Agghh here's a writing idea I need to share now: main protag pairing basically have a terminal condition and the time finally comes (too soon ofc). Char A calls out Char B's name and doesn't say anything after. Char B realizes that it's because that Char A wants B to be the last thing they want to see. And B heard the barely masked fear in A's voice so B smiles to be reassuring right until A closes their eyes.
