What are your thoughts on Rhaegar? I tried to like him since all my fellow Arya stans love him. Maybe if he wasn't married to Elia I would have liked him but I can't forget he did nothing to save his wife and children
I could not care less about Rhaegar beyond the role he plays in our main character's stories. I'll reblog posts that frame him in a more positive light if the posts are Jonrya focused, because Jonrya is my focus. I'll reblog posts that frame him in a negative light for the same reason. I think people who are obsessed with him either as stans or antis have a right to do so, but he doesn't interest me beyond that.
I think Jon and Arya, and Dany, Bran, and Tyrion, for that matter, are interesting in their own right and way too many fans just want to reduce them to reflections of the previous generation, rather than accepting that the previous generation are instead the current generation's shadows. I've even seen people claiming that the actual main characters are mere windows into the dead ones, which doesn't resonate with me at all.
But then, I also don't think people are all that invested in Rhaegar, or Lyanna, or Elia, or any of our dead progenitors, for the actual canon content. I think they're interested for the same reason that the Marauder era is so popular w HP fans - it's blank enough for fans to radically project on, while retaining strong imagery that can unite their fantasies. Transformative fandom is fine, but this doesn't appeal to me personally.
I will say that it's very easy to romanticize characters like Rhaegar and villify characters like Ned, for the same reason that it's easy to make excuses for deadbeats and absentees, and criticize the parent who sticks around, lmao. If liking Rhaegar means hating Ned, I definitely don't. Ned's not beyond reproach - none of the characters are and that's the entire point - but he's not the terrible, foolish failure some people like to paint him as.
I fully expect to lose some followers for this - frankly, some of them should unfollow me! I get it - if the reason you're here is you like Rhaegar and Lyanna, if you only care about Jonrya because of them, or if you multiship Jon but hate Gendrya with a passion, this probably isn't the place for you. And if you hate Rhaegar likewise - I try only to make content for what I care about, and for what interests me.

2, 10 and 22!!!!
2. Are there any popular fandom OTPs you only BroTP?
not anymore lmao 😂 some time ago i would say jonrya but now? hell no, jonrya SLAPS, i adore them, i'm obsessed w them, who does it like them!!! so my brotps ran out here lol, i'm very indifferent towards the majority of ships anyway
10. Most disliked arc? Why?
may i just name the most disliked book? affc 😭 only arya's chapters kept me alive, i'm so uninterested in the rest of them lol. ofc when i was reading for the first time other povs entertained me well enough, esp cersei's, but during rereads? literally a trial tbh.
22. Popular character you hate?
in all honesty, it seems i don't have this in me to hate fictional characters. like really genuinely hate. if they're a well-written villains/antagonists, i can posses a wish to kick them for some time lol but get over it quite quickly and can appreciate them as well-written characters they are. if the issue is w the narrative itself, i take this where it belongs - to the author, the very real human being behind smth that enraged me so much lol. getting mad at their creation instead is quite stupid and unproductive, imo. also i get much more annoyed at real ppl woobifying such scumbags as robert baratheon or tywin lannister that are clearly written as wrong and unlikeable but who get whitewashed and treated as some funny/poor/misunderstood/whatever guys for some fucking dumb reason.
honorary mention goes to such characters like sansa stark or elia martell. istg i wouldn't have any problems w them if not for these weird cults built around their names. i try so hard to disconnect the characters from their unhinged fanbases but tbh their fanatics' attitude really managed to kill any interest in them and the very wish to touch anything related to them. so yeah i don't hate them but have started to avoid them simply bc of these ppl. almost the same can be said abt jaime lannister whose character i used to enjoy more in the past but whose stans kinda killed this in me lmao
play with me in the salty ask game!
