starter for @norasinclair
location: downtown kismet harbor, food trucks
"So, what, Noah comes home and I'm chopped liver?" Eli joked with Nora, leading them to the rather lengthy line at food truck that she had requested. "Kidding of course," he felt the need to clarify, in case anyone might have misunderstood around them - if they knew any of them. "I've been a bad friend, too. Getting the shop set up for Isla was a hell of an adventure, but it's already doing so well." Eli continued to explain, the bright smile o his face indicating that he was proud of the woman that he called his girlfriend. "How are things at home? The pictures of Ines are always appreciated, she's growing like a weed."

“ — So what’s next in your wheelhouse, Bradford ? A little Bowie ? Maybe some Prince ? Or Madonna ? She hasn't been cancelled yet, right ? ” Nora asked, quirking her brow as she tucked the bright, fuchsia-coloured umbrella from her virgin margarita behind her ear while the last couple stumbled drunkenly off the little stage at the farthest end of the bar, after a surprisingly touching & emotional rendition of ‘ You Oughta Know ’. Unlike the other evenings she had spent outside of the hospital in recent months, the temptation to run home, curl up under the covers with her favourite book ( & into the arms of her very handsome husband ) wasn’t anywhere to be found. Instead, she was almost giddy with excitement and quite ready to kick karaoke's proverbial ‘ass’ alongside the other half of Kismet's self-proclaimed karaoke royalty.

closed starter for @norasinclair at kismet harbor hospital
Aliye was nothing if not grateful for the people around her that often helped her along the way and the staff at the hospital was usually right at the top of her list. She never meant to get herself into any trouble, but trouble had a way of finding her. After a close call with a buzz saw a few days prior that had, thankfully, not resulted in any permanent damage, Aliye had made it a point to stop back by at the emergency room to deliver a box of baked goods as a thank you. Popping her head in, her lips curled into a bright smile when she saw that it was a relatively slow day and that Nora was seemingly starting to end her day. "I had a feeling it was my lucky day and here I am, my favorite nurse in the world," she chirped, shooting a grin Nora's way as she held up the box of snacks. "I brought some thank you muffins for fixing me up the other day. I won't be mad if you want to grab them and take them all home for yourself."

"Haven said she'd be here soon. I take it she's with your husband?" Most likely pulling some shenanigans while him and Nora were looking after Ines, Lake walking ahead of them. Walking by the stalls was always a favourite pastime of his during events such as these. And he was glad that Kismet Harbor was sober enough to leave him be. "How are your studies going? I understood you're back in medical school?" @norasinclair

BIOGRAPHY.
Bernadette Beauchamp had never been good with handling loneliness. She hadn't asked for much in life. Just enough to have her life contently. A husband. A child. A white picket fence. Though fate had different plans for the young woman, who'd had her first son at the age of twenty, with a man who would not live long enough to see his son grow up. Living in Chicago, she raised her oldest son by herself, tried to offer her boy everything she could, though her loneliness still reigned her heart and made her search for love in all the wrong places. Stumbling from one relationship to the next, she settled for things she did not deserve. Mistreatment and toxic behavior were her life for the following years to come. This all seemed to change however, once she'd met Isaac Bradford. He seemed different than all the others. He was loving and attentive, caring and willing to provide for her and her son. Four years after meeting, they welcomed their first and only child together - Samuel.
Sam was a bright child, inquisitive and sweet and his world consisted of daydreams and adventures. He was especially close to his father, who taught him to appreciate music and art. So, the family of four lived in Chicago and Bernadette's dream seemed to come true, until Isaac, ten years after Sam was born, ended their relationship without much of a warning or an explanation. Moving not just into a different city but a different state entirely, Sam got to see his father every once in a while. Though as the years passed the letters and visits became less and less, until Isaac's efforts had come to an end completely.
Now only a family of three, Sam's brother stepped in, supported their mother and aided her in raising the young boy, who, ever since his dad had left, had gotten more fussy, more disobedient. His brother was the only one who could manage to talk sense into Sam, when he started lashing out, though as Sam had reached his teenage years, not even his brother could get through to him, most times. In the meanwhile, his mother had not learned from her mistakes, stumbling from relationship to relationship. Sam had forsaken any true endeavors to build any relationship with the men his mother had dated. Barely bothering to remember their names, as he knew they would not stay around for long. And still, it didn't keep him, as well as his brother, from needing to step in, when first signs of abuse in the relationships arose. And still, Sam was always the shoulder for his mother to cry on.
Sam had paid quite a few visits to the juvenile detention center during his adolescence, always for minor charges. This, as well as being expelled from two different schools for repeated misdemeanor, Sam only finished High School at age 20. Working various different jobs afterward, he moved out. Living in a small apartment, Sam spent his spare time partying. Drugs and alcohol flowed freely and although he was never truly addicted, these substances aided him in coping with everything. The hatred aimed toward his father. The hatred aimed toward the men his mother brought home. The helplessness, when seeing his mother so lost and torn.
It was a usual night, a usual party Sam, now in his mid-twenties, went to with a couple of his friend. The booze was flowing and substances were running high in their systems, though his best friend seemed to have overdone it. As Sam tried to aid him on his way home, his best friend collapsed. Trying his best to keep his best friend awake and alive, he called for an ambulance, though the medics could only determine his best friend's death. Sam refused to be taken to the hospital, chose to wander Chicago's streets instead, until the sun had already risen. It was mere hours after the incident, mere hours in which he hadn't managed to even begin processing what had happened, when he received a phone call by his mother. A rustle on her end of the line was subsequently followed by a loud thud and a scream. Instead of calling for police, Sam took care of the situation himself. His mother's black eye was nothing compared to the injuries he'd caused her current boyfriend. Injuries severe enough for him to be sentenced for four years in jail for aggravated assault. Four years, of which he'd served all.
Upon his release, Sam realized that the tides had shifted and life would never be the same again. His mother had grown distant, shocked to have witnessed what her youngest boy was capable of. Friends had turned their backs to him, for their lifestyles were no longer compatible with his. No longer compatible with the one of an ex convict. The only one who had Sam's back (as always) was his older brother, who suggested Sam leave Chicago. Move to a different place. A quieter place, so he might stay out of trouble. A new beginning.
Living in a Downtown apartment for three years, Sam began working as a mechanic at Extra Mile Mechanics, though has reduced his hours to a part-time position since being promoted to a club promoter and DJ at High Pulse. He still drowns his sorrow in substances and parties. In making music and working out. Trying to stay out of trouble proves to be difficult for Sam, as his abrasive and impulsive demeanor oftentimes get the better of him. Act and speak first, think second. To family and friends, Sam is fiercely loyal and would stop at nothing to ensure their happiness and safety, making others a priority. There are only few things Sam genuinely cares about, which reflects in his behavior. Love him or hate him - there are only few who fall in between.

BIOGRAPHY
trigger warning: injury, war, death.
Noah was born on a rainy evening, welcomed by the loving arms of his parents: Nicholas and Marie Sinclair. The pair had been married for a mere month when they welcomed their son who at a later age would learn that Nicholas wasn't his father by blood. It was strange knowledge to have a process, but it changed little, for Nicholas had always been there for his children, and treated Noah the same as the children he would later father with Marie. Noah never went out of his way to search out his biological father either, never having had the urge to know where he came from.
Noah's childhood was great, for as long as it lasted. Growing up in Boston, he always had something to do with his time. He was a choir kid until the age of fifteen, dropping out for reasons unknown but never stopped going to church on Sundays. Noah also played baseball since junior high and started basketball after dropping out of the choir. It was through the sport teams that he grew closer with Connor Bowen, who was quickly to become his best friend.
Through his school years, he had always been seen as one of the brighter students. Straight A's and following an advanced biology and science program. Noah had always shown interest in becoming a doctor or a surgeon and had his life plan mapped out for the most of his school years. He was going to go to Stanford and get a scholarship to do it through baseball. Noah had to grow up quickly however when his baby brother Johnny got sick. He always had been, then it would go better and then they'd be at square one ago. But this one time it felt different. His parents were away more often with Johnny, often times where his father would come back without his mother and Johnny, stay the night and return with a bag of fresh clothing.
It came to Noah and Mallory to run the household. Making sure the chores were done and Haven was taken care of. Neither objected, neither complained. Noah also made sure Mallory got to go to her friends and have fun, as long as she checked in with him ever so often so he'd know she was okay. He stayed home for Haven. His grades lowered to B's and the occasional C here and there, he was too tired to be at the top of his game with baseball or basketball and the scholar ship was a dream at that point. He was seventeen when Johnny passed and everything changed. He dropped out of the teams and focused on getting his grades up.
His parents were surprised when Noah announced he wasn't going to apply for universities and after a sit down with the both of them, as they had been concerned their absence and the medical bills had led him to the decision, he reassured them that it was not. He had simply been inspired by his best friend's father to enlist for the U.S. marines instead and felt like it was the best path for him.
And it was. It opened up a whole new world for him where he felt like he belonged. He enlisted with Connor, yet stayed even when Connor left. He became a dog handler, learning he has an affinity in handling the canines with a deft hand. 'Alpha behaviour' as his T.O. would call it. The marines became his focus, which also failed Noah to maintain a serious relationship as none lasted longer than three months at most. He was certain that if he ever met the one, he would know. It just took him for a wild surprise when it did eventually present itself. He was invited along for a winter ski holiday with Connor and his family when he stayed behind at the lodge with Connor's sister: Nora. He had known her for years yet it took one deep one on one conversation with her for the flutters to start, and a kiss to ignite the storm that was to rage in his chest for years after.
They decided to keep it quiet for a while until they were certain what was happening and what they were to each other. Going on dates, secret weekend getaways and many texts sent to each other when he was on base until they realised that they were in for it for the long haul and broke the news to her family, who welcomed the relationship, even Connor, even if it was quite literally an re-enactment of Ross Gellar.
Theirs was the first relationship in his life that passed the three month period. Years later and he was still just as mad about her as he was when they first started dating. It didn't dwindle when they lost their son, whose loss Nora had kept a secret when he was deployed so he wouldn't be distracted. Returning home without seeing his girlfriend in her third trimester had certainly been a wake-up call and he spent as much time with her in the time that followed after so they could finally heal together.
Noah asked Nora to marry him in the winter of 2018, a month before his next deployment. They were going to get married in the first quarter of 2020, settle down, start a family, be happy. Their future had nearly ended before it started when Noah got injured while on a convoy, losing all but two of his fellow soldiers, nearly having lost his own as he coded a total amount of three times in between when it happened and when he received treatment in the USA. He'd lost a whole week while in a medically induced coma, and spent a whole week after said coma where Noah wasn't able to see. He was preparing himself to a life where he would be blind and though offered his fiancee an out, she decided to stay. Luckily, once the swelling had gone down enough, he regained his sight. After a whole month, he was released.
Deciding their marriage couldn't wait, Noah and Nora got married during a small and intimate wedding in Croatia with their loved ones and moved from their Boston apartment to Kismet Harbor, where both their siblings coincidentally had taken up residence. Noah got to managing his PTSD and physical therapy by that time that he once more, joined Connor and trained at the firefighter academy and joined the Kismet Harbor fire department.
Kismet Harbor had become a beacon to Noah. It became the place where Noah and Nora welcomed their first daughter, Ines and where he found his village of people. For his family, Noah realised he had to get to terms with what had happened to him in the marines and wanted to close his experience there with a positive ending rather than one ending in pain and misery. He accepted a training position at an allied base in Austria for a six month program, knowing that when he'd return he would have changed in life for the better, even if those six months would feel more like six years. Returning to Kismet Harbor as a stay at home father left Noah feeling more relaxed, more at ease, and he faces the future with a new sense of joy in life.

bio
— reggie was born on 11th may 1953 to robert and nanette bowen, and is their only child. when he was seven, he decided he wanted to be known as reginald (or more affectionately, reggie) to be distinguishable from his father. robert was a commanding, intimidating man, who was dedicated and loyal to the us army as well as dedicated and loyal to his wife. nanette was level-headed, generous, and very involved with her community, and was completely devoted to her husband. reggie learned valuable life lessons from the both. he was, however, quite lonely as a child and always wanted an older brother to play with.
— with his father being in the military, reggie moved around as a child: he was born in williamsburg, virginia, and lived there until he was 18 months old; then lived in charleston, south carolina, until he was 5; then in fort wayne, indiana, until he was 10; after that the family moved back to williamsburg permanently. reggie hated the instability and inconsistency. he made friends and then lost them, he hardly saw his father, and hated how lonely his mother seemed, but he was glad he and nanette had each other to rely on.
— despite a rocky start to his educational career, reggie would finish it on a high. he excelled in school and achieved top grades in all of his subjects. he was on the track and field team in high school and spent much of his downtime reading. he had been obsessed with military books from a very young age and had grown up knowing a lot about us military history, with most of the books being the ones his father owned or gifts from his parents. he also loved classic novels like david copperfield by charles dickens, the great gatsby by f. scott fitzgerald, and moby-dick by herman melville. he was also a very popular student, which was a turnaround from being the loner as a child, and dated a few girls during high school.
— as soon as he graduated, reggie enlisted for basic marines training, spending 10 weeks in parris island, south carolina, to complete it. it was tough- both mentally and physically- but his background in track was helpful for stamina, endurance, and strength. he made some good friends there, some one which he remained friends with for decades, and hoped he made his parents (his father in particular) proud.
— he met his future wife emily when she was 20 and he was 25. he was home on leave and was spending the day in the library- his favourite place as a teenager- and found emily sat alone by the window, the sun turning her hair gold, reading the great gatsby. without thinking, he approached her and commented on the book, then discovering it was favourite of them both. they talked for hours and over a short few weeks they fell in love. with emily’s father being a military man too, reggie wanted to impress him and prove he was the right kind of man for emily to marry. it didn’t take long and reggie also wanted to demonstrate to emily that he was loyal and would treat her with kindness and grace. he also proposed to her with a ring his mother had gifted to him for an occasion such as this one.
— not long after their intimate wedding, emily found out she was pregnant and reggie received word he was to be based in north carolina for a while. the move was stressful and a wild rollercoaster with the knowledge they were going to be parents. whilst reggie settled into his new job, emily was left alone for the first time in her life, which she found hard to cope with. at 16 weeks pregnant, she suffered a miscarriage. reggie was there for her as much as he could be, but work made him more distant than he would have liked. the little things mattered: him bringing her comfort right before bed, making her breakfast first thing in the morning, doing the chores, and so on. it was at this point when reggie wondered if staying in the army was the right thing to do and if he should quit, but that was a thought he mainly kept at the back of his mind.
— to make matters even more complicated, reggie was told almost a year later that he’d be based in savannah, georgia- yet another stressful move to a new place filled with new people. luckily, both reggie and emily settled in better in savannah than in north carolina, and a few months later, in november 1980, their son connor was conceived and he was born in july 1981. he was followed by nora in 1987 and bethany in 2002.
— after climbing the ranks to major general and serving in the us marines for 26 years and having built up an impeccable reputation, reggie retired and moved the family to boston, massachusetts, in 1997. it was a city steeped in history and promised good educations for the children as well as many things to do as individuals and as a collective. reggie certainly saw himself staying until the end of his life and saw it as a great place to put down roots after things had been constantly changing for 26 years.
— connor was the first of the family to move to kismet harbour and eventually they all followed, but reggie was adamant about staying in boston. that was home now. nobody could reason or persuade him to move, not even with the expanding family being together in one beautiful town. reggie was, however, proud of all of his children and what they had made with their lives; them living on opposite coasts meant they could all be satisfied rather than happy. it did cause some friction, but reggie had always been so set in his ways and the older he got the less willing he was to compromise and change.
— emily visited reggie back in boston for valentine’s day in february 2024 and pleaded him to return to kismet harbour with her. like every time before, he told her no and she left disappointed. but between then and the present, something changed- either in the back of his mind or in his heart, he wasn’t sure. he longed for his wife and their children and finally felt like he was missing out as they were all moving forward with their lives and he was stagnant. he eventually decided to fly to kismet harbour to surprise emily and is now staying with her in her downtown apartment.

"the trier"
The trier is the character who has always pushed hard to achieve their hopes and dreams, but a series of obstacles has always stood in their way, whether they may be psychological or physical. The trier has often forced themselves to get back up time and time again, but they have grown exhausted with the lack of results in their efforts and have lost hope. Often experiencing addiction or depression, the trier will view their burden as something they must carry alone, and therefore remain trapped in an endless cycle of being bruised and broken by their own efforts.

BIOGRAPHY
Bethany Bowen entered the world in the same dramatic flare she would possess for the rest of her life. A surprise addition to her family, she followed two siblings who were twelve and twenty years older than her. Her siblings sometimes felt like a second set of parents, but Bethany remained close with them.
As an infant, she often found it difficult to sit still. She always wanted to explore, run and scream. Her mother, Emily, nicknamed her ‘Honeybee’, and thus the nickname Bee stuck with her for life.
Life was easy for Bee in the beginning. A doting mother, a firm but caring father and two siblings who taught her to strive for dreams and settle for no less. Yes, there was nothing to complain about. However, everything seemed to change for Bee as she entered education. She found herself being told off for the most ridiculous things. For talking too loudly, for taking the coloring pencils she wanted to use, for eating when she wanted to. She didn’t understand why she wasn’t allowed to live freely. Every time she learned a new rule, another one popped up out of nowhere.
As she got older, Bee realised she was never going to please anyone, so she continued to live her life unapologetically. If someone pushed her, she pushed back twice as hard. If a teacher shouted at her, she shouted back louder. She became school’s worst nightmare. Things only got worse in high school and mixed with the raging hormones of a teenage girl; Bee’s behaviour became unmanageable. After several suspensions, the final straw was when she spraypainted ‘Mr. Bradshaw sucks dick’ on the lockers facing said principal’s office in a fit of rage. After one too many second chances, Bee was officially expelled from the high school.
The last option for her parents was to send her to a correctional boarding school that had been recommended by the principal. The only problem was it was in Ohio. Bee had never spent more than a day away from her family, and both she and her mother fought her father on the decision, but he was adamant that his daughter needed an attitude adjustment. At the age of fifteen, Bee was shipped to Happy Springs All-Girls Catholic Boarding School in Ohio, where she would don a forest-green plaid skirt and blazer, learn Latin, and go to nightly prayer meetings. All her worst nightmares rolled into one.
When she toured the school with her family, it hadn’t seemed so bad. It was big, if not terribly outdated. However, once her parents left, it was almost as if someone had switched the lights out. The teachers became crueler, and the expectations rose higher and higher. Bee found herself being punished for the tiniest of things, and she quickly learned that she was supposed to exist without a personality in the school. The darkest moments came when Bee made – in their eyes – big mistakes, where she was sent to a so-called ‘Reflection Room’ to think over her behavior and pray for redemption. This room was a glorified broom closet, which had no functioning lightbulb and no windows. Bee was forced to stay there for hours upon end, only allowed to come out once she had confirmed that she had asked God for forgiveness.
The worst day was when Bee was working on her Art final, a piece she was proud of. Painting was quickly becoming her form of relaxation, and she was actually good at it. She was putting the finishing touches to it when one of the teachers deliberately poured red paint over it. Bee swore at the teacher and told her to go to hell, and she was promptly taken to the Reflection Room. Instead of staying for hours, she was there for two whole days, with inedible food and a glass of water every few hours. She screamed until her throat was raw and banged on the door until her knuckles bled, but nobody came.
She considered telling her parents the truth when they visited or when she returned home for the holidays. However, they were so proud of the progress she was making, and they were obviously worried about her, she didn’t want them to feel guilty for submitting her to the treatment she was receiving. Besides, the teachers constantly reminded her that her parents would think she was nothing but a liar, desperate to return home.
So, Bee put up with it until she was eighteen, when she graduated from boarding school and was allowed to return home. She ended up going to a community college, where she decided to study towards her Associate’s Degree in Art & Design. She moved out of her family home and rented a place closer to the city with some girls her age. She wanted to focus on her studies, but she found herself often traumatised by memories of school. Her only way to cope, she found, was through drinking alcohol and partying. When she was drunk, it was like someone had turned the emotion switch off in her brain, and she was just able to focus on the moment. She barely attended college, and after two years, she completely flunked out, and was kicked out of yet another institution. She tried to work jobs to continue paying rent, but she was often fired for her tardiness and lack of discipline or quit due to a general disinterest in the job.
At 21, Bee returned home to her family, out of money, a job and an education. She was rapidly declining again, and after receiving a DUI, her father decided that he had had enough. With no school to send her to, he opted for the next best thing: sending Bee to Kismet Harbor, where she could live close to her brother, sister and brother-in-law. As a firefighter and a nurse, they could teach her discipline and help her to finally grow up.
After living in Kismet Harbor for close to a year, Bee can make some changes in her life. With friends, family and even some crushes, she is finally beginning to feel like a normal 22-year-old girl. Still, her past haunts her, and her alcohol dependency is still an issue she is choosing to keep hidden, but for the first time ever: things are looking up.
