he’ll regret it when he shifts again, but for now his body feels so heavy and so tired and so ready for sleepy that he just closes his eyes and lets the darkness envelop his sight, the feeling of the harsh fluorescent light seeping in through the cracked windows as the wind shifts the curtains and lets the street lamps invade with their buzzing and color in the otherwise dark world

stuffed animals are strewn haphazardly everywhere - they go to sleep neatly beside him and he’s always sure that’s where they stay until he sleeps, and then, his imagination says, they go on adventures - to lands far beyond his reach and he hopes that they come back with fun stories to tell one another

doyoung told him once that it was childish to think that way and kun was quick to silence him but, lucas, in this half-asleep state, doesn’t really care what other people think, and really just hopes that sleep will find him as quickly as it found kun, who breathes softly in the gentle air of the dorm

it smells faintly of cleaner in the dorm and he wonders if someone came to clean today - his brain wonders what day it is and if it was time again, but he quickly relinquishes that to another second, another minute, another day, just another time

large, sweeping moves as he adjusts himself and, ah, right, there’s all the blood rushing back from his hands and feet as he stares at the wall and wonders if counting sheep will help

swagger or a giant teddy bear? you decide! honestly the duality of na jaemin is a fascinating thing but also you're pretty sure he has a collection of mini finger skateboards and i'm not saying that i approve but i also don't disapprove doesn't allow you to call him nana and you were confused about that for the longest time until he looked you dead in the eyes, put his hands on your shoulders, and said "i want a different nickname from you. literally anything else but nana. that doesn't feel special. personal. i want you to come up with it from the bottom of your heart" "corny. how about st -" "please have it be affectionate" "okay" really just wants your affection please give him all your love that's literally all he wants both of you baby and tease jisung but jisung only accepts it from you and it breaks jaemin's poor lil heart and he says that you and jisung can't hang out anymore because he should be the only person who gets to baby jisung and far away in the 127 dorms taeyong feels a disturbance in the force and of course jaemin is joking - he's ecstatic that you also love jisung and the rest of nct dream and that you all get along but also also jaemin wants your love to himself and yes that's corny he's that corny he loves you that much screams about how much he loves you in the practice room at 3am and jeno takes videos of him to send to you with the caption "make your boyfriend shut up thanks" and then turns to jaemin and says "the fact that they're still with you is a miracle with the way you act" and sends jaemin off into another tangent about how lucky he is to get to love you and jeno stares into the mirror like he’s on camera you message jeno back the next morning when you get up "where was chenle i literally sent him a video of me saying i love you jaemin about a thousand times to show him when he gets like this" jeno: "chenle loves chaos" you: "me too" and literally all of dream loves to clown jaemin about how he's absolutely, positively, head over heels for you - holding your hand at any possible moment, leaning his head against your shoulder, bringing you a rose from the flower shop down the road from your favorite restaurant - but also you handle it well and they’re happy to see jaemin that happy, smiling brightly and talking animatedly about the gifts you surprised him with over dinner the other day and you and jaemin have great chemistry together you keep one another in line and as goofy as jaemin is, he has his serious moments when he settles down and isn't yelling about how much he loves you and you two have serious conversations - you're children but also very serious when it comes down to it but he likes keeping everything upbeat and fun and energetic because he loves having stories to tell and memories to think about later on and a part of him is afraid that it won't last forever - it's a small fear that's been in the back of his mind since his back injury... that nothing really lasts forever and you need to make the most of everything, make tons of memories so you'll have them in the future and you just need to hold his hand in those moments where he gets overwhelmed and remind him that living in the present is a good idea, too, and whatever comes you two will handle together as needed like you always do and jaemin is so, so, so, so, so grateful for you - you've become his anchor and confidant and just everything he could've asked for in a significant other and more jaemin is heart emojis; valentine's day; neon signs; sneaking onto the highschool roof after hours; sunrise after a thunderstorm

his speciality is making birthday cakes!!

jaemin is still very much so a child at heart and so he understands very well what the kids want for their birthday cake

his cakes are bright and happy and loud - fun with bold colors and brazen designs and every bit as much a part of jaemin as the bakery is a part of him

and sure his cakes aren’t as large and ornate and extravagant as the popular wedding cake baker jungwoo, but they’re delicious and popular with children

is rarely up by the front where haechan is making the coffee and chenle is ringing people up and jisung is to take deliveries, but when he is, his smile brightens the very atmosphere of the quaint bakery that is very popular with locals and has become a tourist attraction

one of his favorite things to do for his birthday cakes is put on the finishing touches for the kids when they come to pick it up, or he’ll go with jisung for the deliveries and do it at the party

part of it is to assure that the cake appears how the parent and child want it to, but another part of him does it to flaunt his icing skills

recently has been getting many requests for the pull-apart cupcake cakes and at first he was like whaT IS WRONG WITH WHOLE CAKES? WHAT DID I DO WRONG? but eventually came to really enjoy the concept of the pull-apart cupcake cakes and the fun he can have with them - especially the fun in designing the cupcakes to make animal shapes

his favorite recent commission was the unicorn he got to make, with the cupcakes filled with candies - it was fun to make and fun to put together and the kids all loved it

also enjoys making other baked goods, but he honestly is best at making cakes and the fun and creativity and excitement of decorating birthday cakes is what makes it his favorite thing

it matches his personality nicely, but also it’s something he’s always had a passion for, even when other people said it was childish and useless because jaemin has never really been one to care what other people think, moving to his own rhythm no matter his surroundings

his cakes are a lot like sunny days: friendly and inviting and bright. vivid and perfect for making memories. bright smiles and sunflowers. his good looks a plus, but it’s his ability to understand the customers that convinces them to continue as patrons of the bakery.

doyoung before bed likes to scroll through his phone, meandering through social media and reading anything and everything - what beyoncé is doing across the world, about lucas’s solo photoshoot, about mark’s appearance on it’s dangerous beyond the blankets... really, even though his eyelids feel heavy and his brain is really only absorbing every other word, this nightly ritual puts his body at ease, the soft glow of his phone casting a fuzzy shadow behind him

he wonders what exactly he has to do tomorrow, his brain struggling to bring forward what his manager reminded him of and what the calendar on his phone says; for now he’ll stay in ignorant bliss and continue to meander through the wide expansive internet for something to help him sleep

his mind wanders a bit as he tries to read this article about the stock market - how did he get here in the first place? - about that new game that jeno told him about earlier that he downloaded because if jeno says it’s good then doyoung is sure he would like it too and he opens it until without a second thought, the stock market long forgotten as the loading screen for the game flashes at him aggressively

the occasional sound of cars passing by is comforting to doyoung, but also a reminder that time is passing and maybe sleep would be the best next step, but there’s one more level he wants to beat, and there are still more web pages to look at, and... looking at the ceiling for a moment, his screen goes to sleep and he figures maybe it’s his turn

his breathing slows and he feels his body sink into the bed and he thinks that maybe he should plug his phone in before he goes to bed, but as his eyes close he thinks to himself that he’s better off asleep

"what will it take for me to get you to stop calling me that" "buy dinner for the next month" "hello, my name is mr. 'the future of sm'" oh, you thought chenle was babied? think again! name a member and they probably baby jisung! taeyong? yup! kun? yup! haechan? yup! jaemin? yup! and yeah sure sometimes haechan and jeno and renjun and chenle also sometimes want to fight jisung but don't all families have a little dysfunction in them? and yeah maybe jisung could stop clowning them but what's the fun in that? the answer is none there's nothing fun about not causing problems and yeah jisung definitely uses being the youngest to his advantage sometimes - "can i! have some! i love jellies!" "of course you can jisung!" "what about me?" "don't you have your own money doyoung?" - but overall he tries his hardest to project a mature image and sometimes you're kind of like "hey it's okay? why grow up?" jisung is still growing up and everyone knows that and acknowledges it and they see his acting as an adult is just a way for him to get them to stop babying him, but it's really because he feels that pressure, a lot like chenle, to grow up and be someone he's not already in his young life so on days that he has off, you bring his favorite take out, favorite candies, and favorite games and movies, and you two just let yourselves act your age those moments and have a blast jisung loves beating you in mario kart but you have your own competitive streak and often times jaemin and renjun and chenle and haechan will  join you guys while jeno watches and it ends up becoming a huge mess and there's a lot of shouting and mark will pop his head in and be like are you all? okay? renjun, from the back "DO WE LOOK LIKE WE'RE OKAY MARK" haechan, throwing his controller "IT ISN'T MONOPOLY OR UNO THAT RUINS FRIENDSHIPS. IT'S MARIO KART" mark "oh hey i. gotta go it was good seeing y'all bye" and yeah those moments are definitely hectic and a lot for people to handle and mark jokes about leaving and definitely joins in, but they're good for jisung because it's bonding and it's relaxing and maybe you all leave a little bitter at renjun for throwing shells at all of you so he could come in first on rainbow road, but you all come out better for it jisung would never admit it but he wishes that those kind of moments would last forever - where their lives are on pause and they can just have fun and play games do things that they feel like they've missed out on and he would never say but you can read him like a newspaper so you message the other dreamies and mark and ask when's the next time everyone is free? when it's only you free and jisung has practice, you'll stop by even if it's not just him with some energy drinks and snack bars because everyone needs a little pick me up even if they're used to such stressful schedules don't get jisung wrong he's always thankful for you but the moments where you wake up at 3am to text him back because he sent you about two hundred messages in fifteen minutes about how frustrated and confused and concerned he is about the future and what he's doing and is this the right thing for him? are moments when he's really thankful for you and everything you do for and are to him

fun is the best way to describe haechan - everything about him is fun and there's never a dull moment with him, which is both nice and a bit exhausting... but he's a human vitamin and just being around him recharges you your own personal human jukebox... and dance machine? honestly you tell him to rest up whenever you're together but haechan can't help but dance and sing to whatever he's had on repeat lately and sometimes you have to be like "hey it's time to rest" "but i -" "h e y i t ' s t i m e t o r e s t" complains and then tells you to reprimand mark to rest too if he has to and you stare at mark and mark stares back and tries to run away but you and haechan are already chasing him around the hallways of the building shouting about the three of you going to get bubble tea and asking mark to treat you two "didn't you watch it's dangerous beyond the blankets!" "yeah but don't you know how important bubble tea is!!!!" despite the front he puts on, is actually very shy about skinship - holding hands makes his fingers curl and honestly it's pretty cute because he's bold about everything but skinship jeno always shouts at haechan to hold your hand haechan's like "HOW ABOUT I HOLD YOURS" and jeno is like "okay come here" and haechan is like "i'm kidding go away" and jaemin runs over and is shouting about how much he loves haechan and it's a lot and it's overwhelming but their dynamic makes you laugh and honestly those moments, when you laugh and all your worries wash away - those are haechan's little ways of saying "i love you" and jisung's like "gross get over yourselves" but honestly all of dream is really happy about you and haechan and they immediately integrated you into their dynamic - plus you keep haechan out of trouble mark gets teary when he meets you and is like "oh my god my little brother is growing up" haechan: oldie mark: that's it rainy days mean blanket forts and reading really bad ghost stories from the internet with a flashlight - honestly probably the nct lightstick - as a fake bonfire and nothing about it is scary and sometimes on rainy days the other dream members will join you and jaemin and jeno will compete over who can tell the scariest story as jisung just swings by to eat all the jellies and be entertained there are quiet moments, too, though, like when you're baking cookies and haechan sits at the counter singing along to a playlist of ballad songs the two of your put together and you just listen without saying anything; or when haechan is away on schedule and you two facetime, you working on whatever assignments you have and haechan telling you in a soft voice about his day and all the new things he did or learned haechan is energy, bright and fun and never boring, but also with quiet, muted moments interspersed - but all moments with haechan are meaningful and memorable no matter what
