it's not surprising to me that some people didn't warm up to Mae, but it surprised me that people could dislike her so much. Mae's personality and actions made complete sense even if it was frustrating and hurtful. And because I understood where she was coming from, I couldn't hate her. She lied to Noa again and again even though she was feeling more and more guilty about it because she prioritized duty. She couldn't let her brief time with Noa and Raka undermine a critical mission to help the survival of humans. She chose her safety for her greater mission. (My favorite line was when she said she was taught silence for safety.) It was painful to watch, but also sad because it was obvious that she was having second thoughts, she was hesitating, she was growing attached. But her attachments mean nothing when the human race was relying on her. That weight and burden were immense. Because we follow Noa's journey and have seen what he lost, we empathize with him more. We can only imagine what Mae has gone through, but just the few hints we've gotten is enough to know she has endured much.

there seems to be far too many fans who can't seem to wrap their head around the fact that no relationship in the Vampire Chronicles is healthy. every relationship includes an element of abuse/power imbalance by normal standards. literally every single one.
they are all monsters who are no longer constrained by societal rules. so I don't think it's too crazy to expect them to do mosntorus things. the genre is Gothic HORROR. the show really prioritizes the HORROR element more so than other adaptaions, which i love.
i don't need louis to be a liar to enjoy lestat. if louis lied or misremebered things about the fight in episode 5, i literally do not care because it's never gonna make me hate louis. the baseline of what constitutes "evil" or "bad" is so different in iwtv because of the fact that they are NOT HUMAN. Claudia is literally a serial killer and she's still mother to me. ykwim?
the nature of vampirism is they have to kill to survive. so it would be really cool if people could accept louis, armand, and claudia as complex characters who are fundamentally not good people (because they aren't people!) without being racist about it. THEY ARE ALL KILLERS
im more interested in this exploration of the complexities of memory and seeing how the show integrates the other books into this story in a way that hasn't been done before than I am in discoursing about whether louis is a liar or not. who gives a shit???? grow up and realize that there are no good guys here and that's OKAY

city driving and country driving are such separate skill sets. same with suburbs, though i feel like they have enough signage that anyone can usually make it through okay. country driving is like all open road until it's dark and the city folk get scared that no houses or visible people around and they can't see past their headlights and then blind everyone they come across with their highbeams even though it's a bright night. country folk get scared in the city because everything is so close together and there's so many pedestrians that they could hit and everyone drives like super fucking aggressively and they are not afraid to hit you out of their own sense of pride. no point to this post, i was just thinking about how yesterday my mom and i brought a friend to a thing and when we were driving my friend home, my mom almost had a panic attack driving in urban north jersey because it was so different from our little jersey hick village that she's lived in her whole life. i drove home and she had a hand on the oh shit bar the whole time even though i know how to drive in cities.

sometimes you do have to remember that kh is a videogame designed to be played first and foremost. so many 'odd' seeming decisions make a lot more sense when you take this into consideration. that and just the realities of game dev and having a budget and resource constraints lol
like do people know that the biggest reasons for worlds to be included or excluded from a game has nothing to do with its story or disney or popularity and often just has to do with the game environment/setting being different enough from the other worlds they've chosen lol.
like this is why jungle book keeps getting cut, because they pick other (better) worlds with jungle environments over it every time for the final roster, as an example.

Bolts upright from my bed
In an AU where Pharma lives the Adaptus thing and comes back on the Lost Light, wouldn't he find out that the crew had to deal with being cornered and nearly killed by the DJD and a bunch of other Decepticons?
And then Pharma could get to be like "oh I see :) you were under threat by the DJD :))) why didn't you just run? Oh you couldn't and had no means of escape? Funny :)))) didn't you call for help? Oh you did right??? And did anyone come???? :)))))) did anyone come in time to save you from the DJD????? DID THEY????? DID YOU JUST CALL FOR HELP AND RUN AWAY AND THE DJD JUST LET YOU GO????? :))))))))))) OH THE DJD BLOCKED COMMUNICATIONS AND HAD YOU SURROUNDED????? OH HOW TRAGIC I GUESS YOU COULDN'T ESCAPE AFTER ALL AND A LOT OF YOUR FRIENDS DIED :)))))))))))))))) AND THE ONLY REASON YOU WON WAS BECAUSE YOU HAD A LOT OF SUPERPOWERFUL FIGHTERS ON YOUR SIDE???? WOW IMAGINE WHAT MIGHT'VE HAPPENED IF YOU HAD NO FRIENDS AND BARELY ANY MILITARY SUPPORT AND THE DJD CAME HUH??? WOW WHAT A RELIEF THAT DIDNT HAPPEN"
-
In other words, I'm pretty much convinced that the reason Pharma is remembered as "the evil cowardly doctor that murdered innocents to save his own skin" instead of "the Autobot that got mindbroken by Tarn into thinking that making a plague and killing everyone was his only way to escape" is because he got introduced before the DJD were established as a pants-shittingly evil and sadistic group of freaks, and unlike Rodimus' crew he didn't have the luxury of being a main character whose thoughts and experiences were shown on screen. Pretty much his reputation as "crazy token evil Autobot" was sealed from MTMTE #5 and by the time MTMTE #50-something brought Dying of the Light, Pharma was a footnote in the story and never got to have this new information about the terror of the DJD factored into his own character.

Imagine Erika, a girl with no clear plans or ambitions after school, being transported to a fantasy world. She likes the place, makes new friends, but still wants to go home. They don't want to send her back, so they erase her existence from the minds of everyone she ever knew so she wouldn't have a place to return to or people waiting for her. She moves on with her new life only to find out several years later that someone still remembers her. Her father, a businessman who was always too busy to spend time with her, still knows who she is and kept looking for her. And in his pursuit, he ended up involved in a shady organization, turned crazy with greed and ended up kidnapping and torturing innocents, hurting her and her loved ones, and ultimately contributing to the destruction of the world that had become her new home. Of all the people in her life, why it had to be HIM the one who didn't forget her?

The Shuttle AU where Nigel Anstruthers is even more devious and DOESN'T separate Rosalie from her family, and he pretends to be nice and good and even invites Bettina to spend her school holidays at Stornham Court one year.
(That last one was not his best idea, tbh.)
Through chance, circumstance, or maybe the weaving hand of Fate, Bettina Vanderpoel and James Hubert John Fergus Saltyre meet, speak, and quickly discover their mutual distaste for Sir Nigel Anstruthers...
Anyway I call this one Jem and Bett Ruin Nigel's Life (Ten Years Ahead of Schedule)

I do think Withers has a really subtle background character arc in bg3. Because at the start it is really clear he doesn't want to be here and he's being forced to clean up his mess by Helm and probably Ao. He doesn't really care either. Everything ends so nothing really matters, he'd like to go back to his paperwork now please.
Except he's stuck babysitting a bunch of traumatized dumbasses as they stumble into dealing with the most recent bad idea of his three fuck-up disappointments. So he brings them back when they die for a pittance, lets them pay for some vengeful ghosts to come back as flesh and blood to wreak bloody vengeance on the Absolute, and starts to... comment, on what's going on, as he follows them on their adventure.
Next thing you know Withers is like, doing things unprompted. He refuses to bring back Alfira (or Quil) but that's an act of compassion, keeping the poor girl from the Urge and letting her rest, his actual duty as a god of death. He tells Arabella to follow her destiny and does that thing to make her grief go away which honestly freaks me out but seems to be him trying to help her. He shows up at Moonrise and prompts us to consider why the Dead Three would want a bunch of soulless illithids that would give them no power, getting us to think of the big picture.
And by the end (especially if you do a resist!Durge playthrough) Withers is actively interfering and seems genuinely invested! He brings Durge back from the dead, free of their father! He encourages us before the final fight with the Netherbrain! He's real fucking smug that the Dead Three lost when he never seemed to care about the destruction they caused before! He throws a reunion party and many of his lines are genuinely touching or kind! Especially if a companion died permanently! He has tea with Gale's mom and Tara! He's like, socializing and shit! Yes, everything is temporary and we all die, but there's great beauty in fighting for that precious time and living it to the fullest!
Basically Wither's character arc is this meme, all because Helm made him go outside and touch grass.

RANDOM THOUGHT but
What if, after Cosmic Fury, when Amelia gets together with Javi, she's skeptical that he'll also turn evil and be taken away from her and try to kill her?? Because so far, her experience has been horrible, everyone she loves becomes eViL and tries to kill her... she doesn't want that to happen with Javi too.
"I'd not be able to live with myself if something happened to you too..."
And Javi just thinks she's being paranoid, simply because, "Pop Pop never turned evil, now, did he? and I think you love him more than any person in the entire universe"
Javi's smile and his reassurances always soothe her down. He's the only one who makes her believe, even if its for a little time until she starts overthinking, that she's not "Cursed to bring doom to everyone she loves"

i need a little notes section to be added to all block list functions in social media bc my goldfish memory having ass don't always remember why i blocked someone
see i looove blocking ppl and curating my online experience with wild abandon, but that means it can be anything from 'this person is a fucking terf' to 'this person is harmless but has annoying opinions about fictional characters i like' to 'this person once said mango was disgusting and i took it personally'
so now tumblr or whatever is telling me i have a mf blocked and i gotta sit there and wonder if they're a bigot or just have bad opinions on cheesecake
