmin would be better vocally. so seungmin
vivienne kensington: she has to be either lily or haewon - i can't think of any other jyp artists who could hit the notes in legally blonde remix. im leaning towards haewon because i want lily for...
paulette: lily of nmixx has the comedic chops to pull off this character 100%
margot: bae of nmixx or ryujin of itzy
serena: jihyo or nayeon of twice (probably jihyo)
pilar: jiwoo or sullyoon of nmixx
brooke wyndham: kyujin of nmixx
nikos: hyunjin
carlos: gaon of xdinary heroes
kyle: changbin
enid: ryujin
aaron: o.de of xdinary heroes

“You seriously still think I’m the Chosen One?” Joy scoffs incredulously. She doesn’t care if it sounds rude. She’s having a bad day and this is just too rich, “That’s actually really funny, Victor. I needed that.”
Victor looks irritated, but doesn’t say anything about her tone. And why should he? After everything he put her through last term, Joy thinks she has the right to come off a little bit rude.
“You assembled the Cup.” He says, rather impatiently, “I saw it.”
“That was—“ Nina! That was Nina! “That wasn’t me Victor. I mean, I didn’t see who is was. That whole night is a blur. Sorry. Do we have to be talking about this right now? Can we just go back to pretending that all that stuff never happened? This is so weird.” -s2 fic about Victor still thinking that Joy is the Chosen One
send me a “💌” and I’ll post a line or two from one of my HOA wips!

Oh I see the temps finally realized they have thee Cynthia Watros as Nina and that having her grovel while being the punching bag is a waste of her talents.
Her not instantly groveling to Michael's stupid blackmail and snapping at him actually made those scenes interesting in an otherwise deeply stupid story.

As promised, on August 6th the Basement will be screening Ginger Snaps! Here's the post for preparation if you wanna join in!
What?: Ginger Snaps is a 2000 horror film starring Katharine Isabelle and Emily Perkins as two sisters with a facination for anything morbid. The film is directed by John Fawcett, who co-created Orphan Black.
Ginger and Bridget have a motto: "Out by sixteen or dead on the scene, but together forever". When Ginger gets attacked by a wild creature, the dread of growing up and apart is suddenly the least of their issues.
Why should you see it?: It is regarded a (cult-)classic by many. Coming-of-age horror can be seen as starting with this one. It's commentary on puberty through a werewolf lens is not done before, nor has really happened since (no, Teen Wolf doesn't count as horror to me). On a technical level, it opted for practical effects instead of jumping on the early yet clunky CGI train. The film is all the better for it.
(Michael Gingold for Fangoria, May 10 2001)
Some warnings!: Some expected warnings of body horror and gore. There's elements of self-harm (both real and fake in the context of the film). There is a (somewhat famous) montage early in the film of staged deaths and suicides by the sisters.
SA and animal death are some big ones. I'm gonna have to skim the movie to see where exactly they happen, but will try to give a heads up on time while we are watching.
When?: Sunday 6th of August at 10PM/22:00 CEST!
(this was listed wrong in the poll that went out for the August 13 film. I'm a dumbass)
Link to the kosmi room will be shared here ~20 minutes in advance.
