Golden oldie A little golden elephant hangs out in the corner of the table of contents for the gospel of St Mark in the Lothair Gospels, made between 849 and 851 for Lothair I, Charlemagne's grandson. This manuscript is extraordinary in many ways-- there's lots of expensive purple and gold, a portrait of Lothair himself, the works-- but one of the most interesting features is this tiny elephant, because it is recognizably an elephant. (It can be contrasted with some other attempts at drawing "elephants" from Northern Europe on this blog.) So why did these artists get it right?

Well, people were still alive in the Frankish realms who had actually seen an elephant! In the early 800s, the Abbaids caliph Harun al-Rashid sent Lothair's grandfather, Charlemagne, an elephant called Abul Abbas. Charlemagne had allied with the Abbasids (based in Baghdad) against the Umayyads (based in the Iberian peninsula), who were the rival power along Charlemagne's southern border and who were the descendants of the dynasty the Abbasids had overthrown in order to claim power. You can read more about this in Sam Ottewill-Soulsby's new book, The Emperor and the Elephant. Side note: these Carolingian illuminators were into pink and blue 1000 years before Taylor Swift entered her Lover era.

after han finished his solo scene, vivie screamed into the mix "that was the hottest thing i've seen all year" - she was referring to the part when Han pulled out his electric guitar.

when vivie was doing her solo performance, she took her outfit inspiration from saiki k and j-stays realised it so they started chanting it at they end of the performance and now j-stay call her saiki's wife (han did get a teensy weensy bit jealous)

during her solo stage, it started raining paper money with the face of vivie as the front cover, it was blue and cinnamon roll themed.

vivie managed to stumble on the moving stage but she landed in the kazuhua unforgiven crawl pose so she just gave up, did the kazuhua hair flip and continued to dance unforgiven.

when the minbin kiss happened, she yelled into the crowd saying "that will be me and jisung next" - she still holds the title of 'queen of delulu'

I have two weeks off and I have no clue what to do with my time

[ june’s room in the dorms ]

june is in the 3racha dorm along with hyunjin. stays often wonder how the two fish got stuck with 3racha but both of them are night owls so it works well. 

june got one of the smaller rooms, but she actually prefers it that way. it forces her to be tidier rather than letting her mess take over. 

stays have gotten to see a lot of her room as she likes to do study lives in there. most of the time she’ll set up her phone on her desk and sit in her chair while she writes, or plays some soft music, answering questions every once in a while.

june has a small desk in the corner, often covered with notebooks, books, her laptop, and her small, portable keyboard. it has become more of a storage place as she often will move to do her work sitting on her bed. it’s a bad habit but she can’t break it. bed is just too comfy.

most of june’s walls are covered in random posters, clippings, papers, etc. she likes to tape up any memorabilia to her wall so she can always see it and remember it. some are of her favorite movies, quotes she likes, pictures with her family, and of course, pictures with skz.

june is a known InSomnia. She looks up to the group a lot and their lightstick is her prized possession. she has a section of her book shelf dedicated to their albums and merch she has bought. 

[ her instruments ]

june owns three instruments currently, a small, portable, electric keyboard, her trumpet, and an acoustic guitar. she doesn’t play the trumpet as much as she used to but still likes having it. playing instruments is a self soothing thing for her, and when she gets too overwhelmed likes to focus on playing a song until she feels like she’s played in perfectly. she also likes to play covers of stray kids songs on her lives for stays.

— her gaze when performing better is so crazy, she literally made one of the dancers blush bcs of it

— everyone loooooved bounce back

— now act 3 was fun!

— in case you were wondering, she’s still eating dried fruit from seohyun

— she remixed sweet fantasy and you make me happy to have them sound like hula music and had hula dancers with her

— this outfit had everyone fighting to stay respectful

— those first three songs of act will ALWAYS EAT

— and of course we had secret love song

— she might have teared up a little bit when she heard everyone singing along (especially bcs her parents were in the audience)

— before she sang in the bed, she gave background on the song

— “this next song was inspired by my parents’ marriage. they have a very simple, easy, calm marriage, and my dad asked me to write a song for their anniversary in 2016, so i did. like their relationship, this song is pretty relaxed, but still intimate. i hope you enjoy”

— her parents were briefly shown on screen during the song
