The New Arco Arena (1988) KCRA-TV

In this video, we go back to the early days of 1988 with KCRA-TV's Steve LaRosa to marvel at a new building that no longer exists. To some it was the Sleep Train Arena, and for about a year it was known as the Power Balance Pavilion. But for most Sacramento residents, it would always simply be called Arco Arena.

Constructed in 1988 to replace the original arena at 1625 North Market Boulevard (now an office building), the 17,000-seat venue hosted an average of 200 events every year, including sporting events, Sacramento Kings games, concerts and performances of all kinds, graduation ceremonies, and more. However, the arena was never intended to be a long-term facility and by the early 2000s, it lacked amenities found in more modern stadiums, like digital signage, spacious locker rooms, and wide concourses. The NCAA cited that the arena was not adequate for college basketball (let alone the NBA), prompting plans to create a new facility. It officially closed on March 19, 2022, and was demolished from August through September 2022 to make way for the California Northstate University Medical Center campus.

Baltimore

Station North

Station North is a neighborhood in Baltimore that is home to many art galleries, theaters, and restaurants. It's an example of the urban renaissance that is happening in Baltimore. The area has been home to artists since the early 1900s when Charles Village became an artist colony because it was affordable and served as an escape from city life. In 1981, Station North got its name after it was designated as a cultural district by Baltimore City Council.

Station North has a rich history dating back over 200 years when it was first settled by German immigrants who were looking for farmland outside of town along what was then called Stony Run Road (now North Avenue). During World War II many African Americans moved into this area because they wanted better housing than what they could afford elsewhere at the time; however segregation laws prevented them from buying homes outside their race-designated neighborhoods so instead developers built apartment complexes specifically for African Americans like those found today along Charles Street which still exist today under names like Charles Towers Apartments or Charles Manor Apartments (both owned by former Mayor William Donald Schaefer).

National Aquarium in Baltimore

The National Aquarium in Baltimore is, for lack of a better word, amazing. It's free, open every day and there are so many exhibits to see that you could easily spend hours exploring this place with your family or friends.

They have tons of sharks (and other fish) that swim around freely in large tanks so you can watch them swim up close and personal! They also have an exhibit where you can touch starfish and sea urchins which was definitely one of our favorites!
