A time for me to vent.
I find it fascinating just how much and how Many people their are who are determined to slander, insult and otherwise shit on vivi and her work. Like ok if it was just a few people making a fuss then yeah ok every piece of media has it's fair share of critics but every time I try and open up YouTube I am met with dozens upon dozens of videos endlessly regurgitating the same empty and bland criticisms about vivis work and calling her a bad person and I'm like 'huh?'
At first I though she had genuinely done something wrong but no she was really wanted to keep her passion project alive and needed to shift money around and people where getting unreasonably upset at her for it.
And every year I just saw more and more videos declaring that vivi was an awful person and a racist and a sexist and basically every bad thing under the sun!! And it got me thinking what on earth could possibly inspire so much hate towards someone whose greatest flaw is being a bit sensitive and not always the best at exploring her ideas and have people creating entire communities dedicated to bashing her!?!?!
I think that the part of the issue is that vivi is what every young artist wanted to be. Able to have an entire animation studio of her own and having a whole team dedicated to bringing her silly little demon ocs to life. And that's another thing!

Ps btw etc, I'm not "shielding behind other Emma 2020 fans" (what does that even mean? if I'm the only fan in the Austen fandom you had trouble with, btw, you must be either lucky, or you like the popular "right adaptations", or never posted in Austen fangroups where people legit use the "a real fan cannot like this" arguments on almost daily basis). I'm not the only one who noticed a pattern here and is a bit annoyed by it, nor I'm the only one getting accused of being a bully because I react to people's negative/competition posts in the tags. Posts like this , for instance, are directing their attack to Emma 2020 fans in general by accusing them of doing what honestly Emma 2009 fans do, hyperboles aside (ditto for the pride and prejudice fandom where it's more the fans of the series who trash the 2005 version ) . Seeing posts like that one I linked, it's not so surprising few people are vocal like me given the fact that fans are easily accused of being bullies if they react to/disagree with negative posts, and even the mere act of appreciating the movie making positive content about it is perceived by some as us automatically saying other adaptations are inferior. I mean, even in your reply you are trying to equate posts that just appreciate the 2020 movie to people like op who make a comparison between specific adaptations to paint one as better. One should understand or see the difference and why negative/comparison/competition posts are more controversial and bait a response among fans if the thing you are criticizing to pimp another. You make it seems no one is gatekeeping in people's positive posts or disagreeing with drama free ones but it's not true..there are plenty derailed by fans of the 2009 version or, to a much lesser extent, others. Recent example here: op was just liking the movie they just watched. Using your logic, you'd tell that person that maybe they could've made their own post instead of trying to derail that one. I saw someone making a "long ass" post against the 2020 movie even in a gifset of Emma 2009 that clearly wasn't made with such a purpose...double rude too because the maker likes both versions. I myself got some hate in my gifsets and I disabled messages because I was tired of getting told by anons that I should make gifsets about 2009 instead. You don't tell me there is no gatekeeping and people making it a competition when I see it and experienced it all the time.
Honestly, you should own your own bias here for I'm not seeing you lecturing your fellow Emma 2009 fans about fandom etiquette too. I maintain you wouldn't even come in op's defense here (for what? Still waiting to know where I lied about them making many comparison posts that may come across as making it a competition between two adaptations specifically) if they weren't an emma 2009 fan like you, and I didn't hit a nerve by pointing up a flaw in the 2009 version. If mine was a trap to emphasize how defensive Emma 2009 fans also get when the target is their fav thing, you surely fell into it (but it wasn't, I just really wanted to point up I have different priorities and minor characters are less important for me if the protagonist isn't accurate. Still trying to understand, btw, why I should have more issues with 2020 Mr Knightley than 2009 Mr K and others, and how it relates to what I said about Emma in 2009. George had always been a likable character to begin with and 2020 does preserve his conflict and critic role regardless them making the fact he's in love more obvious to show his pov)
The different approach Emma 2009 and Emma 2020 are taking on the marriage of Emmas sister/Knightley brother still blows me away
In Emma 2020 they are so deeply unhappy and literal hate each other, in Emma 2009 they have their problems but then in the finale scene hug each other and grin like idioits
Emma 2020… WHY?!
